[Q] Silverstar Droid/Milestone X MB809 2.2.2 - SBF to Verizon firmware? - Droid X General

I have a friend that moved from the Midwest with Silverstar Wireless (http://www.silverstarwireless.com/)
He got a contract on Verizon, but got a crappy Samsung Gem. He's hoping I can get the Droid X to work. I'm hoping I can put a Verizon 2.3.4 ROM on his phone so it will work properly.
BEFORE everyone asks, YES, I spoke to Verizon Level 2 (or 3?) tech support. The tech worked with me for almost an hour trying to get the phone unlocked using the stock Silverstar software. I have all of the unlock codes. Voice and SMS will work properly, but we could not get data to work at all. 3G is completely dead. *228 doesn't work. The tech thought it wasn't communicating properly with Verizon towers; maybe the baseband is bad? Verizon WILL take the device, however, and the IMEI is accepted.
Any ideas? I'll try third party ROMs, such as CM7, etc, but for the sake of ease, I figured a stock rom might be easier.

a) I'm not positive but I think if the phone can work with Verizon, it can do it without being rommed.
b) If you fix it, let me know what you did because I'm on an actual DROID X and started having the same problem late last week (except that I'm not switching carriers). Both Verizon and Motorola seem to be clueless as to how or why.
EDIT: In case they didn't tell you - ##PROGRAM is how you get to all the low-level stuff (password is 000000 I think). But DON'T just change it on your own or if you do make sure you write down what you changed it from.

Yes, thanks, these are the codes I had. As I mentioned, a VZ tech walked me through the manual programming, and we got voice and text to work, but no data - basically defeating the purpose of a smartphone. Although ... this is good to know if you ever want to use a smartphone with wifi, on a non-data plan

Well, I tried a two different generic MB809 SBF files, which both failed. Then I tried a VZ MB810 SBF ... which bricked my phone.
At this point, I'm guessing I need an MB809 SBF, but I somehow need to change the baseband/radio to a Verizon file. Assuming, of course, that I can unbrick the phone...

I'm not quite sure what that means. I have heard of qpst though.

Unbrick DX
I bricked my verizon droid x 2 days ago, got it back up and running using 1KDS live cd that flashed milestone X .604. It also rooted my phone, now I'm good to go. I bricked my phone by trying to sbf back to .602 after recieving ota .621 update. The milestone x is actually for European ntelos carrier but works flawlessly with verizon. I hope this helps. I can't post links yet so I you have to google and find: Download - 1KDStaz_MX_4.5.604.iso (Milestone X 4.5.604 Gingerbread)

Root for Motorola Milestone 2?

Does anybody know if root is already available for the Motorola Milestone 2 or when it is coming and who is doing it?
Thanks in advance!

So why would we be talking about rooting a phone that nobody has even put their hands on yet??
IMO rooting should be very easy (it was for the Droid 2) but Bootloader will pretty much 100% guaranteed to be locked. Even the Droid 2 bootloader is locked despite the original Droid being wide open
I got my Milestone 2 yesterday I guess we'll have to wait for root, but who will do it???

Where do you live?
I see that the UK has received the Milestone 2 a few days earlier than the planned 18th launch.
Try the universal Androot method. The M2's bootloader should be locked like the Droid 2.
I live in Germany and got the Milestone 2 from o2 (no contract).
I tried the Universal Androot but it didnt work.
I'm wondering who is / will work on rooting (and Nandroid, OpenRecovery) for the Milestone 2.

I have Milestone 2 on order and want it rooted so am hoping this one works
z4root works for MS2 As far as Cyanogen and stuff goes I have no idea. Good luck to anyone who gets that working haha.
@SedaG,
did you use the Permanent or Temporary root option in z4root for your M2?
I've tried the temporary and that does not enable root access and I've been holding back on the permanent root option before it has been confirmed working.

How much?
I was deciding between original MS, G2, HTC Desire Z and MS2. They're the only ones that are high-end and have qwerty and usable in Aus (GSM).
I heard the Droid2 WorldEdition is SIM-locked and unable to be used here.
If only the EPIC 4G had a GSM radio, they could remove the 4G aswell if they keep the 3G radio ... that is all I want. But damn it to hell, guess I'm stuck without a qwerty till the PSPhone
Ok, root confirmed on the M2!
z4root (install directly from Android Market) works our of the box for Milestone 2 (model A953) if you use the Permanent root option, temporary root won't work. The process may take up to 5 mins...

No, the D2G can be unlocked(either calling Verizon up and asking nicely or a third party method to get the unlock code) to use on any GSM carrier except in the US(expected because Verizon/Vodaphone rather you use it on their carrier instead of the competition).
Just one more confirmation that Z4root works. My phone did freeze up once while running it, but after a battery pull everything was fine and I had root.
We need a new forum for the Milestone 2 development
Hi,
I dont know if any moderators from xda is looking but we need a separate forum for the milestone 2...
AS WE HAVE ROOT..
then hopefully Cyanogen..
I have been hearing about something that is quite serious...
Is the bootloader still locked as it was on the Milestone 1?
Is there any way we can confirm that the bootloader is not locked (maybe a droid 2 rom ported to milestone 2)??
The bootloader is locked, all Motorola high end phones will have a locked bootloader going forward (you don't even have to ask).
got one...
I got my milestone 2...unfortunately, i live in the states and cant use it on the AT&T network. i only can use it on the "Edge" 2G network.....kinda sucks
Wondering can i get this Version.62.2.16.A953.Retail.en.GB Version off and run an US Version will it fix that???
Thanks, any help would be great
Bootstrap for Droid 2 works on the Milestone 2, doing a backup now

No idea. What software was on your device before you tried to flash, and do you have an SBF file for your current version of software? Do you have a modified bootloader?
Downgrading SBF is sometimes not possible on some devices.
I flashed Android 2.2.1 System Version 2.3.340 Full (VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01) from http://sites.google.com/site/1kdsdroidx/home. I probably should not have done that. I'm guessing it updated the bootloader.
Also, the cellular south one won't flash with sbf_flash either. I did make a nandroid as soon as I rooted it so basically I'm just stuck with the Verizon baseband.
Ok just for the sake of asking, are you sure that this is the correct sbf? It's a heck of a lot smaller than the Verizon sbf's and it really does not want to flash to this phone. I can provide any information that you need and I really appreciate your time spent helping me!

Well I was responding to your request for firmware for Milestone X which I don't think will flash to a Droid X , which is what appears you are trying to do. They are different phones aren't they ?
Would this SBF work for the Appalachian Wireless Milestone X as well?
Technically yes, if its the same phone, but I would definitely NOT recommend flashing it because, unless you have your carrier's sbf, you could end up in the same boat as me with the wrong baseband and a phone with no data.
On a related note, can anyone flash this file and confirm that it is the cellular south sbf for the Milestone X, which unless Im terribly mistaken, is the rebranded Droid X(MB809) for regional carriers. Please be careful and only flash this if you know what you are doing!

I'd love to give the generic a go if its no trouble. Thanks man!
Thanks for posting that! It flashed fine, but unfortunately I'm still stuck with the wrong baseband and/or PRL for Cellular South. When i dial *228 for programming I get Verizon's activation service. Any ideas?
Interesting, but where is the link? Any help appreciated!
The link is in its own thread in Droid X General.
Well I took my phone back to the store and got it replaced with another one. No matter what I did, I couldnt get the Verizon baseband off of it.

MB809 for Cellular South
There is now a MB809 Cellular South sbf available.
Well, I bootlooped my phone and gave this a try. It sort of worked on my phone with Appalachian Wireless. The baseband seems to match, but I've lost data. Wish I could find a .sfb for my carrier.
Can an MB809 firmware be flashed on to an MB810 phone?
I know for the most part, you shouldn't flash a firmware from a different phone to another.
I remember times where I flashed an E816 FW to an E815 with no problems.
While flashing a DSTV323 on a V325 only to brick it, then there were work rounds to flash it a certain way. Which would look something like flash this then flash this, and it worked.
In the past I would work on some phones (and I have had my share of bricked phones), but I wanted to ask, can an mb809 firmware be flashed on the mb810?
i bought a DX off craiglist with a bad esn# for $40.00
not bad
i called verizon and checked the esn to make sure its not reported lost/stolen and it is not.
if i want to get it activated i have to pay the old bill of $1700
anyhow i can not get "Standalone GPS" working because i can not activate.
STUPID VZW has its Standalone GPS locked down.
can i flash this mb809 rom to my mb810?
i mean i dont care about the cell radio...
i might care if i reflash it to cricket or metro-pcs or something like that later in order to sell it.
but right now i just want the dang blue triangle in my notification bar to go away...meaning im not activated meaning no GPS
i am currently running the pre-rooted 4.5.596 rom
any advice would be great
thanks
got my MB810 working with the alltel MB809 rom
gps is now working on a non-activated phone
Work in Motorola Milestone X Open Mobile PR
the SBF works for Motorola Milestone X for Open Mobile Puerto Rico?
anyone got a mirror?
filesonic is partially shutdown.
If you have updated your phone using the Gingerbread OTA that has been released by most carriers using this SBF will brick your phone. To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been an SBF that will work for the Gingerbread OTA.
That said, I think I may still have a copy of this somewhere if you still want.

I got a big brick!

Hi all...
Just for know if exist a way to rescue my milestone 2, I get it really hot since I installed a lot of apps, so used app remover (the phone was rooted) to "recycle" or disable motoblur apps, but I didn't make it well. I get back all that apps but the original blur launcher and dial program didn't worked.
So decided reset to factory settings, now I cannot access to the launcher, so I just see the HSPDA indicator, cannot recieve calls, cannot do anything.
I will send it to warranty tomorrow, this is just for know if there is something to do before, of course, I cannot configure to usb debugging, so I guess I cannot do anything.
Thanks...
Flash the stock rom sbf with RSD lite, and you will be fine
you can find the sbf files here:
http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2
Download the SBF according your region here:
http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2
Turn off the phone.
Turn on the phone holding vol down and camera buttons.
You will enter in Bootloader mode.
Flash with RSDLite.

It wold be great! Since my phone was rooted, I guess the warranty is lost...

[Q] Unlocked bootloader on Razr M?

Has anyone unlocked the bootloader on their Razr M retail version yet? It's been mentioned on some other forums that you can get the unlock code from Motorola website. This should then allow a recovery to be installed onto the phone.
So has anyone attempted it yet?
Not going to happen on retail non developer edition. /thread.

No, he's an Aussie , our RAzr Ms are unlockable.
My Australian Telstra branded Razr M spat out an unlock code via the motorola unlock website just like the dev edition phones do. It says right on that website if your phone is ineligible you will receive an error. And I got the code, not the error.
Ausdroid also says explicitly they have confirmation Aussie Razr M is unlockable via moto website.
PJcons, I notice the same discussion on whirlpool, seriously if you don't believe this answer then go and try it yourself, no point asking repeatedly esp as you are confusing people here who have the US CDMA verizon version not the aussie GSM/LTE1800 Telstra version. Also, there is already an existing thread (me lol) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964862
However re: actually unlocking, I can't confirm the last step i.e. actually doing it. The only reason I haven't actually gone ahead is because there is actually no point at this stage as we don't have access to any remotely mature custom ROMs, and the only CWM floating around is not confirmed working on our variant (though as long as it doesn't touch the radio, theoretically it should). But I'm reluctant to do anything without having a stock Telstra fastboot image as a last resort roll-back option, years and years of flashing droids has taught me that if nothing else. Theoretically though I do not see how it could possibly fail if you have the token.

Yes we know AU is on Telstra ...
But what are the changes that causes the lock down.
Is it a Physical chip that has been changed or is it a 128Bit encryption that stops ppl from Unlocking the Verizon version ?
Pretty sure it's encryption... I remember seeing an article on how it was done, but no idea where...

I think I read somewhere that Motorola uses 256bit encryption, but I could have dreamed that for all I know.
Either way, it's going to be tough to crack.
