This is for after it releases. Post your rage/cons here
Maybe this will be a guide for tmo and/or Sammy for what not to do next time.
I hope we find no use for this thread but we shall see.

Hmm..didn't see that coming...joke

Since I don't plan to leave TMobile for AT&T, Verizon or Sprint it doesn't seem to me to matter whether or not the iPhone 5 is "better". I'll continue to use the best phone available on TMobile and at the moment that seems to me to be the Galaxy III

Lets settle down. Foxconn is simply in competition with Samsung and he was just taking a cheap shot. They're just trying to do anything to prevent people from buying this awesome phone because they know if people buy this today, that they won't be buying the iphone5 when it's released.

Locked bootloader. So no odin, which means no root, which means no titanium, etc. Royal pita.
(Update: might just be me. Others said they got odin working.)

I thought that Samsung was above locked bootloaders. I guess I may just need to wait for a different device.

I'm generally quite happy with it. Two things that they removed from previous Galaxy S phones that I wish they hadn't. First, the swiping back and forth on the taskbar to change brightness. I don't know why they got rid of this, since it was a great way to keep your brightness off auto but be able to quickly adjust it. Second, the keyboard is much worse than Swype, particular problems are how the comma and apostrophe are on the second page, also the way they included a page for smiley emoticons means you can't toggle back and forth between two pages of special characters, but have to hit it 3 times, given how little I use smileys this is wasted on me.

After six years at Sprint, I'm moving to Magenta. No more CDMA for me. After the WIMAX mess and abuse from retention, I'm ready.

They seem to have removed it on the galaxy s2 when the update came out. It might be an issue with ics and that's why it might not be here as well

Vibrant Custom Q's

It seems like the custom ROMs out right now are for the international version, right?
There should be ROMs coming for US-specific (IE, Vibrant), correct? I just don't want to get something I cannot customize. What scares me is that Samsung will update it to 2.2 and not release 3.0 later on?
Coming from the Touch Pro 2 scene where there are lots of variations as well, there should be roms that are compatible with multiple handsets and even some geared towards specific phones. Additional add-ons might be required for button layouts or something but I'm not sure how it works since I am speaking with experience only in the Windows Mobile area.
Regarding the update, it's really hard to tell since we don't even have the 2.2 update yet. But hopefully, they'll continue to support the Galaxy S as it's Samsung's direct iPhone competitor.
We should be able to flash any firmware for the galaxy s including the modaco rom. The real question is will we be able to get a hacked recovery to stick like amon_ra or cynogen ? Ps my phone comes this week im freaking excited!!

same going to be at the store 9 am to pick it up then head straight to xda for a root and a cfw that would be a dream
Hopefully the source code that was released by Samsung for the Galaxy S is the same for the Vibrant, which I see no reason why it would change but it is Samsung. If it is, I will help to port CM6 over to the Vibrant. The source code from Samsung that I downloaded yesterday has from what I could see with my quick glance over the drivers (baseband, sound, screen, etc) that would be needed to bake up a custom ROM.
That would be so awesome. I really don't care about samsung supporting this phone, as long as they let devs do their thing. Meaning not to lock up anything ala droid x

not nessecarily true lol, take a look at the Motorola Milestone for an example, they have had root for a long time now, but cant load a custom rom due to an encrypted bootloader.
That's why I'm saying that if samsung doesn't do it, let the community have what it needs to do it themselves, look at cyan. My g1 should've been obsolete a year ago, but on the contrary its as strong as it was when I first rooted it.

Samsung Continuum

Our cousin from a slightly different mother launchers in a matter of a week or so. It will be interesting to see what this launchers with (2.2, Bing, etc).
This could possibly fall in line with the supposed Galaxy S 2.2 roll out over the month. It will also be interesting to see how the secondary display instead of soft keys plays out.
http://i.engadget.com/2010/11/02/full-samsung-continuum-specs-leak-out-in-verizon-comparison-char/
This thing is kind of ridiculous. It seems to literally be the same device as the fascinate, but with an added 96x480 ticker. I could see how that would be useful, but the thing just looks silly. If that spec sheet is to be believed, it's launching with 2.1 which essentially guarantees bing as the integrated search engine.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I remember reading somewhere recently that the Continuum would only have a 3.4 inch screen, not 4 inches like ours. I'm sure that was done to make room for the smaller screen without making the phone too big to handle. I dunno about you, but I'd take the 4 inch screen over a smaller one with a ticker screen any day.

Definitely Agree'd!!
Samsung wanted to make sure to compete with itself, just in case anyone was thinking twice about buying an iPhone.
it has a smaller screen and still has 2.1 + bing, so i don't see the draw as the ticker, while a neat idea, duplicates the function of the notification bar, and seems pointless (to me at least)
plus in some of the early videos, it seemed like a fatter phone.
from what's known to be in the pipeline on verizon for the rest of the 2nd generation android phones, i don't see anything enticing.
The only phone that can tempt me away from this is a 4g LTE phone, hopefully it will come next year.

Idk, I moved from an htc desire running cyanogen 6.1 (froyo 2.2) to a samsung mesmerize running 2.1 and there are definitely things I miss about froyo. One of the biggest is chrome-to-phone but there are also many small ui improvements that I miss. The hardware on the Mesmerize/Fascinate more than makes the switch worth it though

This stuff really clutters up the development forum on XDA. Post this in general. This is why most of our devs are now releasing things on other websites FYI. [Q] All of us who are getting Verizon Note 3 at launch....

To insure our best chances of being able to root, what should we do? I've never rooted anything before so this will be my first time but I hear about alot of problems with Knox and what not. When I pick up my phone, should I not allow them to touch it or watch what they are doing so they can't install anything? What should I disable right when I get home? I'm a noob to this and I searched and didn't see anything,,atleast I don't think so.
They don't install anything on your phone at activation that will affect root capability... it's all in there already when the phone is loaded with verizon's version of touchwiz 4.3 ... don't worry about what you're doing with your phone as far as apps or whatever ... it won't hinder your ability to root if that becomes available to us... just chill and let the developers hack at this thing and see what they come up with... BUT ... don't hold your breath... our bootloader will be locked on verizon... that will make things impossible... dev's will gravitate towards the unlocked versions that are easier/possible to work on... and we will be left behind unless some weird exploit is stumbled upon... learn to love your stock device when you're on verizon... it's less stressfulness
I would not take any updates if they are pushed out immediately after launch.

Well, the note 3 just happens to have a chastity belt of a bootloader which is also guarded by bastard of a shot gun called knox.
Who's to say any tampering with the boot wont trigger knox and void us all to warranty hell.
I was looking forward to using an unlocked bootloader just to get the kernels ect, but I come from the Droid Bionic so im fairly use to using safestrap.
If I can get the bloat gone, deodexed, with a few cpu scripts ill be happy.

I had been so busy at work I didnt have time to research the note 3 very much. I just assumed it would be similar to the note 2 bootloader. This may be what causes me to leave vzw. Possible AT&T N3 Safestrap?

I thought that this video would give some hope to the AT&T N3 community. Looks like the Verizon N3 is going to get (or got) a program called Safestrap which is allowing them to install custom ROMs and other things on their version of the N3. This should be made applicable to the AT&T version soon. It may not be as flexible as a unlocked bootloader but does give some hope of being able to have the phone the way you like it.

Oh man let's hope for the best. This is all kind of new to me having these issues. Even my One X was a pain in the ass, but not THIS bad with unlocking.
Will safe strap include being able to flash a kernel? That's honestly the #1 reason for an unlocked bootloader for me. I love playing around with cpu and gpu parameters trying to achieve best battery to performance. Plus faux123 has his kernel and coming from it with a nexus 4 I wish I had it on this device.
Safe strap will not allow kernel flashing. Only ROMs. It high-jacks boot up and redirects the device to boot from a secondary partition you create on the internal memory. You will lose space on internal memory to use safestrap. Although the Verizon folks (me included) have been able to overwrite the factory partition to avoid space lose. If you want to flash kernels you need to drop the 700 dollars on development edition of the phone. I can't believe how dead the development thread is for this device I was just looking for some options for a friend of mine who just got his AT&T N3.
I got more jelly beans than jelly belly, on my S3, S4, and both my Notes
Guess I should have stuck with nexus. Oh well ill trade the ability to flash kernels and roms for a removable battery and an sd card and large screen.
I'm pretty sure the DEVS within these forums will eventually find a way to crack the system. It's just a matter of time and patience.

I don't think that's ever going to happen. This is sad but it looks like the Note 3 (At&t Version) will never have an unlocked bootloader. There is no way around it.
I will never buy another At&t phone again in my life. I will never buy a Samsung device again in my life.
I'm done with them both. I hope their happy. This is what they want.

Got to have patience man. It's only been 2 months since the phone launched. I understand it is taking a long time...but it will get done.

Will be a nice xmas gift to have an unlocked bootloader. 3 month mark should be a good gauge as to whether it will ever happen

They're still trying to unlock the dx. I had one. I did get used to just flashing roms, it's not that bad.
