Give it some time its a new device, calibrate your battery. And watch what you have running in the backround.

You have to let the battery settle in. I got mine yesterday. I charged it overnight and was at 70% after 3 hours. I charged it back full while I napped and it's starting to discharge a little slower.

and with it being your new toy you probably haven't stopped toying with it

currently at 37% @ 12hrs 16mins. with 21% voicecalls, and using a live wallpaper, wifi generally on 80% of the day. Wiped battery stats after I charged to 100% this morning, so it should get even better.

try fully charging the battery and allowing the charge to run out on its own. Ive done this with pretty much every smartphone

Yes, I have been playing with it a lot but I guess I was just expecting more from a 2100 mah battery. I will give it a few more full cycles. I have 60 apps installed so I dont know if that is a lot or not? I am enjoying my new toy.

Since someone brought up OG Epic, took me about a month to finally sell the phone on eBay.
As far as the S3, 12hrs of moderate use and only down to 61%. So far battery has been great.

This was off my second charge cycle

On my second cycle right now. 91% after 7 hours!

What brightness settings are you using? AMOLED uses quite a bit on full brightness with white background. Even auto brightness in full sun is probably using a bit. Try turning it down. I'm looking forward to customizations for auto brightness.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA

I am using automatic. This is really a bummer.

I can say one thing. This phone is setup for speed. The stock settings are : max cpu = 1512 MHz / min cpu = 1458 MHz. Ondemand governor and cfq scheduler.
I just lowered minimum down to 486 to see how the battery likes it.
____________
Just Flash It !!!

For people who are having issues or think they are, you are probably right where you should be. When people post they are getting 20 hours with moderate use blah blah blah, unless you see there on-screen time and some of there settings the time means nothing.
I do not have an S3 but I have an LTE GNEX with an 2100 extended battery. On 4G most of the day my onscreen time will be anywhere from 2 - 2 1/2 hours. If on wifi I can do better of course as it uses less juice.
The amount of time that I can go without plugging in depends on how much I turn the phone on, not how many hours I can go totally. I can go 20 hours or more if I were only to turn the screen on for an hour or so.
My point is there is a lot to take into consideration and not just people posting they get 3 days of battery on moderate usage.
For true battery comparisons and for some reason no one ever thinks they need to post this info, you need to show on screen time, backlight auto or what they have it set to, any battery mods like turning off data when the device is off, underclocking, wifi or 3g ect. You get my point......Also, when LTE kicks in battery life will probably get worse when using it.
Based on the specs of the device compared to the GNEX, I would think 3 hours of onscreen time is not that bad. Get near 4 or I would say you are probably golden, especially if not on wifi...GSM phones will always get better battery are their radio uses much less power. The GSM version of the GNEX w/ stock battery gets them about 4-5 hours of on screen time nd that is about 1650mah.

Whacky battery life theory...

OKAY. As many of you know, I used to be pissed about my battery life until I hit the gold mine with one of raven's 800 kernels. Even after trying 10 of them, only recently did one of them hit the spot for my phone. As most know, the higher the battery temperature, traditionally - the higher the battery drain. I noticed that most of the YouTube videos where people are showing off their N1s didn't have cases on their phones. Now, I regularly use two different cases: A seidio snap and one of the gel-like hard/flexible cases. Recently, I have been using the gel one. I also have a friend that I work with whose phone on the same setup and same kernel gets half the battery life that I do and she is using the snap right now. This morning, I flashed Raven's new 800 kernel AND switched my case to the Snap. If you saw my posts, I got roughly 35 hours of light-moderate use and still had 19% left a few days ago on his 800 from 5/04. After upgrading the kernel, my battery was better than stock, but not great (losing about 3%/hour). I just took off the Snap case and am flying naked right now and think I've already seen an increase in battery life. Obviously, it is too soon to tell. That being said, I'm a computer guy, not a physics guy and I don't know the thermodynamics of the material. I can say that the Seidio Snap has a felt lining and is plastic which I think traps more heat. You guys may tell me I'm nuts but I'm posting a poll to see. Now, I know everything is going to be a little subjective, especially the word "moderate"; however, I think most people contributing in the kernel threads have a solid understanding of the general consensus of the word. Sorry if the poll didn't include every option but I'm just curious.

I considerate moderate use around 30 minutes total web browsing, 10-30 texts, <1 hr of phone usage and a few e-mails. Even the iPhone can go longer than that (and I hate the iPhone). Also, coming from someone now on 800AVS kernels that can finally get over a day, 10 hours is not very good.
I found the difference between nekkid and a rubber/felt case to be neglegable if any.
Conversely I found some apps to be bad about it when it comes to waking the phone for refreshing data or keeping the system awake (or more awake) even after the display is off. My biggest battery gains were in curtailing a few apps. ymmv, best of luck.
10 Hour moderate use is ok.
But i get double that...
Recently testing the GSM Auto (PRL) mod and it seems to boost my phone considerably.
Unhooked it yesterday at 8.00 PM went for my night shift.
At work i have used it for 20 min. Music and 20-25 min of surfing and nothing else. The rest of the time it has been on standby.

Honestly, I don't think kernel has anything to do with your battery life. At least not much.
I constantly PUSH 2 email accounts (never turn it off), I always have WiFi, BT, 3G and GPS on. I never turn them off. My brightness is at least at 75%, sometimes at 100%.
I constantly check up on Pocket Empires (game) for about 2-3 minutes every 1-2 hours.. do about 10 min calls.. check engadget, browse xda through an app a little..
And I get 10 hours. If I set brightness/sync like you, I'd probably get that battery life too. I got Cyan 5.x (latest), Amon recovery, stock kernel, stock radio.
I'm happy with my batt life, I can always swap to another battery that's always charged on the dock.. but I use the phone to its fullest and never have to wait for gps/mail/wifi.

Sorry, I cannot do screenshot 'cos my phone is not rooted and complete stock everything, but as I posted in some other battery related thread my phone hold to 2 days 12 hours and 30 min with 3% left over Columbus day weekend.
BTW, TWS was over 50%
battery meter is in blue minimalist theme and not photo shopped i have posted other screen shots with 45 hours and so on. stud muffler if you cant go download shoot me to provide screen shots i dont believe you are getting that battery life especially because the sprint apps use the most juice and the galaxy rom is way more conservative scaling on the cpu. also no one else on stock is making the same claim as you are with that usage dont make claims you are not able to back up with proof this is android not apple. everything can be verified very easily. you do not need root for shoot me. if im not at my house where i have wifi my battery gets drained really fast on 3g with no data usage kinda sucks.
I see that the Display is at 11%. What kind of usage is this? The math says that is about 4.5 hours of being "on". I can see with the right setup those sorts of numbers being attainable. The difference being actually using the device a lot would kill more battery. What exactly is your usage pattern?
Edit: Whoops I didn't read all the way. Wifi is a big plus for battery life. I'm tempted to try out the Galaxy rom now.

so whats the point of this thread? I can do this too at my house, just hook up to wifi and the battery lasts forever, its the 3g that drains it as you said.
That's pretty amazing...I'm wondering what the 1 battery is? Car battery perhaps? LOL
I think the most I ever got with light/almost no use was around 19 hours with about 10-13% remaining battery. That's just a guess though...I wasn't trying to test the battery...just didn't talk to anyone for a day or use the phone for anything in general.

If you seldom use the phone for anything, the proportion of power used by the screen goes down, and so does total battery drain. Then you can brag that you got 60 + hours.

He still had about 4.5 hours of screen on time which is pretty damn good if you ask me. In my daily use I get around 13 hours of battery with a screen on time of about 2 hours, if I'm reading a book using kindle I get 9 or 10 hours with about 3 hours of screen on time.....so he has a higher screen on time than me and still gets like 2x more battery than me (I've seen his other screenshots) on average
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I dont see where you got 4.5 hours of the screen being on
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i also don't know where people are getting 4.5 hours of screen on time from the screenshot. It's not 11% of the total battery time on. It's 11% of the batteries overall use. It doesn't really have anything to do with the total time unplugged. Some fuzzy math going on heh.
I was at 42% battery when I just plugged in my phone tonight so it's charged up for work tomorrow.
It's not that hard to get these kind of numbers with light use.
@styckx:
How come yours saya "Unplugged for" instead of "Since unplugged"? Not saying its fake or anything, just never seen that before lol
Sent from my Epic 4G using XDA app.
Because in the SS it's charging and changes to "unplugged for". It saves the amount of time it was last unplugged for. If I unplugged it then it will say "Since unplugged" and reset the timer.
Yeah, not shopped, I'm not looking to score e-cred over cell phone screenshots.
I use my device so much my display & voice calls generally wear down battery in 6 hrs tops. used to be 10-12 but since di18 it sucks .. might be both updates idk. I'm anticipating some good reads to learn up on flashing & such so maybe ill be able 2 get better life. my browser speeds suck
Looks like a Day or Two of Airplane mode,
Im rooted and tweaked and get about 20 good hours of use-able time
I never understand y ppl brag about standby battery life. not saying op is showing stats based on that but to me its a pointless test when ppl do it that way.
Not impressed.

This is about the exact same results I get. I had about 30% left yesterday after two days and 4-5 hrs of usage.
I pushed about 36 hours before the device shut itself off. Medium to Heavy use (lots of browsing, some games, all around tinkering and playing in numerous apps), and a decent amount of that was standby.
Over-all, I'm very impressed with it and it has completely replaced my laptop (sold it before I got the Xoom, actually). I was actually having a hardtime leaving it off the charger because of how used to I am having to plug my devices in after a few hours of heavy use.
I did a real world test for my xoom this weekend. I used it as i "normally" would. when I wanted to do things, I just did - browse, played games, etc. I used it saturday night to show pictures of a new house to lots of people. Basically, how I would use it if I wasn't specifically testing battery life. Long story short, i went all weekend without charging. Charged fully at 4pm Friday. plugged in Sunday at 11pm with 20% or so still left.
with all due respect that's not accurate. A more accurate usage of batt life is 'display usage'

9 is a little too much i'd say. It really depends on what app you use and how much power the cpu takes out of the battery. For example, simple web browsing and apps aint gonna run on 2 cores. Gaming on the other will though. And real life usage is really what matters.

hey there
basically, last night i:
1)wiped battery stats
2)discharged till phone shuts off
3)turned phone on again so it turns off again

I'm wondering the same thing... the Desire Z only comes with a 1300mAh battery... My previous phone had a more powerfull battery (2100mAh) and that was an older model WM6 smartphone (which was rubbish on power savings) and it would outlast the desire Z... It should take a few more charges etc to settle down, so things should theoretically improve.
I pulled the plug off charge 6.5 hours ago.
I have it set to use wifi when at home, and 3g for the phone connection (I have a 3G femtocell at home).
When I leave my home area, it switches off 3g and wifi and drops to 2g.
I have made a couple of 2 minute calls, checked my emails and twitter, and was out of the house for say 1.5 hours earlier.
I have had a couple of texts to which i replied.
I am on 95% charge now, and pretty pleased with that.

When I first got my Desire Z when it first came out I was pretty disappointed in the battery life. I tried programs like juice defender and minimized every possible battery sucking option I could find. I could maybe get 12 hours of use out of it so I bought a 1800mAh MuganPower battery which gave me maybe 15 hours instead. Pretty poor I thought but what more could I do?
A couple of months ago I finally did a factory reset after encountering a lot of frustrating little bugs, some of which had been around since the phone was new. Since then not only has my phone worked a lot better and faster, but battery life is MUCH improved. My phone now consistently lasts 24 - 30 hours with the same usage or more than I was using it before. So obviously buggy software can make a huge impact on battery life and it's not something you are going to be able to easily discern as to what program(s) are causing the problem.
Hmmm im not sure then..

Okay, played a bit of speedx 3D, heavy texting and facebook/gochat, still on 31%. I will see how it fairs tomorrow, and post a picture.

Your battery life so far?

I would agree with 4-6 hours with constant use such as reading or twitter browsing. I previously had a Nook Color with CM7 on it and got about the same. Standby is amazing I almost never turn it off.
After about an hour of surfing or playing a game I lose about 20% so about 5 hours. But when watching videos I get around 7 or 8 hours

Hmmm. I was hoping that rooting/SetCPU/screen settings could get me closer to 8 hours of life, but that's not the case. I'll probably just sell the Iconia since the battery life is my main reason for owning a tablet, and in this case it isn't that much better than my laptop.

not trying to be an ass, but what are you guys using your tabs for? i run taboonay rom with thor kernel and good to very good battery life. I use my tablet all day long at work for e-mails, pdf viewing, gaming when i shouldn't be, and playing around on the internet. I wake up at 5 am everyday unplug my tab and start the day. With said usage i can go from 6ish AM till almost midnight and still have 20-30 something percent battery left. I wouldn't say i use it hard core, but i put it work. Just charge it while your asleep and it should last all day. Now on the occasion i watch movies on it it does drain the battery like a bastard but i can still get 5-7 hours of non stop movie watching on it. I really can't complain about the iconias battery at all. If you expect this thing to run like Carl Louis all day long without plugging it in you're in lala land. Theres alot of threads on how to get rid of cell usage drain, and look at whats killing your battery it may be an app or something you did settings wise to drain it faster.

Completely agree, I got mine on Saturday and apart from the initial charge it's only been plugged in twice. Used on and off throughout the day on Sunday, most of Monday evening, all Tuesday evening and all Wednesday evening, playing games and on the web with a bit of youtube and playing around. First time charged at 35% on Monday evening, second time yesterday at about 11pm as it was down to 10%. I think that's pretty damn good myself. It's on OTA 3.1 and Rooted
As for comparing to netbooks, have a look at the size of the battery in a Netbook compared to the Iconia. Of course they're going to last similar amounts of time - The Iconia has a smaller battery but has less to power versus the netbooks larger battery with more devices to power.
I'm at 67% after about 27 hours with about 2 hours of actual use. I guess that's ok. I flashed the Minimalist rom on Tuesday so I probably haven't given the battery enough time to break in. Sorry for being a *****, I'm just impatient >.<
I was kind of afraid if it would last me through a day of classes when college starts back, but I think I'll be ok.
I was getting around 5 days total with 1 to 2 hours display usage before the update to 3.1. Now it only goes 2 days when on standby with less than an hour of usage. Going to download SetCPU and try that. I have not changed anything (widgets) since before the update, so I have no idea what's eating up the battery.
Does anyone use there tablet in this post?Lol
I use my tab all-day long and I usually have 20% by the end of the day.

I use my tablet about 4 hours a day
I have to charge every 2 days
I charge during 2H30 arround.
Mine has been doing pretty well lately. I guess flashing roms took its toll

setcpu settings?
I'm using SetCPU as well, but getting no where near what you say. I left it on sleep last night and it drained 15% - same as before.
But, maybe I'm not using it right. I enabled the "screen off" profile and dropped the speed.
What are you doing/setting to get that standby time?

set cpu app helped me get amazing stand by times. i mean i lose 1% every 24 hours propably.
during normal use, i get average 4-6 hours. surfing youtube, downloading, playing games. usually 5 is about right. People who say they get 8-10 hours heavy use are on one.

Ok, I activated a couple more profiles including "time", temp, low battery. Low battery definitely turned on and I saw the change in the icon on the bottom right. I think the "screen off" is not turning on - basically can't see it when the screen is really off . But, it's definitely draining the same amount of battery.
Am I doing something wrong?

SetCPU didn't help mine either. Tried a few different profiles. I thought the one that would help the most is Screen Off, I set it max and min to 216mhz. No difference in battery drain overnight.
