You need to replace the Mms.apk of your ROM.
You need to copy the CM7 Mms.apk to /system/app and reboot your phone.
Use root explorer or another file explorer with root permissions to do that.

try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660405
it is pure black.

the problem is this thing:
"I have not tested on ICS but bug mentioned is that id does not find the Contact Names. I will build another version for ics, probably based on the latest Cyanogenmod Messaging for ICS."
and iam running the ICS 4.0.4 aurora
still i found this !

if someone would like to think the same way as me ... the themes are nice ...

[Q] Cyanogenmod live wallpaper .apk file

Hello there
Well maybe it's just because i'm still a noob on the android scene, but i've been going around for a while looking for the blue nexus style cm live wallpaper apk, but no luck.
I also tried to find it in the CM zip file but being a newbie i didn't know where to look so i probably missed it (can't find it under system/apps).
I wanted to install it on other roms, so i was wondering if some of you guys would be so kind to help me to find it, or simply upload it right here, so that i can install it or flash it.
Sorry for the dumb question, and thanks in advance
Its just the livewallpaper.apk from any CM6 nightly you youre after uninstall your current one with rootexplorer (if you have s-off) in system/app, or delete from too your rom before you wipe your phone and install it.

Thx for the tip, but i actually found another way right now: i just removed livewallpapers.apk from system/apps with root explorer, then i installed the livewallpapers.apk from CM and it worked...shame on me i couldn't figure that out before. Anyway, i also tried to replace the system livewallpapers.apk with the CM one (with root explorer), but that didn't work, can't figure out why lol.

Black GMail

Hey Guys,
I really like the option to turn the SMS MMS app into black in cyanogen so i replaced my oxygen app with the one from cyan7. But is there a way to get a black GMail app? Or did i just not find that option?
Thx a lot!!!

Would be nice if someone could make a 2.3 based black one. The text is black so you would have to edit the xml files to make the text white or light grey.
Ive tried this before on other apps, but unfortunately it is beyond me.

thx too, exactly what i wanted
I get a not installed error.
UPDATE: I tried uninstalling Gmail and installing mikep99's apk and it still failed. I did get the droidforums version to install.

On a slightly related note, I've installed the black Mms.apk from the C7 via adb but it keeps reverting to the regular one on reboots. Any ideas?
EDIT: I pushed via adb and set the permissions and it's all good.
Thanks for your work! Black GMail would be awesomesauce! However I've tried to install it and I get "not installed" error. I'm using Redux 1.0 ROM. I didn't uninstall original GMail app first because uninstall button isn't enabled and it can't be pressed. I'm sure this is what causes error, any idea how get rid of GMail?

Use ADB if you're not S-OFF to remove Gmail.apk from /system/app then push the black one I posted to /system/app.
Make sure the permissions are the same as the other apps in that location.
Boot into recovery, wipe dalvik cache and reboot.
If you're S-OFF you can do the above through root explorer or similar...
Should be ok.

Brilliant thanks for that. Its not quite black, but the text is white, so possibliy I can edit the grey to black if it is controlled by .png files. It is version 2.3 too, which is the latest version that works for me.

Hi,
can I use this apk on my Desire rooted and without any rom??
I run CM 7 RC (Honeybred theme) and as much dark as possible (although never only black). I try to get working as much as possible from the brilliant dark mods in here: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/blacked-out/
There's updated GMail apks available there too.

Yep and unlike 2.3.2, it actually works. I liked the 2.3 one I was using but would have preferred grey for unread email and black for read email not the other way around.
Thanks, this will help make Android more unified.

[Q] Replace Contacts .apk

hey guys i'm using wildfire powered by cyanogenmod rom.... it was working fine until i replaced with some other contact.apk...now my dailer is slow and is bugging me.... can anyone post me a link leading to contacts .apk for cyanogenmod 7 or the stable version of it... thanks...
Hi just unpack your CM7 zip you should find the exact contacts.apk you are looking for
It should be inside this folder
system\app

[APP] Gmail 4.0 ICS

Looks like the new ICE Gmail app will run on the A500.
Runs fine on mine with Lightspeed ROM .
To install you'll need to use a file manager such as Root Explorer.
Go to /system/app and rename gmail.apk to something else like gmail.apk1
Then copy the attached gmail.apk to that folder.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=754326&d=1319033154
That's it ! Any gmail widgets will vanish so you'll need to add new ones.
For more info on the new gmail app see this article :
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/10/22/getting-to-know-android-4-0-part-1-gmail-androids-most-important-app/
been using this for a while, but thanks for sharing.
Only bug I notice is the email address being cut off at the top, but not a big deal
Oh, and the widget works for me. Fully resizable too.
working!
big thanks here.

I followed the directions restarted and now all I get is a force close. It shows the new widget in screen editor but wont let me place on the homescreen or open the app itself, anyone have any advice?
Upgraded to JOYE EGO
Nevermind I had to actually install the APK working great now, liking the new look any news on the new calendar apk?
Upgraded to JOYE EGO
Does not work here on Thor's rom! I had to revert to the "old" Gmail and I lost my widget that shows the 4-5 last mails received.
Any1 can help?
it works on Thor's ROM, as that is what I'm using it with. When putting the apk in /system/app make sure to set the permissions rw-r--r-- (you can do this with ES File Explorer or Root Explorer) and also reboot afterwards or you may get FC's.
Thanks Bloodfame, it works now...any idea as how to to get a widget similar to the one we had before?

Glad it worked out for you. As far as the widget goes, honestly I have no idea what the old widget looked like (never use it) so I have nothing to go by. There is a nice widget included though. It's fully resizable and you can choose which label to display.
@NoUseToRush - I don't know if it will work but I attach the 3.1 gmail image which I extracted from the old APK.
@Bloodflame
thanks for the response. The only widget included, at least on my system, is the one that launches the email client included in Thors' rom...not the "modified" gmail we are now using.
Anyhow, I can live without it
@ metpolds
I have the icon. I was looking for the widget. Thanks
Nice! This app work only on a500? Or is compatible with many other device gingerbread?

Not sure why you don't have the widget, I received the new ICS widget along with the new Gmail app

did you restart your a500? that or do a force close on your launcher in the 'manage applications' under settings.
this happens a lot with some widgets. they wont show unless a reboot or launcher reboot

Are any of you guys/gals running this ICS Gmail on 3.1 or are you all on some variation of 3.2? I'm still running rooted vanilla 3.1 and when I try to install the APK it comes up with error "failed to parse application". (I did change the permissions!)
Sorry ppl further question - When you replaced Gmail.apk did you also replace the "odex" file or did you leave the original one there? Thks for your patience

1) I'm using 3.2 and it's working for me.
2) You don't install the APK - it's manually replaced in /system/app
3) My ROM (and most other custom ROM's) are deodexed, therefore there is no odex file. You may need a deodexed ROM for this to work, as I believe there might be an issue trying to use the old odex file. Unless you can track down the odex for this version.
@Bloodflame - Many thanks for your answers. Never having installed a custom rom I did not realise the point about "deodexed". However I've decided today to try my luck at installing "Kekinash's near stock" rom so when that's done I'll probably try the ICS Gmail again. Your comment about deodexed comes at an appropriate time because last night I opened up the rom and found for every apk there was an accompanying odex and now I understand the difference between an odexed and deodexed rom

You're welcome. Glad I could help
It might be worthwhile to educate yourself on the Android terminology if you intend to do a lot of modding, flashing custom ROM's, and the sorts. odex/deodex, zipalign, compcache, kernels, etc. Learning what each of these do and how they can affect the performance of your ROM's might help with a happier Android experience overall. Never be afraid to ask questions and don't attempt any kind of modding without a full undestanding of what you're doing. Just my food for thought

But im not sure, if 3G works on this rom, it didnt on FrozenPika10_v1.6.0
Any ideas how to fix it?
i works all days to fix that bug, i dont know if with rom i fix that bug because 3g always works for me
I dont understand, why peaople are ignoring this 3g problem with cm10, it shouldnt egzist at all.
link of download works
3rd party camera apps' and barcode scanners' preview does not work. It's the same as with all other CM10 roms.
This rom seems to me the draft of the pika,
you're not doing anything new and useful ....
if pika copy the rom from shendu i dont know, but this rom is based on shendu rom 4.1.2, pika's rom is based on ivan's rom, my rom is more stable than pika's one
Hi Mauro,
yesterday I tried this rom, but unluckily browser (I used stock and Dolphin) were closing unexpectly. For example they were able to show Facebook login page, but once logged in Facebook they simply closed themself, bringing me to launcher home.
It's strange that the behaviour was same on both browsers.
Could it be something related to memory managment?
Anyway great job,
Francesco
if you look at first post i write "if facebook not work delete this file from system/lib", then i post new rom with fb fix

Mauro,
you wrote "if facebook app not work delete this file from system/lib", for this I thought that issue was related to the facebook app, not to facebook website, And so I didn't try that fix.
But random browser closures (I repeat, not only the stock one, but also Dolphin) are present not only to facebook site, but also to other sites. For example I was trying to download another rom (pika10), and also in that site browsers were closing unexpectedly.
Have you no random browser closures?
Thanks,
FeW
it's the same with browser or app of facebook you try new rom
Hi Mauro,
I tried new rom version (without wiping data/factory when in recovery mode, just to avoid reinstallation of all apps...): it works very well!
Great job!

Hi Somcom3X,
thanks, tried it, but issue persists.
Root explorer, or Root browser lite can't access /system in rw, so to install custom ringtones/notifications I had to use adb shell...
Someone that installed this rom could confirm that root is enabled?
Thanks,
FeW
Hmm. Try rootchecker in the market.
