S2 + GNote + GAce Size Difference + another Cracked/Shattered S2 AMOLED+Gorilla Glass - Galaxy S II General

First image was taken the day i upgraded to the Galaxy Note with the S2 (now handed down to one of my younger twins brothers who is getting a Galaxy S3 tomorrow (Lucky B*****D) from Left to Right - Galaxy Note N7000 Ceramic White (Currently my phone) - Galaxy S2 i9100 Ceramic White (Eldest Brothers) - Galaxy Ace S5830 Ceramic White (My Girlfriends)
Now the 2nd image as you can see you may have seen this image elsewhere alone side another shot of a different angle its just my old account i couldnt access anymore on XDA. i slipped fell on my arse and the preassure between the battery and Gorilla Glass Screen shattered the AMOLED between, £30 to repair thou not bad! now this image was taken with the S2 in the next photo
3rd image was Done Freshly yesterday in the dark my Eldest Brother walked into a lampost, knocked out of his hand, bounced off the kirb and he stood on it! and now he is borrowing my old S2 (which i have plans to swap for a Lumia 900 :3)... kind of gutting to see 2 of the best Android Smartphones go down in one family!
i know this bit should be in the Note section but its regarding the S2 as well, many people ask me if my Galaxy Note is too big, it isn't! in fact its just the perfect size! my S2 seems really small when i hold it. weird thing is, now i have the Galaxy Note.. i want to go bigger like the Asus Transformer Prime! Software doesn't seem much different between both S2 and GNote (GAce is there for showing how small it is next to a GNote) Android ICS has just compensated due to its larger screen e.g 6 options on the notification bar, quick easy access to setting and the Premium Suite, honestly Premium Suite does get boring after a while!.. now back to the S2... price actually isn't much to repair the AMOLED itself, i assume they replaced the Gorilla Glass and Bezel around it! so I'm thinking they will do the same to my brother White S2 at the same price, for other people who have damaged their S2 in the same way we have, take it to the Store and get it off to repair ASAP, last thing you want to do is have a broken £300 phone sitting around collecting dust.. get it fixed! find a replacement or cheap £10 phone, Tesco's and Argos do such things! (not sure for the Americans but I'm sure you know where to get cheap phones from) but DO NOT wonder and say to yourself ''oh do i have the money for it?'' YES YOU DO! get it done, don't waste time!
i might nick my brothers S3 and upload a few pictures and do a picture Comparison Between the S2, GNote and S3 as they all have the amazing 8MP Camera.. I wonder if there will be a difference between them!
as for now! i have to go through the worry of hoping my eldest brother Isn't going to smash up my S2!

Galaxy Vs. OLD Phone

Interested to know peoples impression of the galaxy note based on what they have had in the past...or upgraded from. I'm currently awaiting my GN to arrive and I'm giving my SGS II up for it so I'm hoping its a worthy trade up.
I love the SGS II design and feel. I upgraded from the SGS 1 and was the best thing I've done.
if u love big screen or bigger than s2 then u gonna love the note but if u think s2 is big enough then stick with s2. i come from 3.5" screen. now never look back smaller size than the note. i used old one a bit today and felt like a toy.
Anyone changing from an iPhone 4 and how they compare the screen clarity/pixel density of the Note to the retina display of the iPhone?
I've got a 3.5" galaxy ace. I got a chance to try out the note, and I'm absolutely in love with it. The tiny screen is a pain to use right now, can't wait to get my note.

Anyone in Jacksonville Fl with a Note?

Hi guys, I am itching to buy a note even though I am with Sprint and would nver switch to ATT. I keep convincng myself to wait but, just not sure this kind of screen realestate will surface in a phone again. I have read just about every forum and review in the past several weeks- at least twice...lol.... The only thing that is holding me up is warranty concerns and the pen tile screen. I have been bothered by every pentile screen I have seen and can clearly see pixels when others claims that you would never see them with normal use or that they don't not exist. I would love to see one in person to aid my buying decision. I am not at all concerned about the size, only the screen as I tend to watch movies, read ebooks, and surf the web more than anything? Please let me know, thanks.

Like you I use mines for the same thing books, netflix and wed.
I look passed the pixels thing and just took the plunge and bought the Note
been happy and no complaints.
I see people talking about volume issues, screen issues, screen lock issues the only issue I had was the size. it's too small for my liking and that's cause Im coming from the Tad 7'' used as cell phone for 1 year.
like Nike just do it. lol

Not in Jax, but in Everett, WA with my Note. Had it for about two Weeks, and I love this dang thing. Lol. The display and snapiness of the processor sold me. This is my very first Android device, and I have to say that I am very happy with it. I highly recommend this phone. Once you get this screen you'll never back to anything smaller.

Im in Tallahassee Florida with my 24hr old galaxy note. I guess im no expert at screens but this screen is beautiful. Ive had the Tmobile Vibrant and recently just sold my release day international sgs2. The screen is not as bright as my sgs2 but its still top notch. Its crystal clear. You will NOT regret your decision.
Yesturday at work, I watch all my coworkers jaws drop at this device. Most have Moto Razr, iphone4s, streak, incredible s2, and some other new android devices.
Seems like samsung devices are subject to witch hunts, if you look hard enough your bound to find something. I can say with certainty, that I will not have another device until Galaxy Note 2 is out. Mind you Ive had every highend device thats been released in the last 2 years.

I truly don't understand the fuss over the iphone screen. I was without a phone for a couple of hours yesterday and used my coworkers iphone. I had to zoom in on every page unlike my sgs2, infuse and now note. If you were watching me using the phone, you would have thought I was blind trying to navigate ebay, xda, fedex, usps and a few other sites.
Not going to go into long detail but all in all I liked the tmo vibrants screen better than the iphones. Sgs2 and note in my opionion blows other devices out of the water.
Im no sales man or speaker for samsung, but I couldnt imagine using anything other then amoled displays. I went a total 4 weeks without my sgs2, and in between I had a atrix and htc inspire. They both were sold the moment I found a buyer.

Thanks for the feedback. Thats exactly my point. I hated the vibrant's screen because the text looks like Lego blocks. I have a Sprint GS2 and the resolution just isn't good? enough as the text could look jagged and blurry sometimes. I would match prefer the sharp and solid - e ink type of resolution/text on say an IPhone 4 rather than the sometimes oversatuarated color on the Samsungs. That's why I ask about the IPhone 4 screen, not so much for color or contrast but for the sharpness of text sine I read alot; trust me I would never buy an IPhone with a baby screen size from three years ago. The HTC Rezound is the only screen I have seen thus far that can match an Iphone 4 in this regard but that screen size at 4.3 has now become too small for my taste...lol...

Some people (usually iPhone users) claim that the Note is humongous and far too big to carry around and yet they never say the same about the iPad (double standards). The same people claim the the primary function is a phone, but for most people the primary function is Web Browsing. Sooner or later, iPhone users are going to get fed-up Web Browsing on such a small screen. So Apple will need to follow everyone else and increase the screen size or lose customers.

I don't think they will not by much anyway, they went on so much about the retina display when it came out, they will always have to deliver on it now. Which means increasing resolution, memory and processor all at the same time, and either increasing the price or taking less profit. We know how much apple love there profit margin so doubt they will want to cut that, and would the consumer pay even more for the new iphone?
So true, Galaxy S2 used to look so big to me, now it looks to the GNote like the Iphone looks to the S2.
Seriously, whenever anybody pulls out an Iphone at work now i just point and laugh... "how quaint!" i say.... as you can imagine it never goes down well
You just get used to the size of the thing and I can't imagine going back to anything as piddily as an iphone
We share the same sentiment.
I too cannot go back to a smaller screen device.
Prior to this I had an iPhone 4 but before that I had an HTC desire.
But transitioning from the Desire to the iphone4 was relatively easy due to the difference only being 0.5 .
But from the Note's 5.3 to even a 4.5 will be difficult.
Me too. Could never go back to 4.3 inch
Just think about the 3.5 inches of the iPhone screen...
Hey, it's technically possible to make a 1920x1200 3.5" screen. But you need a f*cking MICROSCOPE to read a web page there.

Lol I pity the iphone fanboys. Allegiance to a company that doesn't give them any freedom of choice. Galaxy Note is the best toy I've ever owned. I rarely touch my laptop or desktop unless I have to.
You know what's something I always thought would be amazing? What is Samsung has a secret weapon already in deployment (as far as screen technology goes)? What if that secret weapon is SAMOLED+?
Think about it... Regular SAMOLED (and HD SAMOLED in the GNexus and Note) uses PenTile, which has 8 sub-pixels per pixel (4 green, and 2 each blue and red)... However, SAMOLED+ is true RGB, and actually uses 12 sub-pixels per pixel. So on SAMOLED+, that's 4 red, 4 green, and 4 blue for each single pixel. Let that sink in for a moment... Most ordinary RGB displays only have 3 sub-pixels per pixel. 1 each of red, green, and blue...
Can you guess where I'm going with this yet?
Essentially, Samsung already has better-than-retina AMOLED displays already out in the wild, if they were to use 3 sub-pixels instead of 12. So, what if it's only a matter of releasing a firmware update to such equipped devices, so that they effectively quadruple their screen resolutions by addressing 3 sub-pixels per pixel instead of 12?
Wouldn't that be awesome? I could just see it now:
Apple announces their iPad3, and how it has quadruple the resolution of the outgoing generation. The Apple crowd goes "Woo, yay..." while everyone else goes "Damn... I wish my screen were that nice..."
Then Samsung comes out "Hey guys! You know how awesome your SAMOLED+ displays are? You want higher resolution? Well, guess what, you've already got it! Here's an update for ya! *boom!!* Quadruple your old resolution!! You're welcome! "
Apple: "WTF!? Seriously? Foiled again!! Damn you Samsuuuuuuuung!!!!"
can't look back
Went from iPhone 3G to Dell Streak 5", waiting on the arrival of the Note... couldn't go back to a smaller phone. Didn't know what I was gonna do when Dell announced they weren't gonna update the Streak 5, so you can imagine how happy I was with the announcement of the Note... FINALLY a phone that will actually be supported by it's company!!!! No more DJ Steve dependence (He was a God send don't get me wrong), just finally not having to keep updating to fix bugs in someones independent OS launches.
The same in here. I bought HTC desire, it was my first 3,7" and it was like ooooh, thos is big, this is not like my old G1! Then, SGS2 come out and i bought it and it was like oooooh, this is much bigger, was hoping i will have no problems with the size because of my small hands. I got use to it. Everytime i buy a new phone, my friends are laughting on me, that i have that big bricks. And then, i bought Note. Soooo huge. After 2 weeks a get used to it. My friends stoped laughting on me after i made home cinema in club from my Note
1 weeks ago i held sgs2 in my hands... ou sh*t, it is tooo small
Cant go back to smaller phone.
1 year ago my son brought home the Samsung 4" Focus (windows phone) and I couldn't believe how sharp the Super-Amoled and 4" screen was compared to my iPhone 4. So I made the leap and soon got the 4'5" Samsung Infuse...extremely nice (except the GPS sucks) and it got me used to carrying around a much larger phone.
Now I'm all set for the Note in 2 weeks. I can't wait to see peoples reactions.
And I agree those 3.5" screens look like toys and should be handed down to <5 year olds.
Just got my Note about an hour ago and Im already in love! ... It makes my Infuse (which is already a big phone) look small

Congrats, I just got one as well yesterday. Really blown away with the screen real estate.
oh don't get me started, i can't even look at my iPhone 4 anymore!
I came from the Xperia Arc. That screen was (is - my son has it now and loves it) very nice, and the envy of smaller phone owners. The trouble for me was the complete lack of internal storage.
Now it seems so very small!
That's exactly what I said when I bought the Gnex... When I play with my iPhone 4s I can clearly see how the screen is sooo tiny... Can't believe I've stick with such a small screen for so long. Can't wait to get my hand on the note when it comes out next week in Canada!

Here's my story:
Started with the OG Droid - 3.7", cool!! So much bigger than my BB Curve that I had been using.
Then swapped it for a Nexus 1 a couple of months later, partly cos it was slightly wider (in portrait mode) though still 3.7", which made a big difference to me - cooler still!!
Then got the G-Nexus on day 1 - 4.65" - woohooo!!!!! Absolutely loving it!!
By then, I figured that if I could have 5.3", then why not, so I swapped it for the Note!!
YEP, CAN NEVER GO BACK!! Held the Nexus 1 again the other day - like others said, how on earth did I use to live with that mini screen?!?!
I'm tempted to say that this is the biggest I can go, but how many times have I already said that???!

Nexus7 feels like a cheap tablet vs GTab 7.7

Got my 32G+HPSA Nexus7 yesterday and boy was I disappointed: it feels
like a cheap piece of plastic compared to my Galaxy Tab 7.7.
Problems:
- thicker than my 1-year old gtab 7.7
- huge bezel, small screen: lots of wasted real-estate, an 8" screen
could easily have been fitted in that case
- no forward-facing camera
- no phone function (I knew that, but still, how much would it cost to
add it, and really convenient when travelling to put a 'local' SIM)
- bad screen, washed out colors, nowhere near the crispness and quality
of a Gtab 7.7
I will keep it though for my kids, but it's a let down.
What is the successor the the Galaxy Tab 7.7?

i agree with you, the only thing is really cool in the N7 is the smoothness of the JB.
nothing else.
once we got out JB, N7 doesn't stand out in front of G7.7 in anything.
Well, the price says a lot about it. Super AMOLED Plus is quite expensive to produce. It is the perfect AmoLED, even better than the Note 2's semi-pentile AmoLED screen without the Plus. =)
About the phone function, you can download Apps to enable it, just like you can download camera apps to shoot pictures using the front facing cam of the Nexus 7.

So what you're saying is that I should look for a "Super AMOLED Plus"
screen in my next tablet to get a similar quality as the Gtab7.7 ?

Hi Guys,
I'm currently eagerly awaiting delivery of an almost new GTab 7.7 to replace my Gtab 8.9... hope it lives up to the hype!
I heard that Samsung are going to bring out a Galaxy Note 7.7.... a natural successor i guess. Though I'm sure for my purposes the Chip, screen and form of the original 7.7 will be more than enough for the next year or two
Wow!You posted the same thing in the nexus 7 section.Tell me more about how much better the GTab is. -.-

What phone did you have before?

One question I've got for you S8+ owners, what phone did you guys switch from and a brief explanation as to why?
I switched from an S7 edge, because I've been a Samsung fanboy since the GS2 and I've owned every single Samsung flagship since that time, so I didn't want to end the streak. I also picked one up because the midnight black one is probably the best looking phone I've ever seen and because the phone is still rare where I live, it 'stands' out a lot.
I came from a Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ 64 GB model. It is still a great phone today and it's also fast and nice. But the things that made me to go for the Galaxy S8+ is.....
1. Bigger screen. 6.2 inch vs 5.7 inch.
2. Better camera in low light environments and in focusing on objects.
3. Better stabilization under video recording. Now you can use both OIS and EIS at the same time on all resolutions. I could only use OIS and EIS at the same time with [email protected] fps on the Galaxy S6 edge+.
4. MicroSD card support. Yes, my Galaxy S6 edge+ was missing that.
5. Better sound quality via the 3.5mm headphone jack. Yes, i do love to listen to musics.
6. Snappier / faster phone in general use.
7. IP68 water and dust resistant.
8. A design that looks futuristic. Yes i kinda needed something that had a new and fresh look.
So there you have my reasons on why i changed from the Galaxy S6 edge+ that i had for one and a half year .
EDIT: I just sold my Galaxy S6 edge+ phone today. Good night sweet prince, you served me well those one and a half year.

Screen marked too easily on the Porsche Design so needed Gorilla Glass 5 which is much more resistant to scratches - I know this as I didn't put a screen protector on the Note 7 and really didn't look after it (knowing it was being returned).
OnePlus3 for me, and quite frankly the S8 makes it feel like a cheap toy

Galaxy S4. Got it when it came out and it was a beast, thanks to XDA and all the wonderful people here it has been going strong since then but it's been showing it's age for the past year or so.
My requirements were simple. Good support from the manufaturer and community (XDA), removeable battery and/or SD card, not an LG, and just something that really stood out over my S4. Was dissapointed with the s6 an no SD card, was tempted for the s7 but timeing never added up then when i had the money and started looking the s8 was around the corner. As soon as i picked up and tried the demo i knew i wanted it.
Few online searches and $1200 later i have a g955F. I love it.
Pixel XL. Gave it to my dad when I got the s8+

Nexus6p and keeping it for a while....
LG V10 since Dec 2015. I had to warranty three of them thanks to the bootloop issues and I'm suppose to be picking up my S8+ from my local store today.
Galaxy Note 7.
I came from the Moto Nexus 6, which I completely loved. The processor is getting a little long in the tooth as is the battery. While I wasn't as harsh on it as the critics were, the camera doesn't hold up in comparison to today's phones. A phone finally came along where I did not have to compromise on screen size (I like the big screens). S8+ is it. While I'm not a fan of Samsung's heavy handed user experience, those things are pretty easily remedied with a new launcher and the removal of some bloat.
Iphone 7plus & mate 9 pro.
Got tired of not being able to customize the iPhone and updates are horrible on the mate 9 pro ( International version)

Note 7. I dropped it and cracked the screen after the S8+ came out. The battery life in the S8+ is awesome!!!! I got say, I don't miss the Note 7 especially with the Note app carrying over to the S8. Thank goodness for the smart switch feature!
I will still buy the Note 8 in the fall.

I had the Note 7 but had to return it, and went back to using my Note 5. I was going to wait for the Note 8 but my Note 5's battery is starting to show it's age and I decided to get the S8 since it feels so good in the hand. Then I decided to try the S8+. Not sure which I like better. The S8 sure does feel nice in the hand, but of course the bigger display on the S8+ is very nice.
I also have a Pixel, which is an OK device. I wanted a Pixel XL but the 128GB were always backordered and by the time I could get one, the S8/S8+ was almost released so I passed and went for the S8.
As for the reasons I picked the Galaxy devices over the Pixels - the display is the main reason for me. The Pixel camera is good but they don't have wireless charging, which I really like, and the bezels on the Pixel are huge.
When the Note 8 and the Pixel XL2 are released, I will decide between those 2 and sell the S8+ in all likelihood. I will probably keep the S8 since it is such a nice size for when I don't want a huge device.

But bascailly own the s7e necause my note edge die. The s7e was cool but miss my pen.
Got the note 7 which was great and had black. (I prefer black phones)
Well after the note 7 crap had to go back to the s7e. Well tmobile stop selling the . So ended up being stuck with a coral blue pinkish s7e
So i was dying for an upgrade in black lol....
But yea overall i upgrade when its worth it and the s8 plug looks great and runs smooth. I miss my irsi scanner
