Will there be an 8.9" or 10" version? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

To me, 720p is a phone res, and 1280x800 is barely bigger with a 3" bigger screen. I'd be willing to pay $100 more for a bigger res and a slightly bigger screen. Any rumors in the works about thid? All my googling just talks about the 7 since it's huge news now.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium

Rumors of a 10" version have started to surface as of today.

http://www.slashgear.com/google-nexus-10-reportedly-in-pipeline-29236412/

Nothing more than digitimes rumors. I wouldn't hold off.
Still, I share exactly the same sentiment, so I do hope they end up making one sometime.

10 inches is a bit too big for me. Heck it is verging on laptop screen sizes at that point. 7 inches is nice to hold in the hand but still big enough for comfortable viewing.

Screen size

As awesome as the note is what are your thoughts on what screen size you would like to see in the next note? I love big screens so I would go with 6" myself. Your thoughts?

If the overall size and the weight will remain the same as of the present Note I sure wouldn't mind a 6 incher.

Yea that would be awesome. I can't believe the note is this thin and light for it's screen size and batter. Samsung has really impressed me with the note . This is my first samsung phone and I'm in love

6" sounds about right, as long as they can minimize dimension increases by using a smaller bezel. In bed at night when reading ebooks or browsing the web, I hold the phone between my thumb and middle finger, pinching from top to bottom (large hands), and can barely do it with the Note, so don't want any larger height. Also, the weight's about at the limit for tiring my fingers over extended reading periods.
I'd be inclined for it to go somewhat smaller at 5"
and also change the res to 1280x720, cutting 10% off the width.
Are you guys crazy? Here's the size of an 5,7". It's looks so much bigger than 5,3! :0

Yeah, but look at the size of the screen.

Huge bezels on that e-reader make a big difference, but on second thought holding my fingers up to my screen making it 6 inches loss pretty big. I think 5.5" is more reasonably possible without increasing outside dimensions too much.
Yeah, ANYTHING bigger than 5'' is too big and will not fit in the pockets, it's pointless.
The BIGGEST size phone I'd buy is 5.5'' as something larger will not fit in my pockets & is therefore useless to me.
I like a device similar to the Note which is a balance between a smart phone & a tablet both in one.
It MUST fit in my pocket. The Note just about fits so people that are happy with a 6'' device will find it difficult fitting it in MOST of their clothes!
I think the Note is physically about as big as you can get before crossing into the Tablet space.
The niche of the Note is pockatable phone tablet.
The line is very narrow.
The Note is probably pushing the limits already. I bet the largest demographic for the Note is men... Because we're comfortable with the size. Most women wont be.

+ 1 It fits in my pocket, but it's tight, and difficult to get out if I'm not standing up. Just a hair smaller would help, but still bigger than the nexus.
I would go 5.5 inches at the most. I am pretty happy with the screen size. I'd love a 5.5 inch version, the same physical size but with smaller Bezels, mated to a quad core CPU, LTE, NFC, and a 4000mah battery. Also, a notification light would rock.

I agree - if it was exact 720p it would be narrower - the LG Nitro HD is only 68 mm wide, barely wider than the Atrix 2.
Anything 70 mm wide or less would be much easier to handle one-handed. The 83 mm width of my Note is quite daunting. I love everything else about it, or I would switch to the Nitro HD. If SG II HD LTE would only come with S-Pen, it would be my dream device ATM.
So screen size of 4.5" to 5", with 1280x720, would be the sweet spot for me!
I am used to the HTC 4.3 phone for about 2 years and switching to Galaxy Note is not problematic for me at all. I love the beautiful screen and the size is also an upgrade and moving toward a small Tablet territory. I like to read and watch video and also surf the net. This size appear quite good for those. I would not mind having a slightly bigger screen up to 6 inches as long as it as thin and remain fairly portable.
This Galaxy Note is so good that it is a mini version of the Tablet. It serves my needs for the time being and remain portable and still function as a phone - 2 very big pluses for this device. I can skip getting a tablet now.
I like big screen & i think this is the biggest it should be for note. If too big, it will be pain in the ass to carry every way..haha..

Good lord, that is pushing it. But, my weak-minded self will buy it day one for a disgustingly inflated price
I could see this being accepted, as long as the dimensions of the phone don't increase. I would like to see a titanium bezel to create an edge to edge display.
I agree, the size would be fine with an edge to edge display. I was figuring the next step for 'phablets' would be 6 inches or so. I think I can handle that size to carry around with me, considering (for me) my Nexus 7 is a tad to big to carry with me.

Fake...well I would say more just some 'inside speculation'...time will tell if there will be a 6.3 N3 or a note 6.3, but I am pretty sure there will be a N3 and it will be bigger and better.... But for now I am VERY pleased with my N2...:good:

Original note1 is 5.78" x 3.27" with 5.3" inch screen+ bezel (take of the bezel and u have 6.64'' diagonal.)
note 2 is longer 5.95'' x 3.17'' with 5.5'' inch screen + bezel (take of the bezel and u have even bigger diagonal of 6.74 '')
loads of room for bigger screen in both of them.

Without bezel you will just accidentally touch your screen when you dont want it. Thats for sure, there has to be some bezel.
For me bigger phone will be really way to much. GN2 just barely made it, any bigger and you wont be able to reach corners of screen with one hand.
Looks like from more leaks yesterday...8 core with a 6.3 inch screen is coming. I think 6.3 will work if the size of the phone itself can stay close to the N2. Though that is getting VERY close to a tablet size. I can't see them making 'phablets' much bigger or why even make 7 inch tablets?
Too big to be used comfortably, if this turn out to be true with the Note 3, I will look for alternative mobiles with 5.5 inch screen, I am definitely not buying such a thing.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk HD
Everyone says they'll buy it now.... wait till its out no one will buy it. Its not logical to have a phone thats 6.3 inches impossible to carry around. Hell people were whining about the size of the note 2. Unless the size of the screen is right the note 3 wont sell a lot, 8 cores or 12 the PHONE is too big to use. Well thats just my opinion
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Whats interesting is that if you measure diagonally the current note 2 from bezel corner to bezel corner its pretty close to 6.3 inches. So maybe theyll leave the size the same. Eliminate the bezel a lot. Add capacitative buttons. Voila . 6.3 screen mimimal bezel and still has buttons somewhere on screen
With a 6.3 inch screen it's a tablet ... 5.5 inch is already too much for some ppl I know...
i used the galaxy tab 7.7 as a phone(yeah, i heard the calls with it up to my face) so 6.3 is more than welcome only if it has a 1080p screen
New SG4 and Note 3 will have screen along side and also foldable screens.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
It will have 1080p screen and by my calculations you WILL be able to fit a 6.2 inch screen with a 2mm bezel on each side so that the Note3 stays as wide as the current one
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Well it looks like that 'bigger real estate', concerning screen size, is coming...some love the idea, some hate it. The 'phablet' size is going to increase and Samsung seems to be taking the 7 inch tablet to 8....

Coming from a tiny little iPhone 4, being 3.5 inches, 4.7 is already overwhelming. I also don't think I have that kind of room in my pockets since i wear Skinny Jeans. The biggest worry I've had so far with getting the One will be fitting it in my pants. xD Definitely not disappointed, and really its only .3 inches more. Not that big deal. I agree I think it should be the full 5" but not at the expense of a bigger form factor, like more screen size w/ less bezel.
Well it may not be 5" but with the pixel density it'll be the most amazing screen. I can't wait to get my hands on it. I'm mad at my phone for not being the one! hmph!

for me is best this way, better pixel, and size is great!
I think it was probably a good call, as much as I like 5 inches, I think this is the phone that iPhone users can be confident in, especially after I've owned the DNA and converted a few that I wouldn't have recommended to previous models because of their usage and what they want in a phone.
The 4.7 is a nice median size for those upgrading from smaller form factors and those used to large form factor.

I was disappointed that it was not 5". But Sense 5 looks great, the camera software looks great, the screen looks great, the design looks great, the speakers look (and sound from what I've heard on videos) great. As it stands, there is so much great about this phone, it is making me easily forgive and forget about the 0.3" missing from this phone. I expect and hope, the next One flagship will be a 5" screen..

Thanks for us info bro
This is the first tablet news that has excited me since the 7.7 was announced!
It does "sound" tempting. But if the iPad Mini is in its sights then the price point will be the determining factor. IF they bring it to market at $400 or thereabouts...(depending on how Apple prices the "new Mini")....it'll fly off the shelves. Much more and only we "tech whores" are the likely customers.
The masses focus on price first and foremost. We small minority on specs. IMO of course.
I don't understand why it won't have a stylus. Even the 7. 7 would be complete if it only had a stylus like the s Pen. Also why not keep it at 7.7 just have a smaller bezel

The idea is probably to increase screen area without increasing the device's footprint, like they did with the S3 --> S4.
No stylus as not to step on the note 8s feet, but I feel samsung lost a good opportunity here, could have waited and released the note 8 with the full HD amoled screen.
Issue is, if the battery is too small then no go for me, I don't need a device that paper thin, up to 8-9mm is fine for me, as long as that extra space is used for a larger battery. I also hope this new amoled tab comes with better materials than the current tabs and samsung products, plastic is not nice and feels cheap, and looks cheap on the current samsungs.
If they make this with Amoled screen will be Killer..
One thing they should do is make it read NTFS format from stock.
Also adding a USB Host OTG port to the chassis would be a good feature...
Maybe
Sammobile has been speculating a Tab 3 8.0", and it seems that will have a AMOLED.
That would be nice, even more if its FULL HD.

Well had a good look at the new unreleased Note 8.0 in Hong Kong today..Looks good only tiny bit bigger than my 7.7
Showed the samsung guys my 7.7 running PA 3.15 and they couldnt believe when they looked at it and saw 4.2.2 version lol...
If it has Super amold screen then i think it will be killer.its running 4.1.2 out of the box.
was told it running qualcom processor not emmc..
asked about if it will Brick and they didnt know what i meant! lol...
either that or they avoided that question..
I'd say that the "successor" to the P6800 is the upcoming N5100 model. That's the Note 8.0 with GSM dialing capability. I'd like to see the smaller 7.7 form factor updated since it's more easily pocketable, but if my P6800 died I'd consider the new one. Negri is taking pre-orders now.
Well it's not going to be th Tab 3 either, based on specs. What is Samsung waiting for?

It wont come. Super amoled plus has some brand power as it is samsung works, but admittedly pls lcd or ips are taking over with more market share. Amoled save power when display black but guess what, it also consume more power when display white, the same in reverse order with lcd. It makes them even. But nowaday most websites are bright colour, so it is easy advantage for lcd. So another amoled device from samsung wont come. Another advantage Amoled has is visibility in direct sunlight. This is what tips amoled for me. I don't want to go back to lcd or something that I cannot view in sunlight.
No thats wrong. Amoled has better contrast and seems to be more colourful, but in terms of visibillity under sun light, lcd clear win (cause they use led lcd and consume more power). Its hard for amoled to see under sunlight but it is more colorful so thats a fake effect you got. Try under direct bright sunlight, amoled surely lose

I worry A LOT about its size because according to the most recent rumors it will have a 5.7" display while even the previously rumored 5.99" one disappointed me...
I think these rumors will turn out to be accurate seeing how Samsung recently made the S4's display slightly bigger than the SIII's while actually making the device itself "SMALLER".
I really hope they will offer at least 2 display sizes: a 6.3" one like the Mega (which I can't buy because of its too low specs ) and a smaller one which I really don't care what it will be...

A mobile phone should be the largest size possible which fits where I have *always* kept/carried my mobile phones/smartphones. 7" tablets are too big but not by much (a couple of years ago I tried the original Galaxy Tab 7" as soon as it came out but returned it), a Mega 6.3" would be more or less the perfect size for me. Eventually we will get there, I know it.
I have *always* wanted something like the Mega 6.3", even when people gawked at the first 4" smartphones or, later on, were saying that 4.3"/4.5" were "just too much"...
I think the market will coalesce around a couple of "standard" sizes: 5" and 6.5" (of course with small bezels, light, thin etc)

I am not interested in one handed operation in the slightest. I have always found "irritating" trying to operate touch screen mobile devices one handed, even when smartphones had less than 4" displays.
Large displays may be "overkill" if you look at it (and use it) as a "mobile phone", I see it (and use it) as a "pocket computer" because, well, it is.

1+ I totally agree!

7 inch tablet and 6.5 inch phone may have almost the same screen size but ease of handling and using it is not comparable because in most cases phones have very small bezel while tablets have wide one. As stated before if Note 3 has 6 inch screen and is still not much bigger than Note 2 then there is no problem with handling, it would be even easier than Note 2 to use. All that aside, personally I have used 2 hands approach since I got Note 2, the only gripe I have with it is I can't answer phone with one finger without serious stretching... I think it would not be hard to code answering (or not) mechanism that looks like Pie control in shape but from right or left down corner, or even better when phone is ringing and you touch the screen, then from that point sliding left answers the phone, right denies the call (with sliding directions to be configured as you like).
Forgot to mention I have big hands, so this is why it wouldn't be a problem, unlike someone with average sized hands,

Mobile phone maybe but we are speaking about phablet
Actually, I'm not worried about the size of the Note 3. I'm actually disappointed. I was expecting 6".

Wow lol, I hope it's 5.7 inch but the same body size as the note 2 with the side and top bezel reduced. .2 inches is a noticeable difference.

Listen, if you make anything smaller than a 6.3" inch, I will get the Xperia Z Ultra. You will lose millions of sales.
Just been holding the Samsung mega 6.3, it's a great size, kind of thinking if the note 3 is not even 6 it will be quite disappointing, when you hold it in your hands and realise the thinness, it's not a big deal at all, I say 6.3 all the way.

I think it would be noticeable if you were moving, say, from 3.5" to 3.7". From 5.5" to 5.7" I'm not so sure it makes much difference. With the Mega 6.3", Samsung proved that the Note 2 bezel can fit a bigger screen without increasing it's size. I believe 5.7" is doable with the current bezel size and 6" with a minor increase in size. Maybe just a couple of millimeters more in width and height.

I had the S3 and the S4, you definitely can notice the difference between the 2 phones in use. It won't be a HUGE difference from 5.5 to 5.7 but it'll be noticeable. Same with the Galaxy S2, I had the I9100 that had a 4.3 inch display and also had the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 which had a 4.5 inch display. You could definitely tell the difference.
I think 5.7 inches would be perfect in order to keep a decent amount of ppi with a 1080P panel. 6+ inches would be too big, in my opinion

Yes, 6 inch would be nice. I'm also dissapointed if it is turns out to be true.

Let's just all calm down and take a deep breath, and perhaps agree to disagree on certain matters.
What people in this thread were arguing upon is called an "opinion", and as much as everyone is entitled to their own, you also need to be considerate of other's too.
Thread cleaned.

As taip pat! :good:
I dont need it to be 6.3 but if it is not 6" (or the 5.99), I will seriously consider just going with the Xperia as much as I love my Note 2 and loved the Note 1 before. I am keeping my finger's crossed!
more than size, I'd like them to fix the input lag.. so the actions will follow your touches instantly.. I'm one of those affected by it..
