OTG or regular USB cable for external keyboard? - Acer Iconia A500

I have been using a ps2-active usb adapter to run my old clicky keyboard to my A200, but thought that I will be upgrading to a 500 or 510 or 700 shortly so was going to try a micro usb-> female full sized usb cable since the full sized usb port is missing on most current tablets. I bought one on amazon but didn't get any connection and then saw it was a OTG cable after I ordered. I wasn't even sure to check first hand if there is any difference between a micro -> female full usb port cable that is OTG vs. non-OTG... or if I just have a defective cable.

New MHL cable supports USB on Go

It seams that the change to the MHL cable is to allow USB on Go with the same cable

there is a MHL adapter that gives you a male 11 pin micro USB to female HDMI so you can just plug a standard male to male HDMI cable from adapter to TV.
see:
Samsung Galaxy S III MHL to HDMI adapter
Does anyone know if this new adapter will work with the Galaxy Nexus, as well? Also, does it charge the phone--or at least keep it from being drained--when USB OTG is being used? I've been looking for a way to use USB OTG with a flash drive on my GN while also charging/powering the phone. USB OTG is a real power hog.
It should, but on mine it doesn't.
I've got a new MHL cable and a USB OTG cable in the hope I could plug my MHL into the SGS3, use a powered USB hub connected to the Micro USB on the MHL and then connect a keyboard and mouse into the USB hub, then connect the HDMI to the TV.
For me it doesn't work. I thought this was the whole reason they changed the MHL cable to the new type. Can anyone else confirm?

can we get an update on this situation here? How
can we get MHL AND USB OTG?
My reading of the link is that the micro USB port has been repinned to provide USB on the go and not that the cable allows for this.On the mhl cable there is a female HDMI port and a micro USB ( both female) which must be used by the charger.
If the usb connection is also female type, we have to use a usb otg cable to get it work. But at the moment my phone also wont recognize any devices -.-' only mhl and nothing else.
I bought this adapter for 25 euros and want to have it working.
I also asked samsung on facebook 'bout this problem, and everything the told me:
Go support site...
very helpful.
I hope the will enable this feature in a future update.

[Q] lapdock 100 and HTC EVO 4G?

Can this phone work with the Lapdock 100 with the right adapters? I was also wondering if I just needed the micro HDMI male to female cable or do I need micro USB male to female as well for the keyboard to work? or can I just plus the charging cable into one of the fullsize USB ports on the back?

USB OTG Tiny

Is their a tiny USB OTG Adapter? I am getting a micro USB flash drive and I have an OTG cable but its long. I would like a wire that can be as small as possible. Is there such a wire?
I have a micro USB adapter attached to an OTG micro USB adapter ..

I had searched Amazon for 'usb otg cable' and there are lots of them. The one I got is 5" long and had a 90 degree microusb connector so the cable is parallel to the bottom of the N7. You can buy one for $1 or less. I also bought a tiny microusb reader and 32 GB microsd card that plug right in and weigh almost nothing.

[Q] Will This Adapter Work With a USB Flash Drive?

This is a Male Micro-USB to Female USB 2.0 adapter
Product Link
I want to exceed the 4GB file size limit and would like to not have a wire dangling off my Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 while I watch a movie.
It doesn't state that its USB OTG, but a review said it worked on his Motorola Xoom.
Please let me know what you guys think
it does look like the same as a USB OTG cable, only a direct adapter.
Take a gamble... it's cheap enough...
What is the worst that could happen other than it not working?

The advantage of "a bit of wire" is that you only have a micro USB plug and wire hanging off the USB socket as opposed to a rigid USB micro + USB F + USB M hanging off the USB socket. Which configuration puts less strain on the USB socket if it's knocked, twisted etc.?

[TWRP] Order your OTG cable today !

All newbie hackers out there,
With working TWRP upon us, plan for the future and go grab an OTG cable for yourself. It just so much easier to dump the files from Fire to USB drives which you'll attach via the cable. Get 5 OTG cables for $4 on ebay, search for "(5-pack) Micro-USB Male to USB 2.0 Female Host OTG Adapter Cable". Give away the spares to your friends for karma points!
The other item recommended is "All In One Multi-card Reader w/ 3 Ports USB 2.0 Hub Combo for SD/MMC/M2/MS MP YP" (less than $1), this way you can stick the reader into Fire via the OTG cable, and be able to access micro-SD cards.
Life is just so much easier with the right tools !!!
