Tectile NFC video leaked - Galaxy S III General

NFC tectile video, looks neat and potential is there.

I didnt see this posted here, if so please delete. ty

Nice
Was looking at these earlier,
I decided to buy tags from RapidNFC as I couldn't see these on sale yet, got 10 of them so I'll stick them to my desk at work, one or two at home to switch WiFi networks etc.
Will, get the TecTiles app to try with my tags when it's available.

I too got my tags from RapidNFC. I created a thread for us to share ideas and the different uses with NCF here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705361
Don't be afraid to poke your head in there and leave some input if you use the NFC or have a cool idea for some uses with the tags!
sent from my Galaxy S III

theres probably a way to exploit this app or even nfc on some devices. it will be neat to see what people come up with

Cool
I'll definitely join in, I'v been reading through a similar thread in the GNex forum but only one or two useful ideas there.

Soooooo, what happens if you attach one to the back of your phone? Maybe program it to check in with FB?

If you attach it, it will read the tag just fine... But only once. You'd have to un—attach the tag to get it to be be read again..

So much for my evil plan. Funny thought though.

yeah as it seems is its a one time 'check' until its removed and crosses by phone again. It seems that you have to set the app up to respond to the particular tag too. not the other way around where the tag tells the phone what to do.

Nexus NFC: ~The Forgotten~

So lovely developers, a note from the proud users: MAXIMIZE NFC USE.
I haven't found anything, correct me if I'm wrong, that currently uses the NFC capabilities of the S. I expected 2.3 to have something that would allow us to add CC info and use NFC at Pay-pass stations etc. So please developers, (Or even an app request?) find a way to use that NFC and we will love, Truly. That, and you users know it, will become a make/break for a ROM released.
Thank you for all of your hard work, and continuing work:
Flame.
Ps: If you ever need someone with some free time/Copy of Photoshop/ Beta-Testing, and some Common Sense I'm here!
As of right now, the NFC can only READ information. It has been confirmed though, that a later update will add the WRITE function to the NFC.
http://goo.gl/neyS6
It would have been nice for the retail packaging to include something like the places poster that Google gave to the press, just so we could test out the NFC.
That is on stock. Hopefully when source it out later today we can inspect and tweak. My hope was to enable fast data transfer similar to Bump, anyone know any maximum transfer rate speeds for NFC? Obviously wit read/write enabled.

I just hope nobody makes a app that could read credit card with NFC (blink) information. As of right now when I put my Nexus S on top of my wallet it reads: "Unknown tag type"
Hopefully it stays that way

You need to read more and post less. There are no APIs to write via NFC yet.
I like that you say "we" can inspect and tweak it, which its obvious you can't even search the forums, let alone RE or develop code.
I would keep an eye out on the Toshiba Regza phone from NTT DoCoMo in Japan. NFC is huge here. Every store has it and allows you to use it to pay for whatever. The new phone may have some APIs when it is released.

how do we use the NFC as a credit card?
normally we have to insert the credit card to the device to scan..
if by nexus S, how is it going to scan since the device only reads on chip from your credit card..

I have Chase, and both my Chase "check card" and MasterCard both have "Blink" which is their NFC enabled cards.
When Google finally enables read/write/send capabilities of the NFC, this is what I would guess would happen:
The Chase Android App, you log in and enable the NFC feature. So then you're at the grocery store, you lauch the Chase Android App, login, then "wave" your phone at the Credit Card terminal to pay.

You are genuinely a top level idiot. You need to love more and flame less. The API will be released... although true not with source.... because Google expressed explicitly they want to work with third parties. Nokia experimented with nfc for data transfer so it is unlikely that Google will ignore this use. And yeah if people flame you're right not we here at xda but we here at the OEM I work for. Idiot.

samsung tab -all surf and talk on 3g (dont get your hopes up just wanted to share)

I came across this video on youtube and this guys seems to be running a t-mobile tab using voice+3g (i think, not sure if that's what he means): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ4EDRLaILk
Of course he just shows off the tab running web and dialing while on H/3G, he does not explain how he got it done. I went ahead and sent him a message asking how he did it. My guess is that he is running google voice not sure, if anyone else is running google voice and is exactly as this guys is showing off please advise.
Did not want to get anybodies hopes up, just found it interesting. Lets see what he says if he replies.
Thanks for the pointer. I remember that video from a while back, like November. I think he is using a voip application, not the dialer.apk, but I could be wrong.
I just got a report from a member in China who gets voice +3g data with one modem. He is using a tab he purchased in Chicago, and a China Unicom sim. Someone in Isreal said they do too, but I didn't get the sim provider.
Bottom line - it's possible, just not in the US with T-Mobile tab and sim.

Not seems to be a VOIP App... don't know!
But I just put a GUIDE of how to place and receive calls on your GT via VOIP using your Google Voice account. Also you could Forward the Call on settings to your SIP# so if you place your SIM on your tab and you could get Forwarded the Call to your SIP# and it will enter via VoIP!
It's a great solution until we get another solution!

NFC Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Near Field Communication demonstration

Thought some of you interested in NFC might like to see some cool tags.
Thanks for that, I didn't know about the pro mode, good video!
I have a selection of tags and I've been testing them out with various ideas. I've decided that a good idea is to tag some of my items with a URL to a contact information page as a kind of identifier. All my stuff is registered with immobolise.com anyway so hopefully it would find it's way back to me.
Another useful tool I've found is Touchanote which links a tag to Evernote so that you can go straight to a particular note. I stuck the tag in my notebook on the back so that when I'm in a meeting and there's stuff to do, it will take me straight to my to-do list.
I also stuck one on the inside cover so that again when I'm in a meeting, I just pop my phone on top of it, and it will silence all sounds.
My biggest issue with them at the moment is the price. To get some really elegant task switching, I would need bigger capacity tags, and they are a lot more expensive than the readily available ntag203 types.
I know that I could use re-tag to repurpose existing tags with NFC, or use tasked, but there are some uses where I think it would be good to have some workflows which weren't specific to my phone alone.

For some reason, I am not able to see the video. I have been doing alot of reading on NFC today. Does anyone know if its possible to make them work NEAR the phone? Meaning if the phone is near the NFC chip, do this, if not, do this?
I would like to use something like this to emulate the "holster mode" for blackberrry

This video may help, show the scanning distance for NFC on Android devices, should be about the same across most handsets.
Awesome. So what are the chances I could make this work to change my phone profile? Say I put a sticker on the holster. Slide it in... it scans. will it continue to scan as I walk around? Or would it only scan again when I remove the phone? (scanning on insert and remove is what I want obviously)

WIME Nano Smartwatch, looks nice

Interesting Android smartwatch here. It can actually be used as a standalone phone, bands are GSM/GPRS Quad Band:GSM 850/900/DCS 1800/PCS 1900 MHZ (can this be used on AT&T?).
What I'm not seeing is if it can be used as a dialer for your phone, so you can just leave it in your pocket and make and receive calls like the Gear.
What do you guys think? I'm tempted to get it just to play around with.

Feature phone software, bleh.
Although I guess for 100 bucks you can't expect it to run Android.
Edit: Hmm, just noticed no where does it say there's a speaker built in...guess you have to use a headset to use it as a phone.
Also only compatible with Android 2.3-4.0. Doesn't say it works with newer.

Strange, I was also surprised by that 4.0 rather then 4.x reference. And I think you are right about headphone 3.5mm jack as the only way to listen to the music. Would have been great if they would include a camera in there.

Dunno why but personally i find most smart watches just tend to look either dull, or just plain awful. Maybe it's because of the space they have to work with? Dunno :/
You guys realize it's a phone? It might be nice to have as a backup phone, or if I just want a tiny phone. It doesn't run apps, but I never had much use for apps on a 1.5" screen.
It's interesting, I may grab one just to play around with. It seems to have AT&T bands. I don't plan on using it like a watch though, it's too ugly like that. I'd just stick it in my pocket or clip it on.

Built in mic allows you to answer on your wrist and be like I'll call you back it also has Bluetooth audio out and wireless headset support. Weird thing is contacts and messages won't work without a sim has to have one active or not I'm on Verizon so its pointless to try lucky I had art laying around and it vibrates!! This thing is sweet to be cheap!!!

[Q] kindle for samsung app on galaxy note 4

hi all
for some strange reason when i first got this device i was able to go to the samsung app store and
download the kindle for samsung app. It was nice, it had multi window function and I was quite happy about that.
as on my note 8 i had to hack the darn thing to work with multi-window (tutorials are lovely things aren't they )
I had to do a factory reset on the thing and ever since then i'm not able to find that app anymore.
I finally stumbled on a thread in xda where some one posted the kindle for samsung app in an other thread for the S6 i think it was. I managed to grab it from there but this one has no multi window function.
I've busted my brains for three days now, message samsung twice with absolutely zero luck. they seem to selectively become unable to comprehend anything I say beyond a point. Tried all kinds of vpn ip re-routing and still can't get onto the samsung app store to get this friggin app.
so if anyone in here has it would you please.. please please pleaaaaaseeeee im begging you be so kind as to give me a dropbox link or something so i can pick this thing up and finally use kindle with multiwindow? please?
I'm seriously drained now looking around and looking for a way around samsungs nonsense (don't even get me started on the google play store -not available in your country blah blah) uuuuuhhhh
help... i give up please help.
What you get in the Samsung store is dependent on device description in the build.prop. perhaps check if a flash of some Rom changed it.
Hmm I'm not sure what you mean. I'm new-ish to android. If you mean about rooting and changing from the official samsung rom to an other then no, I've never done that.
the phone is new. It was initially turned on and setup in the USA that may be why, I dunno. Samsung said that the kindle for samsung app is simply not part of the store which services my location. They zoned my country out (for an ebook reader? Maybe it's for the book deals but I don't care for that)
If you meant something else , what should I be looking for in this file and what should it be?
I guess it's time to find some tutorials again. (Heck of a lot of trouble for just one app though this is getting crazy for one apk)
I'm sure if I can just get the apk I'd be good.
Thanks though.
yeah, that was what i was refering to. if you flash a new rom it might be that the description of your phone changes.
the only thing i could think of would be that your sim card changed the region your phone is accounted to and so you can't download it anymore. a possible way would be to reset your phone and startup without sim, connect to wifi and install it from samsungs store and after that you can insert the sim card again and continue the setup. i understand that this is not a convenient way, so you'd better just search for the apk.
samsung is restricting access, because it comes bundles with one year service 1 free book per month.
i just tried it and could download and install it from the galaxy apps store.
Lol would you believe all while I was doing this there was no sim card in the phone?
I was getting a feel for the phone and transferring contacts playing with it all before I put the sulim on. In fact, I only put the sim card in five minutes ago for the first time.
it has to be the book deals. I don't care about that, I don't want any novels.
Could u extract the apk with "es file explorer" and post a Dropbox link?
That would be awesome , that's all I'd need I'm sure of it. That particular apk
is no where to be found anywhere online
Here is a tutorial on how to do it

Also just heard from someone who said that if I ever did flash my phone with an other rom that the app wouldn't work anymore (at least that was his experience). I'm not really into that anyways. About the only thing I'd be interested in would be getting this SM-N910H to unlock LTS like the N190C I'm guessing it's just software lock out. I saw something in an other forum thread on here with people experimenting with it. I've not finished reading to the end of that thread yet. It did seem that was really no difference in these phones though. I dunno. Guess I'd better back up right quickly then haha.
What is LTS?
Oh that's 4G I believe that's what it's called
Oh it is called lte around here. I do not understand that you need to unlock it. It should be activated by default.

oh snap you're right I must have gotten the acronym mixed up with linux lts (long term support) you're correct its LTE.. but on my model it doesn't have it included.
the SM-910C and a few others have it mine is the SM-910H that doesn't have it by default but seems it might be a software lock-out. I'd love to have it though.
i did not see mentions of software locked LTE here yet.
i found this thread which claims (at the start at least) that your phone is a 3G version of the note 4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/sm-n910h-3g-variant-t2925648
i did not read the whole thread, but if it really is not unlockable, perhaps you can exchange the phone with someone who does not need 4g and wants to have a little better battery life. in the end LTE modes were always known to drown your battery more quickly then 3g modems, i guess it is still like that.

Hey good looking out! Thanks.!!!
the truth is that I don't really need 4g at all.. I just like to have a complete device that's all. I don't use mobile data over here because it's terribly slow no matter what "g" they claim to have over here and I found it to expensive for what I get no to mention I'd likely only use it for text or whats app. I just stick with wifi. But I'll check out that article
and if it does indeed drain battery then there really isn't a compelling reason for getting it unless I was going to sell the phone to someone who would need data.
Hows that kindle app working out for you though?:good:
