Was on WW.26 and OTA to WW.29 came up this morning.
Device Tracker now recognizes my SN as valid, so I think Unlocker should work now too.
I downgraded to DE.17 again (using Wolfs method) to get root but now there's no OTA to WW.26 coming up ( Maybee they save the last firmware state of the device beside our SN too.
Will try to manually update to WW.26 again and see if OTA to WW.29 comes up again.
If not, I think I'll unlock it too

Im confused....
Hey, are you all saying that you can unlock the tablet and it wont void the warranty?

No, unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty, but rooting won't because you can easily unroot.

wait, so what is there to rejoice about then? I dont get what the OP is talking about in this thread

Ever since the tablet was released, some people haven't been able to get OTA updates on stock, locked tablets, and entering the serial number in devicetracker.asus.com resulted in a message that the serial number was invalid. A lot of these same people tried to unlock their tablets but got a network error. The problem was that their serial numbers were not listed in Asus' database.
The OP is rejoicing because the previously-undocumented serials have finally been added to Asus' database, so now the people having problems, of which the OP was one, are now able to get OTA updates and to unlock their tablets.
Rejoice!

I have called them about 5 times now. I explain I'm not getting OTA's at all because I don't want them to use the unlock tool as an excuse not to help me. They sometimes go as far as to tell me I'm up to date because I'm on ICS. I tell them my firmware version and they say "Oh that doesn't matter." I don't even know what to do now...

just be a little liar...
take as an excuse of inexistent problems with apps, that they close suddendly, that the system is not stable, and that you don't want to factory reset, then tell them that a friend of yours that had similar problem solved when he got the OTA update.
maybe this can help...

Mention the lines on the screen. Mention that someone called about c4okct SNs.
No need to lie. Just say that these issues were fixed with c4 tabs and its not right that your tab shouldn't be left out... that its somewhat sad that they don't have their tabs on record....

That's what I've been doing, I told them I had all the same problems as the c4 people and mine wasn't fixed because it's c3. They keep telling me to manually update. I mentioned wanting to unlock my bootloader once and I said I knew it wouldn't work if I couldn't get OTAs. He actually seemed to understand and scheduled me for a callback but the guy that called back was worthless

Is there anyone that knows about this update. I was doing my homework, and then it just popped up. Im normally not one who updates, I usually update right before the next update is released. But i know the Honeycomb is still buggy so i would be willing to update.

Verizon 2.3.5 officially released!

Verizon has started updating the tabs to 2.3.5 today. Probably will take a few days for everyone to get it though. Just thought I would share.
Edit: thanks to jason62082 we now have a link to download the update.zip! Enjoy everyone and be sure to thank Jason for pulling it from his tab and uploading it!

No, I dont have it yet. I work for them and just letting u know they started it today. I am patiently waiting for it now. Just wanted to let everyone know the good news. If u dont believe me, call in and ask. It was released today.
And btw, I have never pulled a zip and dont know how to, or I would once I get it. Sorry. Just wait for the ota or someone else to post it.

I can confirm this update. My Tab notified me about 10 minutes ago. Haven't updated yet because I don't feel like having to root it again. If someone could tell me how though, I will try to pull the .zip
EDIT: Never mind. It was a smaller update for 2.2....
Any proof
Any proof, like picture?
Anyone who had previously been using the "leaked" VZW GB rom try to update to this official one? Any differences noted or anticipated? Is there any point instead of sticking to the "leaked" ROM?
Other than unrooting, will this update screw anything up?
If I'm rooted can I still get this ota update?
I bypassed the verizon activation a few days ago with the volume up and down method and I am currently using my tab on wifi only. Will I get the update? If I do get it, will I have to bypass it again? Will the same method work?
Sent from my SCH-I800 using xda premium
I am not sure if you'll get it if not on Verizon's network. I am getting impatient though. The announcement I read said it was starting on the 1st but I still haven't seen it, nor has anyone else I know. Any of you guys got it yet??? Mine had the GB leak on it and I flashed back to stock Froyo just for this. I'm just hoping something I did didn't block me from getting it.
I can't get it yet either.

I'm over in the quail hollow area off Carmel. Funny. Small world. Anyway, I'm thinking of calling tech support and asking them about it.
Ask them if the update will screw up our rooted Tabs.
I'm sure it would as far as losing root, but they gave me the basic song and dance. Said it was staggered and may take a while for everyone to get it. Then he told me to go into the store and have it updated which isn't true. I work in the store and we have no way to update smartphones and tablets, only basic phones. It just seems strange that no one on this forum has received it. When I go back to work tomorrow I will check to see if it was pulled back or delayed for any reason.
Question, when it updates, does it just put an update.zip on the sd card? If so, then I will try to copy and post on here.
Edit: I have a sneaky suspicion that it was delayed for some reason. Check it out. It still says coming soon on the public page.

Yes, when the OTA update pop up shows up, that means you have an update.zip on the internal storage of your Tab. Use Root explorer or ES and navigate to /cache and you'll find the update.zip once you get the OTA notice. Then you can just upload that update.zip to any hosting site, and drop a link here for all to enjoy.

Redundancy of the OP's complaint aside, none of those posts suggest a potential solution to the problem. Does anyone have one? This all stems from a seemingly broken constant connect to Google, which results in most, or all, of the following symptoms:
White connection bars instead of green
Inability to connect with Gtalk
Auto-Sync with any Google service (gmail) disabled, despite check in settings
Someone suggested they were getting a push for an update, but there have been no details, and I'm not seeing anything. Aside from switching back to 2.3.3 or to CM9, is there anything else we can try?

Most Verizon reps seem to think that rooting tampers with hardware... I've been down that road with the Samsung Fascinate. I wasn't thrilled to say the least but I was still able to get a replacement since they couldn't prove that it was the reason why the phone failed. My patience for tech support of any kind is fairly thin due to me being an avid tech enthusiast...

Id be interested to see if the new phone has the same issues, I have flashed back to 2.3.3 multiple times and OTA'd back to 2.3.4 , each time the same problem, gtalk broke and service bars stay grey, and google sync never works unless I manually do it.
I called verizon today and I to have no use for verizon tech support I think each time I was more knowledgeable about my phone and its software/firmware then whoever I was speaking to.

Well, I guess from Asus you don't. I assume Asus thinks that people who unlock there tablet are gonna install a custom ROM on it and are thus not in need of official updates..
Mine wont unlock yet!!!

Well makes sense. But usually ROMs incorporate the updates.
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium
Yup indeed, so there is no real use anymore from getting official Asus updates after unlocking it, since custom roms will most likely include the updates taken from the official Asus/Google source code.
Nice! Thanks to everyone who signed the petition. Don't know if it helped or not but it couldn't have hurt.

What I think what would happen when you try to install an official update from Asus on an unlocked tablet, is that you likely get an error message that the device is not suitable to install the update.
But try it and find out..
Wow. I can't wait to use this. Unfortunately, due to hardware problems with my first two tablets, I think I'll wait a couple weeks to make sure this new one isn't defective. That should give devs some time to get some ROMs and a recovery going on this thing.
Well I know to get them you would have to go back to stock and then update.

Manual installation will be possible. Unlocked bootloader simply means that unsigned code can be applied to the device's otherwise locked sectors.

That is, the auto-update functionality will normally be disabled by the Custom-ROM designers in case of changes that could brick your device.
Think of it like a car with a locked engine room, and the "Audi"-factory has the key:
By unlocking the engine room, you can start replacing anything you'd like. If you then apply major changes, there are no guarantee that OEM-parts will function directly in your customized engine. You can however replace everything back to stock, and will then again be able to apply OEM-parts to update your engine.

Possible JB downgrade to ICS without unlock

Apparently over at the TF700 forum, users are able to downgrade from JB to ICS without unlocking the bootloader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925230
So far I haven't been able to do it...only able to get from 10.4.2.18 to 10.4.2.9. Anytime I want to flash a ICS from it'll say signature mismatch....I hope someone can find the right sequence for downgrade.
there is no way going back to ICS. Even with unlocking.

If you were able to do this, could you please post the exact sequence you performed (as you requested in your first post) so others can benefit?

It's extremely useful if it really worked. Could allow rooting without unlocking and also if you really were able to downgrade the bootloader to an ICS one, NVFlash files could be generated.
Were you able to do it? If so, please post how.
still can't install custom rom....useless to me sigh. i'm so disappointed.

You need to be unlocked to install a custom ROM. If the unlock tool is not working due presumably to a MAC issue, some have suggested contacting ASUS and telling them you are not able to get OTA updates due to the MAC being flashed improperly, and to avoid any mention of unlocking/rooting/etc. They might issue an RMA then.
But, could you please indicate how you did this? So far you have not provided any details.
i'll provide details when i'm ready to. i'm on the road and would like to use my laptop to type cuz of the formatting. do you know how to spoof the mac address? i tried using terminal+busybox but it's not working.

No, in reading various posts across the ASUS devices, the 3 scenarios that seemed to yield successful results were: 1) registering the serial # and waiting a few days, 2) having the unit RMAed to reflash the MAC, or 3) obtaining a new unit through a retail exchange.
well then, i hope someone figure out how to change the MAC address for many people's sake who can't unlock and don't want to go through the trouble to RMA/return/rebuy.

nvm i was able to spoof the mac address...but that didn't fool the unlocker. stupid asus...looks like i still need to RMA it to get this thing fixed. -__-

Any idea how much longer you are going to be on the road? Looks like several people are interested in this supposed ICS downgrade including myself.
