Evo 4g "+" to get ICS update by June? - EVO 4G General

Check out this post
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...o-get-android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-updates/
according to the list, the Korean version of the Evo will get an ICS update. Does that mean we will most likely get a port to the normal Evo? Every Evo on sprint anyways is getting an ICS update, hopefully the community has not forgot about us and will help out

Probably not. Evo 4g+ is different in specs compared to our phone's. It has the same specs basically as the evo 3d. Might as well port straight from the regular evo 3D then wait for a Evo 4g + ota or leak

Evo 4G+ is basically the Evo 3D without the 3D. But yea, completely different from the OG Evo.

The HTC page that details the upgrades also says this:
What devices will not get Android 4.0?
We work hard to ensure each of our products has the optimal user experience and therefore some products will remain at their current version of Android. In general, devices with 512MB ROM or less will not be upgraded to Android 4.0. These devices include the HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa, HTC Wildfire S, HTC Explorer, and others.

I looked at our specs, and we have a 1GB ROM, which implies that our device should get the upgrade at some point.

The evo4g has been put on End Of Life status via sprint so it will not be receiving any OS updates, the only things it will receive if any are security patches on the 2.3.5 platform and maybe a push to 2.3.6 at the highest. It will never see an official ICS update, from HTC or sprint due to sprint classifying it as EOL
We are legion, for we are many.

They should. And now that the EVO 4G LTE does not have a specific day of release thanks to Apple.

It would be nice to see an update for the OG Evo, but since I am not running stock Android, it wouldn't really matter.

Gingerbread instead of froyo?

hey guys what if the reason we haven't got our froyo is because e are getting gingerbread instead? Google just announced that gingerbread is filly cooked and that is planning to released ASAP.

No, we're getting Froyo ... beta has already leaked if you haven't noticed. Official version from Samsung / Sprint should be out sometime in the near future. Don't get your hopes up with Gingerbread because we won't see that on the Epics for quite a while.
Yep. Like I said in the froyo leak forum, any person phone-geeky enough to be hanging out in XDA will probably have a different phone by the time Gingerbread hits the Epic.
However someone did make a good point in that the Nexus S will have gingerbread and since that's a Galaxy S phone it will hopefully be easy to port over to the Epic.

That was me who said that, and I haven't yet seen anyone argue that it wouldn't be possible....
While the coming update is undoubtedly Froyo, I think it's only a matter of time before we'll have 2.3. Considering the new Nexus is the "Nexus S" from Samsung and looks to basically be another Galaxy S variant, I think ports will happen.
The Nexus S is not a CDMA phone so the port will take a bit or time, unless the 2.2 kernel works out of the box with 2.3.
It's possible but don't expect instant gratification.
Also shouldn't this be in general?

Honeycomb is going to be 3.0
Epic experience + Phoenix kernel + Emotionless beast = Great functionality, Exceptional battery life, and Sweet eye candy.
2.3 would have to be released to the devs at the handset manufacturers so they could customize it for their phones (load it with their crap bloatware, custom interface, etc.....). As we have seen, that takes time (2.2 has been out for a while now). If we were to see 2.3, it would probably be 6 months from now, about the time 2.4 or 3.0 (they should call it Poundcake.....good name, and good Van Halen song) is coming out.
I don't think our handsets will ever see 2.3 at this rate. It will be another year into the future before we see it, and by then our phones won't even be powerful enough to make phone calls.
Oh we will definitely see 2.3 on the epic even if it has to be unofficially brought to us ;-)

This is exactly why I am so excited about the Nexus S. In the same way that the Nexus One gave the Incredible, the Evo 4G and the other HTC devices amazing hacking potential, the Nexus S will make our Galaxy S phones way way better.
More developers will be working on this platform, and we will have all the google stuff working on hardware that is 99% the same. Really, the only thing different will be the CDMA/4G radios, but that is just minor stuff since that is the only difference between the Nexus One and the Evo. Also, the Epic Experience ROM is full of stuff taken off of other Galaxy S devices and it all works great.
Also, I'm going to say that this phone is not dual core. It might have a 1.2ghz hummingbird, but thats the only thing that might be different. It might also have some filesystem stuff that is different but we can hack around all of that. Hopefully it is using the same GPS chip though, because Google will then really light a fire under Samsung to make sure they fix it once and for all.

Major Improvements of PRL xxx77

Attached below is the internal Sprint document of the recent improvements of the PRL.
Mainly for everyone who doesn't want to read and see the new coverage it turns on 3G Roaming in the following states:
- FL
- MI
- OH
- WV
- WI
- NC
"- PRLs expand 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming coverage in Florida, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
- PRLs also add Strategic Alliance Roaming (SRA) to portions of North Carolina. Customers will have a Sprint like experience for voice and 3G services, meaning the roaming light will be off and billed as on-network."
I'll also be writing an article describing in details exactly what is going on.
Glad to see you on here still bro
Good deal! Thanks for this...

I knew u couldn't leave us this early lol =). I been bashing the Evo 3D too as I'm not impressed with 3D & just simply being tired of all these UI's that bloats the phone down & makes getting updates seem impossible. I was either gonna keep my Epic or get the Nexus S, but the one reason I may get the new Evo is for Netflix! Also, HTC really surprised me too with the dual core processor, I really thought they were gonna throw the 2nd gen Snapdragon in it & call it a day. Now my only worry is will HTC lock down the bootloader, as they been hinting around that they're gonna start doing it going forward.

Yup, EVO 3D is the first with the 8660 processor. It will have NetFlix support. And alot of people misunderstand 3D. The phone runs in 2D, but certain applications have 3D support. Sooner or later everything will supoport 3D, but not right awhile.
The EVO 3D runs soooo smooth. I have a video of it running and it is a amazing. The new HTC Sense is awesome. I LOVE HTC Sense, I have always been an HTC fan, but the Samsung Epic impressed me too much to pass up. I had the HTC Vouge, and I made the first M2D custom rom for it, and I was the first to perfect it. The HTC Hero was my next and the Sense on that was incredible. I now see that the EVO 3D's Sense has surpassed all my expectations. I work with all the Sprint phones so I get to use everything, and by far the EVO 3D is greater then all. The LG Thrill and the Moto Atrix has nothing on it.
Trust me, the 3D is not a gimmick. This is legit and awesome! I will be getting it the day it comes out for my personal phone. HTC Sense, may be bloat to some, but it is by far the best UI out and even better then Launcher Pro IMO. I know I'll get hate mail for that, but Sense is the best UI out for Android currently.

That would make sense (no pun intended ). After all the two new flagship products by Sprint are the Nexus S and EVO 3D so they'll want to push Gingerbread as a feature on those phones before they upgrade the Shift. I doubt they'll update the original EVO though. But in the mean time there's always CM7 and the other 3rd party Gingerbread ROMs. :3

I'm pretty sure the EVO 3D will become the new flagship product when its released this summer and over shadow the popularity of the original EVO. Even if the whole 3D thing doesn't take off its still a superior design and you can bet Sprint will be pushing that fact.

I'm pretty sure the Shift will get the next update or 2 as it came out recently. The EVO has been around a while though and the EVO 3D looks as if its been purposely designed to be the original EVO's successor. From a business standpoint it doesn't make sense to continue long-term support for a device that has been replaced. Its with that in mind that I say I doubt the EVO will get Gingerbread.

HTC Falls Behind Motorola In Updates

This is why we have XDA my friend.
There's also a difference from Eclair to Froyo from Froyo to Gingerbread.
Froyo actually offered something new from Eclair, Gingerbread does have some benefits but mostly nothing groundbreaking. The X and the Evo were updated to Froyo in about the same time frame of their release.
Didn't the Droid X2 already launch though?
Guess it makes sense, if that is true, that they'd start pushing the update. Isn't that the idea with the Evo? Wait for the successor to drop, then update the past device?
Either way, it'll be here soon enough.

I agree. I don't think HTC makes better phones btw, motorola kills them in battery life, and I prefer phones made of metal.
I also would rather believe that people in general would want the newest phone over the newest software update. The "average consumer" probably has no idea what the latest iteration of Android is or how to even check for the ota for it lol.
Is it really that big of a deal? The majority of us have rooted phones running custom ROMs anyway. There are handfuls of GB ROMs, both Sense and AOSP. We've had GB on AOSP ROMs (CM) for months now, while the Droid X didn't get GB ROMs until recently.
I know sometimes it's just to ***** and complain about something for the sake of *****ing and complaining, but seriously, is there any need to say that HTC isn't the "leader of the cell phone game" anymore just because of one simple software update?
Also,
Unlocked bootloader >>>>>>> OTA GB update
Holy speculation based thread we have here batman!
Sprint "holding back updates to all phones" comments are silly.
Also, who cares? With HTC phones I can run Cyanogen and have had Gingerbread for what three months now?
With Motorola I can say I have root...which is meaningless.

Holy speculation based thread we have here batman!
Sprint "holding back updates to all phones" comments are silly.
Also, who cares? With HTC phones I can run Cyanogen and have had Gingerbread for what three months now?
With Motorola I can say I have root...which is meaningless.

Lol I wrote HTC they said its up to Sprint .

When will we see the next Sprint HTC superphone?

I love the new Galaxy Nexus, but I am partial to HTC phones. When will they give us a new super phone on Sprint?

i second that. I returned my epic touch. the radio sucked and had nothing but issues on all 3 of them. Ill gladly keep using the evo until htc lte phones come out

nothing wrong with that... no point in upgrading early 2012 knowing that your phone will be out-dated in terms of wimax vs lte in a few months

Not that I'm all for Apple, but I believe at the moment, the iPhone 4s is their number one phone at the moment...but that's alright, I don't think that will last too long, I'm kinda interested in Nokia and Windows Phone Apollo...

Next HTC phone should be released in early summer and be as the evo successor and if right should be announced at ctia and should be flagship for their first LTE phone
sent from my HTC evolution running a freshly baked gingerbread with the 4gs in it
The evo is plenty now. With no more yearly upgrades, why waste it now on a wimax phone thats not going anywhere.
Long live Evo

Sprint is throttling the iPhones data. Bro in law has been *****ing bout it since launch day. Did a Google search and he's not only one, huge deal! So imo I wouldn't claim 4s to be a power dog when they're only getting .02 mbps upload average lol

Yea I love my Evo. I probably won't upgrade till LTE is fully up and running

Yeah my Evo is running 2.3.5 and sense 3.5 overclocked and all the goodies, so what would I "upgrade" to anyway until LTE is up and running? So I don't have Seri and can't make appointments while I'm jogging.. I don't jog anyway so take that Apple!!

We have "voice actions" in the market. It's actually superior to Seri in my opinion! It actually learns and will get to know you!

True that. An upgrade to an non-LTE phone and this point doesn't make sense to me. OG Evo still running strong.
the next flagship phone will probably come out next summer lol

WTF, you saying I need to jog??
may grab the evo design 4g just to hold me til the summer http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/19/sprint-unleashes-the-htc-evo-design-4g-available-october-23rd-f/
I say when they get ready to launch LTE. Although, I would like to see an HTC version of the Samsung Galaxy Note. Not really into the whole stylus, nor 3D. I just want bigger, faster, more memory. Want to get fancy, include a optical, non-digital zoom for the camera.
I think ICS will make my decision for me. IF the OG EVO can get an AOSP ICS build (with or without WiMAX) I'm going to keep it until I see how Sprint's LTE rollout goes. I'm gonna tide myself over with a Windows 8 tablet when they launch...
