Known Issues? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
are there any known issues so far?
Best regards
Multisaft7

You do realize production units don't even ship for two more weeks?
All you have to go on so far are the pre-production units handed out at the show.
We do know the software won't be finalized until the actual ship date. Whatever problems the device has then - are not likely to be the same as the early units.

Gingerbread? Already?

androidcodex.com/gingerbread-is-coming.html?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=gingerbread-is-coming
well, it was always destined to come out before the end of the year, whether the article is correct about the October date is anyones guess.
People have already learned their lesson with how long it took Froyo to come out...
I wouldn't expect Gingerbread any earlier than December with the time Google needs to keep updating it before eventually releasing it.

Don't forget, Google did say that after Froyo they would begin a 6month till next update period, where updates wouldn't come out for 6 months. I figure June (when froyo was released) is 6 months from December so technically it still fits googles model.
It sucks how only specific phones are going to get the update

i think he meant older phones wont get it but that's understandable because 3.0 is said to bring GUI improvements which may need 1Ghz or above..
Gingerbread sounds delicious
The article repeats rumors knocked down by Dan Morrill
Re release date:
When will other Google products support WebM and VP8?
WebM support in Android is expected in the Gingerbread release (currently planned for Q4, 2010). We expect many other Google products to adopt WebM and VP8 as they prioritize it with their other product requirements. Keep an eye on the WebM blog for announcements.

actually they meant after gingerbread and its going to be yearly not 6 months
Well we might start seeing Gingerbread in October, but probably officially rolls out in December. Sounds about right.
Funny how the article lists phones which meet the requirements but neglect to include Google's Flagship Nexus One.
Currently there are only a handful of devices with these types of specifications, among them the Samsung Galaxy S and the HTC Desire.

Well those requirements are fake anyways, Google denied it directly, so I wouldn't care what phones they put in a list.
Hopefully October or sooner The Nexus should have no problem running it

maybe they will be announcing something cool about gingerbread on august 12th?

We won't see Gingerbread before December. I seriously doubt we'll see it this year. Likely January-February time frame.

You're in Japan as well? I hope it takes only 2 days to get here. The wait is killing me.
Chinese new year starts I think today, if they wait to ship it will be 3 weeks.

I was one of those 50 un-fortunate guys whose shipping date changed from 9th Jan to 15-22 Jan and to 29th Jan, its already 3:00 p.m in U.A.E and no news from NI or factory. I'm not asking for any tracking no, just need a confirmation at moment that its shipped. I really don't know what to talk about this company at the moment. We all have waited so long with false hope. At-least NI don't fails us again.
Well, it is almost 8 pm in China at the moment, so I lost my faith in it at this moment...

Think positive. Better to get adam in March, than next year.
Honestly, I am ok with it being delayed, but in all honesty its bad form to post a sarcastic blog about how everything is not delayed, and then have it delayed:

Better to have a Xoom in February than an Adam in March.
...all kidding aside, I'm really hoping they got the shipments out and just haven't updated things. With the holidays going in in China right now, it could REALLY slow things down and I'm not interested in waiting any longer.
--edit--
And to the topic of the thread, there hasn't been any change in my order status lately. (Moved from the 9th to the 15th-22nd window to the 29th.)

Yeah, I am not going to wait if my order gets pushed back again. This is getting rediculous. Their are so many great tablets coming out and if I can't get my Adam soon I am going to go else where. Don't get me wrong, I really want the Adam but I feel add if notion ink thinks that everyone is going to put up with continual delays without giving us any info as to what's going on. They should at least give us an update as it is the 29th.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I honestly cannot see us (the 9th > 15th-22nd > 29th club) getting their Adams for at least 2 weeks - Chinese New Year.
A shameful lack of communication from NI and hve you guys realised the "cancel your order has been removed from the NI preorder update page.
I have been a loyal follower for 9 months, I'm just disappointed to say I no longer believe anything posted by Rohan regarding hardware specs and especially shipping dates.
Rohan Shravan just outright refuses to update on shipping which is an enormous worry. The last he said was "2nd and 3rd" batches would ship on time and then slips in the Chinese New Year problem.
I don't even have a pre-order so i am thinking April+ for me(and many others) to have a chance to get one.
I don't envy Mr. Shravan to much, he must be under much stress from all directions.
Well, maybe........
- I read somewhere that a notification will be send only after it arrived in Hong Kong, not out of the fabric
- The cancellation link from our preordersite has been removed
- Rohan said in his blog the 2nd batch will be in time
- There is no statement of delay such as the last delay (12 seconds before end of day)
- Chinese New Year starts on tuesday?
So maybe, just maybe we will get our trackingmail on monday, the last day before Chinese New Year???
Fingers crossed :-o
Leon
I read someone in NotionAddicts requested a cancellation on the shipping date, and was told (s)he could still cancel as his (her) Adam was not shipped.
So, I rather assume the shipment was delayed without any notice / a change in the estimated shipping date on the NI site than get disappointed.
I'm pretty sure Rohan stated on the blog that all the Adams would be shipped out even during the chinese new year. And that a small batch of screens got busted on their way over, but the company that makes them will stay and fix the ones that got broken before they leave for the new year.
Here's his quote taken from the blog:
"The second & third phase of shipments will start on time.
Little bad and good news, one of our shipments for the touch screens got damaged while transportation which is going to effect a fraction of our customers. To make things worse, its New Year in China and every manufacturing plant is closed. But our touch-screen partners, Sinotek (also known as Sintek), will stay open for the Chinese New Year and re-manufacture all the remaining touch screens to deliver. I am making this special note, because we are really overwhelm at their response and want to thank all the employees at their firm who are going to miss their New Year celebrations and home visits."
So have hope! At least you made it into the pre orders. I have to wait until they open it up to the public.

Elocity A10 official release announcement

http://www.elocitynow.com/docs/pr_2011_0204.pdf
So the above link shows the new tabs available on pre-order feb 15th and will ship with Froyo 2.2 not Gingerbread. These tablets all have the multi-touch screens we wish for and wireless n. The 10.1" screen is the first available. No mention of when the the a7x will be available to order or price point. The cheapest is the 4gb model 10.1" screen for a "discounted" price of $399. So I assume as soon as these actually come out they will raise the price which seems right to me. The $399 is a really attractive price for this device!!
I just thought I would post the official link as I thought it was interesting. If they had the 7x for $399 pre-order I would certainly seriously consider buying. In fact, I probably would just buy it. It is more than I can afford but what a nice device. I can't do the 10.1 " model. I really like the 7" form factor. It is so portable but still so usable!! Still though the original a7 for $299 is a pretty good deal.
Well with two weeks left to decide whether or not I am going to keep my a7 I think I will. The color Nook looks like a great device and it is nice to upgrade to 3.0 but I just have a hard time going backwards hardware wise. The a7 is so snappy and I like that. The screen and wireless n are the only issues I have with the device. argh!! I really want 3.0!!

What I posted last week was the official press release. They released it out on Feb 4th which you see on the notice there. I find it strange it took them about a week to finally get it posted on their website. But you will see its the same release we put on the site last week.

HTC One with 1.27 firmware

Hi,
I've just received my HTC One I just discovered that it has 1.27 firmware inside :| And OTA section doesn't show updates :\
What can I do? Can I update to 1.28 (HTC Stock) without flashing a custom rom?

Hi,
I noticed too a weird bluetooth connectivity in my car, with sound skipping.
It seems that disabling wifi does help.
On this s600 Thread they said it will come end of april or may. 4.2.2 features a good performance boost.
If it gets updated to 4.2.2, would the camera app have the photosphere or something similar.

If any of you really think they're updating to 4.2.2 in the next 30 or even 60 days you're living in dreamworld. HTC's priority is the production and sale of this handset to get them back into the black. They're not going to rush to bring out a minor iterative update that few are desperate for and no-one needs.

Agreed. The priority should be firmware updates to address any issues that early-adopters encounter and big, RELEVANT updates like KLP. HTC made an active decision NOT to use 4.2.2, so the idea that some are suggesting that they're going to release the phone with 4.1 and then scrabble to bring 4.2.2 anyway is a bit silly.

Dreamworld? Just so you know every company has what we call "Departments" just because a company focuses on marketing doesn't mean their R&D department would also do marketing tasks and halt R&D(Research & Development).

unless the firmware developers are doing the manufacturing of the handsets at the factories then what you say makes no sense
some people's logic is seriously lol funny, software development does not just stop b/c they need to speed up the manufacturing process in the plants, and if it did how would that help the cause when they do not even work there?

There's nothing wrong with my logic, this is just common sense combined with observational evidence from past handsets. I think you've got the wrong end of the stick here - and it might be my fault for not being clearer. I'm not suggesting they won't bring it out for reasons of available 'manpower.' I'm just suggesting they have priorities, and a bottom line - and you sir, being one of the 2% public (along with me) who know and care about things like .x android iterations are not a priority. They made an active decision to go with 4.1. New software updates mean software engineers to combine with Sense, licensing with google, training and updating customer service personnel in case of problems/bugs with the update. All this and more cost MONEY. Can they do it? Sure. WILL they do it for a tiny update iteration that's not important to anyone outside the 2% and something that's too irrelevant to market and advertise about? HELL NO.
Anyway I'll bookmark this thread - will give it 60 days and see if Im wrong. My guess is you'll never see it. They'll jump to KLP. It makes more financial sense and my 'funny logic' tells me their business is financially motivated.
You seem to labouring under the impression that HTC either allow all their code division to sit on their hands for months on end whilst each batch is shipped out and sold, only earning their keep ready for the next manufacturing run (either that or you're assuming they are laid off for months at a time, allowing the competition time to head hunt them!)

I agree people are delusional if they think HTC will release 4.2.2 anytime in the next 6 months. HTC has proven time and time again to lie about release dates and take their sweet time. They are as bad as Motorola. Nothing has changed with the one and if we do get key lime pie it will be 8 months after Google releases it if HTC hasn't folded by then. They are gambling the whole company on the one release. Hope it does pay off for them as their phone hardware look and build is nice.

Nexus 9 - New Revision

I've looked everywhere but there is no information about the new revision of Nexus 9 on XDA
Android Authority states that HTC revised the Nexus
http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-9-hardware-revision-buttons-570867/
Anyone has any idea if it has rolled out and about the new revision number?
Edit: @EverythingPortable shared the revisions;
Old HT4BEJT = Nov 14(bad/old revision)
New HT4BNJT = Nov 22(good/new revision)
...it'll be good to know, I've been patiently waiting to get an updated production line ...never bought anything during the first few months; lots of software and hardware issues!
All I know, they've changed HW buttons, they're not that sinked in the body anymore. But probably more changers are inside...
I also heard it have lesser light bleed
The nexus 9 32gb i got yesterday was manufactured 2014-11-14. It had both the HW buttons problem and some serious light bleed problems.
Got a new one today, 16gb manufactured 2014-11-22. I can confirm the HW buttons are fixed, the dont sink in to the body anymore. The the light bleed problems are almost fixed, i would say 70-80% gone.
Im keeping this one = )

Kind of annoyed, my buttons aren't great and the back makes quite a loud popping sound under light pressure so I decided to RMA it (mine was manufactured Oct 16th) and the one I've just been sent as a replacement was manufactured Oct 15th, so BEFORE my current one, despite the fact it was sent around a month later. So it seems unlikely the buttons will be fixed
i am in the process of RMA'ing a nex 9 through goog.

The one I have that is manufactured in November (HT4B8J) had the volume buttons flush to the frame which was worse than two that i had that were made in October.
Then this is the same as the N5 "revision" which was proven false. One person RMAs and gets a device with better buttons as you'd expect if you RMA. News sites report as "possible revision" because they have nothing better to do and readers interpret that as "confirmed revision by HTC!".
Check your sources people and don't believe everything you read on the internet.
agree with this. 100% agree!
i got suckered on the RMA bandwagon by reading the comments here.
did get a tablet RMA'ed. the serial number suggests it was EARLIER than the model I initially purchased.
the earlier model though has less light bleed and the buttons are (for now) even and not sunken in or "wiggly" so even though the RMA was an early version, its holding up well.
im waiting for the LTE model next year so i am happy for now. actually I was happy before but again reading these comments...

My Nexus 9 was manufactured in 1 Nov 2014, but the buttons stick out and are clicky, and there's only a little bit of light bleeding.
Ive got HT4AHJ is this new or old revision?
