Android System Update?? VZW 7.7 Tab. What is it? - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

Just got a notification that there is a system update for my 7.7 LTE. Anyone have any clue what it is? ICS?! Probably not. Anyone else get it?

26.2MB doesn't seem too promising. But I don't see any information on VZW's website either.

I just got this as well. I assume updating it to whatever it is will Bork my root and recovery?

That's what I'm afraid of as well. Almost seems worth it to see if it is ICS.

I doubt its Ics. I'm going to upgrade

Me too. Let me know though.

I got this earlier and it failed on install. Like has been said at 26.2MB I seriously doubt it's ICS.

Tab restarted and it showed the android icon. A status bar went like a quarter of the way until it showed the android with an exclamation point and froze. I freaked out and held power to shut it down. It booted to cwm and I restarted.
Not sure if it even completed the update at all.

I took the RED pill. SuperSU seems to be disabled, probably root too...
EDIT: Cleaned up SuperSU, rerooted, installed Superuser and all is well.
WHEW!

After update on mine, Still Android 3.2
Build is now FD01
Mine was not rooted before update

Maybe it's a test run for the ICS update...

Damn. I just got that message too and said "go" because I have root with backup (ota rootkeeper) and CWM so I thought let's see but all it did was reboot *into CWM!!* and gave me some error, checksum mismatch or whatever. Rebooted and all is still untouched "old" version.
Now system/about says no update available. How can I manually install this? I think it's a new modem and hope it is and that it will finally fix the horrid 4G reception issues. My Droid Razr gets SOOO much better signal in the same area.
Does anyone by chance have a clean, fresh stock install plus this update and can pull me a CWM nandroid backup ?

Here is what the update is, and no its NOT ICS, sorry. Please read

Nope
Mine was updated yesterday and i don't see a huge difference before and after

"Biggest" change appears to be IPv6 support. I care (I'm all IPv6-native at home), most probably won't.

Will I lose root?
Has anyone tested whether we will lose root by upgrading? And if so does the root.zip work to get it back?
Given what's at stake (IPv6 functionality), I don't think I care whether I do it or not, I just want it to stop asking me.

Yes I lost root but re-rooted with .zip just fine

I applied this OTA last night. Since then, I'm seeing much poorer data speeds: Previously had pretty solid LTE speeds, now I'm lucky to exceed 500-1000kbps down.
Does anyone know if the previous i815 ROM / previous radio file is available online to flash via desktop Odin? (I've searched but didn't find anything but a nandroid file -- I'm not rooted, so don't have CWM.)

Interesting. I'll install it when I get my phone today and see if it breaks root.
Just checked the update on phone it just give a application update for Twitter nothing else at the moment... Checked my wife's non rooted shift and has the same Twitter update nothing else that there Twitter account says...
It's just another basic HTC security update just like the last one...But I did hear HTC patched misc.img partition on the G2 so be carefull about what security patches you update to because it could break root if you have s-on and stock HTC recovery.
Has anyone actually been able to initiate this update yet? I want to pull the .zip from the SD card without installing it to see what's inside and whether or not it can be made into a patch for a rooted 2.3.3 without too much trouble (since I'm an idiot and I want to run the phone stock, save for root).

Anyway, this seems to be a false promise from Sprint for me since I keep trying to update over 3G and WiFi and I'm not getting anything. My Shift is still on 2.76.651.6 with the Twitter update that came out a few weeks ago, but no update to this new 2.77.651.3 version for me as of yet.

I assume you are running a "custom" recovery (clockwork)? This is why it failed. Only way to install will be to flash back to stock recovery as someone above mentioned. Probably not even worth the trouble.

Starting to push OTA 4.4 again?

Got my update alert this afternoon. Looks like they started pushing 4.4 again to start the week off. Anyone else get one?
Despite the fact I really really want the better camera settings I'm gonna hold off to preserve my LTE on T-Mobile......well for as long as I can at least before the pressure gives in. Or they get the radio problems in 4.4 fixed. If that ever happens.
Hope everyone has good luck with it if they get it.

I've updated to 4.4 in December and the entitlement hack is no longer working. Prior to the update I was rooted with the initial MotoRoot and modified Entitlment Check value to enable free tethering, then unrooted and removed MotoRoot. Big red finally caught up with us and resets the Entitlement Check value with the 4.4 update.

I'm assuming you're rooted on 4.2.2. If so then yes, you MUST unroot to avoid a bootloop. Best way is to FXZ with HouseOfMoto to restore stock 4.2.2. You will not lose 'write protection disabled'.
Then follow these steps that will allow you to keep root through the 4.4 update process:

I was just now able to pull it by checking system updates.

This just confirms that we WONT be getting an update any time soon to 4.4.
Both Samsung and ATT have some sort of BS going on. Probably something with the additional bloatware not working with 4.4 and is the reason why they have not released 4.4 to the public.
This type of BS may push me over the edge with both Samsung and ATT.
Samsung needs to pull an Apple and not allow any carriers to add junk to their phones, thats one thing I respect about Apple.

Not sure my phone can live though an update to Nougat. It took 6 months before Google fixed the random reboots on MM (PG1 was the first really stable ROM). PH1 runs fine, just keep the security updates coming a while longer.

No. You have to be on the official unrooted and completely unmodified stock rom with stock recovery for it to work.
Can someone upload this?
Where did you get hotspot mod from? I didn't find any PG1 hotspot mod. I am running PG1 stock debloated rom by saintz.

The battery life on this particular update is horrible. PG1 was the best update till date by Samsung on Marshmallow.
For guys on PG1, my suggestion would be not to update to PH4.
Also, PG1 has the best signal reception & voice quality.
