[Q] CM10 for the Nexus 7? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this something that may happen quickly for the N7 as it is stock android, or will the devs need to spend a fair amount of effort prepping it for the N7?

I could see this happening soon the cm team is already working on cm10.... With the Dev support this tab is going to get its going to be crazyy

Yeah man - they have a bunch of screen shots on their G+ feed right now. Tablet and phone UI.

CM10 should already compile for the N7 as because it is a Nexus device the vendor (the files used to configure the build) are released in AOSP. See https://android.googlesource.com/device/asus/grouper

I thought that may be the case, but that level of detail is not in my wheelhouse, so thanks for the info!
I wonder how long it will take an enterprising dev to start the "***OFFICIAL*** CM10 For the Nexus 7" thread in the dev forum

I have no doubt I could compile CM10 as it is for the Nexus 7, I don't see any point yet though, there are next to no changes.

Ahh... cool. I have not even messed around with cm9 yet because a full version of it is not supported for my device. I was a big fan of CM7.2 when I was running the RC though.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question - it's cool when the devs help folks like me out with the easy questions

Cyanogen 10 NIGHTLIES should begin soon.
As far as a release candidate or final, there is absolutely no way to tell but i can pretty much guarantee you looking from CM7 and CM9 that your looking at at least 2-3 months.
ICS was released last November and CM9 has not even hit release candidate yet.

CM9 has hit RC1 . Apparently, it's going to take less time to get things rolling from ICS -> JB as there aren't that many BIG platform changes unlike GB -> ICS.

Looking forward to CM10 or AOKP!

This is what I'm waiting in for. Does anyone know if someone has committed to being the Cm dev for the n7? And if so, I who is it?

A lot of the work of being a 'dev' for a certain device isn't really needed with a Nexus device since Google provides most of the bits that make it difficult to make a custom ROM without.
Also, quite a few devs were at IO and received a free Nexus 7, so I really don't think we're going to be short of devs wanting to get CM working on the device!

yes, but my question is if anyone has stepped up yet. Is there a device maintainer? I'm actually pretty surprised that there isn't a cm10 build floating around for this yet....

Well, it sure looks like someone has stepped up to the plate. I wonder what the next steps are?

So funny story. Right after I got done adding some files to support CM10. I took my Nexus 7 over to my nephews birthday party. I set it down for a second on a table. My sisters dog than ran into it and the N7 took a fall to the patio.
What only looked like a small crack on the screen and the display works fine. The trouble came when I tried to unlock my tablet. The touchscreen no longer works.
So my plee to anyone out there. I am looking for a new N7. I would buy it from Google but they are 3-4 weeks out on shipping the next round. If anyone bought two, or knows of any other stores that may have one in stock let me know. I don't want to be out of the game that long!

That sucks

That does suck.
That's nemith and he maintained the Nook Color for awhile. Still works with our current maintainer fattire, and those guys are the best.
For real, for real.
I would love to see either of those gentlemen be active in this forum. I still spend more time on the Nook forum than here, and I haven't even turned that device on since the Nexus 7 arrived.
Which makes me feel totally guilty. Something is very wrong with me.

DINC & ICS

Am I the only one who creams his pants at the thought of the DINC getting an Ice Cream Sandwich port at some point?
HOLY CANNOLI.
I'm sure people will try, how well it will work is another thing.
Yep not holding my breath on the inc getting port of ics. Unless it is going to come out on a current phone then a port may be possible. But I would think the hardware acceleration will not work for a while as it will likely not have drivers for our old incs.....
While it would be great, I don't know if I need it. Out of curiosity, what do you see as the draw to ICS?
Why would you not want the latest android version?
Could you really just sit around, running Gingerbread, knowing full well that ICS is out there and you aren't running it?
That's a sad, sad thought amigo.
I'm too much of a geek to be cool with running anything but the latest android version..

It'd be about time that verizon got a nexus
exciting news that ice cream is coming up and hopefully for our phones too, will be watching here
No matter how much I love my AMOLED DInc, I'd rather have a brand new phone running ICS than trying to shoehorn it onto my "old" phone. I'm thinking ICS will be meant for phones with more power and RAM than the DInc has. So, I'd rather have a new more capable phone running the latest version of Android than cutting out features and decreasing performance to run on an old phone.
I was originally thinking I'd spring for a Bionic as soon as it was released and then use my upgrade later if I didn't like the phone. But hearing rumors about what's just over the horizon has me wanting to simply wait until January when I'm due for a subsidized upgrade. I sure hope the Nexus Prime is available on Verizon... if not, looks like I just might end up with an HTC Vigor.
So if I flash ICS, can I still root it with Unrevoked?
I had to do it, reading the Desire forums of people flashing 2.3 from HTC development site, and asking, sorry *****ing, that now they can't root... I had to say it.
I'm sure we can run it well, it's coming to the nexus s, which has a weaker CPU than the dinc.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
If someone gets ahold of the code, you can believe that someone else will make it work. It will probably only be ASOP but who cares, it will still be ICS.

Onskreen from Cornerstone is open to all.

Runs fairly well in my opinion.
Sent from my Droid Incredible 2
Tried installing on it my UK WiFi Xoom, but it didn't really work.
First I tried to connect to WiFi - it saved my WiFi network, but wouldn't connect to it. After a reboot it connected.
Second when attempting to log into my Google account I tapped in the email field but the keyboard would not appear. I had to hit the back button for the keyboard to appear.
Third it kept saying that I had input a wrong password even though I'm sure it was the correct password, so a no-go getting Gapps to work.
Based on the hassle with these seemingly three simple things (have flashed several roms and never experienced this) I hardly doubt that this rom will be a favourite of mine anytime soon...
can anyone video-review it?
is it just the same as their ICS SDK vid?
This whole thing seems like a security no-no.
(I don't install any rom that's not completely open source and from an established and trustworthy team.)
Also, while this is a neat idea, ultimately it's a framework mod and unless it goes into AOSP, which I can't see happening, it looks destined to the gee whiz niche.
So I only just found out about onskreen a few hours ago...

Sorry to hear it's been pulled but it's understandable...I had some stability issues. But it will be a great addition to EOS ICS Rom once it's been worked over.
That's one of the reasons why these nightlies are so exciting--you never know what fun surprises are in store!
Thanks a million, guys.
How much tweaking can be done to this? I mean since its open source then we could tweak it as much as we want, no?

[idle conversation] no more leaks so far...

Is anyone else becoming increasingly concerned there hasn't been many leaks?
By now I would have expected quite a few more leaks, but there hasn't even been a whisper of another one...
not at all, i would rather stick to a stable GB rom than use the buggy ics leaks
people seem to think ics is magically gonna transform the device...
ICS certainly transforms the device. Going back to Gingerbread from ICS makes you realize how inadequate the former is for such a wonderful device. ICS is silky smooth while Gingerbread feels like watching stop-motion photography. Livewings did such a good job ironing out some of the kinks in the ICS leak that it has become my everyday rom. You couldn't pay me to go back to Gingerbread.
+1 on this.
If you try a ICS build in your Note, and if you can flashe it without getting FC´s and some other errors, you never want to came back to GB again, because the speed and usability is just in another level.
I don't know why there is only one leaked ICS rom for the Note.
It's very strange when we see the SII with many leaked ICS roms and other devices too, but not the Note.
Is the ICS Rom for the Note the biggest secret Rom from Samsung?
The awesome thing is that all leaks are running at 1.2GHz CPU speed and the real one will use 1.4, so it will be even faster!

Personally I've found the relative regularity of frequency of Leaks to indicate solid Dev work..
I feel that the fact that we've had one buggy release, a blown out release date and now "promised' extras make me think that they're not getting much Dev done.
Its common practice to promise more when you've missed your promised release date, in an attempt to "curry favour" with the disaffected customers.

[Q] Most complete CM7 based ROM?

Sorry for not spending a huge amount of time researching this, guys. It's not for me.
I'm a flash-a-holic and my friend has your phone model and needs a new ROM installed on it. So I get one shot at this. I won't be "supporting" her phone and flashing nightlies all the time.
CyanogenMOD's site says that CM7 is officially supported, so that's what I'm considering flashing for her. It looks like there are a few threads based on it and many of the dev's have since discontinued support.
Can you guys point me to the most complete/stable CM7 based ROM out there?
I don't want CM9 or CM10 based ROM's because based on what research I have done, those still have some important things broken. Like camcorder or Netflix or 4g, etc.
This needs to be a "Flash once and be done with it" type of deal.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not after the "most popular" or "coolest" ROM. Because I know all ROM's are a WIP and Dev's improve on things daily. I just want the CM7 build that has the least amount of items broken.

Reloaded. Its super smooth. If you only have one shot and wont be supporting, I'd recommend reading into cod tweaks. The updated settings should be linked somewhere in the thread.
And also go to advanced setting/display and make sure screen on/off is checked. Without it, you may have issue waking phone from time to time.
That's about the only "issue" I've ran into on reloaded. Fix that and its smooth sailing out of the box.
If she wants the ics look at all, download Holo launcher (free). Paired with the built in ics cm7 theme it'll look strikingly close.
Good luck

First of all questions go in the q&a (that's question and answer) section. That's usually where you put questions that you want answers to
Second you should search around and notice that any thread asking which rom is best gets shut down asap as its all opinion and you should figure out on your own and make your own opinion.

We need Cyanogenmod or Devs to make a unofficial port

Honor 7 is a very good phone never been so surprised over a phone in this price range has so good quality and functionality have to add it has the best fingerprint sensor out there and looks great. Enough about that.
Huawei have released the kernel that stopped devs to start developing not so long ago. So there is nothing in the way anymore. Or is it anything more?
Was looking around and came over someone who was willing to pay for a dev to do this Job for him on Guru.com hes Guru Username is CU T and from Malaysia he got ok rep on the site. He offered $3500for the job.
Here is hes listing on Guru.com

Only one that had a offer. I do not know how much time this takes but would it take a year and $24000 to make a unofficial port to Honor 7?
Get involved everyone and post on cyanogenmod official forum link is provided at the end and ask for a Unofficial port! HONOR 7 is better than so many smartphones on the marked they have supported.
[Request] Cyanogenmod For Huawei Honor 7
Will also add they seems to have stopped supporting newer Huawei they have official CM for Huawei Ascend Mate 2.
LOOK! Forum have a section for Huawei. (Made my dog pee inside he was so excited)
 hilarious
off you go then...
"i demand you make something just because i want you to! never mind it's gonna be a real ball-ache, and there will be about 50 total downloads, and you'll have to spend months bug-fixing and doing updates, and listening to people moan that it doesn't have this or that, who cares it's not a snapdragon, or qualcomm chipset, i want code written for that running on my Kirin, and you probably don't even own the handset, but do it for me!"
sarcasm is hard to get across in text... but i tried..

good luck :silly:
Agreed sminki.
I certainly don't 'need' anything. I have a great phone and am grateful for the updates and tweaks we already have. The two other phone in our household have CM and I much prefer my H7.
i was a bit harsh, and in a bad mood, so to put my point a little more diplomatic...
to get CM (or any other) on here will require someone with dev abilities and the handset, because it cannot simply be "ported" over, there is no base to work from as such, it has to be built for the handset. someone with the handset and drive to get it done will, not because people want it, or because of a thanks button.
shouting "i want" in a forum, be it here or CM isn't going to suddenly make a capable person do it. paying someone will only end in disaster, they're not doing it for the 'right' reason, and even if they cook up something and not just "take off with the cash" - long term will offer no support
just to make myself even more unpopular, i prefer OMNI anyway
why this?
CM is aosp rom as other nothing special same things for the last 10 year only news is CAF version.
PA stop developer and same AOKP and all aosp rom are similar
EMUI is a new way have a good battery saver and lot of feature that we missing with aosp.
if want modding the only best devices are Nexus easy step for root/recovery all team support device and all source are available on Google site.
Obviously my thoughts
I've started playing with CyanogenMod on my Honor 7 (because I made the fatal mistake of buying it instead of something with actual devs working on it), however it's very early on - all I have is working ADB access and a lot of things to learn. Don't get your hopes up too quickly, Mali drivers are apparently painful to get right.
