SDhc problem. - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello!
I just got my new SD HC (32Gb) card for my htc HD2 device, but im getting weird crashes when i just put some Gb of for example music. It deletes some of it, or changes it to thousands of 0byte weird files..
Can someone help?
/card wasnt expensive and its not Kingston or so./

I'm really not certain about this, but their a limit on the size SD card our hd2's can support. (Either 16 or 32gb which is what I'm uncertain of) try formatting your new SD card into two 16 gb partitions and then see what happens.
Hopefully either that helps or someone with more knowledge than I will comment and give you a better answer

Well the limit is definitely not 16gb because I have one of those and it works fine in Android but it for some reason cannot boot SD Android. Also, if I'm not mistaken MarkAtHome (I've seen him in many of the NAND threads, especially NexusHD2) has a 64GB SDXC card as he was posting something about that a while ago. He'd have to confirm though.

Where did you get your memory card?? You son are a victim of false advertisement. I purposely purchased a "cheap" 16GB sd card from ebay and it wasnt even bigger than like 300MB. There are ways to fake the memory size, and thats why when you try to put the music on your card is says its not there because there truly isnt any physical memory available. And also why it gives those weird readouts. Sorry to bust the news :/

According to HTC's website, the HD2 can support up to a 32GB SDHC (class 10 i believe)

Yes. You set up two partitions 32 gb each.

There have been threads discussing how certain sd cards do not perform well in android devices, including the HD2. It has to do with some of the access times the cards are rated at.
I have tested a 32gb patriot class 10 card in the HD2 and samsung vibrant that made both phones freeze and run terribly slow until the card was removed.
Sandisk cards run flawlessly in the HD2 and I have only been using them for the past year, including a 32gb and a 64gb SDXC. The 64gb must be formatted as fat32 inside the phone before it can be used, but the full 64gb is available.

I agree with elesbb. Infact the same thing had happened to me about 4 years ago. What they do it put a memory hack in the SD card fooling it to think there is more memory. I would say if you bought it from ebay contact the seller first and
tell them you think it might be fake and you wish to get a real card asap. If they don't send you one or sound like they may be un-willing to then you should report them. Here's some information found on ebay's site about fake memory cards.
If you bought it from a different online seller you should still contact them about it and say you did some research and believe you recieved a counterfit item. In the link i shared above there are a few examples of how to spot fake cards including some pictures if you go through the links. I've read somewhere that if you have a sandisk and the class rating is in the corner then you more then likly have a counterfit one. Sandisk's class ratings should be centered in the middle of the SD card.

Okay, i've just sent email to him, hopefully he will just re-send me new, (working..?) or give money back!

8 gb is a possiblity for universal? is nuclear right?

well im sure some of you have read post from this guy. about how he is able to read files from his eight gb sd card in is uni even tho it only says 2 gb on his device. has anyone else gotten one of these supposed magical cards and tried it out? i searched on ebay and it seems to be that only one guy has or sells this specific card . is nuclear advertising for this guy , is he a scammer or is this true and we dont know about it yet. please give input if you have gotten one of these cards and have tested it out.
Even all those 4GB SD-cards are already non-standard and not working in most of the devices. From 4GB upwards they have to be SDHC-cards (SD 2.0) which are not supported by the Universal's reader. Sure, it would be possible to manufacture 8GB SD-cards, but it's very unlikely that they work in a lot of devices since SD was never meant to have more than 2GB.
Cheers,
-mARKUS
well i just saw today that a treo that was supposedly not able to support sdhc is now able to because of a firmware update. check engadgetmobile.com if that can be done with a treo why not the universal. if its a software problem im sure there are people in here that are able to help
Sorry about my long post but i am trying to give as much information as i can in one post.
I am requesting ROM builders to start firmware upgrades to support these 4GB and 8GB cards. Windows Crossbow doesnt support 4GB or 8GB SD only cards, instead it reads them and reformats them changing the firmware of the card to 2GB!!!!... I havent tried SDHC yet. Here are pictures of my 4GB Extreme III SanDisk SD only card. I couldnt upload it here so i zipped them and uploaded them to rapidshare. Helmi's AKU 3.5 ROM doesnt read a card formatted using Crossbow... i dont know its just too many details. I cant think. But I just want to let you guys know that you are right so far on your research. Keep the good work up!
http://rapidshare.com/files/8938902/sandisk_tech_support.zip
I emailed sandisk tech support these images. It seems they havent replied yet. Keep a track on all my threads as i keep posting about these cards everywhere.
Trust me its just because i have a lot of money that i am able to get my hands on these things. And i just keep posting my observations. I would even get my hands on the 32GB card if I could bribe the CEO of SanDisk.
It got reformatted to 2GB.. I am unable to make it 4GB again.
My 8GB card as you can see in pictures on ebay is a samsung make. Its also SD only. 8GB SDHC cards are available to be bought. They are a bit slower then normal SD cards and are cheaper too.
32GB cards will be coming soon in SD or SDHC i believe. I read it in news. Like its totally upto you to believe me or not, my information is very helpful to me but i still encounter problems and it seems not even sandisk can help me
Anyways so its a farse that Universal's SD card readers dont support SDHC. And you can file a lawsuit on SanDisk or Samsung for that. They just want you to spend more money into buying a SDHC card reader.... Truly its the ROM.
ok now i know u r full of shyt. u keep popsting that u have this card and it works but i have yet to see ne photos. u just like the attention u get from lieing through ur teeth. thats pretty sad
i dont know about the 8bg but my 4gb is working no probs,
doesnt matter if its empty, only used 900mb, or any amount in between empty or full, screen grab using SPB explorer of my current card status:
oh and to stop arguments there is no reason why nuclear couldnt download the demo of spb explorer then do a screen grab of his mem card section of memory just like i have in previous post!
so erm, as they say "get your cards out for the lads"
this is the card i got, dont know all the bull**** about this format that format, its slower etc, but this is quicker at loading tomtom sat nav up etc than my other card 1gb puremedia sd card, like i said 4gb, no problems http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SD_MOBYMEMORY_4096_001

I don't know that I come to the same conclusion after reading the thread in the link. It seems questionable at best since two of the posters specifically said it did not work for them.
SDHC compliant devices work with SDHC cards, SD devices do not.
You may be lucky to get one that you can read from, but an SD device will not write to it without screwing it up.
The Universal is SD not SDHC

Yo thats a SD card not a SDHC lol. in the email you said SDHD...now you say SDHC... lol
this is total bull, i have came to two conclusions after reading all these post.
1 -now it seems like the only person that sells this specific card that nuclear has is fastmemoryman and he is advertising for him. IF that is the case then i tell u guys not to deal with this scammer cause i bought from him before and was sent a 2 gb card disguised as a 4.
2- Nuclear does indead have a 8 gb card from samsung and is able to put his dvd in it but because sd 2.0 IS backward compatible as i have read it from several sites you are able to use only 4 gb of the 8. so he is putting his dvd in the card but only one movie,
those are the only two possible conclusion there is . so if its not number 1 then its number 2

Yup i think its #2 .... goddamn crossbow screwed up my 8GB card!... Alan knows it. Dont call me a scammer alright... first i am helping you and then you call me a scammer.
Don't bring me into this, I only know what you keep telling me, and what you post here.
I have no way of verifying what you say, one minute things work, one minute they don't, one minute you are developing a crossbow rom, the next you have one from another device.
It might be the language barrier, but half the time it sounds like you tell different stories from one thread to the next.

Copying SD Cards

I ordered a 32Gb SD Card for my HD2. But, I finally got a quality Android build going on my little 2 gigger. Everything works 99.9%. . . I did not think it was possible but after 2 days of tweaking and scowering threads I have one(I can share it if you like).
If I copy all files from my 2Gb card I can drop then straight on the 32Gb card after formatting.
Is there any issues with this at all?
I really hope not, since I have been working on this for pretty much two days straight.
You should be able to copy it over with out any issues. Just be sure to format your new card beforehand

I just got a class 4 Kingston 32gb microsd... I think that's the highest class 32gb available so far that's legitimate.
Anything that can read a 16gb card will be able to read a 32gb card... they're all sdhc. I don't think cards bigger than 32gb will be able to be made, though.

well there is 64gb on his way to micro SD HC (2gb+ = HC -->High Capacity)
they're also making 2TB micro XC ( eXtended Capacity),, O.O
2TB!!! xD

Are they making a 64gb sdhc? I thought I read somewhere that 32gb was the limit for sdhc. I know sdxc will be able to hold huge amounts, but unfortunately our hd2s can't use sdxc. That would be great if 64gb sdhc is made, because eventually a micro-sdhc version will be made. 64gb storage for my hd2 would be awesome... I could keep my entire music collection in that, along with my ebook and comic book collection!

Dude as far as I know Kingston do not make a 32GB sd card yet so you have likely bought one of those cheap fake ones of somewhere like ebay from a Chinese seller that is actually only 4/8/16GB and will just corrupt most of data as soon as you get to the "real" size limit.
A lot of people have been fooled by these fake cheap cards (myself included in past)
Kingston does make a 32GB microSDHC card.

I wouldn't buy a memory card from eBay... especially not for a 32gb card. I bought it from newegg. And you should maybe do a quick Google search before claiming to know something, because Kingston made announcements about these class 4 32gb cards a couple months ago.

To expand on this (since I am still new to HD2 and Android), if I wanted to change SD Cards, or try out a new ROM, all I have to do is make sure the Android folder is copied over?
Example 1: New SD Card - Format new card, copy all files, will boot into current Android ROM.
Example 2: Same SD Card, want to try a new Android build, backup the Android folder, replace with new ROM and boot up, if I don't like it, delete new Android folder and replace with backed up one and will boot back into old Android build without issues?
Thanks,
Yes!
And same for kernel ( zImage if is compress, and ussualy it is ) inside Android folder

I did learn one thing the hard way. Doing this while booted into Android is not really a safe way to do it. When I backed up my Android folder and put a new one on, it would not boot back into Android (said no Android Build was found). Looked at my SD card on the device and in a PC and the space was used up (for both builds) but could not find them.
I ended up backing up my SD Card contents I COULDD see (pics and whatnot) and formatting the card.
I copied it on the SD Card via Adapter in PC and everything is fine now.
I would suggest (for safety), that you do it this way or from WMo.
Thanks,
Well, this is wonderfull. First SD card I ordered was from eGay. 13 Bucks for a 32Gb. Right after I bought it, the seller cancelled their eGay account and dissapered.
I bought another card now a 16 Gigger for 26 Bucks.
Seems to be fake. I copy over the info and then I can not read anything. . . .
Crap, should have spent the extra 10 Bucks. Now, I have to get my money back from GayPal.
eGay really does suck now. . . . .

32GB SD card issue w/2.3.3 resolved

I recently upgraded my phone to 2.3.3 from 2.1.
After upgrading, my phone no longer detected my 32GB SD.
I spent a lot of time researching the issue and found that most people just went to a smaller card like I did.
I went out and bought a 4GB card.
After loading my phone up with apps and audio and images, 4GB was not enough.
So, here is how I resolved this...
I downloaded HPUSBDisk.exe which is an HP USB format tool.
Copied the content of my 4gb micro to my PC/Laptop.
I inserted my 32GB micro SD into a "micro sd USB adapter"...
Format the SD using the HP USB format tool (FAT).
Copy the contents from the 4GB to the 32GB.
When I placed the 32GB into the phone and powered it up it was now recognized.
weird, I own a 16GB card and never had problems with 2.3.3
actually never heard about this problem until today

16 GB are not really a issue.
I use a 32gb from Kingston and have no issues. ??? Think maybe it's not the memory size that is the problem. Maybe it got corrupted? I had that problem on a smaller card on a round of back to stock while playing around with ROMs and such. Formatted it on PC and all was fine... think it was 8? Was a while a go. But I've heard of it happening while updating, read about it after I had the issue with the card that came with my x10.

Yes but quite a few cards seem to have bad compatibility.
I'm curious if it's a certain class of cards that cause issues, or if it's certain vendors or brands? Do certain brands format them different and that causes the issue?
I researched what class was supported and bought a brand name (Kingston) that isn't high end but from a reputable business so I knew it wasn't fake. Bought a 32gb class 4 Kingston from Tiger Direct, popped it in and it worked fine. I put it in and tried it before transferring data to it.
I'm definitely not discounting the issue, but finding out WHY the issue is there is what I'm curious about.
i heard SDHC work the best but i'm idk the difference really, all i care about is the memory on the card

MY 16GB class 4 & 32GB class 6 KINGSTON both worked very well with no issue's.
Having the same problem!
I just upgraded my X10a to 2.3.3 and it's not detecting my 8gb SD card, I re-intalled the 2.1 android and the card worked fine, then I upgraded it again to 2.3.3 and formated the card, didn't work... I don't know what to do now!
Having a similar problem!
Hi, I've been having a problem with mi 8GB SD card, the thing is that I just Upgraded my X10 to 2.3.3, but it's not detecting the micro SD, it was working fine till I did the upgrade, so I took the card and plug it into the PC, it is working, then I tried changing the fortmat, didn't work either, so I changed it back to Android 2.1 and It got it working again, I tried one more time to upgrade to Android 2.3.3 and the problem persists, all the apps and features are working just fine, but the phone it's kinda useless without the microSD...
Anyone that knows what the problem might be, please reply, cuase it's very frustrating!!

The stock 8GB card in my x10 died quite fast.
They get scratched underneath easily.
Hate to bump up an old-ish thread. But I came across the following article and the pertinent quote from it is "We tested this card on some phones including Motorola Razr and Samsung Galaxy S2 and even on a year old Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and it works fine"
So it looks like this old dog was still able to use a 64GB micro sdxc card.
But at 110$ USD (cheapest I've found so far)... might not be worth it yet.

Inner-SD installation the risky way..

Hello Dell streakers.. I am planing to buy a used streak and was going thru various threads for streak development and stumbled upon a theard about upgrading streaks inner-SD from 2gb to 4gb. And then i searched youtube for any video regarding the same and found this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w4AbtIGp8A&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Is it realy safe to install inner sd like its done in the above video? Also i have two 16gb sd cards so is it possible to install both in this this device? Or maybe one 64gb card?Just curious...

That's one of the common ways to do it, if the video does what I think it does (only watched a couple seconds)
Method 1: Cut away the plastic covering the innersd, as there isnt that much
Method 2: Completely disassemble/reassemble the device, which is a huge amount of work.
Method 2 also must be repeated every swap, method 1 doesnt, but is a permenent change.
I know the S5 will accept a 4/8gb one without much issue.
16/32gb I dont recall, they may have issues.
A 64 one would be an SDXC, can you see the entire card in SDHC compability mode?
the answer is YES, is safe to install another card. I use the same method like in the video and i replace the card with 8gb class 10 from Kingstone.
Did in half an hour or so with the disassembly method upgraded to 8 Gb with 6Gb remaining internal memory. Get a 8Gb class 10. Mine is a trancend ultimate. Tried a kingston 16Gb class10 but the phone didn't recognize it. Perhaps the transcend 16 will work as well as 8Gb version. Mind you the phone does a fscheck on startup so the larger the card is the longer it takes to start up. It took about 30% more time for the 8Gb to start up as it did with the 4Gb class4 stock card from sony.
Grts.

You need to do something to the card to get it to accept more than 8 gigs, though I don't remember what. It is perfectly safe. A hell of a lot safer than taking the entire phone apart, risking ESD, etc. Though, my cut wasn't as clean as that. Lol.
Allright!!
Seems like this method actually feels less risky then opening the whole phone apart.. I remember how i messed up my sony vaio ux while upgrading the internal 32gb HDD with 128gb HDD..
Allright then.. btw i found information about how to enable innersd more then 8gb. Theres some sort of script and editing in boot file.
Thanks for the responses guys..

Me too. I was actually more worried that I'd slip with the knife and ruin the phone. It was dead simple to disassemble the Streak - I went slowly and carefully the first time, but in the end, it was simple.
the question is : does it makes you're streak faster to or is it just more storage?

It gave me more storage, and actually slowed down my Streak. Trying both a 4gb and 8gb card, I ended up with a lot of pauses and slowdowns just doing basic operations with my Streak. It was nice to have the extra space, but it made the phone way less usable.
I went back to the stock card.
I put in a Sandisk 8gig class 4 sd card and the streak feels snappier than before. The stock sd card is a 2gig class 4 card.

Opening the Streak up? I did that a couple times, I'm not sure how you'd break the inner SD card doing that.
I got fed up with it though and finally just cut the plastic. It was a little nerveracking, but I managed not to damage anything (just some scratches on the outside of the original inner SD card). 8gig CL10 and I'm laughing now, everything seems to work fine.
im using assembling /disassembling ( tear down the streak ) to replace my innerSD.
using 4GB class 6 now. it can use more than 8GB (like 16 or 32 or higher)
but you need to copy your old inner to the new one and resize the partition.
after that, it would work like a charm. you no need to re-install your ROM

Ide like more info on getting a 16gb or bigger to work. . . . . And what is that script to run on copied to new sd.
Also. . . . I wonder if a 64gb would work if it was formated first in fat32,instead of exfat. . . . . I read somewhere on a sammy forum for the note 2,that there was a special process some used to get their 64gb cards to work

copy your old inner partition to the new one using free software that you can find with googling. i use minitoolpartitionwizard for this things.
after that you must enlarge the partition on your new inner (the copied data/partition that you must enlarge) using partition tools hirenbootCD (i use ver10)
then insert your new inner sd and try..
for DSC ROM if i am not wrong it only support max 16GB. but theoretically it can be no limit.
try my method... check the signature (no need googling )... 64gb is possible but sorry.. no fat32 supports right now...

Problems with 64GB SD card

Hi.
I recently bought myself a 64GB class 10 Sandisk card from Amazon which I was going to use with my Note 3. When I first put it in I formatted the card in the phone. And then I took a few pictures and videos and all seemed to work fine.
The next day when I was taking some photos it suddenly switched over to the internal memory and I got the message that it was unable to save to SD card. I checked the gallery and the last picture i took was corrupted. So after this I tried taking the card out with the phone turned off, put it back in and started the phone. I was able to take some photos but when I was going to record a video it corrupted the file again.
After this I put the card in my PC and did a full format to exFAT and tried filling all ~59GB with pictures, videos and other files and from what I could see no files were corrupted.
Then I formatted it once again in my PC to exFAT and put it in the phone. After a few pictures it once again corrupted the files, even the camera app (default one) crashed at one point. Formatted the card in my phone again but same problem.
I then tried the card in my Gopro camera, first formatted it in the camera then recorded several videos in both 4K, 1440P, 1080P and took several pictures and everything was fine.
I'm not sure but the card seems to be working in other devices. Do you think the problem is the card or my phone? Before this I've used a 16GB class 4 Sandisk card with no problems at all.
Any tips on what I can do?
Thank you in advance!
Are you have a custom rom or just rooted as I think you need to flash sdfix

It's stock and not rooted.
Could be a bad card, try unmounting and mounting the card again and see if that fixes it.

Yeah I've tried that a few times as well and it didn't help. But as I mentioned the card seems to work just fine it other devices. But in my note 3 files get corrupted.
Do you know of any program or any other way to test/confirm that it is the card that's bad?

Actually I do. I have used the HP SD Card Format Tool to fix cards in the past and it has worked pretty well. I also found this thread here on XDA that references it as well.

What write and read speeds were you getting in the PC? The Sandisk models are among the most faked models and that is by far the most frequent problem that I have seen. There have been also certain batches with problems, but Sandisk is always replacing those almost no questions asked if it is a genuine card.
I also have a 64GB Sandisk Ultra which was used about 1 year in my i9300 and now almost 4 months in the N9005 and so far I have never had any problems (but I am keeping an eye on the 128 GB models if those seriously go down in price).

I just ran a test in the program H2testw 1.4 and got these results:
Warning: only 60872 of 60874 MByte tested.
Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the past files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 8.49 MByte/s
Reading speed: 17.5 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4
So the reading speeds seems fine I guess, it also filled the card with files and verified it.
I would assume that if it was a fake it would have slower speeds and maybe only 2-4GB of space?
I am using the SD card adapter that came with the SD card, and then I put it in a USB SD card adapter in a USB 2.0 port.
Is anyone else having problems with 64GB SD cards? It's as if my Note 3 wasn't compatible with the card since it is working fine in other devices and isn't a bad card according to the test I did.
Sorry .deleted.
Sounds like a hardware fault on the Note 3... I've been using both a sandisk and a samsung 64gb class 10 card on both my note 3's with no problems from the start...
Never had a problem with file corruption....
sdhc and sdxc are 2 different formats - sounds like you could use a 32gb sd card fine but it has issues with the 64gb sd card.... 64gb sd card is the newer format sdxc....
Unfortunately here you hit a snag... Unless the samsung sites list 64gb as ok to use on the Note 3 then they may just say to to warranty repairs.... If 64gb is the listed size (generally "up to ") you should have no problem. It does sound like your card reader doesn't like sdxc... Unless you can get your hands on another 64gb sd card to find out you not be able to use your 64gb sd card...
