Xoom no backlight?!?! - Xoom General

Hi all out there,
My xoom has no backlight? in some angle I'm able to see what's on my home screen, but it's all dark, totally unable to work around...
Someone know something about that? You guys around here are my only help. I have no warranty, cause I bought it from US and I'm i Europe....
Greets,
Philip

Interesting, this person here have the same issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767082
Hmm I still don't think it's a software sided issue but a hardware issue. You could open your XOOM and if there is anything wrong with the connectors, but you will properly have to replace the whole LCD screen. I had a few LCD TV fail on me before and it's generally the back-light that goes first, so it's not that surprising. Hmm another problem is I looked on ebay over here and a new LCD screen or touch digitizer actually costs more than what it's worth.

[Q] Broken screen.. what to do?

Hi all,
this morning I left my tablet at home and when I come back found it with broken glass (I think tmy little brother dropped it, but he doesn't confess)..
Sometimes touch works, more often not.
However.. What can I do? I read that some lcd are not glued properly, and it could be my case, because on the left it's a bit lifted on the center.
In your experience, is there hope that it can be repaired for free?
And if not, where can I find replacement (I only found this: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Google-Nexus-7-LCD-and-Digitizer-Assembly-p-22606.html , but it isn't available)?
Thank you!
sooooo sad! :/

At this moment you have Two Options..
1. Sell it on Ebay for Parts you probably get about 50 to 100 at most.
2. Pack it up and store it away in a closet and forget about it. Until the Screens are being sold as parts.
the reason for both options is due to Asus not selling the LCD/Glass at the moment as a Part.
they are still manufacturing the Nexus 7 and soon will be making the Nexus 7 with 3g capability.
so there biggest priority at the moment is to keep making them.
you can send it in for repair with Asus but it will cost you about $160.00 just to get it repaired.
not to mention how much it going to cost you to ship it to them.
is the device frame cracked or damaged broken is the back scuffed or cracked .. Does it look like its been dropped. IS THE Crack on the left side. CAN You post pictures. Answer the above and give some pics and more info..
i know you do not really know for sure .one more question was it moved can you tell for sure rather someone was using it or not ?
If you really feel it cracked laying where you left it . Without anyone touching it . CALL GOOGLE PLAY.. But please do not be dishonest . There is a issue with the screen lift cracking and becoming unresponsive . as well as backlight flashing issues..
Looking forword to seeing pics and more info

[Q] Screen flicker - suspected hardware problem

Greetings,
I tried to search for this problem on this forum but I couldn't find anything specific to this device.
The tablet works fine in all aspects, except the screen flickers when the aluminum back is stressed, i.e. when its being held. The tablet screen will flicker in brightness as the back is pressed.
Usually the most reliable way to reproduce the problem is to flex the tablet, as if you were trying to split a piece of plastic into two by gradually flexing it until it breaks.
Therefore, I have concluded it is a hardware problem, but I don't know exactly what.
I apologize if I'm difficult to understand, and if you need any clarification, let me know.
Thank you everyone for your time.

Hey Kevin,
Yeah, seems like a hardware issue. But I advise not to "flex" the back too much
Probably could be 2 things.
1. Loose connector for the digitizer
2. Bad digitizer
3. Something grounding out against the case.
So my guess would be to spit the case apart. You can find videos on Google Search showing the procedure at You Tube. Then a good inspection of components, paying attention to connectors and the boards (for cracking).
I saw the other day that there are plenty of parts available for the 500, like digitizers, display glass and several other items. Check E-bay.

Thanks for your advice Moscow Desire. I've taken the back off before but noticed nothing unusual. Should I just take every component that can be separated out and inspect it? Sounds like a recipe for disaster for an inexperienced person like me.

Hi Moscow Desire,
I have taken my tablet apart with the instruction from the videos but I didn't see anything that is loosen so far. Do you think I will need to unscrew everything until I take out the screen to know what's wrong? My screen keeps flickering with white lines at the edge of the screen and it's really annoying. :crying:
Thanks!

[Q] touch issues

I have a NST with glowlight and i have touch issues quite often... when using the keyboard when i touch backspace it touches "h".. when i touch space .. it touches b ... does anyone have these screen issues? it's like phantom touches.. i takes me 5mins to type something
This is a known issue. I just received mine in the mail and it had issues. I found you can clean it and it may help. But for me, since it is brand new, I just had them ship out a new one. If you are not under warranty, I actually just did a factory restore and it stemmed to have helped a bit.

Nook touch screens use infra-red sensors/emitters located around the edges of the screen. If the transparent plastic sandwiched between the screen and the bezel gets dusty, it can cause problems.

so it's not really a hardware fault but it's because of dirt?? any cover case that can protect against such scenarios? how do i clean it?
I think there are two scenarios (perhaps more). Faulty hardware in which the infra red sensors do not function correctly or dirt/ dust impeding their ability to function. One always hopes for the latter.
The reset I did only helped for about an hour.
First try to clean it.
Since you got it off eBay, start by contacting the seller. Ask the person if it is still under warranty.
Then, contact 1800thebook to get a replacement. If it is not under warranty, I am not sure what your options are. EBay and electronics is always a gamble. Sorry.

ok thx,... i have tried cleaning it up but it helps for a few seconds but then it gets freaky at times.. it's a pain to type! do you guys ever take notes with it??? it's impossible...
i don't think it's a hardware issue since the first 2 weeks it works with no problems... i was keeping it in the box while not in use... since i started not keeping it in its box.. i am getting these touch issues... so seems related to dust...
will i need to send back my nook to get a replacement... sounds pretty annoying to do so.. shipping is damn expensive
sidenote: looking at the edge of the nook, i see shiny particles... is this normal or is this dust?
i can't even type my wifi password anymore... every button i touch also "ghost" touch the corresponding middle button.. e.g. when i press d, i get dg ... how do i clean that damn thing? where do i need to clean exactly?? i am cleaning the edge.. does not seem to work.. sometimes it seems ok, then 2 secs later it gets messed up again
Cleaning the screen is a different reason to normal screens. Normally you just want the greasy finger prints off etc. However thats for a resistive or capacitve based touchscreen. NST/NSTG touchscreen works on an infrared array running along the edges ABOVE the screen rather than a stuck on touchscreen so as not to affect the contrast in sunlight.
This means a piece of particulate matter on the screen will affect the touch sensor.
If its confused sometimes it won't work at all! The worst environment to ever take your NST is to a sandy beach, really don't do it.
Personally I use a air duster (compressed air can) to get those pesky bits out of the edges.
When not using NST keep face down to keep out bits of crap or keep in a case..

[Q] Can you identify this LCD issue?

I replaced the LCD screen in my Nexus 7 today, and the attached photo is the result. I have read around a little bit, but cannot determine if I received a bad LCD screen, or if perhaps I damaged the ribbon cable. I have replaced LCD's in several devices, but this is the first time anything's gone wrong. Is there any way to tell what happened?
PS - I realize there was a previous thread about something quite similar to this, but I did not feel it really addressed the possibility that the screen is bad... I had re-seated the ribbon just to be sure it was on right, so I am fairly certain there is a bad part. I just don't want to go ordering more parts before the problem is properly diagnosed.
Thanks everyone!

[Q] Blueish pixels when i touch the screen

Hello, thanks for reading, i bought a refurbished D800 and when i touch the screen i get like some blueish pixels, if i softly touch it no weird stuff appears on the screen. Is it the digitalizer or the LCD panel? does anybody know?, the pictures are attached. Thanks for reading!
Edit: exact same thing happening to this guy (check the video), even tho mine is much more subtle on the spots: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/screen-weird-spots-problem-t2907316
My brother had the exact same problem with his D802 and in his case it was the battery which was getting bigger and bitter since it was defect. After replacing the battery, the problem was gone.
Since you bought a refubished phone, I think it could also be a wrong digitizer or LCD which got assemled.

Now that you say about the battery getting bigger and bigger, i noticed that the glass isnt where it should be, its pushed up, if i leave the screen on in complete darkness i can see the backlight filtering trough the cellphone's borders. Im gonna take it to a local shop to see whats wrong with it. Thanks for replying!!
