"Jelly Bean will come to the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S smartphones and the Xoom tablet in mid-July, but developers can download the app-development tools starting today from Google's Android developers site."
It's ridiculous that the Xoom will have Jellybean before we get ICS officially..
Android 4.1 Jellybean is coming to XOOM
I'm in luck! I have a Galaxy Nexus.
Man you got me all excited... You should edit your post. No where in that article dose it say that "Galaxy S" devices are getting Jelly Bean. Just Nexus branded devices.
And it kind of makes sense that the Xoom would get JB... Its been out a bit longer and didn't it already get its ICS update? Not sure on the ICS update, I don't really follow the Xoom so...
I have to say this though..... I've pretty much just stopped caring about any updates. I have a Galaxy S2 and a Galaxy10.1 both of them rooted and running Gingerbread and Honeycomb based roms. Caulks"GB"(S2) and GalaxyTask_14_Slim"HC"(GT10.1) I have got to say that both of my devices benchmark just as good(if not a little bit better) on GB roms as they do on ICS roms. And everything works as it should, no resets, lag or lockups.
Don't get me wrong, I would love official ICS on both of my devices. I just figure it's really not that important to me anymore. Plus I would rather any update that's pushed be as polished as it can be. After the mess HC was before the devs fixed it... I'm just saying...
Sent From My Galaxy10. 1 Class Starship...
Bahahaha! The GT will not see Jelly Bean. ****, we haven't even seen ICS yet. This is ridiculous. I have my GS3 pre-order arriving tomorrow and if I don't love it, I'll be trading it in for the Galaxy Nexus. I believe Nexus devices is the way to go really.
The reason the Xoom will get an update is because it is a reference device.

Hey buddy, how you doing!?!?
As I said in my post that you quoted... Just "Nexus" brand devices (Edit: plus the Xoom) will see Jelly Bean.
In reply you linked me to the same webpage the OP linked us to? I've already seen that Engadet articale. But I figured, hey maybe I missed something when I read it the first time. So I clicked the link again, and carefully reread the article again. You know... Just to make sure...
Well... I stand behind my my original statement. I've made study materials. (see photo below)
Example 1. The title: Please take note, in the title of the article their is mention of the following devices. The "Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the " Nexus S" and the "Xoom". No mention of a Galaxy S device.
Example 2. Somebody spilled the Beans!!! Clean up in aisle 9!!!
Example 3. Please show me where in example 3 it says anything about a Galaxy S device getting the Jelly Bean(4.1) update in mid July...

I'm sure we'll get JB unofficially...
Actually, the chances of us getting jelly bean is very high, this device is 11 month old, Google promised that any android device in the market will have at least 18 month of support. That means, any updates Google does to android in that period of time should get an update.

Well on May 9th 2011 Sprint and Google released the Nexus S 4g onto the world. The original Nexus S (gsm) was released on December 16 2010. So for the Nexus S4g should fall with the time frame of the 18 month upgrade but the regular Nexus S does not... So will we get it? I think Goog may say that well no since the original Nexus S shipped in Dec 2010 but since it was about 5 months late to market with the cdma nexus s 4g that should as i think get us an official update to JellyBean. If we do not get it then we should mail in jellybeans to google hq and demand an official update. Granted we can wait for the devs to get something but would it only be asop which to me sucks since no *#*#code#*#* codes are supported in asop which is a deal breaker for me.
I think if the nexus s 4g will get it the gsm nexus also will get it as they have the same hardware exept the radio. And the radio doesnt affect the performance so if ns4g gets it we also will get it. (My opinion)

This. But I think the NS can definitely run JB, if they won't bloat it with RAM usage, we have plenty of system space for even a bigger OS.
same for me, the 4g and the gsm are same hardware, and plus the dev down here will for sure find a solution for us "poor" nexus user...

anyone notice that if you take the ics stock non rooted it is slower way way slower then GB? I then rooted the phone and then flashed and stock ics that is rooted and that was slow still. I then re wipped again and flashed the performance mod from the stock rooted ics and its a bit better but still just a tad bit slower but not bad. i hope that JB is faster... I think that JB will be android 4.1 and not really 5.0 sort of like how windows 7 is not version 7 but version 6.1

First off, the 18 month policy doesn't actually exist. Google proposed it last year but it never took off. Sure, some companies said they would support it but it has been since been thrown to the wolves.

One of the best things about Google phones is that they are well supported. That is why I wouldn't fear that we will not get Jelly Bean.
Even in worst case scenario if there is no official update from Google, there will be plenty of unofficial ROMs, built from original sources.

Yeah, there are articles about it. But of course the authors are idiots for writing such non-sense. No way they do this after they spent a year trying to educate devs on how to write apps that work on phones and tablets. They aren't going to separate the SDK again. Jelly bean will surely be for phones and tablets.

that is rubbish... and two weeks ago my behind... ICS was to be out almost 6moths ago... and we live in an instant gratification society. If we took your view then we would still be on the original brick analog cellphone or better yet we would only have the rotary home phone and an operator picking up the line asking who you wanted and listing in on your calls.

http://www.sammobile.com/2012/05/01/this-is-the-galaxy-siii/
- The certificate date is April 20. The i9300 was certified in late January
- The model number suggests that it's an extremely high-end device
- It's not a Note nor a tablet
That's all. Is Samsung going to release a device better than the S III in the coming months?

The i9500 is a Tizen phone based on some user agent strings, I don't know about the i9800. It's supposed to get intel cpu.
I thought it was the name for the S4 variant for US markets.
I would make a guess at it being either a Tizen based phone or the next Nexus.

I'm not quite sure it's a Windows Phone because well here's the 3 WP7 from Samsung
I937

I677
Every time I see Samsung's designated code for Android handsets, they go for the 4 digit pattern, for international release of course. It can be the US version but at this point, every one is either still digging information about GS3 or busy making HOX vs GS3 threads.
most likely it will be the sgs4 come calling early or the next nexus
i supposed that is the variant for USA Market
Nah its the next Nexus phone for sure.

Samsung use 9xxx series for high end droid phones like sgs(9000), sgsl(9003), sgs2(9100), sgr(9103), so i think 9800 is probably a nexus one
Sent from my GT-I9103 using Tapatalk 2
From what I've quickly gathered, based on Samsung's pattern, I think this is a phone that is either similar to the Galaxy S line, or indeed a Galaxy S phone.
Samsung phones for carrier-specific don't resemble the i9*00 coding pattern. And this includes most of their WP phones.
Galaxy S: i9000
Vibrant: t959
Captivate: i897
Facinate: sch-i500
Epic 4G: sph-d700
Galaxy S II: i9100
AT&T S II: i777
T-Mo S II: t989
Epic 4G Touch: sph-d710
Galaxy S III: i9300
And the others, like their Nexus and region variants, have a pattern of keeping the i9*00 and changing the 00 with some numbers, or/and adding a letter after it.
Nexus S: i9020
Galaxy Nexus: i9250
Galaxy S/Nexus S/Galaxy S II variants: i9003, i9000M, i9000B, i9023, i9100M, i9100G, i9100T, etc.

That is what my understanding is..
This weekend we tweeted about Android 4.1 updates for the Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note II.
Let us explain what Samsung will do and how far they are at the moment.
Galaxy S III
The test firmwares for the Galaxy S III are passed and they are working on a public version of the first Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III.
The wait is on the public version and the agreement of Google:laugh:.
Galaxy S II
Samsung is still testing Android 4.1 for the Galaxy S II. The first tests are looking fine. Because the Galaxy S II is still selling very well will Samsung update the Galaxy S II to Android 4.1.
If Samsung decides in the last moment to not update the Galaxy S II, all Galaxy S II owners will get a value pack update. But till now there is no reason to not update the Galaxy S II to Android 4.1.:good:
Galaxy Note.
For the Galaxy Note it is the same story as for the Galaxy S II.
Tests are fine but there is still no official words by Samsung.
Galaxy Note II.
The Samsung Galaxy Note II would be showed at IFA 2012. The test software is currently based on Android 4.0. Our insider isn’t sure if Samsung will introduce the Galaxy Note II with Android 4.0 or Android 4.1.
If Samsung decides to use Android 4.0 at launch, an update to the Galaxy Note will be available a couple of months after.

much love Samsung, thanks for that!
I do remember a bit over a year ago, Google told their Android partners to ensure their phones got a minimum of updates. Can't remember if it was 18 months to 2 years worth or something like 4 major updates. E.g. 2.3.x to 4.0.x to 4.1.x to 4.2.x
Either way, I can't find the news article but apparently Google were not happy with the poor release of updates as it was holding Android back. Bad for business.
Given that it wasn't a request but more of a licensing demand, I expect Samsung to release 4.2.2 but no further. Basically we will hit 4.2.2 and then have a few minor tweaks and that's our lot.
The Note isn't even 2 years old yet, most people have a year to 18 months left on their contract, as its a contract, if there is a major bug, e.g. exynos root backdoor. Then contractually we can return the phone and demand to get out of our contract, that's why Samsung have to update for a minimum time frame or else the telco carriers will cry foul.

I know that but it gets updates directly from Google.

With Android 4.4 KitKat, Google is aiming to bring a better Android experience to the masses through features such as reduced memory consumption on low-memory (512MB) and low-cost devices, and that has had a lot of people hoping manufacturers will bring the new version of Android to some of their mid-range devices that may not otherwise be eligible for another update. Well, according to an image we received in our inbox, Samsung is thinking of doing just that, and is considering the update for some of its mid-range and low-end devices.
In a document SAMSUNG has decided to release KITKAT update for SAMSUNG GALAXY S III Mini.Yo can see in below image :

Really nice news - when it's true. I believe WHEN we get 4.4 it will come after Xmas, maybe january. They must sale their flagship S4. Anyway - the ACE 2 is also in the list, that's great, my wife has it and i really like to play around with this little thing. I mean the phone

i have read the source friend, it specifically says "However, just because Samsung is considering the update doesn’t mean the updates will actually come" so when you say "In a document SAMSUNG has decided to release KITKAT update for SAMSUNG GALAXY S III Mini" its misleading as they havent decided. ST-Ericsson are no more so the chances of an update is slim to none unfortunately.
Samsung first have to release new kernel for our device before kitkat it means we must get 4.2 maybe its true about ram but what about processor
because of heavy bloatware i think samsung have to redesign a touchwiz for our device its s4 mini which will get 4.4 most likely but sometimes miracle can happen . I hope we get new kernel for maclaw
They know it's possible. I mean, look at the Android development forums. There are already a few stable KitKat ROMs. They don't have an excuse to not release it.

If the KitKat bring the Samsung Secured System KNOX like the 4.3 I want not chocolates, I prefer the 4.1.2 . What brothel on Note 3 and on S4. :crying:

Page 1 already has posts like that.
Even if we already have Maclaw's version, i'd like this to be official, a lot of people have s3 minis now and it's not fair that the s4 may get an update but the s3 mini dont

It is. I just flashed his CM 11 4.4 fully working version. No major complain until now.
Just a tiny issue that the settings option for gallery is not working. But i think it is not a problem thinking all Maclaw's hard work.
Salute

don't you underestimate an official release... 99.9% of smartphones don't even know the word root but many care about updates and the s3 mini is one of the top 10 selling devices around the globe and also used to cost 400 euro. so they have to release it. otherwise the'll lose customers. ste-ericsson not giving drivers is an excuse, maclaw with some others is a single developer that has booted almost fully working kit kat for s3 mini, Of course samsung can release a stable kitkat... and in my s3 mini capacitive buttons don't work when i flash a custom rom so i really need the official kitkat...
I installed last night and everything looks good. Hats of to MacLaw.
Just 1 thing. I have i8190N and have lost NFC now. Would be nice to see a ROM for the N variant.

Still Good if...
I've been following Maclaw's work for months now, using his work as a "final" ROM for my device. However, what some users state here is a very valid idea, which I support. Is cool and all that we have Maclaw, Oliver and all of'em (without the drama, please save that for TV Soap Operas), but many many people out there would like to have the "Real Deal", be it for the sake of convenience -we sure enjoy testing every new update of our ROMs- but other people want an experience that "just works"- or because they prefer to have an officially backed up software. And let's face it, Samsung is the manufacturer of this phone and no one but the manufacturer would know better how it works and how to upgrade it. You custom developers are awesome, no doubt, but the manufacturer will always be a little above in the matter of knowing the device and undestanding it.
So, I really doubt Samsung will, after all this time, update our S3 mini, but I also think it would be awesome if they did so and I would totally use their update if they manage to improve the weak points of the last official one.
The question remains... did anyone get a legitimate version of KitKat?
If so, what are the chances of the G730A Model getting it, and of said thing is done, will it make it easier for us to root the G730A?
