Having some S III Issues... - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

Hey everyone,
So I have had my S III since Friday. Love the phone but having a few issues. I was hoping some of you may have some ideas...
1 - Icons in folders randomly rearrange themselves...?
2 - Smart Stay - Does ot work very well, playing games, reading etc... It turns off the screen??? I thought this was a selling point and it never works for me.
3 - Heat - phone get VERY warm, sometimes HOT.
4 - on the HOX I could change the volume from the lock screen, not on the S III am I missing a setting or is this not possible?
5 - Lock Screen, when i miss a text, a bubble pops up with a message in it and the number of texts i missed, is this available for missed emails using the gmail app or the mail app?
I'm comparing the HOX and the SIII for a few days before I make a final decision... Here is my pros/cons so far...
-Better Dev Support - Galaxy will always have better developer support - WINNER SIII
-Better Screen - One X has better screen - WINNER ONEX
-Build Quality - Both have been nice but X had Screen detachment issue (replacement has been fine) - WINNER TIE
-Button Placement - S III has better button placement (Power Button & capatitive buttons) - WINNER SIII
-Charge Port Placement - Port on One X is on the side, S III on bottom - WINNER ONEX
-Battery Life - So far One X has better battery life - ONEX
-Printer Support - S III will only print to Samsung printers - WINNER ONEX
-Lock Screen - One X has better productivity Lock Screen - WINNER ONEX
-Lock Screen Icons - S III has customizable lock screen icons - WINNER SIII
-Storage - S III has SD Card Slot - WINNER SIII
-Removable Battery - S III has a removeable battery - WINNER SIII
-Multitasking - S III multi-tasks correctly, One X does but is broken - WINNER SIII
-Camera - Cameras seem about the same - WINNER TIE
-Soft Button Placement - One X soft buttons in email app are on bottom and easier to reach - WINNER ONEX
Any help with the above issues would be really helpful.

1. To fix this press the menu button while inside of your apps folder and select View Type then Alphabetical Grid or List.
2. I have noticed this too. I think it is a feature that is not quite ready for prime time yet.
3. Mine does the same.
4. Not possible. I like this since I don't have to worry about accidentally changing the ringer volume while the phone is in my pocket or pouch.
5. I have not seen where this is available for email. I just rely on the icons in the notification area. It doesn't provide a count but it works well enough to let me know that I do have unread emails

5. I cant find it at the moment, but I know somewhere there was a spot where you could change the lock screen shortcuts. I know not much help but at least you know its there.

I stopped reading after you said the One X had better battery. There's no possible way. I've had my phone off charger for 26 hours and I'm at 25%. Multiple battery tests have concluded almost double the battery time of the One X.

Glad you stopped reading... Obviously you didn't understand where I was coming from. I said SO FAR, the One X's battery has been better. My phone is having a few issues with it's exchange sync etc... I think this is eating the battery. I will see over the next few days (Exchange issue is fixed) and update my little comparison sheet. My one X would get me through the day with between 25 and 50% left on it. My SIII was at 6% last night when I plugged it in...
hawkeye2188: I'm not looking to change the shortcuts, i'm looking for an unchecked email notification like the text bubble that comes up...

How is this a win for the ONEX? Nothing iritates me more than having HTC put the damn charging cable on the side where your hands are when using the phone.

I personally am not a fan of the charge port on the bottom. When I hold the HOX in my right hand (I'm right handed) my fingers are not in the way of the port or wire.
Also in the car the phone sits right side up in the cupholder with the wire plugged in. I don't have to keep the phone sitting upside down where I can't read if a message or email or whatever some in.

Where are the battery tests which show the Galaxy SIII has double the battery time of the One X? Here's a reputable review which shows that the One X lasts longer:

There are a lot of factors as to what can cause battery drain. I know the SIII has the larger battery but there is NO way it is lasting "double" the one x...I too would love to see these tests.

Smart stay works well in decent lighting and when the phone is perpendicular to your face. It still works decently with the phone at a slight angle, but the performance tapers off greatly when lighting conditions are poor. A combination of poor lighting and poor phone angle basically guarantees that it will not work.

Ok, I can understand your reasoning then. I always hold my phone with the left hand. And never use a cupholder in the car. I always have a mount.
But in your case i can see where your two gripes are very valid.

This has been my experience too. Works fine in daytime or brightly lit areas, but in dim rooms or at night it fails pretty much every time. Haven't noticed a difference with the angle.

[DISCUSSION] First Impressions of the Desire Z?

So whats your first impressions guys?
Mine are:- (coming from nexus one)
Im missing my big coloured ball lol (although we do have a lil light on the desire z, it doesnt seem to flash to show missed calls, emails etc... only seems to flash when ringing & I cant figure out how to change this for other notifications).
Loving the keyboard
Loving the updated HTC Sense
I have the loose hinge prob, but for now its not a concern
It noticably 'speedier' that my nexus
Cant comment on battery life yet as only had for one day
HTC Sense.com is still a bit buggy (couldnt locate my phone, also couldnt sent a text message from online)
Screen is very nice (both in responsiveness & colour etc)
WIFI stronger than nexus one

Over in the G2 forums, they're working on getting this to work as a notification light (they're way ahead of us here on the DZ side).

This issue with the hinge is off-putting, read about it in some of the reviews before it was released so to hear it from an actual user of the production model is rather off-putting.
I've been using mine since this morning. Still getting used to the 4 row keyboard. Hinge is loose but ok. For now. Colours are less vibrant but more accurate than my Desire. Battery seems on A par.
It did start running A bit sluggish but I re booted and its fast again.

I picked up a DZ on the 3rd and I am surprised how heavy it feels, but that's not an issue. I came from an HTC Legend.
Things I am happy about:
- New HTC Sense has many new features (skins, htcsense.com, ring profiles, reorderable screens)
- Flash works surprisingly well, especially for games. Silky smooth in fullscreen.
- The keyboard is great. I was surprised that there's a tab key and a dedicated question-mark key.
- The camera app is greatly improved (compared to the Legend). Even supports 1-2 person automatic self-portraits.
- The screen is nice, it seems the same as my wife's Desire (minus Z), which is LCD version.
- Wifi signal is better than with the Legend
- The phone is more aesthetically pleasing in person than it is in images. I like it a lot, even if it is a bit plain-ish
- You can share multiple videos to facebook at once now! (I think, I didn't actually do it but it let me select multiple).
- I LOVE the HTC flashlight app, and the light on this phone amazes me.
Things I am iffy about or dislike:
- HTC Sense is still choppy in the apps list and in various HTC apps.
- The phone gets a little slow in things like Angry Birds. Every few seconds there's a stutter. It just doesn't seem as fast I was expecting coming from a 2.1 Legend.
- The keyboard and soft-key lights sometimes go out on me and flicker on and off as if the software doesn't know that I have the keyboard out and I am typing.
- Swype has to be turned off and on sometimes after using the hard keyboard. It juts doesn't put the words into the input boxes for some reason.
- The battery life so far is pretty bad. But I think I had too much going on.
- The camera photos seem dull compared to what I saw in the viewfinder immediately prior to taking the photo
- The speaker is not nearly as good as I was expecting, I was hoping it would be better than the Legends by a considerable margin.
- The HTC likes app seems pointless.
I am torn as to whether or not I want to use HTC sense. I wish I could pick and choose pieces of it. I'd completely ditch the app drawer, for example.

I came from a buggy Samsung Galaxy S and have been enjoying my HDZ for two and a half days now. Here are my impressions:
- Screen is nice but pales in comparison to the SGS.
- I am still getting used to the flip out keyboard. Swype remains my preferred input method.
- The hinge doesn't seem to be an issue for me, but then again, I don't use the keyboard all that much.
- Speed is very good. My Quadrant scores are in the mid 1500's, which is lower than my SGS, but it feels faster than my SGS ever did.
- Camera is very nice, although I haven't loaded the pics onto my PC yet to see the quality. I'm heading off on vacation next week, which will be the true test of the camera and camcorder functions.
- I also really like the flashlight utility - very simple and yet oh so functional.
- Sense UI took a little getting used to, and after about a day I switched back to LauncherPro.
- The phone still feels heavy to me, but at least there's some weight behind it when you beat iPhone users over the head
- The speaker is a letdown. It is very tinny and sounds hollow, even for the ringtone.
- I still press the touchpad as though it's a home button a lot, or press the home button instead of the menu button. This is most likely just getting used to the form factor compared to the SGS and I expect it will improve with time.
Overall, I like the phone quite a bit. It certainly doesn't have that sexy wow factor of the SGS or iPhone 4, but the utilitarian in me loves the speed, functionality and usability of the HDZ.

wow.. thats pretty bad :|
I got mine yesterday, and in general I'm rather disappointed.
The hinge is terrible - it opens by itself, and when I try and use it with the phone closed, the top half wobbles from side to side!
The weight is a bit more than I expected, and the keyboard is too wide for typing on with 2 hands. Maybe I have small hands compared to some, but I feel myself having to stretch my hands to reach certain keys.
The whole point in taking this phone was for the hardware keyboard - and I find myself not using it already!
I've just restored it all back to default, and then am away to place it back in its box and go back to my HD2! I'll maybe see about a Desire HD, but I'm more drawn towards a regular Desire as I think my HD2 was too big, and the Desire HD is a little bit bigger.
Had mine a couple of days (Desire Z purchased in the UK) and here are some impressions (coming from a nexus one):
-Screen is amazingly crisp, viewing angle of it is amazing, no loss of colour even looking at the screen from extreme angles
-Trackpad is very responsive, even more so than the ball on the N1
- New HTC sense is very pretty, much more customisable than my first experience of it on the Hero
- Oh god the boot times. For those of you who haven't done so yet - reboot your phone. Mine, even fully laden with apps shuts down in under 2 seconds and boots up in 2-3. The boot screen is there long enough for the startup sound to play, then the phone is 100% operational. Never seen such a fast boot on a smartphone.
- Aluminium is nice and even the plastic parts feel nice and sturdy
- Speaker is a little tinny, but as all i'll ever hear out of it are ringtones and notifications, not a massive issue
- Keyboard is hands down the best i've used on a mobile device (though I occasionally suffer from the aforementioned issue with the backlight being intermittent, it seems to be a rare occurrence)
- Seems faster and more responsive than my rooted and overclocked N1
- Side buttons are solid and easy to press, nice coming from an N1 with its slightly flaky power button
- The hinge. I have no issue with it and think it's a very well engineered solution to revealing the keyboard. While yes, if you pick the whole unit up by the screen or hold it upside down it flops a bit, I never hold my phone like this so it's a total non-issue. In standard use it has never opened or closed without me wanting it to. Perhaps it varies by region, as I haven't experienced the screen wobble while the hinge is closed either.
Overall exceedingly happy with it, without doubt the best qwerty handset i've ever used.
So I'm having a weird issue that I haven't been addressed yet. I have a review unit for my site, thecellularguru.com, as well as one I bought for myself because I loved it so much and wanted to use it on Rogers.
Both units have phantom screen touches where every once in a while the phone will become possessed and start selecting things randomly. I can sometimes make it stop by holding a finger down on the screen which seems to snap it out of its weirdness but it always comes back. One unit was barely functional so I returned it and the other one seems better but its quite disconcerting.
Anyone else had these problems?

**Have you ever any little disappointment with your galaxy SII, what you think guys!!

Remember these pros&cons are figured on stock Phone we got from Samsung, as well as no extra tweaks considered
This is not a review of the phone. The Idea behind this topic is that it has been 10 Months of time SII launched and as usual every cellphone has its own Pros. & Cons.
What you found good and what you think this phone is missing.
From hardware to software, build quality, its Camera, Display, and software update support from Samsung Mobile, Everything, feel free to input your Experience here!!
My Input, Cons.
• Gorilla Glass ?- There are so many Youtube videos to be amazed about the Power of unbreakable and unsearchable Gorilla glass – But many Samsung Galaxy S2 users complaining got scratches!
• The swiping screen lock , that opens the phone is waste of time, as there is a hardware unlock key already.
• Battery Life – Battery life is about Max 14 Hrs and Minimum 10 Hrs on a heavy use after a overnight full charge .
This is standard usage without any tweak .
• No hardware key for camera – It really sucks, If I want to use camera I have to go through the software menu, no hot hardware key to start the camera!
• Plastic Uni body feels cheap in the Hands
• I am missing one touch call answering function like, Iphone or Htc! Swyping from one end to onother is a hassle
My Input, Pros.
• Screens display Quality is superb – bright with vibrant real colors
• The 4.3" Screen size is good enough for games and watching movies, It makes hassle free handling.
• Love the camera’s features like touch focus and pinch to zoom.
• Light weight(119 g)- You don’t feel like carrying it !
• Call quality is good
• Love the video ([email protected] ) quality and the image quality (8 MP, 3264×2448 pixels, autofocus, LED flash)
• Phone is running in top speed as it has dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM, experience extremely fast operations all the time.
• Software update: all ready 6-7 leaks of ICS
This is what I experienced with Galaxy SII, now guys your turn
Until now its been a great ride.
Way better than my HTC.

Settings --> Call --> Answering key "Accept incoming calls by pressing the home key".
I presume from your post you've had your phone for nearly 10 months and not found this option.
Let's see what else there was:
Gorilla Glass isn't scratch proof.
Swiping screen unlock prevents phone unlocking itself in your pocket.
Battery life rant, I wouldn't touch your comments on this with a barge pole.
No hardware key for camera - mod exists.
Plastic feel - Get a case

I've been using it for around 8 months now. I've been able to find solutions to many of my initial complaints. The only disappointment that I can't get over is the wake-up lag. I'm just jealous of friends with HTC phones whose phones turn on instantly. This may seem like a small issue to some people, but I turn on the screen around 200 times a day. 600 ms lost on each one makes it 2 minutes a day lost just waiting for the phone to wake up. In 8 months, I've lost a total of 480 minutes, which makes 8 hours of my life lost just because of this "feature".
The only thing i don't like is: Y S2 NO HAVE TEGRA2 GPU...
1. I have a screen protecter on mine, just to be on the save side.
2. I use widget locker, and made my own lockscreen
3. I got the the 2000mah originale samsung batteri, right now its been running over 19hours, 4h 12min screen on, and I still have 27% on battery.
4. Yeah feels a bit plasticy
5. Try another dialer?
Ive had my SGS2 for over 6months now, all n all im very happy with it.

Gorilla glass is not scratch proof, its scratch resistant so its possible to get scratches. Also this is xda so some of your complaints has been worked/fixed on custom roms. I last around 19 hours with wifi on, streaming some vids, some games, a lot of txt message and a few phone calls. Also tons of music. Some roms do have a hardware button for camera. There also is a lockscreen that opens by touch, cant remember the name or where I saw it though. The plastic body is much better than pure glass like the iphone that can break a hell lot more easily than the SGS2.

In May I will have owned the S II for a year. My opinion (AFTER I bought the 2000mAh battery and started using superb roms/kernels):
• Awesome phone.
• Really have no complaints at all.
• Battery lasts me enough to get trough each day perfectly fine.
• It's fast
• Easy to hold and fits very good in your pocket
• good camera..
•Great screen, though resolution is not as awesome and future proof. Many phone's with HD res are coming out.
The only small problem is I'm starting to get bored a little bit. But as soon as the ICS madness starts (ROMs, kernels) it will be fun again
My main complaints:
1) I can't type as fast as I used in Nokia qwerty phones I have. Will I ever type as fast as I used to?!
2) Battery life...Uh will I ever get one day with full use?!
3) Notification of Message Delivery is the same as SMS and it confuses me. i wish I could change
4) GPS location sucks!!!
All the rest is simply incredible!

1. You will probably never type faster on a touch screen than on a physical keyboard. You can try different keyboards on the market though, and find out what works the best
2. True at that. But every smartphone has this problem..
3. Message delivery? I don't use that, why do you even want it?
4. Might be just me, but I think the GPS location is pretty damn accurate and fast.
My complains:
1. Market works kinda slow with the standard firmware (don't know why, but when I use CM or another mod, the market is like 3x faster).
2. Camera focus!!! worst thing on this phone. It's bugged. When you click to zoom, it will focus and then turn back blurry and show a red square.
3. Kies. Nothing more to say.
4. Couple things in Touch Wizz (app drawer, boring lock screen). It's just too out dated when ICS will be realeased with Touch Wizz, so I'll be forced to use a costum ROM to get the full experience of ICS...
I don't see the plastic phone as a bad thing. In fact, I love it. I laugh at people who accidentaly drop their iPhone and it breaks so quickly. I dropped it several times on a hard floor, nothing happened
+ it makes the phone very light and slim. love it.
I've had mine since June 2011, it replaced a Desire HD, which repaced a Desire..
I LOVE my SII, the batter life is a revelation after the Desire, and especially the Desire HD..
NEVER used a screen protector, only a £2 ebay case, and the screen is totally as new, even though I take it to work as a kitchen fitter every day...
Lanyard facility is a lifesaver for me, has prevented many a drop to the floor, and the only thing I've done FW wise, is to debrand and install stock 2.3.5, although I am REALLY itching to go foe ICS now...
Had the chance to have a play with a friends Sensation a few months back - God it was heavy... Also another friend has the new Nexus running ICS, but again, I prefer the feel and look of the SII..
Mike
Complaints:
1. Although battery life is still dependent upon your usage, still, 1650MAH is a big joke. It should be around 2200-2500MAH.
2. Camera really sucks with low light. The flash light makes it even worse.
3. Echo problem while I am on call. It is really annoying
Other than that, everything is fine. I only moved from SGS to SGS2 for faster lag free performance. I am happy I got what I wanted to have.
Rubbish sound quality

NO HD VIDEO, NO FIRMWARE TO FIX IT
camera useless at low light
pink spot
poor sound
several screen quality issues
yes, I am disappontied, it should be the best phone out there.
well i overall am truly pleased but for a few things..
i had gs2...spent 2 months with an iphone 4s and then returned to gs2...
things that truly are lacking on our device is mostly sound quality and battery life..and the iphone is in both respects, about 3 times better, or maybe more..
sq is pathetic and battery life is a heart attack race..but other than that, its all i ever wanted in a phone.
camera, pink spot shouldnt be there
white should be white, i like to take pictures to books really ruins it.
other than i wish it had xenon flash, i guess nokia really spoil me. too bad i am never touching a nokia phone again.

My HTC One review [Updated 21/3]

Sorry for the long post btw, but here is my review of the HTC One for those who are interested
Just going to add my review, I have had the phone since Friday afternoon and it is now Tuesday afternoon.
I am coming from a HTC Sensation which I’ve had since launch so it was being to feel old, battery get rubbish etc... I have had a HTC for the past 5 years, so yes I am a bit of a HTC fan boy, but I’ll try be as honest as possible. (I was quite willing to go to the s4 if they improved things but they didn’t)
Build quality and physical features:
Firstly like everyone has said, the build quality and feel of the phone is amazing! Better than the iPhone. It is light but it isn’t too light
If that makes sense, it heavy enough to make it feel premium. It looks gorgeous feels gorgeous and is gorgeous. I don’t find it slippery in my hand, however when it’s in your pocket because of its height and smooth back I do feel abit uneasy about it slipping out when you’re sitting down.
I think the size is perfect for me, but that’s personal preference. The volume buttons are nice, in the right place, feel good and easy to press. The
The micro usb is on the button , which is a plus for me to put into my android dock, but is much more to the right hand side, would of been nice for it to be more central but I’m being picky.
The power button is flush and smooth, and far to over the left hand device to me making it awkward if you have small hands (luckily I don’t) however I am totally used to it now so it doesn’t bother me anymore.
The button layout I actually love now I am used to it. Android phones only need 2 buttons, and long as you remember the double tap or hold down home shortcuts you will be fine. You get used to it way to quick, so much that I used my sensation the other day and kept pressing the wrong buttons on it.
Battery: (using auto brightness, power save off, WI fi on mostly.)
Ok so I wasn’t expecting much until I started reading the reviews of people saying it’s awesome. It isn’t awesome, it’s ok. Through a work day with light usage I get from 100% to about 80%, which is more than anyone else. Though saying that it seems most of my battery is trying to find mobile signal (I get crap signal for every network at work) so I’m trying to go aeroplane mode as no point searching for signal that isn’t there, I’ll keep you all updated on how this works out.
Then when I get home I whack out the games, do bit browsing, check Facebook, text all night etc… and it does drop quickly. Both nights I have gone from 80% to 0% in about 5/6 hours with heavy usage. Which tbf isn’t bad, but it’s not great.
Point to add, I’m still messing about with settings and apps, and I do find myself just turning my phone on to play with it , so I’m expecting the battery life to improve when I stop being a little kid . I have also drained it fully and fully charged it 4 times.
For example useage today, my brightness is at lowest it will go, wifi off, radio on, its been on for about 6 hours, about 30 mins screen on, and i have been playing music for about 10 minutes on full volume, my battery is at 79%.
Sense 5:
Very very nice, big improvement over 4 I feel. Nice and clean, simple to use and lots of nice little features, as well as some annoying ones.
I like the icons, I love the message app, it allows you to change theme of how the texts set out, so for example texts sent by you show up one colour, by the other person another, and then a different background. It’s just the little things like that that make a difference. Settings are similar to 4 so nothing to go on about there.
Blink feed is handy, but more a gimmick I feel, they need to greatly improve the sources because all I see at the minute is my Facebook newsfeed which annoys me slightly. But it has potential.
I like when you unlock the screen it goes to where you were last. And the lock screen is very nice and simple. It does annoy me how the preview texts come up though, at the bottom but only 2 lines of it, not like sense 4 when you got the bubble in the middle.
The thing that annoys me is with no menu button you can’t quickly change your wallpaper or go into settings etc... You have to drag down the notification bar and go to settings. When in an app and pressing home button, you go back to the app draw and not the home screen, that annoys me, but is useful every 1/10 times you press it! I would have also liked a quick settings bar but I have an app to do that anyway.
These are all little niggle bits which most of you won’t mind about, and can be resolved with rooting/little software tweaks by htc.
Screen:
Nothing more to say than amazing. Best screen I have seen on a smartphone hand down, viewing angles, colours etc... all brilliant. And the right size
Camera:
I haven’t had a massive play with the camera but what I have I have been impressed. There is virtually no shutter lag which is brilliant (big thing coming from sensation) you press the button it takes a picture, and keep pressing it, it keeps taking pictures. The quality in low light is amazing; you can just see on the screen how much light it is picking up.
The video quality is great and that extra microphone does make a difference to sound quality, there is a lack of bass however but it is crystal clear. Can also take pics while videoing which is handy?
The amount of options to edit your photo is ridiculous; I think I will need a year with the phone to work out all of them! Unsure whether this is a good thing or bad, after all if it’s there but not used, what’s the point? But it is nice you have the option.
Boom sound:
This is the one feature that is literally drawing dropping; the sound that comes out of this phone is amazing. Out of the people I’ve shown they have all been amazed and said wow that is so loud and clear for a phone. The need for those little crappy portable speakers is gone, it still can’t replace a good dock but it comes close.
This is also makes a huge difference when playing games and apps etc... the sound quality and loudness makes it just that much more enjoyable!
Although please note, you will never miss an alarm again! They do need to lower the volume a bit to compensate for the loudness, as stupid as that sounds.
Other:
The processor is amazing and lag free. However it does heat up, not as much as my sensation does when put under heavy load, but it’s noticeable. Plus side is it will make a lovely hand warmer in those cold months, downside I’m guessing the heat with affect battery life.
HTC ONE Vs. Sony Xperia Z
Luckily my brother decided to buy the sony xz the day before I got my one, and I got the chance to compare the phones (sorry no pics or videos didn’t have the time)
I have to say the htc one was better, in my opinion in most ways, it felt better, looked better, nicer screen, better viewing angles, better camera (only tested at a restaurant in low light though).
The only thing I prefer about the sony was the fact the power button was on the side, which made it very easy to press.
Closing thoughts:
The HTC One is no doubt the best phone on the market at the minute in my opinion. It has pretty much everything you want from a phone. It can be improved, of course it can, but HTC are onto a winner here. Everybody who has seen/heard it has said wow that is a nice phone, how much is that etc… Obviously we can’t compare it fully to the s4 yet, which will be its biggest rival, but I think the 2 phones will have different audiences. The question is, will this phone withstand the test of time with key lime pie looking to be released and maybe a nexus 5, we will see!
Please leave your opinions/comments, but note this is my personal view but I welcome a healthy debate on the subject! I hope this helps those who are looking at buying this phone.
UPDATE 21/3
Ok some now ive had the phone nearly a week i have some things to add.
Firstly anybody worrying about the notification LED, dont , it is bar far brightest i have had on any phone (including htc sensation and desire) it might be smaller but it is noticeable, when charging it obviously isnt on full brightness, but when you get a notification its easily see able.
2ndly the battery: I was having play and found i was get some wakelock issues from google maps and fb. I turned off google now and have seen a massive improvement in battery life.
Currently today im on 65% , phone has been on for 13 hours, about hour of screen on time. about 30 mins of playing real racing, tiny bit of checking wi fi etc.. Before i would on about 30% . Therefore my opinion has greatly improved over the battery. Can last me 2 days if i really want it too.
On a side note, i am getting my phone exchanged at end of march due to gap (see the thread on gap issue if you want more info) but i am truely happy with this phone now the battery has improved, and im getting used to doing things slightly different way.
Re: My HTC One review
Nice review. Thx
Ur review about the battery is more reliable to me than those who States 6hours sceen on. 6hours for me is only possible if u just leave the phone on desk with screen on untouched lol.
One question. Can you make a call to someone using speaker and see if the other side Can hear u well?
Also any scratches yet? Is it ez to get scratched?
Thanks

Yer i am questioning some of the people who are saying battery is so good, i have always been light on my battery and it is not lasting
as long as my htc sensation. Im trying different things with it atm to see if i can make it last longer, but i mean it still lasts a full day, just about though.
I have been on the phone to a few people and they say the speaker phone is good, not amazing or the best they have heard, but good.
While not on speaker phone people have said its really clear and very little background noise.
No scratches at all yet, ive had no case on it or anything but not a thing, its looks as good as it did on the first day.
The back doesn't smudge at all, and the screen just wipes clear on your shirt.
I hope you have some sunshine to try the screen under direct sunlight
How do you feel the weight of the phone in hand compared to Sensation?
GPS lock is faster too?

We had some the other morning , not alot mind you and i didnt have any problems with viewing the screen, only half brightness, but it wasnt particularly sunny!
GPS lock is much faster than sensation, used to take about 30 seconds on sensation, takes about 5/10 on the one.
Weight wise its feels lighter than the sensation, i have to say as silly as it sounds i think htc have got the weight spot on.
Light enough to hold in and watch film etc.. not too light to feel cheap.
Fair review, nice to read a 'real users' thoughts on the battery, I can only see good things coming for this handset.
I honestly think it'll do the the SGS4 what the SGS3 did to the HTC One X, steal all of it's limelight!

I don't know if this is a subliminal message towards my post but whatever. At the end of today it will be two days with the phone. I am noticing that battery life is decent. Not as great as I was hoping it to be, however yesterday I did use the phone really heavily as I had a day off. Unplugged at 100% battery 11am and it was at like 3% come 9pm. That's pretty good but I was hoping it would last at least another hour or two hours. I did have to put it on power saver mode at 20% so that's a thing to note. As I get used to the phone and it goes through a couple of charges I think I will really be able to tell properly but for now, that is all.

Thanks for the interessting Review !:good:
Thanks for the review. It's always better to hear from the end user instead of web reviews alone. Gives a more balanced opinion. One quest if possible. Any chance you could record loud music maybe from hi Fi or music channel or club to see how sensitive the mic is. You don't have to upload to YouTube. Or if anyone else could test. My One X and Sensation were really poor even though HTC boasted about stereo mic
Once again thanks.

Ive recorded sound coming from my bose sound system and it is very good. Better than any smartphone i have heard, it does restrict the bass abit , but you get clear audio so the sacrifice is worth it.
Im updating original as well since i have a few to add about the battery.

nope, sometimes you have to press the back or home button twice but i think down to just missing the exact spot.
But not having the problems some others have described

The predictive text input is fecking horrendous........only thing I found wrong with the phone....
I think the back and home button issue is down to the small footprint of the actual buttons, i reckon people expect to just be able to hit around the area of the button for it to work when in fact it needs to be more precise.
Good or bad?......up to the user, i think good.

So you're returning it for the gap issue?
This worries me. When I had a Desire HD, the speaker blew. I had to give my phone to Telus so they could send it to HTC to have it repaired. They sent it back and it wasn't fixed at all, so back it went. I had to use an HTC Hero for a month.
When I had my iPhone, I just walked into the apple store and they gave me a new one.
I'm worried I am waiting all this time and I'll get a gapped phone, or what have you.

I thought I saw in a review that the keyboard was way better than any previous HTC phone. It wasn't bad at all on my HTC Desire HD. How bad could it be now?!

I cant comment on the keyboard as i just installed swift key as i used it on my own phone and cant go wrong with it.
Yup getting it exchanged, but tbf most people seem to have a gap, so im hoping just because its the first batch, and things will improve.
But yer im not worried about the gap now, but to me it what can happen in 6 months time, with use etc.. it will probably expand and
cause problems, so best to get it sorted now.
I did send a pic to htc and they told me to get it exchanged.

I have the g2, any question?

Feel free to ask.

assuming you've owned other similarly sized flagship phones, does the tiny bezel and increased screen size make a dramatic difference?
What's the very first on screen button to the left of home, back, and menu? And is it possible to toggle off some of the settings in the pulldown to remove some of the clutter? Also, what carrier is that one pictured on?
The speed is fast. I have been using Note 2, and it is definitely much faster. However, I found my note 2 substantially slower than my Galaxy s3.
The slim bezel make the phone much much easier to handle than my old Galaxy s3. I really like the feel.
The phone is really plasticky. So if you don't like plastic, this is not for you. But I like it light.
The left foremost icon is the Q menu, and it allows you to do a quick memo, either using the current screen shot or a blank memo notepad. I find this to be useful. Yes, it can be toggle off and you can choose different menu buttons (3 or 4 and different sequence). But you can't choose the multi-task button. Too bad.
I don't know if I like the button on the back... Especially if you have one of those flip cover. Once it is flipped, then how do you press the button. I think this is dumb. I will ditch the flip cover. Alternatively, you can double tap the center of the screen (when off) to turn on. I don't find this reliable. This can be fixed by firmware, I hope... This can be really useful.

Could you take some low light photos? Preferably use some other phone if you got to compare with.
Does it Lag?????. Have you noticed it throttling?, how hot does it go?, what's the battery like?. What's gaming like?....
It doesn't lag . but I never had much with my gs3. I had lag with note2. Definitely faster than gs3.
Battery is really average. I have only 30% left after 10 hours. I used to be able to run 18-20 hours with my gs3 (exynos) . Maybe a lot of background sync since it is new. I will be able to tell after a few more days. The us version has a 15% bigger battery.
I am out on the street now. Will do some photos later.

I have been surfing with Firefox for 15 mins and found the phone to be pretty warm. I also don't find it super smooth. It is smooth but not super.
Lost 10% battery as well on 4g/LTE.
I think there is a bit of optimization needed.

As promised, here are 2 photos. One for HTC One S (as this suppose to be a good low light performer for last year and same as HTC One X) and the other one from LG G2. Originals are attached as photos.rar. The LG G2 is miles better. I basically have a dark room lit with the back light of my monitor.
I use the auto settings. So, didn't mess around anything.
you said it takes memo, how do you write? with your finger only??
also, any1 know the US version battery size? i've read conflicting reports on this.
thanks! --- art.

Very nice its like the best from Galaxy S4 and HTC One.
Did you get the quadbeat headphones with the lg g2? Do they sound good?
Looks like you are not using Stock launcher, correct ? Is the Status bar transparent with 3rd party wallpapers ? With the stock launcher in the menu can you do "Pinch to see the overview" like in the home screen. Galaxy S3&4 have this feature.
Most importantly please provide your review on GPS and wifi performance. Are you happy with the multitasking performance, seamlessness ?
Overall you think this is on par with Samsung Galaxy's ? I mean the quality and being able to deliver what was promised. Not just have features on the paper.
You mentioned "Knock Knock" feature is laggy sometimes. It's a bummer for me. I was counting on that feature. I really need that. I heard you can on/off the screen by "Knock Knock".
Hi,
I am wondoring whether it sounds so good as promised?
What do you make of the back buttons?
Wondering how cases will work out for them...

You make a hole for them just like any other button, check the accessory section and there is a few cases being made for launch.
On another note, when using another launcher, does the KnockOn work to turn the screen off? Or does it have to be stock launcher?

Do you mean the Pixel 4 XL? But it's said that Google will launch its Pixel 4 series in October later this year.
here are my impressions of the phone - i only have it two days so opinion might change.
Pros
Camera fantastic as always - posted some samples in the other thread
Build quality feels like a premium device. love the way it feels - i still use the fabric case though
Display is amazing, smooth, colors vibrant, had no issues in the direct sunlight.
Very fast, it's the first phone where i didn't change animations to .5 - i kept it in default
its charging pretty fast
Speakers are definitely loud but the device doesn't vibrate like P3 used to
Assistant is for sure smarter and faster
Cons
its heavy and hard to handle at times - please note i use the fabric case so it added some weight to it
Motion sense to me is more of a gimmick and so far i found a bug, for example i am at the gym and i want to skip the song, it actually just replays the current song, hopefully this is an isolated issue
Battery life not so great i get around 6-7 hours of SOT but fb and instagram were draining my battery - i restricted them now
Notifications preview. So they are not present at least with the face unlock on. what i mean by it is this - the phone is next to me and i receive an email or a message. which means i can't double tap in order to see it, i have to pick up the device, unlock it then decide to act on it. I would prefer a double tap and being able to see a message, but that's just me.

I thought there was an option, using soli. If you brought your hand over the device, it would light the screen up and then when you took your hand away it would turn back off. Kind of like Ambient on demand

Great review. Mine just showed up today but I refuse to use it until the case gets here tomorrow. I actually love the weight. It feels like a quality piece of equipment. So far the only thing I've done with it is dropped it on my wireless charger to top off the battery. I haven't even turned it on yet, but I'm a bit concerned. It's been on my dock for about 5 hours and has only gone from 64% to 94%. I know they don't fast charge unless its a Pixel stand, but holy crap.

After finally getting it set up and a couple hours a play on it. I tossed it back on my cheap wireless charger and it said 45 minutes from 82% to full. I guess it charges faster when it's on than it does when it's off.
I must say.... This phone looks much better in person & the back feel is awesome. My very 1st thought was how the camera module looks smaller then anticipated in regards to the phone size and it's way nicer in person... time to set this thing up!!!

here are my impressions of the phone - i only have it two days so opinion might change.
Motion sense to me is more of a gimmick and so far i found a bug, for example i am at the gym and i want to skip the song, it actually just replays the current song, hopefully this is an isolated issue

I thought something was wrong with it too. It looks like they did it backwards... Swiping my hand to the right skips back to the beginning, twice to a prior song. Swipe to the left skips to the next song. No idea why they would have done that. We should definitely send feedback on it.
Also, I do agree it's pretty gimmicky, however, I still think it's kind of cool. I haven't figured out the notifications piece, but if it works like they say, it will be great considering the face unlock thing you mentioned. That annoys me too.
I wonder what all applications for this Google had in mind when they made this? It'd be cool to know what they have in store for it. Putting all that stuff in the forehead just for swiping songs and whatever seems pretty lame to me.

It's because it mimicks swiping on the phone. It's as if you're swiping an album cover on the right (next track) over to the screen to play. That's how I see it at least. No different than how you scroll down by swiping up. Isn't there a setting to flip the gestures though?

I checked and there is! I definitely missed that in settings. Thanks!
One thing is for sure. This phone is getting a lot of hate from the reviews.. I really don't understand why.
Yes it doesn't have a wide angle camera (I'll post a pic bellow). For me it's wide enough.
Battery life is not stellar but it's manageable. I just top it off in a middle of the day and it's good to go

Yeah those reviews are dumb. But they get paid to be critical. Every phone has it's flaw. I could care less for a wide angle lens. That's the only thing someone can complain about because aside from that this is top notch.
Love mine. This charger works pretty fast and it's cheap. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RRV24J7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
