I've been using Nook for two years and Nook Simple Touch for 5 months or so.
I've rooted both my devices and used them that way (until my original Nook got those screen problems and became unusable)
Starting from first days I realized that the battery life was quite shorter than advertised. In fact it was almost unacceptable, like draining %10-15 a day while standing by (at the regular screensaver)
First I thought this was caused by the rooting and custom firmware. I tried the regular disabling of services, but to no avail. After a while I decided to return to the stock 1.1 firmware (on NST). To my horror I saw that nothing changed. Then I rerooted the hardware, still same.
One day, while I was reading a book I got a call and had to leave the house very fast. Thus I bagged the NST and got out of the house.
After returning home, I left that bag in my living room and did not open it for five days. After five days I picked up the NST, which was %70 charged five days ago, sure that I had to charge it again. To my surprise I saw that the charge was still %62. How could this happen, I began to querry. And remembered that I did not manually activate the screensaver -which was my general behaviour.
After that day I did not manually activate the screensaver even once and the battery drain is never more than 1-2%/day.
I'm not an Android developer, I'm a regular computer guy (using computers for almost 30 years) but I have strong gut feeling that this may be the problem, that manually activating the screensaver is not same as activation after a time out.
I guess many people over here, being -not regular users but optimization obsessed technical people- prefer to activate the screensaver manually. Thus they have the drain problem.
If you are suffering the same problem, please test this and write your feedbacks over here. May be one of the coders can look into this problem in the end.

I certainly believe that the problems are related to not fully going into sleep mode.
I have caught the Nook many times that it was supposed to be sleeping and the touch screen was still running.
I always used the power button when I'm done, I had the screen timeout set on one hour.
I just set my screen timeout to 10 seconds to play with this.
I couldn't get the Nook to act up with the power button shutdown.
To set your screen timeout to a arbitrary value (time in milliseconds):

I use my Nook Simple Touch minimally and almost always use the back button to activate the screensaver. I see pretty good battery life upto 20+ days. The only thing I do differently from you is turn off wifi before I activate the screensaver. Maybe wifi is the main cause for the battery drain.

WiFi is definitely a big one.
Any easy way to "auto turn it off" with screensaver activation?
Don't know about that - I always use the "sleep" button to activate the "screensaver". Right now, I'm up to a month of use, and like 30% batt still. I turn wifi on when I need it, and off again when I don't. Glowlight on for like 20 min/day.
Actually really impressed with NST Glow.
Sorry I did not mention, that my wireless is always off.
@Apokrifx: I'm using the power button at the back to go to sleep mode.
What you all are saying is similar to general behavior. Everyone is not experiencing this drain among Nook users, only some.
In my case, letting NST time out really solved the problem.
What Renate says is really similar to my experience. Time and time I accidentally touched the screen (while it was on the screensaver and it asked for the swipe motion (meaning the touch interface is responding) which should not happen in the sleep mode.
I'll let you know if anything changes.

I think the original post info is quite accurate. I notice when I don't go back to the home screen, and leave it on the stock reader when I put it down-- battery life is much better.
It appears that, when the stock reader is running, it shuts down most background services. But, that's just a theory.
i guess when u activate ur screensaver that wont drain power from ur battery ..... cuz in screensaver mood the animation on screen stopped like calculator screen ..... just display image and didnt move any pixels on screen ..... so .... ummm .... i guess ur problem may u not charge battery well .... let me tell u .... u must per month empty the battery until nook tells u that ur nook device cant power on .... and that will guarantee to u long life to ur battery also keep ur battery more efficiently and working perfect

Actually, I've had no battery problems in a while.
I've got rid of almost all the B&N stuff though.
USB host mode, with its polling seems to take a bunch of battery though.
It's still manageable.
I got my glowlight nook recently(after I stepped on my old Nook ST, ouch). When you have glowlight on and the Nook goes into sleep mode the glowlight turns off. It happens even if you press the back button. But... I had few instances when the screensaver activated and the glowlight didn't turn off... Can't reproduce this issue too often and with glowlight at least I know when it didn't turn off But other services might have simmilar issue.
I wonder whether this has anything to do with the wi-fi sleep mode you can tweak on normal Android phones... maybe the default sleep disconnects the wifi too, while the sleep button in the back just activates the screensaver.

I love my Nook Simple Touch that I purchased in February of this year. I was so disappointed that after this short time and charging to 100% it would drain to 8% over night..This happened twice. I did NOT have the wi-fi on and the automatic shutoff I had set to 2 minutes so no issue there. No recent updates had been done to cause an issue like this.
I was not worried because it was still under warranty and would be replaced. So I called B&N CS and went through all the steps with them to make sure it was in fact defective.
He asked me to totally shut it down and do a hard reset and re-re-register the unit. I was not hopeful that this would work at all. I know that a hard reset can fix a multitude of sins but I never would have thought it would work to fix this battery draining issue..To my surprise it worked.. Battery charge is holding just like before.. I read a lot and usually charge it once a month.. I am so glad that this worked. Such an easy fix but I will continue to monitor the battery charge just in case.

I have tried it, and it seems to work fine, holding charge OK. Bogeygirl says hard reset, but it is the soft one. Foredog says that you don’t need to click the power button to sleep (just leave Nook to do the job for you), but I do click it to sleep, and I do also tap the screen, just to make sure that it is properly sleeping. It is fine at the moment. I think the whole problem with the battery is a software error with sleeping mode, as you say here. I think you are right.
I don’t have it rooted, as I only want it for reading.
Do you have any other advice for the battery? Or easier? I think everybody is having problems with the battery.:crying:

Does Deep Sleep Battery Saver help with the power-button not sleeping properly?
It performs several functions:
1. Supposedly automatically puts the device into sleep mode whenever the screen turns off (if you configure it properly).
2. Functions as a task killer, with a whitelist, to clear out buggy apps.
3. The Whitelist allows you to prevent useful apps from being killed.
I still use the power button to put the NST to sleep. Last night it drained about 7% overnight, although I leave WiFi on and read RSS feeds for an hour before putting it down. Also, DSBS is configured to wake up the device every four hours.

The battery drain is due to some BN apps and Android System apps, mainly. I use the last version of "SystemApp Remover" for disabling apps (eg:AFfileDownloadService.apk,AccountAndSyncSettin gs.apk, BnAuthenticationService.apk, BnCloudRequestSvc.apk, DemoMode.apk, DeviceManager.apk, DeviceRegistrator.apk, Music.apk, NookCommunity.apk, Phone.apk, QuickStartActivity.apk, Shop.apk, Social.apk ,TelephonyProvider.apk, WaveformDownloader.apk).

I thought it was due to the device not sleeping after the power button was pressed?
I also removed those APKs from the system directory, thanks to many of you guys.

I had a Kobo mini & was not happy with the formatting of PDFs, hence I *had* to get a Nook Simple Touch ... the PDF formatting is excellent. However, I soon suffered the battery problem & couldn't get it to charge. I followed the advice on this page and it works so much better now. This is what I did :-
1) Switch off the Wifi. I have no need for it anyway as everything I read is PDFs loaded via SD card.
2) To charge, make sure the device is fully off using the back power button.
3) I charge it using a wall socket, rather than a computer. I have heard that this makes a difference in charging times.
It's early days, regarding how long it stays charged, but I reckon I will be resorting to switching the power off, rather than putting it on standby. I'm just pleased I managed to get it to charge at all and I am back in business.

You probably don't want to resort to always powering off your Nook all the way, because the boot-up sequence uses about 3 or 4 times as much battery as regular use, making multiple reboots take up a large amount of battery.

Is there a way to change default values?
I have a nook simple touch glowlight, it's about 5 years old. Recently it has been saying battery too low to use. I plug it in and it goes to restart right away. When I look at battery life it my be at 89% (this was today). Is there something I can do to make this stop? It's quite a pain to to this everyday. I read on this a lot about a 1000 pages per week. In the "old" days a charge would last 20-30 days! Please help, I hate to get a new on, I love my nook!

Hi guys,
I have a problem with my Jade. I've charged it last evening and I've barely used it. When I've went to bed it was 96% charged (ARIELbattery) and 10 minutes used.
This morning, when I've woke up, The battery was 33% and and the phone was 34 minutes usage time.
Something is wrong. Since there were no bluetooth, no wifi, no anything activated. And for sure, nobody played with the phone during the night.
This is not the first time when I see this behavior, but is the first time when the decrease is so big.
I suspect an app, but I do not know which of them. How can I see it?
Do you have other suggestions?

There are some possible reasons:
Some SD-Cards seem to drain battery, so you can take it out for a test.
Some additional software is told to drain battery. Did you install something?
It is also helpful to switch to "flight-mode" over night. This normally reduces battery drain to nearly zero, if no additional consumers exist.

What can I do with the SD Card?! I need the SD-Card. Which card does not drain battery and which does?

I've read those before posting, but there was no answer to my problem. I have 67% drop of battery in 8 hours without touching the phone.
This is most likely that your device goes to screenoff or unattended power state instead of sleep. Your power settings might be corrupted. To change that go to your power settings advanced tab and change everything there (checkboxes and sliders), press ok and then change them back as they were, press ok. I'd suggest to keep the device turning off in one minute while on battery and none of the checkboxes for cord powered mode. There is a really freaky thing that even if you get your device to sleep with power button it will go back to screenoff mode after time specified by the turn off device slider while on battery IF you don't have that turn-off-while-on-battery checkbox checked there.

Thanks for the answer. But I do not really understand what you are saying here.
My power settings are: 30sec for Screen Light and 1 min for Device (on battery).
None of the check boxes is set for the case when the device is powered.
It could also be due to the battery defect. After some time the battery could lose its storage ability (because of the defect), despite the mAH stated.
As a comparison, my battery is nearly one year old. On full charge, overnight drawdown (on sleep mode) is about 2%-3% .

I have no own experiences with this programs but Skype for example needs permanent connection to internet when activated (be care of the background job!). This uses data connection and this drains battery. I can not quantify this in %. In addition Skype does not allow the system to switch to deep sleep because it needs permanent connection!
None of the app was started. I just have Skype installed, but it was not used.

I found some German threads that discuss a problem with this software and battery life. Some loose 10% over night others 50%. I think you should try to uninstall (and afterwards soft-reset!) for a night and see what happens.
Please keep us informed.
First of all, I've disabled the 3G. Now it only gsm with gprs. Since I've done this it seems the battery drop is ... super ok. If yesterday morning I've had 33%, this morning I've had 20%, so 13% drop in 24h, and the phone was used normally as before.
last night the S2U2 was not started.
I will wait until the battery level reaches 10% an I will do a full charge.

Hi,
So now, 2 weeks later... after setting my Jade to GSM only (no 3G) I get 7-8 days of normal usage. As I said, before I always had to charge it the third day.
Normally, i get -28mAh drain in standby. When the screen is on around -130mAh (for wake up) and then -70mAh. In a gsm call i get around -250mAh.
I did not switch the phone back to 3G yet, but I will and I will see again the battery drain.
PS: the values were provided by Mobadi.
i believe i have S2U2 installed... and my phones fine!
i have the overloaded rom... and battery life seems great only needs charging every 3 or so days and i do use it quite alot!
so...
after some time of testing and re-testing I still have, from time to time, the behavior that during night I see a massive drop in battery level and an increase of the usage time.
I do not know what is going on, but I suspect that some app is waking up the device to do some work (without turning on the screen), and the Jade cannot go to sleep anymore for a while.
I've notice the same behavior on a HTC Diamond 2.
Since none of the app I have installed on my Jade are installed on my friends Diamond2, I have no idea what app could do that.
If anybody has any idea, feel free .... I am idea-less!
I've made myself a little application to log the current values of the power data. So, I've saw that my phone wakes up each hour by himself, without turning on the screen, does some work (cca -70mA) and after 30sec goes back to sleep.

This is my first android phone and I'm wondering if I am doing anything wrong. Yesterday I charged my phone and it was at 83%. I unplugged the phone and went to sleep, when I woke up this morning the battery was completely drained.
This happens a lot. Even if I am not doing anything it still drains like crazy. I just text, make some phone calls and it barely makes it through the day. I don't play any games, no gps, no Bluetooth or anything. With my plan, I don't have a data connection so I can't connect to 3g/4g so that shouldn't drain anything.
What could I be doing wrong? When I'm done using the phone I tap the power button on top, the screen goes black - to sleep I presume and I put it away. I had an iphone before this and I did exactly the same thing and the battery lasted for 3-4 days on one charge.
Whenever I see what's using up the battery, the display tops the list. The display is using up 75-80% of the battery. If the phone is asleep for most of the time why is the display using up that much battery? Am I not putting the phone to sleep correctly?

If you cant connect to 3g/4g, you should turn it off in settings. Otherwise, Your phone will constantly look for a signal, draining your battery.
Battery life is all relative. Every single person will experience different battery life. The apps you have installed, the amount of time you spend on it and the time you spend on/in each app, distance from cell towers, distance from Wi-Fi sources, settings you have for every app and things like sync and what not.
The first thing to check is if your phone is being affected by the init or suspend bugs. The good news is the former has an easy fix, and the latter can be temporarily fixed by a reboot.
First, download & install Watchdog Lite from the market. Then open its preferences and check "include phone processes," "monitor phone processes," and "display all phone processes." Then just use your phone as normal. It may take a while before you get an alert from Watchdog (and maybe you never will and it ends up you have a different problem). But if you do, note the process that is the culprit.
If it is the init process, go to settings>applications>development> check "usb debugging."
If it is the suspend process, reboot the phone. It should keep it from happening again for a while.
I know the second answer isn't really an answer, but so far it's all we've got for that problem. There is more information on the 2 problems in these threads:

Good luck...I had both of the problems and my phone didn't last to dinner time. Now I get better battery life than the iphone 3GS I had before this...about a day and a half of moderate use.
EDIT: also you'll probably want to go to settings>wireless & networks>uncheck "mobile network" since you don't have a data plan. No reason to have that on since you don't have a data plan.

I installed this using the Moderate setting, and then selected those options as recommended in preferences.
Does Watchdog use a lot of system resources when running in this manner? Will it cause the battery to drain noticeably faster?

Completely unnoticeable, IMO.
I installed watchdog lite and I have had couple of alerts. I got suspended couple of times and I also got Android system once.
Android system - 50.1%
Foreground
Suspend - 54.4%
Linux Process
I turned off the data usage from the settings and it did help save battery. The display is not using so much battery life anymore. It went from using 70% to 35%.
Edit: Battsatt reported that the battery was at 93%. When I saw the two alerts above I rebooted the phone and Battsatt now starts reporting the phone is fully charged.
Make sure the GPS is turned Off, too...
All these answers and the easy ones were not mentioned..
Make sure you shut your AUTO SYNC off...
Make sure you lower your brightneess....
Make sure you turn off GPS(was stated above me)
Turn off your wifi if you are not using it.. make sure you are not transmitting your hot spot stuff...

You just summed it up right there. You are experiencing the 'suspend' issue, period. There is no app you can install to fix it. There is no app you can uninstall to fix it. There is no setting you can adjust to fix it. There is no fix for the 'suspend' issue, literally.

If there was an app or setting that fixed the 'suspend' issue, we wouldn't even be discussing this right now. There are fixes/workarounds for a lot of things, but right now, the 'suspend' process issue truly is a mystery. No one, not a single person has yet to post, "this is the cause of the issue," let alone a fix for it.
I wish you had a fix man, I really do. My fiancee experiences this and there's only one way she's found to sort of workaround it, sort of - she reboots her phone every morning. This seems to keep it at bay, at least more so than when she doesn't reboot each morning, once she takes it off the charger. She still gets it though and she's just used to looking for Watchdog and checking her processes now.
This thread could go on and on forever but it comes down to this:
- The MT4G does not have insane battery drain and will give you about 12 hours of life, under normal>medium usage. If your battery is draining insanely quickly AND if you're seeing the suspend process jacked up so high, then there.is.no.fix.yet.
There might be a ton of other replies after this about uninstall this, install that, change this, don't use widgets, use widgets, etc. Those attempts will be futile.

Trying to find some info about some behaviour my Iconia has.
I love my device. Way more capable than my wife's Ipad and all that. There's only one thing that irks me: battery drain while the device is idle.
I also have a B&N Nook 1st gen (for books) and an EVO 4G. I leave and use the Iconia mostly at home, close to the WiFi. I'll take it out for long trips and such, but it stays close. I have it set up so that the WiFi antenna turns off when the screen does. Low brightness on the screen, will only charge the battery when it's low enough to charge, etc. It stills drains close to 6-8% if I leave it alone a couple of hours.
Earlier today I rooted the device and use Bloatware Freeze to freeze some stuff. Eventually I'll get rid of some of the gunk the tablet has installed. I want to figure out how to shorten that gap. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that the tablet left alone consumes 8% of battery charge! I mean, if nothing can be done then so be it, I'll learn to live with it.
For my money I would bet that there is something hidden in the Iconia's OS build that thinks it is a 3G/4G device. Now, I'm wondering what would happen if I were to take the next (logical) step and put another ROM in it. Would this make a difference? If I can make the battery drain stop at 5% or less, that would make this perfect.

I love my device. Way more capable than my wife's Ipad and all that. There's only one thing that irks me: battery drain while the device is idle.
I also have a B&N Nook 1st gen (for books) and an EVO 4G. I leave and use the Iconia mostly at home, close to the WiFi. I'll take it out for long trips and such, but it stays close. I have it set up so that the WiFi antenna turns off when the screen does. Low brightness on the screen, will only charge the battery when it's low enough to charge, etc. It stills drains close to 6-8% if I leave it alone a couple of hours.
Earlier today I rooted the device and use Bloatware Freeze to freeze some stuff. Eventually I'll get rid of some of the gunk the tablet has installed. I want to figure out how to shorten that gap. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that the tablet left alone consumes 8% of battery charge! I mean, if nothing can be done then so be it, I'll learn to live with it.
For my money I would bet that there is something hidden in the Iconia's OS build that thinks it is a 3G/4G device. Now, I'm wondering what would happen if I were to take the next (logical) step and put another ROM in it. Would this make a difference? If I can make the battery drain stop at 5% or less, that would make this perfect.

I leave my device with airplane mode checked, and then re-check wifi (as airplane mode will initially turn off your wifi). I get no strange programs showing up in battery usage now.

I'll try this next time I head out. Will leave her in Airplane Mode and will check the battery level when I come back.
I did disable the GPS and all location settings. I do not need it to know where I am, since I have the EVO for that.

Well I'm glad I came across this. I didn't even think about leaving the GPS on and consuming battery. Also, where did you adjust for your wifi to turn off when the screen goes off?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.
I am developing an app that uses bluetooth and I noticed that if I leave bt on my tab will go dead in 2 days, if I turn it off it can stay idle for several days before needing a charge. I leave the wifi on all the time.

Wow I don't even have 8% drain with Wifi on all the time. There maybe something else in the mix. Most of my drain is the screen as I set it to auto and in my home it ramps up brightness most of the time. Is it possible you have a rogue app? Have you tested the tablet 'fresh', ie: after a factory reset with 1 google profile set up?

This is interesting, on 3.01 & 3.1 I've had zero drain with screen off w/up to 16 hrs. Settings : Wi-Fi disconnect policy never when plugged in, location & security use wireless networks on & gps on. Airplane mode , always off. I can't understand why you folks are having these problems. Hope we find out. Oh & by the way that's not charging.
Forgot to mention I use Juice Defender.

Well, after much tweaking I think I'm somewhere where I feel comfortable. As a disclaimer I don't take the Iconia with me on my daily commute. Again I take my EVO and my Nook with me. The tablet spends the entire time I'm out in the office at home, unused.
I disabled all screen animations and I'm using the tablet on the lowest brightness setting.
I disabled the GPS and all location-related settings.
I rooted the tablet and am using Bloat Freeze to freeze/disable some of the Acer 'junk'.
I put the table in Airplane mode before heading out.
Last night when I went to bed I didn't use it (I was reading a very good book and I did not use the tablet to watch any of my shows). So I put it in airplane mode after I played with the new Google Music app (Impressive!). I went to bed around 11:00 and woke up at 5:00. In this span of time, battery went down by 1%.
Used it this morning to tweet, check a couple of websites, email. Was @ 71% at 7:00AM. Came back close to 7:00PM. Battery was at 67%. Right now (8:50 EDT) it's at 1d 19h 55m on battery @ 59% charge. Heavy usage of TweetCaster, TuneIn Radio, Browser, Market, &c.
Mind you, it was not used for close to 8-9 hours or more. If I were to take it with me the consumption would be more, but then I would probably use Airplane mode when it was not in use. Besides, I can't use it at work b/c the wireless is not compatible.
I'll keep doing some research, but I'm comfortable. I accept the fact that it will drain regardless, since the OS is up. The previous consumption was too much, and I think I can live within the 2% - 4% consumption rate. If it can go down to 1%, though, that would be even better.
Any other ideas welcome.
beautiful Widgets comes with a widget to disable/enable wifi like we're all used to on our phones.
I loaded prime 9.3 today because I wanted to try a 3.2 rom (for GPS and sd-card reasons). On that rom I noticed the 3g settings were visible until I added the line "ro.carrier=wifi-only" to build prop. I was able to see cell standby show up in batt usage.
Not sure if you guys knew it or not but under battery usage you can click on the graph to see a graphical depiction of what hardware used the battery when. If GPS was active when it shouldn't have been you'll see it there.

Are you suggesting that the 3g apk is active on the 3.1 image? I posted this question to a developer in Market that has an app that kills this on the Iconia. Maybe that's the other 2% - 4% I can kill.
Prime is a 3.2 rom. You could try adding that line and rebooting though.

You'll need an app like root explorer that will let you mount the /system partition as read/writeable. In the /system directory there will be a build.prop file that you can open with a text editor (root explorer has this feature built in). You'll see many "ro.xxx" lines. At the end of the first group you'll just need to add the line "ro.carrier=wifi-only" without the quotes. Save and exit the file. Reboot tablet. On reboot, it will read the values in build.prop.
On the prime 3.2 rom, the settings for mobile networks are visible without that line added to build prop. I was actually seeing cell standby in the battery usage list. I never saw that on the stock rom. I use a toggle button for the wifi to quickly turn it on/off from the home screen and that keeps wifi from using any battery while sleeping..
I really doubt that GPS is the culprit in your case. Did you click on the battery usage graph to see what hardware was using the battery during the period of sleep?
Also remember
The % charge that the system reports is not always a very accurate indication of how much charge your system actually has - what matters is up time and how long you can go between charges.
Airplane mode is your friend - no real need to disable animation (has nothing to do with idle charge) - the only thing I do is enable airplane mode when away from charger and not using my tab - some of the drain you are reporting could be due to your system scanning for open hotspots.
Also remember all it takes is one poorly coded app to totally screw your battery over - as you are rooted, quite easy to check for apps that relaunch themselves even after closed, apps that want to phone home every 60 seconds - etc.
Would highly recommend you take a close look at any non-stock apps that you have installed.

I've been using my Nook for more than a year now and have just recently started college so using it has became immensely important for my studying. However, for a longer period of time I've been experiencing a freezing problem on my Nook. It didn't really bother me a lot before as it wouldn't occur very often - only when the battery is half drained would the device freeze, usually within a minute of unlocking the device (tho that's not always the case). At that point I would restart it by holding the lock/unlock button, and then it worked normally for some time.
Recently I've been really using my Nook day and night and the battery charge seems to drop more easily then before, and considering that reaching the "freezing point" on the battery is not so hard now, the freezing is becoming ever so annoying.
In accordance to these events I have tried to "fix" the problem. I rooted my Nook almost the second day after opening the box and have been very satisfied with the ability of reading PDFs with other apps, especially now on college. I have therefor thought of the root as the source of All the Evil, and tried to reroot the device, as well as factory restoring it by a couple of methods (of which none had the desired effect to remove the root, or at least the rooted start up screen). So far no solution, done by my amateur knowledge of android hacking, has produced the effect of removing the freezing plague. So I thought I should ask for the help of xda community if they had any advice on how to proceed in this bamboozling situation.
P.S. The funny thing I noticed that the device will not freeze if plugged in to the wall outlet or the PC, if that's of any use.
P.P.S. I'm using the 1.1.0. version of software, not sure what else is relevant for the problem, but please do ask..
The battery, the battery circuit or the battery discharge calibration curve may be out of whack.

Also, I have done some thinking and thought that my SD card might be causing the freeze, since it's not the most reliable card I have. Therefor I copied all my books from it to the device internal memory and removed the card from the device, but unfortunatly it produced no visible effect - device just froze on me minutes ago even without the card..
That command goes into the Linux shell in Nook, either through the ADB shell or a terminal app.
If you have a non-stock Settings.apk "Battery Info" might be directly accessible.

So I installed a terminal emulator, and ran your piece of code and this are the results:
While charging battery voltage is 4194mV and while unplugged it's around 3850mV +- 50mV.
Also the funny thing I noticed today was that my Nook froze and at the moment I had a PDF document opened in PerfectViewer which was set up to display battery percent as well as time. The percentage at which Nook froze was 55%. I left it frozen like that until I got home and plugged it in the wall (perhaps 2 or 3 hours have passed in between) - that's when it came back to life and restarted. When it powered on I opened settings and the battery percent was at 27%. So in that short time span of "being frozen" the battery charge level droped for around half of the current level!
Could it be that it's actually doing something else in the background that tends to use a lot of my CPU/battery and the screen and buttons just do not respond while this "process" or whatever is running?

I have used my SD card and flashed CWM on it and then used it to install Touch-formatterv2 on my Nook. I have then set up the device and no less than a minute since the Nook froze while I was just browsing the empty library.. Could this be a hardware issue?
any significant errors / warnings in logcat?

Okay so if I understood your thought correctly my battery display was "broken" and showed different values from the actual value of the battery. So when the battery drained the Nook would turn off but the battery meter would nonetheless show a half full battery. I think this is not the case, since it did occur only on somewhere around half the battery (50-60% and lower) but the thing is that that would just be the starting point. The freeze would happen regularly once or twice per day and I could continue using my Nook even without charging it back to full only with the risk of it freezing from time to time and having it restarted. Meaning that the battery display is probably accurate, since I still got to use the device until it completely dried out but with occasional freezing.
@jam_dev - I have currently restored to the unrooted stock firmware and therefor can't check any (that I know of) log to see for errors. But in do time, if the problem keeps occurring even on stock I will root it and set up a logging app to see what is actually happening in the time of the freeze. Thanks for the idea, and I'll keep you posted (if anyone actually bothers reading this thread)

It is a new nook,i tried as it come and all was perfect but i upgrade to 1.2 and rooted it
with NookManager after making a Image with Noogie.
I disable the app and all was ok.I also install a few programs :

Orion PDF and StyleTap are the only things you list that I don't have on mine, and my Nook's batter lasts much better than that. Do you turn WiFi off when not in use? How do you put it to sleep (leave the screensaver to come on, push and hold the 'n' key, use Button Savior's soft power button, or push and hold the rear power button to turn it off entirely)? I use combinations of the first three, and always turn off WiFi when I've finished with it.
First step would be try removing those apps, recharge to 100% and see how it lasts after.
If that doesn't fix it, restore your backup and return it to stock and see if that changes the behaviour. If it doesn't, your battery is probably bad. I think there's a lot of new old stock being shifted at the budget prices right now, and LiOn batteries only have a nominal lifespan of ~3 years from manufacture.
