[Q] S3 us version Power horse? - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

So I'm wondering a few things. I have a galaxy nexus, vzw version and am patiently waiting for s3 on verizon. Here is my question before I go out and spend 600 bucks I want to know how does the s3 do with all live wallpapers because most on galaxy nexus vzw version lag some very badly. Also would like to know how smooth pinch to Zoom and scrolling are while on a flash enabled heavy website. Love the browser on nexus except when flash websites heavy or small are enabled. Not smooth like s2. Thanks everyone.

Anyone

Everything seems quite smooth (coming from an older phone especially, I had the Atrix, the Captivate and the Hero...) with a live wallpaper on. I can't really see any difference between it on and off.
As for a heavy, flash laden website... I don't really know one.

it may take more than an hour for someone to respond to your post.... no need to bump.
Yes, this thing is a MONSTER

Ha lol ya I suppose. Anyways that's great new galaxy nexus really disappoints on that front.

Flash is almost as transparent as being on a desktop computer. I just launched a full "thick-client" flash based web app and it is as fast as a real web browser. This is the most seamless flash experience I've seen on a phone.

Got mine yesterday, and three friends at work with Nexus' were comparing it to their phones today. GS3 was NOTICEABLY faster and smoother (and thinner and lighter). I've had a few hiccups here and there, but very few. No issues I've seen with live wallpapers either. Hope that helps...

Yup that's awesome to hear

[Q] The Tab and the future

Hey
First of i would like to say that i have been reading on xda since the old winmo days where i rooted and customized my phones. Now it is my time to write my first post here, which i have close to doing many times, im from Denmark by the way.
Not long ago i sold my beloved Htc hd2, which i had running Android, and i bought the Nokia N8 due since i am heavy on the music and photos. My plan was to get a 7 inch tablet with android for the rest of my needs, which the N8 could not for fill, and even though i had read some places that the tab was slower than one would expect i got myself a used one ( like new) for about half the retail prize.
Now i must say that i am really bugged out about this Tab, it is super slick, the screen and the form factor is nice, the internals are great ( much the same as the new google developer phone, that should be good?) but still this thing runs poorly on froyo 2.2. Really i dont see people saying this is acceptable, since i really dont think it is, i dont mean to flame, since i love android and phones in generel, but even my Htc hd2 had smoother performance than the tab, i find that hard to be true.
It is not slow in generel use, its proberly about what a galaxy s with stock would be, but in things such as the web browser, which should be essensial for a tablet, the galaxy tab really sucks, it is so bad that my nokia n8 with opera mobile nearly handles the web better, and thats really saying something! I tryed about all browsers in the android markedplace and ofcourse one can find a much better one than the stock ( of course you have to turn flash off, even through i think it is a shame)
I ended up using Opera Mobile since it is by far the fastest, it seems to me through that its not running the native res of the tab, could i be right?, is it true that some apps will show fullscreen without being the full res of the tab? i looked allover the web for days trying to get a grip of things without luck, really hope to get some answers
Now what would love to learn some more about would be the future prospects of the Galaxy tab, Is it in the hands of many developers?, will we see custom roms? (since i am not much for stock and touchwizz). Can we expect the Tab to be get much faster, should it not have the same or similar performances as the Nexus S or Galaxy S?
A final thing that i was wondering was about the res of the tabs screen. Is that whats coursing the troubles, the lagg? is that what makes it slow someplaces and makes the webbrowser work like a windows mobile 6.5 stock browser (or worse )
The reason why i am thinking that now is that i just read on Engadget that the Galaxy tab 2 will have Tegra 2 and that it seems very likely that Tegra 2 will be the processor in allot of gingerbread android tablet. Is the hummingbird to slow to handle higher resolution screens? (I really, REALLY hope that is not the case)
Maybe someone with a Archos 101 could prove me wrong (or another android tablet with higher res)???
Well thats it for me, really hope to get some answers since i know this is the best place to ask this sort of questions!
i'm on JM6 and somehow i still dont get what people say about silkky or buttery smooth >.<
mine is kinda laggy (still), and the stock browser gets laggy too when get scrolled up or down, i'm going back to miren browser
i do love putting widget though in my screen, but when i see homescreen post, some of them got a lot of widget too
wonder what's wrong with mine
already using launcher pro, better in term of scrolling than touchwiz with lots of pages (App Drawer)
but scrolling screen still gives me lag
quoting everybody else, after tegra 2 maybe there will be a tegra 3 or whatsoever so if you wait and wait, you'll wait for the rest of your life
i'm jumping on the wagon here, and i'm pretty satisfied actually, but since this is my 1st android phone, i have nothing to compare
gingerbread is definitely come to us , so i dont really care if the requirements need tegra 2
if my tab can handle it, so rock on, if it cant, then just wait for another device capable of gingerbread and sell this one
but since nexus S is using the same 1ghz and using gingerbread also, i dont think tegra 2 is necessary for it
maybe for honeycomb, we'll never know
keep crossing ur finger ^^
Thanks for your quick response. I hope your right with the requirements since it really makes sense that the nexus s would be apple to opgrade.
To me miren Browser is very laggy i really want to use it just don't run smoothly. Thinking about trying flashing one of the roms out there maybe I should wait for a official.
It's not the processor, it's the OS! and Gingerbread aint gonna fix it because it aint designed for tablets. Honeycombe is 'supposed' to be designed for use with tablets so you'll have to wait until 3Q 2011.
I don't know why people are surprised when they realise this as 'sticky', 'laggy', 'freezing' were words all mentioned in every review i've ever read about the tab.
Unless of course you only read Samsungs own review which would be slightly bias.

I once had a Toshiba Folio 100 with a Tegra 2 processor (for 5 days ) and it was just as fast/slow as the Tab. Don't know if Gingerbread is going to make the nvidea processor perform a lot better. As far as I know it is a driver thing.
Except for the browser, I think the Tab is fast enough for me.
This performance thing is relative. For example simon2901 you said htc hd2 has better android performance. I have both tab and hd2 now, nearly tried every android build for hd2 but cant find anything that has the performance that makes me feel really usable. But you think the opposite and this shows how relative this thing can be.
I flashed my tab to jm6 as Justin^Tan and i am agree with him. People say it is silky or very smooth but i all can say is it is smoother then my stock rom. Another proof of how this can be relative.
And i agree with appleflap except browser tab is enough for me too. Browser is enough in most cases for me too but when i browse a fully loaded page with flash it really is a pain.
As from the Gingerbread i only expect is make power drain of some apps more reasonable.
It's the OS... I come from an OS for which bloggers like to make fun (WM 6.5.5), however the custom ROMs for my TP2 were in the end quite fast. And I feel like I had more functionalities
This has nothing to do with Samsung's hardware. The Hummingbird is actually as (more) powerful as what you find in the iPad (And we have more memory with our Tab)
If I were you I would not expect too much from Gingerbread. Doesn't look like much more than a minor upgrade with a few tweaks. Quite different from the move from 2.1 to 2.2 let's put our hope sin Honeycombs...
It's kind of normal, it's a young OS and to be honest it's impressive to see the work that has been accomplished since the first versions of android. Given its quick growth we can hope to see more and more good apps and hopefully improved support for custom ROMs. That said teh Tab doesnt seem so popular among modders and chefs (maybe because of the price ? Or just because Clockwork seems more difficult to develop ?) so I ma not sure we can hope that much for the future for us
Gingerbread actually does have some performance improvements imho. Running it on my nexus one and the screen transitions have improved over Froyo (dare I say - as silky smooth as on the ipad? ). So I would expect the Tab to feel a bit slicker too once it gets some Gingerbread love. Personally, I'm not finding the Tab to be sluggish at all. Running Launcher Pro, JM6 firmware, Miren browser, a few widgets, tons of apps, no live wallpaper, and it's all very smooth.
Jm 6 is that a custom rom or just a minor update, how does it compare to stock, since mine certainly not smooth with miren. I laggs so much only opera is useable

JM6 is a Euro firmware that's been posted in the dev section here. I'm not sure it improves performance compared to stock, but then I flashed this pretty much the same day as I got the Tab so can't really compare . I believe it has some performance improvements with the stock browser, but I prefer Miren anyway. I really don't see any lagging with Miren, or at least none that I can't attribute to poor wifi connections etc. It's certainly way slicker than the stock browser. The pinch to zoom font rendering on stock is appalling whereas on Miren it preserves quality. Not tried Opera on the Tab though I hear it's fast...
Have you tried using a different launcher than stock Touchwiz? Launcher Pro or ADW should both give you improvements in performance.
That so many people's first experiences with it are probably as a demo unit, I can see why they say it doesn't feel as smooth as an iPad.
Aye, you can swap launchers and tweak settings.
But most stores have them running loaded up with widgets, running some livewallpaper, and touchwiz. It IS jerky. Or rather, not as smooth as the iPad.
Ok, so the job still gets done, and as a techy myself, I'm happy with what's doable, but that perception amongst most users is that it's not as smooth as it could be seems to be an obvious win if they can sort it out.
Even on the Tab, bringing the Notifiction bar down; sure it's fast enough, but it doesn't animate as it scrolls down (though if it did, personally I'd want an option to turn that off so it insta dropped!).
That all the hardware coming out now has pretty decent openGL support now, I can see that'll be the main thing in future UI improvements, moving more of it to hardware acceleration. I get a feeling that it's all being done in software.
It can only get better from here. A bit of polish on the first thing most users will see will be hugely beneficial later.
I find almost all of the above judgements entirely false. The OS workd perfectlyt for me without any lag or any kind of lag fixes. Im on JK5.
All it takes is a few shrewd decisions on the software that you use with the OS. My browser doesnt lag - I use the Fennec nighly builds which are silky smooth with opengl rendering and without.
I have removed bloatware and services that clog up the purity of googles stock 2.2.
I do use a task manager to kill certain services on a selewctive basis.
I get 2 days light use out of it, which is just fine!
And there is never any lag anywhere.
Now i must say that i am really bugged out about this Tab, it is super slick, the screen and the form factor is nice, the internals are great ( much the same as the new google developer phone, that should be good?) but still this thing runs poorly on froyo 2.2. This is acceptable.
There, I said it. I find it to be perfectly smooth, not sure why you're having a problem with it.
Use DolphinHD as the browser as it offers far more functionality than the default, and use ADW or LauncherPro as the homescreen as they both offer more functionality and better performance than the default.
As mentioned, gingerbread will offer a performance increase, but it's unlikely to be significant. It's entirely possible that Samsung will never port Honeycomb to the tab as they'll want to use it as a selling point for the Galaxy Tab 2 when it eventually comes out (and who knows when that'll be), the future is most likely going to come from custom ROMs if you want to improve the device as it stands.
I always purchase hardware with what CAN be done with it in mind, not what MIGHT be done to it in the future. Hoping for upgrades is a waste of energy, if you don't like the hardware in its initial state, or a state that you can transform it to straight away (rooting it, flashing already available ROMs etc) then don't purchase it, simple as that.

Well, by the time the Galaxy Tab 2 comes out, I would think Samsung would stop officially selling the Galaxy Tab 1 so it wouldn't matter if the Tab1 had Honeycomb or not. Its' not like it would be cutting into Galaxy Tab 2 sales.
well im glad some have good experiences with the web and smoothness of the device, i think i forgot to say that i am currenty on stock rom as i bought it, i read that there is some good performance improvements in the leaked firmware updates, still i would wait rooting, doing all that stuff untill things settle down a bit, it all seems confusing to me atm ( maybe it just is more complicated compared to winmo, htc hd2).
Well reading about the newer firmware out there got me in a better mood, knowing that samsung knows that things are not right yet is very comforting, i mean, i would assume all tabs sold in Denmark have the same firmware as mine, and that means bad performance compared to even the galaxy s, that is not acceptable, not at all.
Saying that this is a phone os and so on and therefore things dont run as expected. is neither acceptable since it should not run worse on a bigger device, i mean android do not discriminate? I am not looking for Ipad performance, since i got one in the household, and i still prefer using the tab, even though browsing is better on Safari (Flash dont work properly atm, rather just use the new youtubeclient, which i enjoy except the quality should be higher( proberly will be in time)
It is great to read your comments, gotta love xda
even if they stop selling galaxy tab 1, if they did release honeycomb into tab 1, people would hold onto their tab 1 if there's no significant upgrade on hardware
but if they dare only giving honeycomb onto tab 2, some people would definitely jump onto tab 2 for sure
It is never ending search for perfection that does not exist.
Something will come tomorrow with better CPU/GPU/screen.....
My experience is good enough. I turned of animation - major cause of lags, left one widget. Everything works just fine for my taste.
Hmm well is that fine Having to turn of animations and not use widgets? i just hope we will see custom roms with newer versions. What firmware v. are you using?
I'm really thinking about trying newer builds

I still don't get the "lag"that everyone is noticing.I'm using dolphin HD and it's perfectly smooth for me. I did root and lagfix, not sure if that is the difference.

Kind of slow

Has anyone noticed that the Galaxy Note is not as fast as it should be? I compared it to a Galaxy S II and the SII was just buttery smooth in terms of speed compared to the Note. The more I played around with the SII the more I noticed the speed and smoothness difference, and it confused me because the Note has a faster processor so it leaves me wondering why the Note is slower.
EDIT: I don't know if anyone else has noticed but there seems to be a very slight lag between input and the phone responding, for nearly everything. From swiping/scrolling to opening up apps, there just seems to be a bit of lag. The SII does not have this, that I can see. Everything is almost instant on it, as soon as you give input to the SII it responds.
Also, for those of you who are lucky enough to have upgraded to 2.3.6, is there a noticeable difference in terms of general speed and smoothness?
Exactly.........
Same i observed as well with d demo piece kept in the shop.
Note is bit lagging than the galaxy s2.
Please answer the question. Did firmware update 2.3.6 improved performance?
Can ICS update make it as smooth as s2 or nexus?
Thanks in advance.
I dont know wat u guys are talking about.. My notes smooth.. And i had owned a s2 before..
And relax, its the initial days of the note... More updates will come. And ics is only gonna make it better
Sorry but I have to disagree. I would say my Note is buttery smooth, insanely quick & responsive...
I've never owned the previous Galaxy S2 but have tried it in the shop and it's no way any quicker, infact it was choppy at times...
I take it it depends what apps you are running since certain apps are buggy and cause problems such as the device being sluggish at times?
My note has never lagged or been slow. I'm running the stock launcher. I tried others but did not like them.
List of installed apps:
Flash Player
File Manager
Viz Battery
Wallpaper Wizardrii
Smart Keyboard
Beautiful Widgets
Angry Birds (all three)
Yahoo Messenger
Msn Messenger
Skype
Barcode Scanner
MixZing
MX Video Player
Adobe Reader
Opera
Equalizer
I notice that the Android OS uses about double the display. Also when typing fast there is lag. I know about freezing apps, but ill just wait for custom ROMs.

i am so pleased to hear this.....
i have not yet bought it, yesterday for the first time i saw a demo piece.
Dont know why but i found it bit laggy. Maybe beacuse the expectations with which i went there.
anyways will need to see another demo piece b4 so that can buy without a doubt...
Bare in mind the note has ~3 times the resolution of the sgs2 and is only ~14% faster, presumably that accounts for the difference in experience some users have.

of course we know that.........
i just want to know is it really slow than S2? (whatever may be the reason)
I still got 2.3.5 I'm very picky about speed in my phone, one thing I have noticed is that whenever memory gets really full the device suffers, say for example you launch the default browser and it's choppy, just try this: launch the task manager and do a clear memory from the ram tab.relauncb the browser and compare the speed, lighting fast!
I belive that it somehow loses the hardware acceleration at one point, so next time you guys try one specially at a demo stand, just clear the ram and give it a go.
Input lag is something I haven't noticed, what's more typing using SwiftKey is truly an experience! Zero lag and lighting speed! So I wouldn't worry much about it I'm pretty sure it has more to do with the early stage of the firmware than the lack of hardware to do it.
I truly belive speed is not an issue on this device,it's by no means perfect but it's definitely an experience using this screen with this power under the hood
Also I totally agree about the underrated s-pen people still don't realise that this is not just a piece of plastic with a fine tip, the pen is not crappy one like the horrible stylus on windows mobile phones, this pen uses a magnetic technology developed by wacom, what this means is a mix between accuracy an speed of capacitive touch also let's not forget that it can detect and separate between a normal finger press and pen press it had the potential of doing mouse hovering, not yet implemented on gingerbread drivers, also it finally brings pressure sensitive to the artist so it truly can be used as a sketched on the go!
Download if you want to try the app
Multitouch visualizer 2, so you can see how accurate the pressure and the pen itself is!

The only reason S2 is faster is because it has a laughable super low res WVGA display. Low pixel counts = faster rendering time.
Hi,
Please check the attachment. It is the screenshot of my version on my galaxy note.
I bought my phone yesterday. I connected and and updated firmware using samsung kies software. Now the screen is lagging while scrolling. Please check and suggest something.
Thanks

I just updated to DTB PDA KK9 and it feels smoother. Launcher Pro is not stuttering as it was. Battery life infinitely better. Still 50% after a long 16hr day of quite heavy use as opposed to 15% after 8hrs.

Probably because it was a demo unit.
I'm running exact same setup on both SGS2 and the Note (Launcher Pro, Widget Locker, etc) and SGS2 definitely is noticeably smoother than the Note in UI operations

For Those Coming From A Galaxy S2...

So the Galaxy Nexus released in Canada today and I went to a local store to play with a live demo. Now am I just spoiled from using the I9100 (I imported one right when it was released), because although the Nexus felt generally smooth, my S2 feels so much faster in most aspects. I thoroughly played with it for 30 minutes and tested as many functions as I could.
This is disappointing because I felt Ice Cream and graphics acceleration would make this thing fly, even though the internals are inferior to the S2.
Now the reason I bring this up, is that from some perusing through these threads here, the Note is generally claimed to be slower than the S2 (as it has more pixels to push). I guess my S2 has spoiled me since anything else I use now feels sluggish, except of course for when I play with my buddy's iPhone 4S. So, my question to those coming from the S2 to a Note, how much slower is it and does it take a while to get used to it? Extra bonus points for those who have played with all three devices and can possibly rank them from fastest to slowest.
It just sucks that we don't have the Note in Canada so I can't really test the speed difference for myself
sgs2 has had tons of updates and development. Galaxy Note is a brand new device and have little development right now. It will speed up and with the great supercurio coming aboard we should see some new improvements. Give it a little tim e.
Even though I had a defective unit, it was just a fast as my sgs2. I really didnt experience any real lag until I tried go launcher.
Im coming from the sg1 to sg2 and now the note.
The sg2 blows the sgs out of the water and in my experiance is a fair bit smoother then the note. I use launcher pro and have a few widgets on screen, using the same widget setup as my gs2 its a bit slower.
But ive got more icons on screen on the note so it does test the sysyem a bit more, its noticably a little laggy in comparison. You have such a big hi res screen your bound to put more stuff on it.
Im sure if i set the screen for the same icon grid and made an exact comparison it would perform similar to the gs2.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
After updating to the XXKK9 firmware the Gnote is much faster compared to the S2, everything else is better on the Gnote.
Opening apps is much quicker then the s2 the only slight lag I get is flicking between home screens. Doesn't bother me, I prefer having more stuff accessible to sacrifice a little UI smoothness.
I have the same XXKK9 firmware which i got via an ota update the day i powered my phone up first time. Its still all stock only been a couple our days for me.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Thanks for the input, everyone. Just a little nervous to drop $700+ on a device only to have it underperform to my expectations. First thing I will do is load KK9 then. The Note seems like the perfect device since it's basically a beefed up S2 which is my fav device of all-time, with a huge screen (something I've been looking for) and a stylus (so I can keep my gloves on through these harsh Canadian winters). Very excited, going to order it now!
I still feel Note is slightly slow than S2 while page flicking and scrolling (huge list like 700 contacts). My region hasn't upgraded to 2.3.6 and maybe it will go away. The satisfaction you get from large screen outweighs that minor hiccup.
My Note is still on KK1 (Kies reports this is the latest firmware available for my version of the phone). I first set up my Note just like my S2, with a lot of Widgetsoid widgets. The extra screen space provided space for like 45 widgets. It was laggy. I ditched all but about 5-6 Widgetsoid widgets (the larger screen allows enough Touchwiz icons for my purposes), and I stopped experiencing any lag. Subjectively, though, the S2 somehow seems a bit more responsive, even overly responsive because the screen is set to a more sensitive setting. But when I look at it objectively, I think there's no difference in lag between my S2 and my Note, now that I have a sane home screen.
A couple of the widgets I had been using have just been updated used with launcher pro now my note is running as smooth a the gs2.
I think with newer firmware and a bit of time for apps to update so they run better on high resolution screens this thing will be awesome.
The hardware is there it just needs the software to back it up and not hold it back.

Best AT&T LTE Device?

Considering getting the Skyrocket on AT&T ... looking for experts opinions on the best Android device currently available or soon to be available for AT&T.
I had my choice of all of them, and the Skyrocket was by far the best.
The LG Nitro is an LG, plain and simple. Gorgeous but unresponsive screen, laggy, no dev support, gets blisteringly hot.
The Vivid's dev was stunted due to an originally locked bootloader (they couldnt even get root permanently), and in my opinion it has a really heavy, clunky frame.
The Skyrocket has some screen issues so make sure you get a good one, but it's the easy choice (to me). The Nokia Ace (WP7.5) is coming soon, as is the Sony Xperia super-phone. I'm looking to the Xperia in February, but if you don't want to wait that long...
Thanks going to go with the White Skyrocket and see what comes next.
Someone said that there was a way to get CM9 to work with the Skyrocket.
Wait a week and see what comes out of CES

Unresponsive screen? You're crazy, I have NEVER experienced whatever it is you call an unresponsive screen.
Lag? The "lag" on my nitro is so minimal I only notice it in extreme circumstances. Once we get hardware acceleration from ICS, I expect that to dissapear for the most part.
No dev support? The ball is rolling, my guess is that we are days away from CWM. We had perma-root on day 1.
Blistering hot? This phone gets no hotter than any other high-spec smartphone I've seen as of late, mine has never gotten too hot to handle. The hottest I've ever noticed is when playing Homerun Battle 3d while plugged in with setcpu set to always stay at full speed.
The biggest drawback is battery life. But it seems that all 720p phone(including the GN) are having this issue. With tweaks I get from 8am to 10pm EASILY with medium usage. I also carry a spare battery in my wallet.
The thing is, you don't see me or any other Nitro user bashing on other AT&T phones just to satisfy some urge to feel I am superior. Head on over to the Nitro HD forum and have a look.
Yeah no need to bash on other Android phones. Now bashing on Apple phones, well....
Ha, true that...
Sorry for the rant, I just reread that post and it does have some unnecessary 'tude. I will say that I really have no opinion or allegiance to LG, Samsung or whatever, a corp is a corp.
After all, it wasn't so long ago that people said about Samsung Android phones ", The Samsung is a Samsung, plain and simple."
I'm gonna edit out the first line.

OK, so... the complaints of unresponsive screens and lag that are all over the Nitro forums are what, exactly? If you go to a store and demo the phone, you experience it as well, and I'm NOT talking about the phones on the wall that are running the demo software. The same issues were there with the Thrill, though the Nitro improves on it a bit. As for getting hot, I've held a few while charging/in use, and it got HOT. Hotter than comfortable, and far hotter than other phones.
As for dev support: You've had root since day one, great. There's pretty much nothing else, after a month of release. It's not selling well in stores, and there are no major devs even giving this a try. At least when the Thrill came out, you had one of the CM team and gtg465x plugging away at some form of progress. Seems like this is going even slower than the Vivid, and that had a locked Bootloader hindering its progress.
I'm not sure why you're getting so upset, to be honest. It's a phone, with major flaws, made by a company RENOWNED for putting out phones with major flaws. It's also a company RENOWNED for nonexistant software updates, so I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for ICS. Just ask the Thrill people who were promised GB a month after release, and I'm pretty sure they're STILL waiting for the update. So yeah, still not sure why you're getting so upset.
Touchwiz sucks. Go for the vivid, sense is silky smooth with the increased RAM and has a lot more polish and features than touchwiz. Plus, the skyrocket has tons of screen issues.

Honestly, I dont like any of the current LTE selection ATM mainly because I hate Qualcomm Snapdragon CPUs on android (most underperforming of any dual core in real world use)
But the least crappy of the three would be the Skyrocket imo
My advice dont get any att phone specially lg you wont have any dev support and you wont get any updates att the worst provider ever

I'm actually waiting for the Sony Ion since I do not like any of At & t's offering for their LTE phones as of current moment.
i'll go for the Samsung NOTES LTE if i were crazy enough to use AT&T

If you want 720p, get the LG Nitro HD. Using a different launcher removes lag. I use SPB Shell 3D and I haven't really had any lag since I downloaded it. Only lag comes from zooming on the internet but it isn't horrible. It does get kind of hot, but I use a case, and it's not burning or anything. Just noticeable. The battery life starts out awful but strangely over a month or so ends up going all the way up to above average. I get 6AM to 11PM easy, with a good amount left over. The only problems are lack of dev support, temperature, messed up compass, and the stock launcher.
If you don't care about resolution I'd get the HTC Vivid, but the Skyrocket is fine too. Sense is great, the phone looks and feels better, and the resolution is higher.
The Galaxy Note comes out this week so you go just wait for that. Skyrocket is an awesome phone too though. Got to compare the too along with the Galaxy Nexus at CES this year and you really couldn't go wrong with either of the three. Although, I like the Galaxy Note the most because of it's size. Looks like you are holding a tablet up to your face when you are on the phone.

Well for half the price of the Skyrocket II, the Vivid still is a great competitor. It isn't as fast but like one of the guys said above me, Sense is silky smooth. It's pretty thin but still huge to carry around. Personally, since I have big hands this bodes well for me. The display is really clear and, no pun intended, vivid. The battery seems to last me through the day, and that is with quite a bit of browsing, texting, and using a somewhat bright setting. That's with the stock battery. I have had no problems with the touchscreen so for me this is a fantastic phone. Comes with Gingerbread 2.3.4
Speed: 8/10
Display: 10/10
Battery: 8/10
Durability: 9/10
Camera: 9/10
Overall: 9/10
Every time I ran speed test on Skyrocket and Vivid, side by side at local at&t stores here in Austin, the Vivid was significantly faster.

Purchase Opinion coming from ATT Note

Ok, so I have a Note and I like it especially with ICS which has improved it quite a bit. I don't really ever use the Stylus but thought I would my hand writing just sucks.
What I want out of a replacement for my Note would be:
1. Zero to no Lag so I can watch video's which is an issue for the note.
2. Better Development Support
3. Custom Kernel to undervolt to save battery.
4. Good battery life 8-12 hours with 3 hours of screen time.
5. FAST like smooth like an Iphone
6. And a Jellybean port from the development world.
7. Sllghtly small for one handed use.
One of my concerns is all the SGIII development forums. If I understand things (like I thought I did) THe ROM's should be the same across the GSM Hardware ATT/Tmobile and CDMA Sprint/Verizon. So in my limited knowledge the only issue is Kernels so I am hoping ROM's are universal based on processor and radio.
Any thoughts or opinions on making a move and what I understand of the development stuff would be appreciated.
Oh and I am a business user lots of Email and Text.
Anyone?
Oops.
I had the Note (int'l variant). You WILL miss the screen size of it after awhile (I do).
However, that being said...I <3 my SGSIII.
(TMOUS variant, not that it really matters)
Throwing bricks since 2008.....and proud of it.

Thank you
I had the Note and returned it in my 30 day period for an SGS3. I loved the idea of the Note and I did use the stylus a lot for work. Definetly miss the screen size more than anything!
What I don't miss is the slugishness I kept experiencing on both unofficial and official ice release, it would chug. After switching to the SGS3 its a night and day difference in speed. I don't know if its the additional ram or what but the s3 is a beast compared to the note.

I had a AT&T Note also, and the lag comes from the S3 processor. All skorpion devices experienced it, the S4 flies and I 1st noticed the butteryness on the One S. The GB of RAM is helping for sure as well. The only reason I got rid of my Note (straight traded for BNIB T-999) was because the value was dropping significantly since the GS3 dropped. Once the Note drops for T-Mo it will drop even more because it will be optimized for their network. That was my second reason for ditching the Note, the speeds were crap on Tmo compared to my T989 or One S.
The Note 2 will most likely be an oversized GS3, touting the 2gb of RAM and snappy S4 processor. By the time the Note 2 comes around my GS3 will have more value to it than my now gone AT&T Note. I do miss the brilliant screen and the sheer size of that device, but this GS3 is growing on me for sure
Lag - Coming from an Evo 3D with a 1.2Ghz processor (same on note?), I was very impressed with speed. The first thing I noticed after a bit of use was how smooth the UI was. I'm still having trouble getting over the smoothness.
Playing AVI's and MKV's with hardware acceleration gives 0 lag. Average of 25fps which is what the show I was watching was supposed to be played in.
Development support - The development support on this is crazy. Almost fully functional CM9 within 10 days of release and CM10 previews already. This is probably the phone with the most dev support other than the Galaxy Nexus.
Custom Undervolt Kernel - Not sure about this, sorry.
Battery Life - I'm very impressed with battery life. I pulled it off the charger at 6AM, had medium usage, and put it back on the charger at 11PM. I was at 13% battery with 5 hours of screen on time. This is with google sync, email checking, music, some videowatching, etc.
Smoothness - As I've stated before, the phone is extremely smooth in terms of UI but kind of laggy compared to iOS. This is not a phone problem but instead an OS problem - Android 4.1 has google's project butter so JB should be extremely smooth once we get it. Almost as smooth as iOS.
Jellybean - All US carriers except verizon already have CM10 which is Android 4.1 JB. It's extremely fast but not-so-stable. Once it goes into nightly instead of preview it should be a lot more stable.
Size - I also use the phone with one hand and only touch the screen with my thumb. So far I haven't had any issues reaching any areas of the screen or buttons and I have small hands. I feel that this phone was designed for using it with one hand.
Based on your expectations, I feel that this would probably be the perfect phone for you.
If you have any more questions, feel free to hit me up.
