[Q] Dimensions and weight of Nexus 7 Box - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Someone can tell me what are dimensions and weight of Nexus 7 Box (with Nexus 7 inside)? I need it to calculate shipment cost to my country.

would like to know the exact dimensions and weight of NEXUS 7 box
Hello all,
My friend is shipping nexus 7 from US, to calculate the shipping cost i would like to know the exact dimensions and weight of the box. I will really appreciate if somebody who went for the Google I/O event gives me the dimensions and weight of the box.
Many Thanks!

I also need this information

As far as I've been told, the full retail package (box + N7 + AC adapter + USB cable + manual) weighs less than 1kg / 2.20 pounds.

I'll bring up this thread just for reference. I ordered 4xN7 and according to UPS tracking they sum up to 6.6 LB (that's 1.65 LB per unit).
No information about dimensions so far, will update you once available.

To buy or not to buy? (next to a 4.7" HTC One X) (Europe)

Hello everyone,
in april I've bought the HTC One X, and apart from battery life now and then, I'm pretty satisfied with it. When news about the N7 showed up and read some reviews, I got pretty excited. I've never owned a tablet or a Nexus device, and with the One X only just updated to 4.0.4, I thought it would be nice to also own a Nexus device to sport the latest Android version whenever it comes available. I was also pretty anti-tablet before, but the N7 seems like a good entry in tablet-world. Last few days, news has been popping up the N7 will come around 3rd of September to Western Europe.
I talked with a few people about getting it, and some of them asked "only 7 inch? But you already own a 4,7-inch One X, that's only 2.3 inch bigger". I have to admit I'm not really good at comparing these sizes in my head, so I have no idea how much bigger the screen size will actually look like in comparison with my One X. My gut feeling says "get it as soon as it is out and go play", but I'm a bit afraid that when I pick it up I will be like "only this big?".
I also know there's a Nexus 10 being planned for autumn, but I think it'll be a while longer before it shows up in Europe, so I'll see whenever that one hits the shelves if I'm going to buy it or not.
So basically my question is: won't this purchase be a letdown in terms of screensize? How much is the difference between 7 and 4.7 inch visually?
(another sidenote I recently found out: I purchased the Humble Bundle for Android, and in it are some tablet-only games. In some games, the info says only supported on tablets with a screen size >5", >7" or >8", so some of these can't be played on a N7 unfortunately)
Thanks for your answer in advance!
u want exchange my Motorola defy with your one?
Hey, i also have the HOX and I will recive my N7 next week

About the N10, 7 inch with HD resolution was exactly what made me order the N7. It is so nice to hold, even with one hand and especially for a longer period of time! Hold the Ipad for a loger period and you will not enjoy it.....
and the N7 costs only € 200 ...
You have to be sure what you will use it most for, 10.1 inch is, in my opinion, way to large.
That's why I waitet for a solid cheap 7 inch tablet ==> N7

For me the Nexus 7 is perfect all around. Not to mention I don't kill the battery on my phone using it. Fits in my back pocket too!
Sent from my Nexus 7
I've got a viewsonic g-tablet, a transformer prime, the nexus 7, and an evo LTE.
While I'll still use the prime for real business, with the keyboard dock and all. The Nexus has become my go to for pretty much everything else.
I take it with me pretty much everywhere. The gaming is so much easier, the browsing, while not as good as the 10" is a better experience then the 4.7 of the evo.
The numbers don't seem that far off, but they are indeed very different to use.
I've attached a picture of the bottom left of the screens matched up, not the outer bezels. Which should be pretty much identical to your oneX.
You want one. Do it.. Do it..

who will migrate to 10

Just asking, who will upgrade to nexus 10. I will just because my mom agreed to buy it as my present.
My concern is.
- big resolution, will there be any apps compatibility issue?
- bigger screen. Harder to hold and heavier.
Thought? Who else here will buy nexus 10 or trade their n7 for it?
Will just have both. The N7 is great on the go (won't do without it ) and the N10 will do more couch duty with it's big lovely screen.
I'd consider trading my N7 for one, but I don't think it'll happen. I don't think anyone would pay "much" for a 8GB model. And I don't have the money to just buy a N10 :/
No.

I'm just about to migrate to the nexus 7 32gb soon!
Can't wait already...selling my Asus transformer any day now. I tried a friends nexus 7 at work last week and I was sold.
Love the 7 inch form factor. Just the portability of the device is what got me.
The nexus 10 looks awesome...especially with that display resolution and the cortex a15 dual exynos. However, I think the 7 inch form factor is the one for me for now.

Yes - I plan to do exactly that - provided the build quality is good, and once the teething issues around supply etc are dealt with.
I'm migrating to a 32gb N10.
Thinking about passing down the 7 to another family member and grabbing a 10. I think I will have to wait a while for the pricing to make sense though.
Nexus 7 16 gb ===> 32 = $50
Nexus 10 16 gb ===> 32 = $100
That's the annoying old school Apple pricing there. Annoying, everyone in the world knows that that memory costs $5. Was happy with the new pricing thresholds for the Nexus 7, I assume the 10 will follow suit eventually. Probably when competitors get closer in specs.
Fun to say but the ipad mini format would have been the best of both world.
with 1920*1200 resolution.
I keep my Nexus 7 16gig, i can bring it everywhere !
Im just pissed off at Google for dropping what I paid for a 16GB, to the price of an 8GB weeks after purchasing it.... They said try to claim a price match or something, but I don't know how.
You do realise the Nexus 10 is the lightest and thinnest 10" tablet on the market. It also runs android (obviously ) which works with most screen resolution. I'm sure Google thought it through with 4.2.

Exactly the same feeling, I bought 16GB, would definitely wait for the 32GB + 3G if I knew. I have 10" eeePad Transformer, Nexus 7 is just big enough and much more comfortable to use.
It would be better if they would put this Hi-res displays to notebooks instead of tablets
I'd love to play around with the 10 but with that resolution it's awesome but at the same time I'd want to watch media on it and it's already a pain to have a 7" with a usb stick hanging out, imagine a 10" with a usb stick hanging out.
The 7 has been an awesome road warrior. Works great as a stand along GPS on the road minus the polarized effect but I just use it as a gps in portrait mode.
hmmm..i do have a galaxy 10.1 that needs replacing but I honestly wanted to make my 10" something along the lines of a windows 8 pro tablet/hybrid but damn those things will be double the price of a nexus 10 for the i5 models. =(
I'm tempted by a 10, not to replace my 7 but my iPad 2. Think I can probably sell my iPad for a reasonable amount on eBay.

It is not exactly as you think.. Google is bearing a loss with 16gb version, not making profit. So extra 100 dollars cost is not actually for memory upgrade. Its stepping up from loss to profit.. Same applies for Nexus4 also..
yes that's what come to my mind.
basically my "gadget lover" instinct tell me to get nexus 10. But then i'm in the middle of choosing in-between because I feel that 2 tablet is useless. I try to ask myself "what is your need?" , but I realise that, it's not about need, it's about "lust". Nexus 7 is really awesome for portability, i bring it everywhere but Nexus 10 has 2500x1600 resolution, front speaker, gorilla glass 2, 9000mAH battery, and NEW. And if i do get N10, i rather sell my 16gb N7 for 200$ (comes with screen protector and 2 smart case) so i could buy accessories for N10 or add another 185$ to buy nexus 4.. So now i'm in doubt, if i don't get N10 when it released, i won't be able to get it at all since this is supposed to be my b'day present.
i love my nexus 7 sizes... i think that 10 is too much
already have a 10"..and considering the fact for me a tablet is not a must have..but only a plus to play with,i have no need to upgrade my eeepad transfomer with a nexus 10.i 100% keep my nexus7.when i went to shop for buy the n7,i was tempting to buy a gnote 10.1...but after a bit of thinking,i choose the n7 for the size screen.i rarely go out home with tablets, and if i do,i'll go with the nexus7.if i'd buy nexus10 it would stay always at home.full satisfied with my 7 and 10" tablets

USB out of the nexus 7? I currently have a Acer a500 and thinking about going to nexus 7. Where are you plugging this USB into?
Sent from my A500 using xda app-developers app
USB comes from an OTG cable (microUSB > Full USB). Search Amazon for them.
I'm good with a 7". I had my Asus Transformer 10" and I loved it but it was just a little too big. I wanted to upgrade to a Tegra3 but didn't see it worthwhile just replacing it with another 10" tablet (Asus TF300). I bought my son a used Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" and I LOVED the size. Fortunately I held out and found the N7. It had all the great features (minus HDMI )I wanted but in a 7" form factor. Plus a price point that was great. I sold my Transformer for $225 and picked up a N7.
Most users here HAD a 10" and downsized to a 7" because we preferred the smaller size.

Should I sell my HTC One X and get a Nexus 4?

I'm really torn between keeping my One X and selling it for a Nexus 4. Updates aren't too much of an issue because the One X has CM10 support, so in terms of hardware and design are there any gigantic differences that would warrant the change?
Also, a question for the Nexus 4's screen: It says it's 4,7 inches, does the include the on-screen buttons taking screen real estate or not including them?

When my friend last ran cm 10, he was complaining about sucky battery and touch screen that randomly stops working. Sure and my Galaxy Nexus was getting a little old running Jelly Bean stable since July.

My One X is pretty beat up, so I'm definitely getting the N4 to replace, but if I still had a pristine One X I don't think I would upgrade.

The 4.7" does include the Soft Keys. From what I understand there should be some dev support out there to enable to to change or modify the buttons to either take up less room, or let you take advantage of the entire screen. Plus they should disappear when watching a video/movie. :good:
EDIT: If you don't necessarily need to sell your One X, why not keep it as a spare, or use it as your media device? (mp3 player etc.)
Same here... Planning to sell my one X only if the price is right outside playstore... No word yet on pricing at the place where I live...

[Q] Nexus 7 advantages compare to another 7 inch tablet

Hey man, I want to buy Nexus 7 because of its price ( cheaper than the other, LOL XD)
But I still cannot decide which one to buy ( N7 or Samsung galaxy tab 2 7 inch )
This what makes me worries :
- N7 can be cracked easily
- N7 don't have external memory ( and I already searched over and ONLY found the 32 GB version, which is too much for me and makes it expensive )
- I don't know if N7 can play lots of music / video formats
- I don't know if Google wants to make another 7 inch tablet with a low price ( N7 price is VERY lower than the other FAMOUS tablet out there).
So can you help me to :
- Give me what do you think of N7 advantages compare to Samsung 7 inch tablet ( because this tablet is his rival for me, LOL )
- Are my statements up there are correct or wrong ?
- Are you having issues with your N7 ? ( Please give what you do to solve it )
- CONVINCE me more about N7, LOL
- Anybody has news if google wants to make another 7 inch low price tablet ?
- Can you guys recommend me another 7 inch tablet ( no IPAD MINI or Kindle Fire )
Thx a lot guys!:fingers-crossed:

The N7 is amazing. Its a Nexus device so it is first in line for updates and will always have the latest software available first. I personally will never buy anything that's not labeled Nexus ever again, but then again I'm very into rooting and custom ROMs.
I see no evidence of any weak screen or crack threat. I have no lifting and my device seems very solid. Don't drop it.
I have 16 gig version and it has plenty of memory. I have 9 gigs used on my gnex and there's tons of crap on my SD card so I'm not worried about space.
Hardware wise it is superior to most all other tablets and if you root, install a custom kernel, you can over clock and improve speed and fluidity.
My mom has a kindle fire and the Nexus embarrasses it.

i just picked up one last Friday at staples and man it is the best thing i ve bought for myself in a long time
now like the other post said i have no problem with lifting screen and it is very solid and stable. i have rooted it and tried a couple of roms
and its great if you download MX Player you can play just about any file format out the box. as for as dropping it ....DONT but that's common sense
get a case to protect it i just ordered the OEM case from amazon word of advise on the concern about the limited gb learn how to convert to MP4.H264 this is your best bet at getting the most out of your space and keep great video quality. music just use small bit-rate 128 should be fine and you should be great . i have 5 movies 1 season of true blood,3 videos and 5 albums and i still have 9 GB left so this is my advise good luck.
I got mine last week (32gb w/3G) rooted it and am having a blast with it. Loaded a couple of custom ROMs and lost 3G so I went back to stock rooted with no issues. I dumped the original Xoom for it and am not complaining. I picked up a Siedio case and have a 32gb Maxell AirStash on order for storage. I too could not decide between the GTab and the Nexus because I wanted LTE, but after getting the N7, even with having only 3G I am not disappointed.

I bought my nexus 7 (32gb as I always choose 32gb when possible) a few weeks back and have been so happy with it I haven't even rooted it. Build quality is excellent, none of the "common" problems here, plays any movie type I've tried using MX player, and plays any music file I've tried just fine with Google music. As for cracks, the screen is a 7 inch slab of glass, you want to do your best not to drop it. With that said I feel like my blurex case would do a decent job of protecting the screen from any potential mishaps, and the magnetic sensor that turns screen on and off as you open and close is freakin sweet!
And it's a nexus, once you try a nexus and experience the nexus difference you'll not want anything else.

The Samsung Tabs are great. I have a first gen Samsung Galaxy 7" from Sprint that I run CM10 on (JB 4.1.2) and while it's thicker and has a lower resolution, it plays fine. That said, getting official support from Samsung is a joke. My Tab never made it past Gingerbread and if it weren't for the great devs (gods) the tab would be almost useless now.
Samsung likes to use its Exynos processor (which is awesome) but doesn't support 4G, so there tends to be lots of variants in hardware... which can really make or break a buy if you don't buy the right model that has the most support.
As far as hardware comparisons, why bother? They both have the same basic hardware and aside from one being a smudge faster then the other, feature differences are trivial EXCEPT for any of the NOTE line because of their PEN. If you have a specific use for a pen such as notes or drawing... there really is no other choice.
A 32gb N7 is more then sufficient in storage needs. After ditching a memory card on my Galaxy Nexus 32gb... I've grown kind of fond of larger single storage. You don't have to worry about where to store your stuff so that CMW will find it and let you flash, you also don't have to worry about SOME apps installing to internal while some install to external. You just have 1 large pool.
Lack of SD makes it a little complicated to transfer files on and off your tab, until you figure out there are easier and better ways such as WiFi File Explorer (recommended) or Cloud storage. WiFi File Explorer creates a Web-Enabled Server on your device which you can access from any Browser. Makes it easy to wirelessly transfer large files from device to device, such as phone to tablet.
The N7 feels great in the hand. The really only issue is screen lift on one side but seriously it is like 1mm difference that everyone is freaking out over. No one ever even notices it until someone mentions it and they go looking for it. Asus has corrected the problem and newer devices such as a 32gb or 3G are already fixed and should be a non-issue now.
I recommend the N7 to everyone and lots of family now own one. On the plus side, we have the latest Android with multiuser support and additional cool features. Only a few Samsung tabs will see this. PLUS in a year from now, we'll get bumped to 5.0 when the Samsung tabs are forgotten about. This makes for great resale value and life longevity.
The nexus 7 is a amazing tablet to use. Since it carry's the nexus name you can be sure there will be updates.
No matter if you choose to run it stock but rooted or choose to run custom ROM on it. Basic web surfing and watching some YouTube videos nets me little over 24 hours on a full charge.
If your thinking about buying a 7" tablet. Go ahead and buy the 32gb nexus 7 you will be glad you did. Just be careful don't drop it.
I owned my nexus 7 for two weeks now and love it. The nexus 7 is the 2nd android tablet I ever owned. The first being the older kindle fire but I sold it for the nexus.

I have a Galaxy Tab 7.7 with Verizon and just got a Nexus 7 with 3G because I'm fed up with Verizon and Samsung dragging their butts releasing updates. While the screen's a little smaller and HSPA+ is a slower than LTE, I'm not at all feeling like I downgraded.
Anyone in the market for a GT 7.7?

Well, thanks a lot guys! Now I'm going to buy one N7!!!!!!!
N7 all the way! Just got one 2 days ago and wondered why didn't I get it earlier! Build quality is top notch but as with any tablet, be careful not to drop it! 4.2.1 is also an absolute joy to use
I would get the international version of the Samsung and use it as a phone. N7 may get that functionality with some awesome Dev work.....emphasis on the may.

I disagree, I don't think the Nexus can crack easily. Me being stupid, I had put it in my pocket every day, which stressed the screen a little bit each day. It took 2 months to actually break, which to me seems like a long time. That's just my opinion though. As the the price, I think it should be a deciding factor, because why should you get an iPad Mini for example, when you could get N7 for $120 cheaper. I know there are some perks, but still.

[Q] is nexus 7 (2012) still a good buy?

From a local store it is currently it is 1/2 price compared to nexus 7 (2013) from google play. So i am very tempted to buy it, so far I haven't felt the need for tablets but was thinking of using it to watch movies/videos when on the train commuting.
I don't know if I want to spend AU$300 for a 2013 model when this model is now $154 here.
From what i know, the good stuff about 2013 is
- 2GB RAM (This is probably the biggest thing)
- 1080p screen (Don't care too much about this, most stuff i watch is 720p anyway)
- Faster CPU
- Rear camera (Don't care!)
My intended usage is
- read books
- watch videos/movies
- play some light casual games
- light web surfing
- developing / testing tablet apps
So, will the 2012 be good enough if I don't need high performance? I am having a hard time justifying a 2x price for a category of device I have never owned and didn't think I need until now.
Yup, I think for that price the 2012 version is still bang for bucks and should be more then sufficient for the usage you planned.
The screen itself is the biggest upgrade over the 2012 N7. The colors are so vibrant on the 2013 model, side by side it makes the 2012 N7 screen look cheap.

---------------- but nexus 7 2013 fhd - IS THE great!
I HAVE BOTH n7 2012 3g and 2013 - and 2012 i have been installed to my car
The 2012 7 is still a great tab. While the screen is what everyone talks about on the new model, I think the 2012 one looks great itself. And while I'm sure the difference is noticeable if the 2 are side by side, when I looked at the 2013 model in store I didn't notice a difference.

Agree. At half price it is a terrific tablet. The screen is not a problem. The speakers are not great but it is a superb tablet. Get it quickly.
Cool thanks. I ordered one.
Cant complain. I got mine in the mail and was disappointed not to have a rear camera. But I like it nonetheless. Can't complain about having a tablet at all.
Ebay $120 refurbed 16gb
For that price worth it. There have been issues (fixable) so it is somewhat a roll of the dice. Maybe the refurbed is the better way to go.
Still a good buy for your needs.
My intended usage is
- read books
- watch videos/movies
- play some light casual games
- light web surfing
- developing / testing tablet apps
My only concern with it is that it's very slow compared to my Nexus 4. But there was a time when my Nexus 7 felt lightyears ahead of my GS2. So I guess it depends on what you compare it to.
For that price I would go for the n72012 the n7 is still capable of handling a good amount of application's.
