[NEWS] AOKP Milestone 6 has arrived! + What's the next for AOKP? - Galaxy S II General

Hi XDA Community,
I'd like to share 2 pieces of good news to all of you esp. AOKP fans. :angel:
AOKP Milestone 6 Arriving!
Another great work from the AOKP Team is coming soon!
It will be the final Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM release.
I'm guessing a long list would be generated in the changelog e.g. tons of existing bugs squashed, broken features fixed, etc. *Eagerly waiting for it!* :victory:
Notes:
AOKP Milestone 6 can to be referred to as AOKP Build 41;
Milestones are AOKP's most stable release builds.
AOKP doesn't officially support our SGS2;
However there are many custom ROMs here in XDA (e.g. Resurrection Remix, RootBOX, etc.) that are built from AOKP codes thanks to dedicated developers
AOKP Milestone 6's Changelog
See: [Release] Milestone 6 - Announcements - AOKP
So, what's after AOKP Milestone 6?
The AOKP team will be taking a short break after releasing the Milestone 6;
Until Android releases the code, AOKP will then be devoting their time to develop the new Jelly Bean ROM.
Their new approach for the ROM will be starting things from scratch (instead of merging the codes into ICS).
This will most likely bring about a more stable (less bugged) and fresher JB ROM as well as higher compatibility with the vast targeted devices.
Cheers!

EDIT2: According to Google's technical lead in Android Open Source Project,
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean's Source Code will be released today! Source (10 Jul 2012)
I smell some AOKP's Jelly Bean in due time!

Anyone knows an approximate release date for M6? I ask cause in a couple of weeks I'll go on vacation and I hope I'll update it from B40 to a much more stable, final, ICS version.

That leaks been out for months. The video is new.
two things that make me wonder if this might be faked.. the baseband is the same as android 2.3.6 baseband/radio(see screenshot from my own phone), and the android version says IceCreamSandwich instead of an android buils number. the launcher and the rest of the build.prop can easily be faked.

Version 3.0 was released 22 Jul 2011. Torvalds announced that the big change was, "NOTHING. Absolutely nothing."[70] 30 May 2011 saw Torvalds announce, "...let's make sure we really make the next release not just an all new shiny number, but a good kernel too." After the expected 6-7 week development process, it would be released near the 20th anniversary of Linux.

Lol to your credit it's not actually in any distribution yet that I know of. I don't even know if it's been promoted to suitable yet.
And agree, you can easily change the kernel version when you make the build. Just because it says 3.x doesn't mean much

[Q] CM9

Is there developer thinking about porting CM9 to our device? It would be great if they did.
I know we already have ICS on our little device thanks to dzo, but I was just wondering.
One last thing, is there any chance of our device get a official CM9 ROM?
Thanks in advance for any answers.

hey, cm9 it's just a baby for now. let blefish deal with crucial problems like wifi, ril, camera and some others that eventually come with development progress. Once get stable and functional, blefish can improve what's working, making it better.
Aurora have so much to improve, give Dzo some time. He's dealing with some more important bugs.
But for now, we are all very happy to have you Blefish working on CM9 & 3.0.8 kernel from source. Respect.

The Cyanogenmod team won't start on JB (CM10) until the final release of CM9 is out. That's what i read.
But the changes (code wise) aren't that big between ICS and JB like GB and ICS, so i bet it won't take that long until we see an alpha release of CM10.

Wrong.
I read somewhere (their twitter I think) they will start it right away.
CM10 Nightlies will be arriving soon (probably tonight), but they aren't meant to be safe or official.
All official CM9 devices will be CM10 from the get-go. That will be the official CM10.
They will work on CM9 up until CM9 gets to its first milestone, think of it as rc1, or what comes after beta (gamma?).
From that point on it will be like this:
CM6 = discontinued, unofficially supported
CM7 = officially supported and unofficially supported
CM8 = non-existant
CM9 = discontinued, unofficially supported
CM10+ = officially supported and unofficially supported
I'm more concerned about what they're going to do for CM10
They've discussed merging ParanoidAndroid and AOKP into CM, its likely that they could be introduced once CM10 gets stable, making it into CM10.1
Though it would be an awesome surprise if they manage to do it for CM10 in the first go... I'm having trouble leaving AOKP or PA for CM
Quote from Cyanogenmod on G+
"CM7, 9, and 10 at the same time?
Our goal is to release a stable CM 9.0.0 (and any needed .1’s). After that, we will work on CM7 and CM10 only. As stated above, CM9 devices are highly likely to get CM10, so maintaining a separate class of devices for CM9 only is inefficient. "
OP updated with official word from CyanogemMod.
Actually they do have the bug, but have what triggers it switched off.
Currently all phones have the bug as its a firmware of emmc chip issue. Its prevented triggering, not fixing, firmware issue on emmc chip as how I understand it.

As the OP lays out....this is CM10 compiled from source with additional github commits that may or may not ever be merged into mainline.
If you are new to skanky ROMs....think of these as next week's nightly builds. You get to help troubleshoot features to help make sure that they either work correctly when merged, or even belong to begin with.
When the bleeding edge feels too safe.....it's time to get skanky!

Okay. But still I think the dev's prefer to use CM10 because it doesn't have to updated like every week

Why base all these roms on cm10? Cm10 development stopped on this device, all devs are working on cm10.1.. also it has the exact same bugs, you can't say that cm10 has less bugs..

Because cm10 has less ui glitch. You can see clear different when playing temple run 2. Even the 21/06 build of cm10.1 glitch a lot in temple run 2 but in cm10 there is no glitch.
ScreenShots and Changelog added :good:
:cyclops: Am i on dope or am i really seeing this!!??!!
Sound don't work? Or is it because I installed on xxlqb? I can see that you're using xxlqe for base.
