A510 Accessories Thread - Acer Iconia A500

I don't see one, so I'll start one. List any A510 accessories you have seen, have on order or currently own. Please keep it specific to the A510, no generic sleeves/bags/keyboards since they're pretty universal among all tablets.
I'll kick it off with the A510 case I ordered off of Amazon yesterday. Look pretty nice from the pictures, and the price is definitely good ($13 + FS). It says leather, we'll have to wait and see if it's actually real dead cow. The USB port looks accessible when the case is in the 'keyboard' position, may help with my biggest criticism of the design.
The only immediate drawback is delivery, estimated for July 2nd

I have this one, just got it yesterday. Very similar to the one you linked from Amazon. I paid $17, but it's down in the $13s now.
The case is lovely, nice feel, good fit. Slim - doesn't add bulk. What I hesitate on is the tablets performance in the case. Touch sensitivity seems less responsive and my webpages are loading poorly. I'm not ready to throw it out yet, going to play with settings an make sure it's not the home router or anything. Will report back once I've used it more.
This seller has a couple others available and one thing I can say is that it was hands down the best transaction as far as communication that I've had on Ebay. It's a chinese seller, they were extremely communicative. Even contacted me after the purchase to make sure I'd read that it wasn't shipping til May 13... it said that in the auction but they wanted to be sure.

A510 Car Charger
UPDATE 6/14/12: Received replacement charger. Different body style, with a circular connector at the end mating to a micro-USB adapter. Thinking he finally got it right...
WRONG! Same thing happened, plug it into the tablet and the fuse blows. Pretty sure I know why, I believe the voltage is going to the wrong pins. Why do I think that? Because my freaking USB port doesn't work for data transfer any more, either from a memory stick or to my PC. Looks like the USB data lines are fried, but I can still use the Acer charger to charge it. So now I've got to set my new baby in for repairs, glad I kept my A500 as a backup.
Sucks being a guinea pig. I'm just going to order another wall charger, I've got a small inverter in the truck to plug it into. Should have known better, I told him to take down the Amazon listing before anyone else blows up their A510, if I get any crap from him I'll be taking it up with Amazon.
UPDATE 6/10/12: Vendor believes he sent the wrong charger, is sending another. Will update post when received.
DO NOT ORDER THIS CHARGER.
It seems to be just a regular micro-USB 5V charger used for cell phones. Plugging it in to the tablet immediately blows the fuse, at least that works the way it should. I will be contacting the vendor for a refund.
Next up from Amazon, ordered an A510 car charger. I've seen other products from this seller before, looks like this one has been custom made and molded. Under $25 w/shipping.

Received this today. Applied it right away and it is a perfect fit with the A510. Comes with a barcode sticker for video which is this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6RU3O15QPI
They show it being applied to an iPad, but the steps are the same. I aligned it with the hole for the front camera and then down.

Power Supply Warning

I've seen a post somewhere where members are stating that the phone sometimes stops charging from the power supply. I had this tonight and when playing around with the charger, could hear arcing. It's due to the slide in plug part not making good contact with the pins. Evidence of this is a blackening of one of the metal plates inside the socket part (not the pins on the main charger part). Suggest you check your charger, as prolonged arcing is not good.
Another one here, I'm afraid.
The main part of the adaptor has silly silly bits of sprung metal that are supposed to contact with the smaller plug part. Unfortunately, on mine the two parts are rather loose it sometimes does not connect.
I hope that my supplier won't want me to send the whole phone package back otherwise it's going to cost more than the value of the adaptor to send insured.
Keep an eye out for this, folks. As the previous poster suggested, it could cause overheating.
- Steve
Update :
HTC Europe have just returned my mains adaptor, still intermittently faulty.
I've sent them a stiff letter with images of the pitted and blackened contacts caused by the mains arcing.
If that doesn't produce an acceptable response, I shall escalate the issue to a third party because of the potential safety issue.
Update :
HTC returned my power supply saying that they cannot find anything wrong with it. Not happy !
Obviously, because the problem was intermittent, they must have tested it briefly and not seen the problem.
I wrote to HTC UK enclosing pictures of the burned and pitted contacts. No reply.
I imagine that I shall now have to persue warranty through the original dealer (Handtec, who don't really want to know anything about faults after the first few days, but nevertheless have a legal obligation to resolve the issue).
Unfortunately I can just see myself going round in circles with HTC again. Grrrr!
Since its not a computer item you have to prove that it isnt working, which technically shouldnt be to hard since you have burn marks, if they continue to say noting id be temped to get a qualified second opinion from someone and get it on letter headed paper, if they refuse to do anything after that you can say you have expanded all reasonable efforts to fix this issue with themselves (HTC) which is a potentially life threatening issue, you have not had a satisfactory responce to date (DATE IT) and if you have still not recieved a reply / replacement within 14 days, the next communication will be from my solicitor, where matters will be taken further, on the grounds of faulty electrical goods proven to be faulty and not being replaced.
Try that and see what happens, course getting a solicitor might cost an arm an a leg for the cost of what? a £20 power adaptor...
Yes, it's frustrating.
I should have no problem getting an assessment from a qualified engineer - I work as an electronics engineer myself in a safety-critical industry (aerospace).
I'll give Handtec fair chance to solve my problem first before wheeling out the big guns ;-)
Here's an enlarged photo of the contact inside the plug half of the adaptor. You can see where it has started to arc :

im sure trading standards would love to take this up for you
dont forget your rights under sale of goods act or the european act of similar powers (cant recall the name
and it isnt up to you to prove it is faulty, its up to them to prove its not
the pictures look clear cut to me, serious design fault
bbc watchdog anyone?
My charger did this too!
Called up orange and they sent me an entire new handset and i had to give back the old charger, battery and phone. Leaving me with 2 8gb cards, 2 spare stylus', 2 cases etc...
So i'm not complaining
Jake
My HTC charger stopped working just a few minutes ago, luckily i had a 750mA USB charger which i bought for 5 bucks lying around and that works perfectly, charging it with that now.

Video out USB with remote... $19, shipped

Has anyone seen this?
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.22025
It is made for HTC Diamond, but if it really works, I think it should work for Touch Pro/Fuze as well... I doubt my Fuze will fit it thou, but I have a connector for it.
For the price, I would love to give it a try.
This is nice too: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.22026
but I don't need it, since I already have 2 batteries
Those are nice. I am really thinking about getting the battery charger.
does htc diamond even have a tv-out option?? i'm really sure it doesn't.
as far as I know only touch pro has TV out. I might be wrong too.
can anyone tell me if the av cable will work with the orignal adapter? cause i won't want to carry around the big dock all the time.
I have the Fuze, and downloaded the video out Cab off this forum. I used the Ipod cable which looks like the one in the picture with the Fuze supplied adapter.
I have a TV-out cable that i got from expansys for my verizon TP. My buddy has a sprint diamond and my cable does not work with his phone. Plus the picture of the dock looks like a TP not a diamond.
Im buying that thing tomorrow.
Just had one shipped out today. Ill let you guys know how it does. btw, it says it will take 14 days.
I use dealextreme often. When they say 'ships in 2-5 days' they actually mean 'we might get round to shipping it in a couple of weeks'. This is because they hold no stock, they get the items in once they have been ordered.
But they always ship eventually, and there are some great toys on the site.
i ordered this on 3/28 in the evening and was finally shipped out today according to the tracking site it left hong kong today just to give you guys an idea on the shipping.
I Lol'd. A lot of things are wrong with this cradle guys. You should've seen it. First off, that is the worst remote I've ever seen. Second off, it shows a diamond on the box. Thirdly, there is a white iPod cable pictured. Lastly, The TouchPRO tv-out is always in landscape! how do you plan on using landscape like that? (I don't care that it's a cradle It should be in landscape. I guess you could say the original htc cradle is like that too, but I guess that's why I didn't get that either.
Does the battery really work with the Touch Pro? It says 11 pin usb and thats what the pro has but is it the same layout?
i got mine a few days ago item is as described, works well with my fuze. now the cons are that the phone is quite heavy for the dock so it just rolls forward or backwards unless you have it straight up can't angle it without rolling, and i hate the fact that the connections are in front rather than having it on the back. so what i did was dissasembled the docking station and flip the lid backwards that connects the phone and cut out the front (which is now the back) where the usb pc cord connects to so now when i dock the phone its got support and is at a perfect angle and the usb connects are on the back. i took pictures of the dock station with my phone but don't know how to upload it here, let me know how please to show the pictures. thanks
ok i figured it out

Best Stand for the A500

I got this stand from eBay for under $10. Best stand yet, esp for the price (for those who dont own a case)
http://everydayreviews.net/2011/07/universal-tablet-stand-review-910/
The seller is still selling them I believe
Arkon IPM-TAB1 still beats all others I have seen...thanks to its variability.
+1 for the arkon stand. i have it, and its great, simple and cheap.
pics? how much?
http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Portabl...VOOY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309148166&sr=8-1
I also vouch for arkon.
Plus one. Great stand. I also like the spider podium. I'm going to get the pad sized one for use In the car.

I jumped down to Officeworks (AU) and found this;
officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Office-Supplies/Desk-Accessories/Mesh-Desk-Accessories/ES47548BK (Can't post full links; not enough posts!)
I realise it's not a fully fledged tablet holder, and it wasn't the manufacturers intention however it is so cheap, and works quite well despite it's low form factor and simplistic structure. It is enough to hold the tablet up while charging to give you a decent view of the screen.
I don't believe it will replace a proper case/stand, however for something so cheap it's worth it

I bought this stand for £1.00 in a pound shop! Its a great stand if you're not after anything fancy, works well and for a quid you can't go wrong.
Another Vote for the Arkon
I went on the cheap. I went to Micheal's (arts & craft store) and bought a decorative plate stand. It was $3.99, looks kind of like a small art easel, folds flat, fits in my 10" laptop sleeves pocket, and is perfectly sturdy.
http://www.ecplaza.net/product/134914_1035670/wooden_plate_holderdish.html
I bought a stand for only $2 it was at Dollarama (Canada) and it was meant for iPads. I would show some pics but this forum tells me I am noob.
I didn't want to leave my new Iconia unprotected so I bought the cheapest cover/stand I could find. It was an Acer branded cover/stand for $39.99 at Fry's Electronics in Arizona. My Iconia Ghost Armor is finally in and being put on the tablet today so I'm returning it. The GA would just peel if I tried to force it into the Acer cover. Looks like the $13 Arkon is cheap and durable which is better than the $40.

sorry guys, i did a major site upgrade and the links are all different. it is fixed now.
but yea, that akron stand looks really good and portable
The best stands in my book are the Compass Stand http://twelvesouth.com/products/compass/ or the Griffin Tablet Stand https://store.griffintechnology.com/tablet-1/motorola-xoom/tablet-stand. Neither are cheap, cheap - around $39.99 or $29.99 respectively - by shopping around you might find a better price. But what they both do is fold to a small portable size, the Compass Stand is the best in this department, and neither put stress on the docking port. I also used the Arkon Stand for a while, but over time, I felt that the central gear joint loosened up too much to be a secure support for my larger tablets.
Just my 2 cents.

[PSA] The OEM Universal Dock Scratches the Back Cover

I just noticed this on my Note. It's not bad and you can't see it unless you look for it but I'd imagine it would get worse over time.
Here's the problem. The Note moves as you're using it in the dock and the stand is hard plastic so it leaves abrasions.
Here's the fix (from Lowe's)
I use the OEM dock and am not seeing any abrasion, yet, but thanks for the tip.

I use it also and don't see any but I think I will apply these just to be safe. Thx BH
What is the universal dock capable of other than acting as a stand? How much n where can you buy them from?
I have three of the docks and my Note spends a lot of time in them. That may be why I'm showing more wear than you guys.
I got mine at MacMall for $29.99 all in. Shipping is free and 2-day if you belong to ShopRunner. It's pretty much a stand but it has a 3.5MM out jack to plug speakers in to it. The old docks were made to fit each size tablet and provided better support. The new one also has the Note sitting pretty upright compared to the old one. Demandarin, BB has them in stock in Alexandria for $34.99 if you want to see it first.

got mine at best buy and also use an HDMI plug which i piggy back to the back of this. I pretty much do all of my charging on it and moovie watching as well as listen to my music. It was about $35 at BB. I think the HDMI was about $22 on amazon. I will look for a link.
I went and got a notebook 'skin'.. those lightly adhesive decoration sheets meant to put on the lid of laptops and netbooks and carefully cut it to match the Note and stuck it on there... mainly because I'd heard so much about the Note's back being 'soft'.
So the dock would only scratch the sticky.
My biggest complaint about the dock is that you can't charge AND sync at the same time. It would have been nice to have a USB connection on this too.
Since no ones mentioned hdmi output in any of these docks, im assuming because there is'nt one, but just incase, does anyone know or own a compatible note dock with hdmi output?
HDMI would have to run through the charging port via a dongle so a charging dock won't do it without an additional adapter. Any other type of dock you can just flip the tab over and use the dongle.

I've been using the universal dock as a stand for about an hour a day and haven't noticed any scratches, but thanks for posting this! I'll keep an eye on mine. I got the dock at Best Buy (at the time, they were about the only ones locally who had it in stock), because the regular stand I was using didn't accomodate the thin-ness of the Note very well and I was afraid of it landing on the floor one day.

My review on this product is basically this.....
This product is amazing in every way it's described. Small, portable, lightweight, lots of energy, and can charge anything.
It comes with 2 ports to charge (can be used at the same time), and 1 port to charge the actual battery.
Can charge my iPhone more than 6 times....I have not been able to test it efficiently, but it works, and it works well!
How to describe this product....
Think of an iPhone 4 in a Otterbox. Now imagine it was a bit longer like an iPhone5. Now imagine that it looks like an iPhone, yet there isn't really a screen, it's just for looks. Now what you do is you put this charger in your pocket with your phone when it's getting low (or in the car, in a bag, purse, whatever), and than you instantly have POWER IN YOUR PANTS.
I've been questioned....why do you have a wire coming out of your pants? How are you charging your phone while walking around? What type of magic is this?
On a more serious note...everyone phone dies...everyone wishes they could charge their phone while moving, and they also wish their phones would never die. This device does that and more.
It's programmed to charge iPhones and Androids faster than normal.
It comes with a ton of connectors to charge tablets, all phones, laptops, and basically anything I can think of.
for $40...it's a steal. Buy it, you'll love it. Thank me Later ♥
My review on Amazon is very basic, and lists the only two flaws I saw....
1) The iPhone connector will unattach itself from the provided cord that comes with the device. I think the same applies for Androids, and tablets. I suggest using the standard cord your device comes with to connect to the external battery.
2) there's a lot of important attachments that come in this very small bag, and all the pieces are very small. None of them are really needed besides the USB cord to charge the battery, but I wouldn't want to lose them, and yet they are so small...I likely will. Wish there was a small zipper in the protective pouch it comes in.
Conclusion:
★★★★★/★★★★★ (A universal product that should be owned by everyone)
Cost: $25-$40...I suggest buying the largest one, simply because it's an amazing deal. I bought it for $50 not too long ago, and it can be a life saver. (Think about the shows where you get lost in the woods, and your phone dies) ^_^
Edit: basically changed my review on amazon to this. Hope that's alright with you guys.
where is the link for this thing or even a name for it to buy? i am not seeing it. sorry if i missed something.

My apologies, I seem to have forgotten to place both! It's made by Anker, or can be found at iAnker.com, or this direct link to Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009USAJCC/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prod_ttl_hst_61
