Dedicated guide/how to section? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Mods, I propose that we have a new section in this (and I suppose in other forums too) especially dedicated for guides and how-to's. This way we can organize a one-stop-shop for all the great tutorials out there!

Generally important threads like how to are always found in stickies

I know, but recently, some of them, including my lengthy guide about AT&T functionality, have been bumped off. If they're all put in their own section, it makes it a lot easier to find than to go fishing through the masses.

There is an attempt to make a wiki, but plus some are in stickies

Last time I looked at the Wiki, it was more like a link farm to posts and threads. I was going to have a go my self, but it looks like that is what a contributor has to do (make a thread or post, put a link on the wiki). Its not very cohesive, hence my not making any input, couldn't see the point.

Lots of drilling required. Mods more interested in giving some guys a tap on the wrist rather than actually looking at why some folk make mistakes, or reflecting on some of the ridicules statements they sometimes make.

xda is not well organised? mods are inefficient?
Well, what you guys have done to make it better? Time spent on complaining, might have been better used on something constructive, even if it was guiding some lost soul through the maze of useless threads...
or starting a how-to thread, in the spirit of OP's suggestion

Sorry if I might have offended you in any way, frustration got over me for a while, somehow the Note forum becomes full of whining, complaining, gossip and panic instead of place for helping each other.
Yet, there are few who try and succeed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739492.

I wonder why this thread didn't turn into a flame war, I mean it was plain and simple flame bait.
Some guy asked about his screen earlier and was ambushed and massacred and everyone misses this one. Lol!
Funny things, forums....

I can see how some people think it's a mess.. I mean lets face it tons of people do not bother reading or searching, So I can see this being a problem for those types. I mean now they have to go though a WHOLE two forums to NOT search for what they want and NOT read.. lordy lordy the sky is falling!! what on earth are we going to do? You mean we have to be a tiny bit less lazy than we already are?? lol
I saw the change last night and it didnt take rocket science to see what happened. I was like "oh ok kernels, cm, miui in here, sammy cooked roms and mods there".
If anything it's more organized now, not a mess..
Ya its not exactly complicated to figure out, and ya, if anything it's more organised.
My only gripe is the app, still no original Android development tab.
That guy last night that posted about JB sources when there was another two posts below was typical of what's going on here, I even got a screenshot of it to post but once I went into the thread someone had already very kindly pointed out the OP that he should use search! :But ya, its ridiculous and no amount of posts or stickies or whatever seems to stop people doing it.

After looking at the OP profile,he posted this here and he meant to post in the US forums. Wow yeah he is going to have trouble in those forums, if he cant even post in the correct forum dont know how he is going to handle that multi-carrier forum hahahah. I thought he meant the forum split of Original dev and Android dev

From within the app, remove GS3 forum from your favourites and then re-add it, should then show all the sub sections including the new one correctly, but yeah would be nice if it did that by itself.

Repost?
Closed, as it seems the OP got the wrong forums.
Let me take a moment to remind everyone to REPORT problem/dupe/uneeded/unconstructive posts or threads, dont respond, report, and we (the mods) will get on it and sort it out.
We cant be everywhere, and if no one reports it, it normally wont be seen.
And leaving notes in threads for us, doesn't work, PM the section mods, or use the report system.
Thank you and happy XDAing.

I guess you can still call me a "noob".

Howdy,
I've only been here a few months, born out of the curiosity to learn about rooting Android devices, in particular my S2.
In that time, I've tried a number of ROM and Kernel combinations and found a one that suits my needs - thanks!
While I'm in no way and expert in programming or coding, I can understand for the most part the sequence of events and logic behind what I intend to achieve with my rooted device.
In that respect, this post is more a comment about the state of play rather than a question, as I don't believe I'm qualified to post from a technical perspective, so probably limits my ability to contribute in that manner.
I would hope that my next comment is not taken the wrong way, but in recent times I've become frustrated with the amount of negative threads and comments in the various forums. It makes it difficult to find the answers that you're looking for when you have to wade through pages of irrelevant posts - the same questions appear over and over again.
I also legitimately emphasise with the developers of all the respective ROMS, who, let's face put up with a lot of crap especially when they're providing something that is effectively for free.
Anyway, that's my 2 pesos for this year.
Thanks and Happy New Year!

It is what it is.
In order to post and reply more broadly in Forums needs to submit 10 posts and clearly I can't just post "emoticons" and "lols".
As I can't yet pose a question in an appropriate Forum I'm limited to making comments.
So, no, my original post doesn't have a particular point...
Cheers
If you just want to increase your post count you should try posting at some off-topic thread. General forums are cluttered enough as they are.

Loving this phone!

Hey guys, recently moved to this phone from the HOX+. As I've researched before, the only negative I can see is the burnt out pixel that is very very tiny in the left hand corner of my screen. It doesn't bother me. I had to go through 3 devices to finally get one that didn't bug me so much, but hey, what are you gonna do, right? I'm an assistant manager here at RadioShack in town and I've seen on the two I've sold that they both had the same problem. Oh well, I say it's still an awesome phone. I have no rooted or unlocked the phone because I feel there is no need yet. The stock ROM is already fantastic and battery power is amazing, too. Just wanted to post this and ask what kind of apps you all are running and get some suggestions on how to make this device EVEN better. Thanks!
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Welcome, had mine for a couple days. It is perfect. By far the best phone I have ever had. Even my iphone loving manager said that she is considering moving to this phone. She said it is beautiful. Re the apps, I think I saw a post in the themes section that had a list of the best apps. Give it a look.

This is a forum. A place for discussion. Why close a thread that's discussing things out?
People who always think they know everything and refer every thread he posts to "use the search button" & "google knows it" would kill xda itself due to reducing the pageviews/lesser income in ads.

I know right? I see one guy ask a simple question and 20 guys jump on his thread trying to explain (in very lengthy replies) how its a waste of bandwidth to ask the same questions over and over again and to learn to use the search button..
So we get a thread with 22 people , the OP, 20 idiots raging and 1 guy answering the OP's question.
Well anyways, I just simply wanted to ask about some cool stuff for the One. Seriously, amazing phone. So can anyone give me some tips or anything that works good with the phone? Anything in general? Instead of arguing with so called geniuses (when in all reality, it's just a phone) all day who wanna close the forum because it somehow doesn't meet their "standards". Thanks guys! Just really wanted to know more about the phone!

Why not have sticky posts inside a thread?

So i was wondering how to make people stop asking the same questions and reporting the same bugs again and again.
Why aren't there any sticky posts inside a thread so that people can directly refer to the solution rather than people asking again and again and the developers asking them again and again to use the search button?

Great idea but the problem is not the system but the people who use the system. Searching is not something most on xda want to do. Reading threads in a forum other than whats on the page in front of them is not what most want to do. I hear ya and like your idea but if we dont teach the people who try and take the easy route how to search its all for nothing
I get it but just because of those people why should everyone who are not like them should suffer. And it is a very basic thing to do... the implementation will hardly be difficult.

Why is it that people don't do some reading? There is plenty of information about this in the forum already. I wish they would ban people for not following the rules and at least minimally trying to find things out. Did you even read the rules before you signed up?
Scott - give it a rest.
All of your comments are the same..... "look it up"
This site is NOT the easiest to locate information on. Finding information here is references to references to pages that at 128 pages deep with a blurb to look at another thread.
"Yeah but thats my point, if people read and did not ask questions because the answers are already..."... well its a little too late unless XDA has some users with AUTHORING capabilities to clean up the forums.
To Rickala..... I dont believe a custom rom is available at this moment, but I would keep an eye on the development section of this forum. Get Titanium Backup and freeze all of the ATT stuff, the stock rom isnt that bad
Good luck buddy

Posting questions without searching
I am not siding with (or against) anyone here, but to be 100% fair, the search function here is seriously lacking at times.
Example: In the Accessories section, a few days ago I was looking at a page of threads including one whose title was "Spigen Slim Armor View."
When I searched, from that page, for the word "Spigen," it returned a nothing found result.
OK, it NOW works correctly, but for a while there it absolutely did not.
Of course on the other hand, how can you miss it when a half dozen threads on the page clearly reflect terms related to what your question is about?
The bottom line is, people are generally lazy and will post things like "I'm new here so don't flame me, but I don't have time to read through hundreds of posts to find the answer, so I will just ask you all a really basic question that has been asked dozens of times."

I've found a Google search with the site: parameter is a good alternative.
ie: "Spigen Slim Armor View site:forum.XDAdevelopers.com"
It doesn't help with bad Grammer, spelling, punctuation or attitude, but it does return better results than the native search.
Give it a go.

Scott -
Did you read the rules?
Lets analyze this:
Why is it that people don't do some reading? There is plenty of information about this in the forum already. I wish they would ban people for not following the rules and at least minimally trying to find things out. Did you even read the rules before you signed up?
1. Search before posting.
.... If the OP found this forum, he must have done some type of searching, no? I mean if no search was performed he would had asked same question in the Droid Bionic forum
2. Member conduct.
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result, what may be OK to say in your part of the world, may not be OK elsewhere. Please consider who is reading what you write and don't use profanity, sexually explicit language, rudeness or swearing. Conversely, while reading posts from other members, remember that the word you find offensive may not be offensive to the writer. Tolerance is a two-way street.
...I would think the majority of people would consider "I wish they would ban people for not following the rules and at least minimally trying to find things out" rude
10. Help others if you can.
If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do so. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably quite a few people with less experience than you, who could benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.
...I cannot spot 1 single item in your paragraph that even touches item #10
Rickala - let us know how your search turns out, good luck

Stop trolling. Your reply is useless and added nothing to the discussion (as have a couple of the others in this thread). It has already been widely reported that MK2 is root-able by both the V-root method and SuperSU survival modes. So there is no need for the OP to make screenshots.
Not trolling at actually. But isnt tje point of XDA to provide resources when making a statement root is available, steps one takes to get root so others can have it. Right? Vroot or Kingo was NOT declared illegal by XDA. Warnings were posted that it seems to collect information during the rooting process deemed unneeded for rooting so we do not allow direct links at this time. Use at your own risk and discussion is allowed.
Now as there is no more useful content being added to this thread other than bickering
