[Q] Is the Thrive dock connector the same as the Excite? - Thrive General

Wanted to see if the docking ports are the same or if they had been changed on the newer models...
If they are the same I wanted to try the Thrive multi-dock with my Excite 7.7 to hopefully be able to use the HDMI/USB ports on there...
Thanks!

In case you don't know this already, I just found out the hard way that the answer is "close, but no"

Thanks, already eBayed the Excite 7.7....
Toshiba did release a HDMI dock for the Excite 7.7 recently though...

Where did you post about this? I looked in your posts but could not find it. Seems they are the same connector, but would not surprise me if not. Thanks.
Update:
Found another poster elsewhere with the sad details. Toshiba made a great tablet with the E 7.7, but a SUCKY ecosystem. I guess since they priced themselves out of the market, it is what it is. Still like my 32GB none the less, but got it for $380.

It costs to much, limited accessories with even more limited supply and way to high priced, and locked it up so people who want to root or unlock or dev on it can't. The last is the deal breaker for me, otherwise it would have been one of my first devices to look at vs the n7 or samsungs.

Yes it is, but, always keep your options open and help others do the same, not to mention its best to compare before jumping into something and not have buyers remorse. This is noticeable on all forums including this one. No big deal..... We get some good feedback from those that have other tablets and nice to exchange ideas and have links to other offerings.
Was looking at the IPad some time ago, and decided that it was too proprietary to the Steve Jobs organization.
Than looked at the Xoom and Notion, but both had issues and still do not have what I really wanted besides a some what thin tablet and members suggested some other tablet coming out....
Looked hard at the Transformer and it to has issues at start up with the screen bleed and speakers, not to mention the screen is not up to par with the Galaxy.
Looking hard at the Galaxy now, but the lack of ports is a disapointment, but not a deal breaker.
Now the newest offering from Toshiba. Looks as if it has what I like in the full size ports, battery replacement, price, but the thickness of the tab is sad but it to is not a deal breaker.
Getting locked into something as these new tablets, I have noticed over and over again, the early adaptors are returning them for some thing else.
Well put OP.
I'm looking for a tablet after returning a Transformer, although I haven't quite discounted buying another one. I'm hanging on .... and on .... and on ..... for Samsung to get their act together and announce a UK price, definite spec and release date, but I have to say my patience is wearing very thin!
I've looked at the Xoom, good solid build but piss poor European support as far as I can tell. I don't really like the look of the Acer Iconia so I've passed on that one, the Toshiba is another contender but looking at the recent pics, I'm not as keen as I was earlier. Best to see it in the flesh I think.
That leaves me with the GT 10.1, the hype sounds good and it looks smart in the pics, a bit disappointed with the expected lack of slots and ports though. The other contender is the Asus Transformer (again), as long as I can get a decent unit. Once bitten twice shy though.
The important factor will be the price difference between the TF and the GT 10.1, it'll be a tough decision but at the end of the day whichever tablet I decide on, it's still a gadget/toy and I can only get away with spending so much as I'd like to remain married.

I decided to sell my TF to get another tablet

I have been thinking the past few days about this decision.
I love the TF so much and how fast it is especially after rooting it, and with the keyboard its another awesome device.
HOWEVER, I don't use that keyboard a lot. I use it only when I need the USB port. So, paid $150 for just USB port!!! a don't type a lot with my tablet. Even if I need to type a lot, I will use my desktop.
So, I am having a wide, and little bit think and heavy tablet with an extra keyboard that I don't use while I can have the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 with lighter and thinner + a small adapter for USB port whenever I need that. am I right?
I know that I will lose two things: 1. losing money by paying more 2. lose the capability to extend the capacity size by not having micro sd card slot.
BUT, I can reply to that 1. I will pay more for the thickness and weight 2. it doesn't really matter for me to expand the size more than 16gb. I never filled it up. I know its good option to have, but its ok with me.
This how it came to my mind the idea of selling the TF and getting the galaxy 10.1
any comments?!!
Another fascinating tale of personal preference!
Seriously, though. It's not a contest. If you're happy with your choice then that's all that matters. What do you care what a bunch of strangers on an Internet forum think?
Besides, you'll probably be back when the TF2 comes out anyway.
Good luck!
I decided to sell my Transformer also. I bought an Apple Newton. The viewing angles on the Transformer were just too hard to look past. I found myself using it less and less. Hopefully I will get way more use out of the newton.
If you don't care about sharing ideas, then don't. But don't make people who like sharing thinking like you by not sharing.
So the reason I am posting is to share ideas and see what others think.
Thanks for your advice anyway.

Is there something wrong with that, or is it me
I thought about buying a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet (the one with the keyboard).
But i've started using my keyboard less and less so i sold it, so i no longer see the point. You can get Galaxy Tab 10.1 on ebay for rediculous cheap prices, but what would be the point of selling one Honeycomb Tablet for another, especially one without an external micro sd, which i constantly swap with my phone, (a Sensation with a 32gb) can't imagine anyone buying a tablet with no external micro sd card
Why in the world would you want to sell your TF?
checkbox: not sure where you get the "ridiculous cheap prices" for the Galaxy Tab on eBay from. Last i checked, $400+ for a $400+ tablet isn't really that much of a bargain.

I don't have any problems with HC. I like it I want to still use it in my next tablet. Also, I don't care really about having SD card reader because I will have the connection adapter instead of the whole keyboard.

yeah, I know. that part sucks!! its not cheep to get it. Selling my transformer with the keyboard will get me only 16gb galaxy with out paying a penny out of my pocket. and if I want the 32gb I have to pay some more.
Definitely not worth it in my opinion.
If I were you I'd rather wait till TF2 comes out before making any decision. What's more if the dock you are having now is compatible to use with TF2? That saves you a lot of money without the dock already.
No point rushing, take your time and observe.
If you plan on using a stylus the ThinkPad tablet works great. Just got the ThinkPad tablet a few days ago and still testing out with the apps.

Viewing angles? Seriously? In my opinion the viewing angles are very good, and the screen itself is excellent. I can't imagine many other people sending the device back for that reason.

Well, if you are going to do it, now is the time. The NewEgg $60 Gift Card promotion on it ends today. You could then use the gift card to buy the adapter you are talking about and you might be able to break even sale of your TF and gear.
Good luck.
How are people not filling up their tablets? Do you guys consume no media away from home?
I travel a ton and i like to have some videos on there and the HD rips fill up the memory in no time. Even with the combined 16+32 I have to cycle through videos from time to time to keep the content fresh.

I swapped from 3.1 unrooted stock to Prime 1.5, and are now running Revolver 2.5.1 with Clemsyn Blade kernel. I dare to say I've noticed very noticable increase in general smoothness when scrolling homescreens and such from 3.1 stock. However, I don't know how stock unrooted 3.2 with latest updates run like. Initial thought after going custom ROMs was pretty much "wow, this is almost iPad-smooth". Just almost, tho. But hey... who couldn't render a list of icons insanely fast, anyways?

please help decide

So I bought a galaxy 10.1 and its formed an oil sluck. The retailer has no problem exchanging it but when researched I found this ia a known problem with the samsung. So rather exchange and risk it from happening again I'm looking into a teansformer. Can aomw of you help me decise what to do?
Well what are you looking for in a tablet, and does the transformer meet those needs?

Basic web surfing, movies, emails. Watching my netflix from tab to tv. Nothing super techy.
If you want a keyboard dock with 16 hours of battery life then get a transformer. If not and you dont want another Samsung then get an Acer.

But of course.. the TF is only $400 for the 16 gb model. If I only used the TF as a tablet (which I do when I'm not doing anything involving real work beyond reading pdf's, or in need of extra battery), I'd be happy with it. I can do the netflix, e-mails, and websurfing just fine. Of course, I've read that the HP Touchpad actually does the e-mails and web surfing a lot better, so you might as well get that one instead since it's so much cheaper.
IMO opinion the Transformer is the best all around Android tablet out there.
Good luck finding a Touchpad at this point, lol

Wow... that sucks, the 10.1 seems like such a nice device. I guess the lack of MicroSD and higher price aren't the only reason to get the transformer instead.

The Transformer isn't without it potential issues. My volume button broke on my first unit. Iwas able to return it with in 14 day and get a new one. I've heard of at least one guy who had his power button break.
I don't know if it a widespread problem or just a few lemons, but I'm very careful now. I try to avoid using the power or volume buttons as much as possible. I use the Audio Manager app to adjust the volume and when possible use the power plug to wake or start my device by pluging it in.
Still I'm really enjoying my Transformer.
Good luck!

I had to decide between the samsung tab and the tf too but since the injunction against samsung tab in germany i had to take the tf. I heard about the issue of the screen in Galaxy tab but probably i would have go with the galaxy tab if it was avail at the time. Im not regretting at all the buy of the tf. I got lucky and have the one few b70s which is/are rootable. Although the tf has is own issues such as screen bleeding and some build issues, which i have only a small spot of lightbleeding, i still love the tf. Would buy it again plus the dock adds so much more to this device

[Q] Iconia tab A510

Since there´s no dedicated section for the A510 (at least I can´t find any) I decided to ask my question here. Many apologies for this.
Does anybody knows if the A510 come with a Gorilla glass I or II or without?
Edit:
The Acer homepage as well as GSMarena didn´t have mention of what display type is on the A510

Well, considering nobody has one, and nobody has done a review on one, and Acer only showed a glimpse of one earlier at the CES convention, I would say....
Who knows....
I'm hoping for gorilla glass VI. After seeing them drop a 20kg from 50m on that tab. Wow! Man, the glass didn't have a scratch one!!!
.....tablet was flattened to a pancake though...
The tablet would be a good steal if it comes with a gorilla glass.
Chat with Acer
I decided to ask Acer directly because info on web is unclear. Here are the relevant parts of the chat:
Gayathri S: Hi, my name is Gayathri S. How may I help you?
Beth: I would like to know if the new A510 has Gorilla GLass like the A500 does?
(pause, wait, get coffee, wait for info to be looked up, voila!)
Gayathri S: Now a days all the models in Iconia Tablet has Gorilla Glass display.
Beth: Excellent news! It's unclear and some reviewers have speculated that it does not.
Beth: Any word on actual shipping dates?
Gayathri S: unfortunately, I am sure about the shipment dates. Once it confirmed you will get the information through online.
Beth: Ok, thank you for your assistance.
So, take it for what it is I'm hopefully my amazon pre-order will ship soon.

Zero issues following a review from a user in the Amazon store.
http://www.amazon.com/review/R1PGJ6...e=UTF8&ASIN=B007E8TWPU&nodeID=541966&store=pc
Well let me start off by saying I am quite pleased to be the first one to be able to rate this awesome tablet. I've owned the original Acer Iconia A500, the Asus Transformer, the Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy Tab and liked them all, but this, obviously is the next generation of tablets. First off, the price blows the (somewhat inferior) Transformer Prime out of the water. Insiders (as of 4-16-12) have told me that the Prime has been discontinued this month but news has not hit yet. They will be making this up by producing the T300 which will be a prime at less money the way it should have been from the beginning.
This tablet does everything it should with the amazing speed of quad core tegra3. The screen is crystal clear and the viewing angles are quite deep. There is plenty of memory with a cheap way to get 64gb out of this by getting a microsd card (32gb). The wi-fi is strong and the gps has zero issues with lock or signal. Sound is very nice in stereo and sounds expensive for such an inexpensive unit. All in all a great buy and you should not hesitate to buy this for its amazingly inexpensive price!
Update: The tablet, hooked up to a 56" lcd tv streaming hd movies works perfect with no issues.
I also had it hooked up to a wi-fi hotspot from my phone through Sprint to use google maps in the car and it works very well.
I already had a chance to drop it on the ground accidentally and it fell screen first onto pavement and not a scratch on it. I wish there were already cases and protectors for it but have to wait on those. Again, I wouldn't hesitate. That video review right below my review seems to be of a defective unit.

no issues at all.
i got a replacement one, because the first was defective (random reboot, freezings..)
but the new one works perfectly..
The wifi is good but my GPS doesn't work at all. I ran a speed test with the speed test.net app connected to a cable connected wifi router and it averaged 10 to 11mbs. Only had 3 out of 4 bars. The GPS issue kinda sux cause my a500 had a bad GPS unit in it to. I always have my phone but still. May send it back for repairs .. and I think they have already found a rooting method I'm just waiting to decide if I'm gonna send it back or not before I try it
No lucky
My a501 was quite good on gps, but the a510 is definitively better. I've got a capture even inside my house.
This tablet has been out for a while now, it would be much appreciated if the mod in forum can get a dedicated thread for the acer iconia tab a510.
Its not fun going through the Tab A500 thread for information and review of A510

Is Iconia 500 worth it?

I want to buy a Acer Iconia a500, I used one once that was bricked, I managed to fix it, there is even a guide I made of how to do it, however I didn't use the tablet when I fixed it, for that, I want to know how it performs and if it's good today.
Thanks for all.
That's a tough question to ask a year and almost 1/2 from the initial release. It is still a good device to own, BUT I personally would look at the alternatives in terms of purchasing it at this point.
There's no way I would go out and buy another Acer Iconia A500, is what I'm saying. There are several devices with more powerful processors and better screens out now that are selling for the same price as an Iconia A500 commercially. That being said, you'd have to be looking for something awfully specific to choose it over something "better" and the only thing that comes to mind that differentiates it from the others is a built in USB port.
I <3 the usb port. It's too bad the A510 and A700 don't have it. I agree with Neoprimal, though. If you want a tablet, I would look at something like the transformer infinity or if you feel like it, you could wait for the Nexus 10, but that might take a while...
Alright guys, then I will save money for better high-end tablet, but really I would like to wait little more till Windows 8 tablets go out, so I will test them and choose between Android or Windows 8 even though I cannot compare a full OS with Android but let's see...
My A500 is my work tablet. I use it for the databases I use on the job. I also use it to offload pictures from my camera between shoots. And, with the 64gb micro-sdxc card, I have a ton of movies, music, and TV shows stored. It's a solid, reliable, versatile tablet.
I also have a Nexus 7. The Tegra 3 system is fast and Jelly Bean is great... but it's more of a toy than a serious tablet.
The microsoft surface will be pretty interesting. Depending on the price tag, it has a lot of potential.

It comes down to price - I snagged my current 501 for one hundred dollars, so to me it was a great deal for even a year old tablet. I would say the a500 is probably good value at 250 US, but nothing more.

I was about to get one on eBay bricked exactly the way the one I fixed was for 80 USD, but then I ended buying something else :-/
cowboom has them for $200 used. I have one that i got from them almost 7 months ago and i love the damn thing. I love the fact that it has a full usb port so i can plug in my wireless mouse and keyboard. I love the fact the there is a flash for the main camera. And it looks pretty damn good.
There is also a good amount of development for it.

I also would look somewhere else. Personally I would go for the Nexus 7 at this point if I were in the market, precisely because its more of a toy. I used to use my tablet for work (the USB port and big screen are great and I've seriously dropped it a few times with minimal damage) however, now I've switched to using my phone for notes and todos and I have less need for these things. So I know what you mean about the A500 being good for work but I want a toy (development, screen size, nexus name)

About a year ago it was a great tablet, but there are so many more options out that are better for the price. Though the iconia is one of the very few with a usb 2.0 port, but the asus transformer family have it with the dock, the nexus 7 is a great fast tablet, but you could untill they made a 10 inch nexus

cowboom has them for $200 used. I have one that i got from them almost 7 months ago and i love the damn thing. I love the fact that it has a full usb port so i can plug in my wireless mouse and keyboard. I love the fact the there is a flash for the main camera. And it looks pretty damn good.
There is also a good amount of development for it.

I bought the Dock of My Atrix (Including Moto Keyboard, Mouse, Multimedia, 18W Charger, and more Etc...) so I can plug USB HDD and other things I like to use plus I can use the BT devices for futures devices I buy.
Also I will wait a little longer, I'm not going to buy a Nexus 7, since in 2013 I'm going to university (College) and I would not like to use a laptop but who knows if I change my opinion...
(Off-Topic) Today I looked at my Join Date and I knew that I already can sell and buy things in the Marketplace ^^

Indeed. The ipad is a different tablet altogether, particularly if you are looking for a reliable, curated ecosystem. On the other hand, the Android tablets are great fun to play around and customize to your hearts content, as long as you are willing to read blogs/sites, make backups, etc. Personally, it's a hobby so I enjoy it. However for my parents, it's an iPad no question.

So... you bumped a thread without a post in a month and a half to cheer for Apple? Why, exactly, did you join XDA? To troll?

About a year ago it was a great tablet, but there are so many more options out that are better for the price. I bought one today for $125. Pretty good tablet, but I wouldn't spend more than what I did for it. Probably gonna load it up with games and books and give it to my son.
I adored my a500 last summer when I first got it, but I noticed it gets a bit wonky after about a year of use. I use mine daily. Reading, games, email, surfing, etc. Luckily I was able to exchange for a new one and that froze on startup screen after a month. It was "gently used" . I am wondering if I have bad tablet luck or the tab just konks out after a period of time for whatever reason.
I now have another "gently used" one while they are trying to fix my old one that froze on startup screen.
It seems to be working well.
I am considering the Nexus 7. I love the camera in my a500 and ability for SD card and installing my USB keyboard.
Guess I gotta make the good ol' pro's and con's list huh?

I use both my A500 and my Nexus 7 daily. The Iconia, I've had about a year and a half, and it's been trouble-free. No idea why you seem to be having a string of problems with them. The Nexus 7 is a look at what the next-gen Android tablets will be. They literally make the iPad look silly.
I bought a password locked A500 for $155 on Ebay. If you find something for that price go for it. A ten inch name brand tablet is a great steal for that price. Plus the development community is great, with Jellybean in the works. Plus it has over clocking, which this tablet already out performs my expectations especially being over a year old and running a Tegra 2. It's a solid tablet, I use it for typing my papers and doing my research at my university, and if you don't plan on doing anything ridiculously graphically intensive it will suit all your needs just fine.
