Hopefully this is the appropriate place. This may be a dead end but I thought I'd ask. EDIT: This probably belongs in the General section but I don't see a delete or move option.
I have a generic Chinese headunit in my car running Windows CE 6.0 with a very limited shell running on it. Is there a way to force it to close out of this or load another on the unit? My input options would be Micro-SD or USB drive via the USB host adapter. I can't even load programs other than whats built in except for the GPS software.

No offence jwoegerbauer, but I tried ceFFM on WinCe emulator and after correcting couple of Mortscript unclosed quote marks, I still got different Mortscript errors which I wasn't able to correct in a simple way. So I didn't dare to install it on my WinCE 6.0 Chinese GPS tablet at all. I also tried MioPocket Mini from here, it installed without problems on emulator. So I tried it also with the unit itself, but as it is still quite bloated and slow with heavy Mortscripts and also the interface probably needs some better graphics support, it's not very fluid. I ditched it and I am still using the original interface, which is fluid and through which after a very simple "hack" of replacing some exe files and redirecting them through Mortscripts to run my own programs from SD, I can basically start any program.
I suggest You first point to Your navigation path configurator (every Chinese unit should have one) to "desktop.exe" (You'll find it in gpspassion.com somewhere) and after running it You should be able to access the WinCE original interface and take it from there. Also before anything else, try to find out if it is possible to hard reset the device in case You get in trouble (probably not) and if it has a persistent registry (probably does), in which case You'll have to be VERY careful about modifying the registry. For example, my device has a custom shell, so if I would try to replace it with original shell from HKLM\init, it would brick my device as I have read others with the same device have "successfully" accomplished. Most safe would be to continue to use the original interface, maybe if You need some additional programs You could launch the "desktop.exe" any time from the navi shortcut and run the stuff from desktop.
Good luck.

Actually my goal is to play (downloaded) video in mkv format so I don't have to convert it in order to be recognized by my Head Unit. But in the end, my Head Unit can play mkv file, view office docs, play game and has a customizable menu.
Here what I do :
I'm using Chinese Head Unit which the GPS files are inside an SD card. Just try to remove your SD card safely and copy to a folder (let's say SDbackup) in your PC/laptop. Inside this folder, you will find *.ini file which specify the path to your GPS problem. Open this file. Mine (maplaunch.ini) is look like this :
[igo]
path= mobilenavigator\mobilenavigator.exe;
iconpath= mobilenavigator\igo8.ico;
showname= igo8;
Then search for a PORTABLE (no-need-to-install) shell menu or application launcher, I use GPS Menu. Copy that portable launcher/shell to your SDbackup folder while keeping the folder stucture the same. I have no info about this chine head unit, Therefore I use portable launcher so I dont have to install and taking chance to brick it.
Then edit the executable path in *.ini file above to point at the portable launcher *.exe. (Mine become path= my_gps_menu\gps_menu.exe. I cand do this since the wince only lock the IGO map folder. If it's also lock the path above , then copy the portable launcher files into the folder path (ie mobilenavigator) and rename the gps_menu.exe to mobilenavigator.exe.
Copy the SDbackup folder to a new SD card. Keep your original GPS's SD card as a backup.
Try this new SD card on your head unit. If it's boot up perfectly, then you can edit this launcher to display your existing GPS apps and other apps. "GPS menu" has include some apps like tcpmp video player -which can play mkv & subtitles, music player, document viewer, game etc.(I guess the last two just for showoff ). You can also 'unlock' (accessing the wince desktop) the Head Unit,
Good Luck! and Sorry for my english.
GPS menu (by PEZ and/or SHANEA)
GPS Menu you introduced here isn't a shell in its original sense, it's an application launcher . as you correctly stated.

Yes, "GPS Menu" is an application launcher.
If this thread starter simply wants to load another program in the Car's head Unit more importantly while Driving, probably all he needs are another GPS, media player and bluetooth apps - with custom GUI/large buttons and perhaps voice (to tell him that he did push the right button).
Maybe he thinks he needs another shell for this. While certainly a shell can do it, a launcher will do it too, That's why I wrote "shell menu/apps launcher".

I was using Pez GPS Menu. You can google it or try googling "Pez GPS Menu filecrop" (w/o quotes).
I said "was" because for months I've been using iphonetoday launcher taken from here http://code.google.com/p/iphonetoday/downloads/list.
Choose the PND/Pocket Navigation Device version.
However, this only a launcher, so if you want to play .mkv, .mp3 etc you need portable wince apps which bundled in GPS Menu.
Other option, you can use Wolf NCU : http://wolfncu.ru/ for launcher
Or mix it together, like I did. I use iphone today launcher which has icon for Wolf NCU
FYI:
Especially for use on devices with little RAM I recently have published MioPocket Mini 4.0 FV. It's made up on iPhoneToday engine.
Im looking at buying one of thesefor my wife car, do they work OK out of the box,? Is it easy to put on the maps for my country uk?
Thanks Joe

in order to mount the sd card from totalcommender in snapvue:
first go in vista and right click / proprieties/ share on the sd card icon or usb flash/ hdd. and allow share thraugt network
when done the acess path will be displayed
then go on snapvue, and start usbtool
once snapvue is linked open totalcommender and go to plugin / lan and click on add a new server
type the path of the device you want to mount (should be \\"nameofyourcomputer"\"letter of the drive you want to mount"
thats it you can acess sd card from snapvue!!!!!
I guess it's better to find a navigation software for vista and use the full resolution.
Or we find a solution for using the SD without vista.
Still dreaming.
WOW!!!!!!!!!
I think we found a (temporary?!?!?!) solution for seeing/using SD under WM!!!!!!
Thanks nicolas.maigne (still didn't try that trick, but willing to ASAP)
Well you can do that with the HD too. This is standard SMB sharing.

:, Ja,ja,ja......Thank you for the information, that hurts right now I do not have my Shift, he stopped momentarily at the office, but I'm desperate to be able to prove this "new treatment", if it really works, it will be a first and a great joy for those who, like me, and DAB lost power by working with real Mobile software from SnapVue, very good contribution, thank you. I'd assumed everyone was aware of this method.
It's still of little practical use as Vista has to be running for it to work.
True, but it gives us storage

OMG I made some sort of joke/assumption, which turns out to be true.
It is helpful in the way that we can use TomTom and other large space eating apps on our HTC Shift, something many of us, I assume did not really understand/know. I didn't !
In your car there's power, so no problem to have vista running.
Reading through the posts here and there I read about accessing your shift via the network, and seeing TomTom work in the YouTube clip, some gears started running, finally.
Hope it helps many !
nothing special
this method for acessing sd card or hd drive is only usefull to test capacities of the shift.
as vista is running the battery drain is huge, then there is no more interest in the longbattery life of snapvue. when vista is closed or in hibernation the usbtool can't run,
some months ago comnex said she was sure sd slot wath directly linked to the msn 7200 chip and she was able to see the sd slot from SPL..
sorry we need to be patient for REAL conexion with sd card.
With a charger we are fine

This is totally true of course, however, in your car, where you use navigation, there's most likely a charger.
Up till now, I, and I'd like to see how many others, simply overlooked this possibility of mounting a Vista share and thus be able to use favorite navi software like TT or Destinator.
There are a number of threads where people are looking for the "best" PC navigation software, possibly because they, just like me, did not know "one could do it"
I'm really joyed by this "discovery" as flight software like SeeYou Mobile and WinPilot will now also have enough space !

I prefer to use Vista with Sygic Drive or IGO8. It works perfectly, much better that any PDA because It uses its 3D graphic card. Or course I use a car charger....

maybe[OT]...
Me, like many of you posting here, just discovered the possibility to see a SD card under WM... That's why I was so amazed
For a moment, forget about TT and any other navigation program: I can easily understand that Vista side is much better than WM side for running any program.
Just think about the possibility to expand your memory in WM: datas, some programs... When you need them, they're there. I use my shift mostly linked to a powersource, so I donìt mind if I have to run Vista "underground".
Of course I'm waiting for cmonex and all others to solve the "direct-link-to-the-SD-card" problem.

Exactly - if Vista is booted, you might just as well use that for the most part. The reason I'd want to use apps on the WM side is to conserve battery life and having Vista booted rather defeats the object IMHO.
Of course, if you've got WM only apps that you need to use, it's a fine solution but it isn't anything new.

I can't use the \\shift-vista\sharename as a source for TomTom Maps.
The files of the Benelux map are shared as "storage card" and the files are accesible from Windows Mobile, however, TomTom doesn't pick up that they are there,
@nicolas.Maigne :
Can you post more info how you got the files detected by WinMO / TomTom ? Help very much appreciated.
Notice:
All patching, registry modifying and other unusual changes are only on your own risk. Do not blame anybody, if anything goes wrong.
New apps and tweaks are continuously added as soon as I pick them, test them and like them . Also other users have different app recommendations in other posts so don't forget to read whole thread.
Last update: 20.10.2009 (new apps and post rearrangements)
Freeware|System Related:
[Added] Advanced Configuration Tool - You can change almost every setting with this powerful app. However, some options might not work at all. (thanks to Dair's findings).
Better Light Sensor Control - Basic backlight offer no settings at all. Look in given thread to find, how to improve it. (thanks to tomv_cz's findings).
Change HW buttons function - If you want to use footprint and navi buttons for something else.
Disable SMS threading - Annoyed of that default SMS threading? This is cure.
Enable portrait/landscape switch - It enables possibility to switch between portrait and landscape mode on Iolite (Start-Settings-System-Screen). Then you can also assign "rotate screen" to your footprint/navi button. But Manila2D doesn't support landscape, so every time you go to home screen, it turns back to portrait mode.
FDCsoft Task Manager - Really good task manager, process viewer, service enabler/disabler, registry editor...
GfxBoost v1.1 - Some steroids for your Iolite's graphics and animations. Don't ask me, how it works, but it really does. Look in given thread for more info.
Hide SIM contacts - It does, what it says.
Manila2D Customizer - Using Manila2D (TF2D) and want to customize it?
MoDaCo RemoveSecurity - Removes that annoying "unsigned" notification while installing CABs.
[Added] Mortscript - MortScript interprets a (quite) simple batch language. If you know .bat files in DOS or shell scripts: it's something like that. Its focus is to remote control or launch other applications, not to write real applications.
.NET Compact Framework - Needed for running apps.
[Added] PIM Backup - A totally must have app for ROM cookers and experimenters. (thanks to Lokatho's findings).
Total Commander - App you really can't live without on WM.
SDKcerts - SDK Cert is a certificate used by the developers or programmers to sign the file/s you're using to make it/them eligible to be installed on the device. It's just like a consent from the developers for their OEM softwares to their users. To make the device accepts the file/s, the SDKCert have to be installed on the device for key matching purposes.
xdaShutdown - Want to switch off, soft reset, sleep your device? .NET 3.5 needed
Weather patch for Manila2D (TF2D) - Want some city, which is not in the default list? Look here to add it and below this post for patcher. (Thanks to N2A for original patcher for HTChome.dll).
Freeware|Visual Enhancements:
FingerKeyb by Giannis86 - For me it is better keyboard than from HTC, because it doesn't have buttons on the edge of display.
FingerSuite - Big thumbs and small menus? Why don't have the menus same as in TF3D.
M2D App Launcher - If you hate standart program list, try this. Nicely fits M2D skin.
SEX Battery Enhancer - For exact status of your battery on taskbar (SDKcerts needed)
[Added] TapTap Keyboard - Totally different way, how to write. It is quite unusual way, but if you get used to it, you will write much faster and with less mistakes.
Freeware|Internet and Messaging:
Facebook App - Official release from MS.
MoDaCo NoData - Disables GPRS/EDGE/etc. connections.
Skype for mobile - Skype for mobile devices. WiFi/3G needed for good connection.
Slick - IM with ICQ, Yahoo, AIM, MSN, Google, Jabber support. Really fast one.
Freeware|Multimedia:
[Added] Microfi Nitrogen - Very nice opensource touch-friendely music player with sleep timer and - unlike the one from HTC - sensitive volume control. (thanks to Dair's findings)
[Added] PlayPause - Control your favourite player via your headset button.
TCPMP 0.72 rc1 recompiled - If you want really good free multimedia player with subtitle support (you MUST use GDI for external subtitles). Look below for archive.
Freeware|Other Apps:
[Added] Marathon - GPS measure/tracking app.
mBarvian HTC Calculator - For me, better that included one.
[Added] MyMobiler - You can fully control your Iolite via PC. Executed on PC.
QuickMark 2D barcode reader - QR code reader. You must register to grab it.
Stopwatch - If you have need to measure your time .
Shareware|Unsorted (Please, buy these apps if you use them):
Core Player - Younger brother to TCPMP. However paid one.
CT Scheduler - Want to send messages at given time? Enable/disable BT, ActiveSync? This is what you need.
ilium software eWallet - If you have bad memory for all your passwords.
[Added] Manbolo Meon - Totally addictive brain game. Not expensive at all.
SBSH PhoneWeaver - Profile manager. Not free but good one. Includes touch profile switcher, which can be configured to soft buttons on Home tab in TF2D via M2DC.
[Added] SPB Minesweeper II - Was finding of mines your childhood dream? Well, this is far more safe way .
SPB Wireless Monitor - Monitors connections ifrom your device to the world.
[Added] WebCamera Plus - Your Iolite as webcam? Not a bad idea, isn't it.
Do you know some really good app, you can't live without? Just post your list in this thread.
Great topic! Just what I was looking for!
Thank you
Thanks for the post. Any advice on a good GPS program? I also heard there was freeware that auto rotates your keyboard/screen from portrait -> landscape when turned, as currently the keyboard doesn't do landscape?

It depends, for what you want GPS. If for car navigation, you may use builtin TomTom and buy maps. For hiking is best Garmin with its Topo maps. For geocaching exists many free programs where you can add your own maps (just search for geocaching here).
With screen rotation there is one flaw. Manila2D didn't support landscape, so every time you exit to home screen, it turns back to portrait mode. And Iolite doesn't have G-Sensor, therefore it will not rotate automatically.
Hey, nice list! I use lot of these too. I'd add three more apps for myself:
Advanced Config Tool - great utility for tweaking WM and HTC soft without need to edit registry manually (can handle some tweaks mentioned in 1st post like landscape mode, switching threaded SMS view, hiding SIM contacts etc)
GPS Cycle Computer - does what it says and more... Possibility to show a map image on background or to use OpenStreeMap tiles (read readme in installation folder). The best feature for me is the option to set the GPS run interval from "always on" to "run every 10 min" - great for power-savy logging my track and matching the GPS data with photos later.
Nitrogen player - very nice opensource touch-friendely music player (with sleep timer and - unlike the one from HTC - sensitive volume control)
EDIT: forgotten to mention that all of them are free
Can anyone make this thread sticky and delete the "thank you posts" as well as this one?
Thank you
PIM Backup - Great backup tool for us flashaholics
so far there is nothing to flash on the iolite
Thanks a lot for the great share
Weather is broken
The N2A Weather Patcher killed the Weather applet on my Iolite.
Now all it says is , "Cannot get weather data for the selected city".
I can't select any other city or anything else, since the menus are disabled
Before patching I made a backup of my Manila2D.exe, wich I have allready restored.
But Weatheer still dossen't work
Any workaround to restore to original?
Qtek8020User: I modified original N2A patcher to patch manila2D.exe, because original version patched htchome.dll only. Here is procedure, how to do that.
1) On device, I copy Manila2D.exe to some other folder (eg. Storage Card)
2) Download it to computer via AS/WMDC
3) Keep one copy somewhere for backup, place another one into patcher folder in same place as place_manila_2d_exe_here.txt and run n2a-patcher.bat
4) Patcher will make N2A Patched Manila2D EXE.cab file, which you transfer to device.
5) Disable Manila2D via settings, install CAB and then enable Manila2D again.
At this moment, only thing which is changed in Manila2D.exe is http address of update server, nothing else. Therefore it must work for already present cities in list, when internet connection is available (via AS/WMDC, Wifi or GPRS/EDGE/etc.). I tried this by myself about five times, so this procedure works with no problem at all.
If you want to add some city, which is NOT in the list, you must do this:
1) On device, copy HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml from /windows folder on your device to some other folder (eg. Storage Card)
2) Download it to your computer via AS/WMDC. Make backup of that file.
3) Go to accuweather.com and find city you want to add. For example, I want to add city "hradec kralove" in "czech republic". I get this code
Code:
http://www.accuweather.com/world-index-forecast.asp?partner=accuweather&locCode=EUR|CZ|EZ002|HRADEC%20KRALOVE|&u=1
. Important part is "EUR|CZ|EZ002|HRADEC%20KRALOVE" (%20 means simple space).
4) Open HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml and add this line <city name="Your City Name, Country Abbreviation" loca="CodeYouGotFromAccuweather" land="Your Country"/>. For example
<city name="Hradec Kralove, CZ" loca="EUR|CZ|EZ002|HRADEC KRALOVE" land="Czech Republic"/>.
5) Save HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml as UTF-8. It is read-only by default, so make proper changes.
6) Transfer it back to your device, eg. to Storage Card. Then put it back to /Windows folder
7) Restart Manila2D and viola, your custom city is in list and will be properly updated.
For adding cities in HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml also exists some app, but I can't remember how it is called.

I followed your method but it won't work. I assume that it something wrong within script... In tool folder unpatched.dll file doesn't exist. Here is output from n2a-patcher.bat (I did everything according to your instruction...)

If you have already patched Manila2D.exe, may be you can share it...
igor7: That's weird. I just tested it now and it works for me. From your log it looks like Manila2D.exe didn't copied into /tools/ subfolder. Did you extract ZIP archive correctly?
If yes, try to copy Manila2D.exe to /tools/ and rename it to unpatched.dll, so you wil have /tools/unpatched.dll. Then delete this lines from BAT file:
Code:
IF EXIST tools\unpatched.dll del tools\unpatched.dll
copy Manila2D.exe tools\unpatched.dll > NUL
IF EXIST *.cab del *.cab
, save it and run BAT again.
I can give you my patched Manila2D, but you might have different version and it can make you some troubles.
torrentonly: first of all big thanks for you help. I spend time on this, but it working now and I want share my experience.
1. In you first post on this page doesn't mention that Manila2D.exe should be copied into N2A-Patcher-Manila2D\tools folder and renamed to unpatched.exe, as you mentioned in your last post. By the same token it's not enough. By default Manila2D.exe have read only and system attributes, so no changes can be made to this file under this condition. Those attributes should be removed before running n2a-patcher.bat file, otherwise it not working.
2. And in additional, as you mentioned in your last post some lines should be removed from n2a-patcher.bat file. To be honest, I don't know how it works for you without doing this...
This line form script:
Code:
copy Manila2D.exe tools\unpatched.dll > NUL
can't work because it is impossible to copy file and rename it with same command "copy". In my case script return following error while it running:
Code:
Could Not Find C:\Documents and Settings\Igor\Desktop\N2A-Patcher-Manila2D\tools\unpatched.dll
The system cannot find the file specified.
Performing patch...
This happen even I copied Manila2D.exe into tools folder, renamed it to unpatched.dll, and removed read only and system attributes...
In the light of the aforesaid I did some corrections (improvments) to n2a-patcher.bat and now it works fine. I added the following to htchomeok session in this file:
Code:
:htchomeok
attrib -r -s Manila2D.exe
xcopy /h /k /f /v Manila2D.exe C:\N2A-Patcher-Manila2D\tools
attrib +r +s Manila2D.exe
cd C:\N2A-Patcher-Manila2D\tools
ren Manila2D.exe unpatched.dll
Now, to get it work you need to change a little procidure, in your first post in this page.
1. Download N2A-Patcher-Manila2D.zip file and extract it content to root of C drive on you computer. Should be like: C:\N2A-Patcher-Manila2D.
2. Copy Manila2D.exe from Windows folder of your device into C:\N2A-Patcher-Manila2D folder using Active Synch.
3. Run n2a-patcher.bat file. If everything is OK you should see script window like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Also I attached to this message new archive with corrected script.
Best regards,
Igor.
igor7: Nice finding *THUMBS UP*. On my laptop with Vista x86, I can copy and rename at the same time. Therefore script I attached is working for me. Maybe it is different for another OS like 2k, XP. Or maybe there are some problems with attributes.
You don't need to place Manila2D.exe into /tools/ folder and rename it. BAT file should make it automatically, but as I wrote, it might work different way on different OSs.
torrentonly: I tried to run n2a-patcher.bat from first thread in this forum on my laptop with Vista x86 and it doesn’t work... On Windows XP and Windows Vista bat files executed line by line. So if some line had errors script will not work.
Here what I did:
1 I downloaded N2A-Patcher-Manila2D.zip (1.23 MB, 66 views) and extract it on desktop of my laptop.
2. I copied Manila2D.exe from Iolite and place it into patcher folder in same place as "place_manila_2d_exe_here.txt". Then I executed n2a-patcher.bat. And...It not work! Here is screenshot:
I wrote all of this not for something... May be code in script, that you used is different from this one... It can confuse other people.

SlidingAlbums 2.0
WARNING: BEFORE USING IT, PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY THIS ENTIRE POST. IF YOU THINK THAT THIS PROGRAM IS NOT WORKIN FOR YOU - YOU'RE TOO STUPID TO USE IT OR... IT MAY BE MY FAULT
This small app (or maybe plugin?) is developed for everyone, who like to have a fast access to music albums stored on the memory card. Instead of launching a player, browsing it's library for an album and playing it, you can play any album directly from the Sliding Panel.
Changes made from version 1.1
-database (SA2 is using MS SQL Compact Server 3.5 to store music files data)
-skins (I've implemented a fully skin support which can customize your titanium panel with SA2. It supports live preview of any skin. You can also create new skins if you like)
-updater (you can check for update at program startup (its optional) and check for testing versions if I create one. SA2 will download an update, unpack and install it automatically. After that SA2 will automatically run the new updated version and show a changelog in few languages - but I will write it only in english and polish, other languages I don't know so...)
-languages (SA2 supports lang packs. You can also translate it by yourself - it's not a problem Current languages are: English, German, Polish, Romanian and Russian)
-addons installer (SA2 have a new nice feature. Files with *.slidaddon extension are SA2 addons. If you have downloaded an addon, just copy it to your device and run it by clicking on it. Addon should be installed automatically.)
-playlist plugins (I've added asx and m3u plugins for creating playlists but in a ner future maybe a new plugin will be included. For now, it cannot be developed by someone else.)
-album path (finally you can change the path to your music files. By default it's set to Storage Card\Music but you can change it to another path.)
-bypass titanium limit to 30 pages per panel (I don't know why titanium allows only to display 30 pages... but I've made a simple trich to avoid that. If you slide to the last album you'll see under Right SK a 'Next' option. It will change pages to next 30 albums and so on. The first page from over 30 albums will have a 'Previous' option to go back. This technique supports over 4000 albums so don't worry )
-support for additional players (by modifying the Players.ini file you can add additional players to SA2. But there's one important thing - the new player must support an avalible playlist format. So if SA2 has asx and m3u your player should support it)
-progress stripe (you can see progress of creating database, creating playlists files or applying new skin)
Changes made from version 1.0:
-Support for WM6.5 (only Titanium)
-album limit to 30 albums
-dynamic preview
Your music files should be stored like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
for example:
If you had sorted your folders like that, you can run my app.
For now, SlidingAlbums supports Windows Media Player, Pocket Player, Core Player and TCPMP.
This movie show how it works:
Installation on storage card is supported to.
Additional skins you can download from here.
Requirements:
- WM6.5 Professional
- SQL Compact Server 3.5
- .NET CF 3.5
- Unlocked device (with SDA Application Unlock, AppUnlock.cab or any similar app)
Installation process:
-install .NET Framework 3.5 and SQL Compact Server 3.5
-install SlidingAlbums
-make sure if your music file structure is good
-run SA2 and change your music path (if it's other than Storage Card\Music)
-choose your skin in the Skins menu and apply it
-update the database
-create playlists (it will also create new pages in SA panel in titanium)
Thanks to:
- Marek Butrowski (testing, testing and once again.... help)
- s3mtex (Romanian translation)
- Przemysław Barczyszyn (graphics for two skins)
- Marta Stolarek (English translation)

Hi Andrew excelent app; your app works too in WM6.5 professional?
If you can add support for other players like S2P or Nitrogen will be excelent.
The main exe works (you can run it) on WM6.5 Pro but as I don't know how to add a new panel to Titanium, it's useless....
I'm searching how to do it, and when it succeed, I'll update to a newer version.
The main problem is, that I don't have any WM6.5 Pro device (only my old Samsung SGH-i600 with WM6.1 Standard by NOKser).
Other players will be added as soon as the newer version will work on Pro systems

That's what I'm looking for! - I didn't know, that Titanium plugin needs a PLG file, and that's all I must add but I must write it myself, because my own installer can add a new panel under the selected from list On the movie, you can see, that I've chosen CMusic, and under that was added SlidingAlbums.
On this weekend I hope that I'll finish it :]
Thanks!

Hi looks excelent!!!!!!!!
If you need some help with the layout maybe I could help you.
In this zip exist a plg made for appstar for have the item like you want, only you have to replace some items name.
Thank's but I've made a complete plg file for all resolutions so this one is not necessary.
Actual, after cab installation, you can choose where SlidingAlbums will be added (like for WM Std). All works fine. Other plug-ins don't have this function :]
Hi AndrewSpec.
I´m waiting for your Titanium version of this PlugIn, Will be awesone.
But, I have one question, what do you need to support other music players?
Thanks in advance.
PS:Are you planning to adapt your Brighter panel to titanium too? will be great.

If you wanna help me with it, fine, I appreciate that
I need to know the exactly path to the exe file of the player with the name of that exe (on main memory and on storage card), next I'll need to know, what kind of playlist the player supports. Check if a player can play m3u, asx etc and send me a sample playlist.

Brightner supports only SGH-i600 and it's very hard to add support for other devices without having them....I'll try someday to add this to Titanium but it'll be a very long period of time while Brightner will support other devices. For now, when Brightner detects a device which is not compatible, it won't run but it'll show a guide and then the owner must follow these steps to generete a report for me, and finally when I get the report, I can add support for this device. But for now, Brightner is avalible for poland users (english is not supported (yet ))

Hi Andrew:
Nitrogen:
EXE Path: Main memory: Program Files\Nitrogen\nitrogen.exe
Storage card: \Storage Card\Program Files\Nitrogen\nitrogen.exe
Playlist: Use his own format of playlist extension .npl (the developer says in the next release use other format like m3u too)-I rename the npl to txt and view 2 initial estrange character and the next are the list of mp3.
S2P:
EXE Path: Main Memory: Program Files\S2P\S2P.exe
Storage Card: The installer doesn´t allow to install in Storage card, but some people do that manually to \Storage Card\Program Files\S2P\S2P.exe
Playlist: Don´t use a playlist format, but use the same order of the mp3 like you recommend in your first post.
For example \Storage Card\Music\(Artist name)\(Album Name)\(Song Name).mp3
HTC Audio Manager:(just in case you wanted)
EXE Path: Main Memory: \Windows\Audiomanager.exe
Storage card: don´t supported (I think)
Playlist: Use an archive without extension. I rename to txt and show the list of mp3.
So here's the new version - 1.1
Finally, it supports Titanium in all resolutions:
VGA
QVGA
WQVGA
WVGA
Square
Also, I've fixed a bug that was causing SlidingAlbums panel disappearing. If you had over 30 albums, system couldn't handle so long string in the registry. For now, SlidingAlbums adds only 30 albums.
Order preview is now generated dynamically so it decreased the cab size.
Download at first post.

Also check how many pages are created in the registry - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CHome\SlidingAlbums
Andrew I've got some questions.
1. Is there any reg key to add new player? I'm using coreplayer. Anyway I give you the path.
CorePlayer
EXE Path: Main memory: \Program Files\CorePlayer\player.exe
Storage card: \Storage Card\Program Files\CorePlayer\player.exe
2. I have all my songs named like (track number).(track name) for example:
01.My way.mp3. So SlidingAlbums won't recognize my songs. Is there any reg key that could change it or could you add support for dot "." separator in next release?

There aren't any keys to add new players.
CorePlayer is supported but i thought that the file name is PLAYER.EXE. So it's case sensitive. Try to rename it to big letters I'll fix it on the next version.

No playlists were created in storage card/music.
In the registry there are only condensed page and page1 (configuration).
I don't know where I can locate this error. I've got not enough information. Maybe one of the folders from Music has a irregular name or a special character?

No, i have checked all folders, subfolders and music, and renamed some subfolders and music who had some characters in them, but still the same error for me.
I bought a Chinese DVD GPS head unit for my car running Windows CE 6.0. The unit has every feature under the sun and works remarkably well, much better than I had thought it would.
There are 2 main things which annoys me. The first is the media player playing music (SD or USB). There is no random/shuffle function, and when you have thousands of songs and it takes 2 - 3 seconds to skip to the next one, it gets annoying really quick! The second is also related to the media player. It plays a very limited number of video formats (avi, 3gp).
I figure the easiest way is to replace the media player with a better one (which I'm sure exists for CE 6).
So my question is can this be done? If so where do I start? How can I access CE operating system/firmware on the unit? It has a USB port, but that acts as a host so you can plug flash drives and dongles into it.
Has anyone played with these types of devices?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

AFAIK there is no third party player especially written for CE 6.0 around. All players written for CE are years old, i.e. outdated. I'm pretty sure your AIO doesn't use a rudimentary CE-player.

If really added by OEM to CE 6.0, the Windows Media Player control is built on top of Microsoft DirectShow. Consequently, the DirectShow codecs included in the OS design determine the exact list of media formats that the Windows Media Player control can play. OK. So it looks like I can't get it to play other codecs easily, that's fine. How about the other issue? Is there a way to replace the media player that the unit is using to another one which has a random/shuffle function? (Assuming I can find a media player with a random function)
Your device has an SD-card slot, correct? If so and if OEM implemented an SD-Autorun feature - means at boottime a specific named file located on SD-card will be processed, then you can "abuse" this SD-Autorun feature to modify the WinCE portion of your unit according to your needs. Most people do so using MortScript herefore

Yes my unit has 2 micro SD card slots. 1 is used for music, 1 is used for the GPS navigation. Interestingly there seems to be 2 different subsystems running on the unit. The GPS part acutally has a media player and IE which seems to only see 1 SD, and the music system which only sees the other SD card.
What is the easiest way to check if either has an autorun feature?

Then you alternatively might try: Put any WinCE-executable (currently recommended TotalCommander for CE6.0 - google for it) you want to run onto this SD-card and make unit's GPSPath and/or NaviPath point to it.

Update: It's a long story, but I'll give the short version.
I found out MioPocket which was supposed to turn my WCE GPS device into a fully functional unit ... Well it broke my WCE. Luckily my unit seems to have 2 units in it. 1 is the radio/dvd/bt/sd/usb etc, and the other is a WCE unit for the GPS. The actual radio still worked fine, but the WCE wouldn't load.
After a few days talking with the supplier in China, he sent me the recovery files. I put the recover file into the SD card and it flashed the WCE and it's back to normal.
So I'm not going to touch it anymore. Because even if I was able to get a CE media player working, the system doesn't actually use CE to play music. So I'll just have to live with my built in media player without random/shuffle function.

Do you still have the recovery files? Is there any chance you could upload these for us somewhere. It seems to me that this is the way for you to add/alter the software on the system?

Reviving this thread.
How do I run or reflash the unit? Do I just put this on the micro sd and it will auto run when I turn on the head unit?
Actually the problem is more on the GPS part of my head unit. I also have 2 micro sd card slots (1 for music and the other for gps). I was able to use the navi before but it suddenly stopped working (I am using Papago X8). Now I don't know if I should reflash Win CE or get another compatible gps software.
Thanks!
please if anyone could help i also would like to know how to access wince on these Chinese head units so that i can modify the gui.

Try this method:
http://www.austech.info/gps/84958-gps-ce-6-0-rescue-disk.html
Accessing the Windows O/S should be pretty straight forward on most of these units. You should be able to find in the unit settings a setting that allows you to point to the GPS software location. Instead of the gps software, download Total commander (google it) for windows CE, put it on your sd card, and then point the gps software link to total commander. Then press the gps button and total commander will pop up. This will give you access to the Win CE file system.

I realize this is an extremely old post but I'm hoping I can still get help. I have tried to download Total Commander but they only offer it as a windows xp install file that uses active sync to load it into the unit or as cab files. Neither of which I can put on an sd card and run from my windows ce 6 unit. Is there a way to just get the install files on an sd card from the computer?
Thanks

UPDATE: Hey folks, navigation has been figured out. Thank you to everyone who helped and an especially big thank you to the folks in Russia who made it mostly possible!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-mobile/general/myford-touch-navigation-activation-t3368080
There was a thread on this topic a while back and has since been closed. Pending certain developments it has become prudent to open a new thread to discuss these new directions.
The last thread can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-mobile/general/hacking-myford-touch-getting-closer-t2938321
First of all, I want to start this thread by saying this is NOT intended to start fights! One user, jmr061, has figured it all out and currently charges money through his own private website and business in the Wisconsin area. I don't want to hear anything about putting anyone out of business. His business is his own. Its fine if you feel that way but this thread isn't the place to discuss it. He is also the only one thus far who has successfully plumbed the workings of MFT entirely and I have nothing but respect for him. He also happens to be a very helpful poster on many Ford enthusiast websites across the net and doesn't deserve any chastising of any kind. Keep it clean!
Current option for adding Navigation to MFT in a non-Nav equipped vehicle:
Replacing the APIM with a Nav enabled one. The part numbers are different and a few versions exist. To successfully add the new APIM you must match the correct options. By not getting the proper APIM you will very likely lose features such as the backup camera, etc.. To properly check which car came with what options you will need to use Ford Etis. Ford Etis can be found Here. Options that are not enabled by the factory show as "Less XXX" where XXX represents the option. For example, a car without Nav will read "Less Navigation". Similarly, a car with Nav will read "With Navigation". You must match all options.
There are a few downsides to this procedure. First of all, the obvious is finding an APIM that is correctly configured for your car. Secondly you will need to rip the dash apart. It isn't particularly difficult depending on your model but it can lead to a few setbacks. A software update from Ford installed on a USB drive can also remove the nav. I'll get into this later down below. The expense is also a factor as you can rarely get the units for less than a few hundred. Certain sites online sell Nav enabled APIMs for over a thousand or more.
You will also need to purchase a navigation SD card separately. At the time of writing (Feb 2016) the A7 card is newest for North America.
I can independently confirm this method does work. This is my 2013 Ford Fusion SE that was equipped with MFT and no Nav.

What I believe we need to do to unlock Navigation in our MFT systems
The secret to enabling features is going to be in the As Built Data. ABD. It seems as though all MFT cars get the same APIM and what differentiates the features is the ABD. The ABD tells the car which features were purchased and which to be enabled. ABD is not plain text, it exists as bits. Comparing the ABD of cars with Nav vs cars without Nav should teach us what modifications we need to make. The ABD is NOT easy to access or change and will likely involve using proprietary or expensive software to do so. Ford VCM2 and IDS are a guarantee. ABD is not unique to the APIM, in fact its used in many modules on the car. We are unable to manually change values on the APIM ABD.
We should be able to accomplish this without opening the dash up as the solution is within the software, not the hardware.
I found a tool for the Ford Focus that will retrieve ABD and edit it. http://ford.xtlt.ru/
Things to keep in mind:
- Updates for MFT from Ford.com will remove Nav from even a Nav enabled APIM. As happened to me. Probably has to do with the ABD (as stated above).
-It seems as though the update files given to a car with Nav are identical to the update files given to a car without Nav. I could be wrong but my testing of this is very limited. I used the VIN from my car to create an account and download the latest version of the software then I used the VIN from a Nav enabled car and created a separate account and downloaded the latest software. The file name, size, and hash are the same. It is unknown (at least by me) at this time if this is the same across the board. Its possible (and likely) the file for the Fusion will differ from the file for say an Escape.
- A downstream USB port exists on the rear of the APIM. Connectivity achieved by use of a Ford Rotunda OTC Sync Generation 2 Programming Cable.
- Interestingly enough it seems that all Nav enabled APIMs use the same Navigation license.
- Many (possibly most) APIMs are all loaded with the Navigation apps already and simply lack the license. Some users on other forums have sucessfully added the license (again the same on all) but it won't magically run. Probably ABD related as well.
- Modifying the Zip files for the update install will break the signature and verification used by the MFT and will NOT install.
- The MFT system is custom designed from the ground up. No standard file structure exists in other systems.
- In the old thread a user jsalzman took his APIM apart. He took highly detailed pictures. They can be found Here. Thank you!
- Ford IDS cannot be used to change ABD on APIM for MFT.
- It seems jmr061 figured it all out around March 2015. Some of his post history on other forums gives us many clues. Please don't flame him.

I highly doubt it. You need 2 cars with same configuration, one having navigation. Then dump the ABD data, and find the byte that enables nav, change it together with the checksum. Afterwards, you will need Ford IDS and Oasis to do a reinstall on the module, and swap the ABD file. Well, this is just my guess, but for sure additional equipment and paid access to Ford tools is required.
I've actually found today a few sites in Russian with people who have figured it out. The problem is the translations.
From google translate I got this (I know it sounds funny but I promise I didn't change any of it lol)
Comrades! The revolution, the necessity of which for so long asserted Bolsheviks accomplished!)))
And now in order. The procedure consists of the following stages:
- Take the internal configuration APIM car navigation or read the current, turn it NAVIGATION Application and fill back.
- Make the substitution on the VIN that navigation from the factory
- Connect IDS + FORDTECHSERVICE + OASIS and reinstalling the module as a new SYNC - voila ... a huge thank you to Nicholas Trainer_F for what IDS-tion of the event was made possible ...
Well, just so long as: firmware English, displaying maps in Russian, menus and voice guidance in English. Restayl with the advent of the ITF and the Russian navigation think maybe it will be possible to do in Russian.

Crazy you posted this as I been working on this for the last few weeks after that last forum died out.
You stated everything I figured out as well. I have thoroughly disassembled all the update files and found some interesting clues/ideas on a way in through the software side.
For the hardware side I have a good idea how it all works. You can use this to edit as built data w w w ucdsys.ru
The APIM as built data is programmed to the hardware and will tell the software what is enabled and what is not (Nav, backup cam) If you know the Hex values for the as built data and use a third party programming tool you can enable Nav/backup camera through the CAN. There is some more steps for the Nav going this route. You can get the ABD from ford here w w w motorcraftservice.com/AsBuilt and compare a similar year/model car with NAV/backup camera and one without to figure out the hex values.
What I have found out on the software side of things:
myfordtouch runs Windows CE/EDB databases via some sqllite commands then what we all see on the screen is flash (.swf). The update towards the end when it puts the .swf files in does a integrityfilescheck() which verifies the SHA256 hash on these .swf I suspect only. Nothing we can do on the SHA256 check.
But based on what I was able to dissemble from the update files on SYNCGen2_4.32.14122 file versions. The first thing it runs is the 14D546-EE.cab which saves an XML file on the thumb drive this will list your vin #, part #'s, processes running, space on TFAT,RAM,ROM. ect ect. This one is interesting to note the running .exe’s
Before the target images are applied, it appears to save “Registry settings” 14D546-AKB talks about gathering current language and then
“SOFTWARE\Ford\DataManager\gns\system”
“POPUP” NavUnlocked regkey = ‘%d’”
NavUnlocked
SOFTWARE\Ford\DataManager\gns\ApplicationSettings
Near the end of the update for the image files 14D546-AGB it has:
“SOFTWARE\Ford\DataManager\gns\system”
NavUnlocked
SOFTWARE\Ford\DataManager\gns\ApplicationSettings
“%S() Success restoring Nav unlock registry values.
LicenseCount
DPS indicates Navigation has not been unlocked! Exit.
I have created a program for Windows CE to retrieve the registry info to a text file on the USB drive. I was able to create the CAB and run the CAB, but after about 10 seconds it errors out with “Invalid or Unsigned File” my cab is unsigned I figured it wasn’t going to be this easy. Looking at the update files the cab is signed by “Ford Motor Company Internal SYNCGEN2 Issuing CA” and issued to: “Sync Dynamic Code Signing Gen2 A4” inside the cab the .999 file that does all the work is signed by “Microsoft Test Software Publish Certificate” The SYNCGGEN2 is a SHA1 signature hash algorithm. The Microsoft one uses a MD5 hash algorithm and appears to be some random certificate built into the platform builder that says do not use for publishing. I am working on a few methods to get around the signed file. I may try loading the code into a random .jpg or image file and upload it to the background area and in theory once uploaded and clicked on should run the code. Simple Trojan horse.
Code in the Appconsole.swf as noted in the prior thread that determines if NAV should be displayed in the right corner of the screen or if Information should be.
SyncUtilLin797staticfunctionIsNavSystemInstalled()
staticfunctionIsNavSystemInstalled()
{
var_loc1_=false;
if(SyncConst.UseNavOverride)
{
SyncBaseClass.swarning(SyncUtil.sCN,"GetNavSystemStatusverriding\'IsNavInstalled\'flagtotrue,sinceSyncConst.UseNavOverrideisset.");
_loc1_=true;
}
elseif(Plugins.DataManager)
{
var_loc4_=SyncUtil.GetDMNumber("InboundDiag.NavAppEnabled",1);
var_loc2_=SyncUtil.GetDMNumber("ApplicationSettings.NavUnlocked",0);
var_loc3_=SyncUtil.GetDMNumber("Provisioning.NavInstalled",0);
_loc1_=Boolean(_loc4_==1&&_loc2_==1&&_loc3_==1);
}
else
{
_loc1_=false;
}
SyncConst.IsNavInstalled=_loc1_;
return_loc1_;
}
Definitely on the right track. I got a second Nav enabled APIM today because I wrecked my last one. I carelessly loaded the wrong update file when I was playing around and used the official ford update (not mine which I never expected to work anyways) which disabled Nav. I've yet to get around the signature issues.
Let me know if you need anything off this APIM.
I bought a used NAV enabled APIM as well from w w w.lkqonline.com was only $125+ $12 shipping. It works for my 2013 Fusion, but I have the Fusion Energi and it threw an error (Check engine DTC). I didn't see any reports of other people posting DTC errors when they swapped out non-nav APIM's with nav APIM's from other vehicles. Could be a Hybrid/Energi only problem since there is an additional menu on those cars in myfordtouch.
I am trying a few idea's on the signature issue still. I also thought about taking the NAND flash off the circuit board, but I don't know if I want to spend the money to buy another APIM just to take it apart.
Hey all I just bought a 2013 Ford Fusion w/ MFT. Is it safe to update MFT or will that decrease the chance of this project working when it comes to be?

Super Jay,
I am currently on version 3.7.11 (SYNCGen2_4.32.14122) the newest is one up 3.8 (SYNCGen2 V38 15128 updatepackage NA Rev1). I have not looked at the newest version 3.8 yet but I can confirm the update 3.7.11 released 2014 is still vulnerable to the Microsoft Security Vulnerability (MS13-098) Even though this security update was in 12/2013. / 7/2014
“The security update addresses the vulnerability by modifying how the WinVerifyTrust function handles Windows Authenticode signature verification for portable executable files.”
I am able to successfully add additional code to the .999 file without affecting the digital signature. The problem is in order to add the data to the .999 file you have to unpack the .cab file so even though I can get the code in the .999 file and it remain a valid digital signature, I am struggling on repacking the .cab in order to get a valid signature now for the “Ford Motor Company Internal SYNCGEN2 Issuing CA”.
So I am working on just adding the extra code to the .cab file. I can add the code to the cab file without breaking the signature it is just more difficult to understand the .cab hex layout in terms of the format/headers/compression compared to a PE file.
Even if someone is able to get full access to the sync system doesn’t mean you can just drop an android image in, problem solved. The android image would require a lot of customization to make it all work. I am just looking to see if I can get in and if there is a simple way to activate navigation once in without having to modify the hardware/As built data. If successful then this would open up other possible areas like adding more functions or apps.
Thanks for the reply Seadiel,
I should have some free time tomorrow to work on this. I'll try and see if the latest update is still vulnerable. If there's a more productive way for me to help out please let me know.
Edit: Removed unnecessary quote
Following this thread...
I'm willing to buy navigation SD cards but Ford is not even giving me the option to open (purchase) Navi functionality!
Just an update, I am still messing around with this on my free time. I have a few projects with this going on. I am still working on the added code to the cab file using the (Microsoft Security Vulnerability (MS13-098)). Takes a while to learn hex/COFF structures. I attached the PE file format structure & how it relates to the Authenticode signature format. Crazy you can still add a ton of extra code to a file without breaking a checksum/digital signature.
I been playing around with “BadUSB” that exploits the USB Phison PS2251-03 (2303) controller. I am still working on the firmware to tailor it towards windows ce/myfordtouch.
I will post the instructions soon on how to enable Navigation/backup camera via the hardware/CAN route, since the software side is more difficult.

I had the same situation. Bricked the NAV when installed the last SYNC update. I could see the license on the MFT but NAV was no longer functional. Now I need to figure out how to enable the backup camera into this APIM. I lost mine when swapped for NAV.

Dr3X,
Thanks for the files. I just noticed EA5T-14D544-AD.zip is not digital signed nor is the .sec file. I am assuming you used this and it worked? I will have to look at that .sec some more, I never really looked at it since it is a 2GB file uncompressed, but if the system will allow that file with no digital signature that is interesting.
Here is the NAV only pieces I used to fix mine. If you already have the same code level and try to install the full package it will stop because is the same level of code. But with a install file with only the missing pieces it will go thru. After the install is finished then do a master reset and you should have that APIM back to nav again.

When I right click the .zip files I don't see a digital signature tab, I also ran the zip files through sigcheck and it says it is unsigned. There is only one .zip file that does not contain a digital signed .CAB file in it. That is the .sec file found in EA5T-14D544-AD.zip or EA5T-14D544-AC*.zip (Depending on sync upload files/version you have)
Edit: I ran the .sec file through strings.exe looking at the Unicode text in the file and find it interesting as it talks about like there is a windows desktop there with internet explore, FTP, offline mode/this page is secure/you will be redirected ect ect. I attached a screen capture of a portion of the print out. The file is 2gb so I only printed about 10mb in a command console.

What car do you have?
I have ford focus mk3 and Focccus is good for it.
If you have other ford probably Forscan is for you. If you have focus mk3.5 or mondeo mk4 then probably only ucds cable is ok (from russia).
There is also IDS, but it is expensive.
You could find someone with proper cable and knowledge in your area.
I could help with Focccus as I use it.
