Edit: I forgot to mention that I've fiddled with the S Voice in multiple languages (I'm not a native speaker of either of them) and it surprised me how well I managed to get along with the app. It's responsive, useful and can easily understand you (I'm kind of shouting at it because I wanted to get it right, but it works very nicely). Can't wait for the Romanian version!

I'm with the Samsung Mob!lers Romania and we almost always get the devices prereleased. Unfortunately they are beta products and can have faulty software, but luckily I had no problem whatsoever with the SIII. Stay tuned for a full video hands on and many other Samsung devices

Rate your UX with the new nature inspired TouchWiz. How is it different than S2 TW? Smoother? Any small, but experience enhancing changes?
Reviews have shown that the stock S3 browser is much better and less laggy than the S2. Can you confirm this with real life usage?
Unfortunately I have no S2 at hand to try out, but what I can say based on my experience with TouchWiz is that it's very sharp and quick and in the time I used it I had no intention of using a custom launcher. The browser is the same I have on my Tab 2, and prefer it over Chrome, but I can't say how much faster it is than the predecessors.
There are many users talking about the possible screen issues on the SGIII. Were you able to notice some kind of tinting?

I saw some topics talking about the display quality, with a slightly pink hue, but the model I have is just perfect. A lot of people complain about the oversaturation, but I think the colors are very very vivid. You get four different display color settings to match your taste, with dynamic being the flashiest and then standard, natural and movie.
I've tested everything out and I never got a force close or any kind of error, although it got stuck in S Voice once, but bear in mind that I don't have an actual production model.

EDIT: Now I see that the other guy has replied to my question about the reader and the answer is that it is available for most sites!
Is there a "reader" type function in the web browser? In one other video demonstrating text reflow, the reviewer pressed an icon in or near the address field to go into a "reader" mode! So clearly it does exist, but the reviewer was browsing mobile wikipedia when he did it, I was wondering if it is available when for example reading an article on Gsmarena in desktop mode?
I didn't see any reader button so I can't say if there was one, when I browsed I simply used the text wrap on the standard double tap zoom, never at different sizes.
If it's the same browser with the one I have on my Tab 2 (ICS 4.0.3) then there is no such feature, but they nay be different.
have u used or looked at a htc one X before? if so could you make a brief comparison of its screen with the sgs3 screen?
I have only seen them separately and I only know that both displays are amazing. A romanian reviewer whom I trudt has made a detailed comparispn between them and he favours the screen of the One X. In terms of resolution or color tones they're both overkill, but he says that the visibility in heavy sunlight is better on the One X.
I can only say that there's nothing you can possibly use the screen for that requires a higher resolution. Check the close up in the end of my gestures video to see how crisp clear it is!

I gave the phone back, but I've tested the problem reported on the One X, that the multitasking was not working properly (reloading web pages when switched back to the browser etc) and I can completely vouch for the multitasking on the S III. It switches the apps flawlessly and keeps them in the RAM not requiring a reload.

Now that people are starting to receive their Nexus One handsets, it would be really good if there was a single thread where people could post their first impressions, then a mini review after a few days of use.

Homescreen cards are useless.
Homescreen crawling with live wallpapers ((especially rain)) is slightly choppy at times. Regular wallpapers smooth.
Creepy moment....Maybe I overlooked something I did.. but how did camera pics from my G1 appear on my Nexus One gallery ???? Im seriously baffled. ((drop box)) is the only info I have. Maybe Its in picasa ?? Need to check this.
App installation ?....insanely fast..serious. Its done quicker than you can exit out so far. ((wifi))
Screen is gorgeous.. I will say this. It may not WOW you at first. But the second you go back to Iphone or another phone.. it REALLY hits you how sharp this phone is. Similar to dvd to HD. Biggest difference is when you go back and realize how blurry it was.

First impressions after a few hours:
FAST!! (especially coming from the Hero). I was download/installing apps in the background and didn't notice any slowdown.
The screen is awesome. Not just the resolution, the colors are really good. OLED is worth it.
Different hardware button order on the bottom: Back-Menu-Home-Search on the N1. Not a big deal, but I had assumed that Android would come with a recommended button layout. Oh and the buttons are capacitive sensing, not protruding rubber buttons.
After about 24 hours..
FAST, FAST, FAST... app installs are ridiculously quick. As mentioned earlier, I don't know what Engadget was doing because the browser loads everything super quick for me. Maybe they should have ran multiple tests beyond their cluttered mess they call a website.
Transitioning between homescreens can be done by touching the bottom left and right, which show dots to indicate where you are. Center screen has two dots on each side, if you click the right dots you'll have 3 on the right and 1 on the left, click to the right again and you'll have 4 on the right and 0 on the left. hard to explain, but I like it better than swiping.
Some apps need to be updated to 2.1, so I'm missing some functionality but I'm sure that will be taken care of soon.
The screen is GORGEOUS. I spent over an hour last night reading a large pdf document and never felt any eyestrain whatsoever. I'm sensing great E-reader possibilities here. Further, the battery barely lost any juice while the screen was lit up for such a long period. Battery life has been excellent so far, much better than my Ion.
Speech-to-text works well so far.
Call clarity has been fine, but I've only talked for a few minutes.
No radio issues, showing over 1mbps here in the DC area.
N1 on AT&T
I'm stuck on ATT and with wifi it is extremely fast not much faster than my sons 3gs to compare with. But definately faster and smoother. I thought that edge would be terrible and it is slower of course but surprising noticably much faster than my G1. Maybe a better radio or just the horsepower. I have wifi at work and home and don't have a lot of idle time except maybe at the airport (which has wifi) so I'm ok.
At this point I don't see anything on the horizon to top this for a while.

anyways it's super fast. like 10 times faster than g1. you hit install and it's done. you click something and it's up. multi touch in dolphin is crazy. cant wait till tonight when cyanogen includes MT in regular browser.
complains? have to get used to top button / lock screen. i also have to agree with engadget that the touch buttons seem to be higher than they should be. as in for say HOME, you have to hit the top half of it really close to screen for it to work, if u hit too far down it doesnt. and too far down is too far up IMO.

camera takes pictures like instantly. and even autofocuses. no dedicated camera button tho .
not sure about sound quality. talked to cousin and it seemed maybe worse? idk i have to wait and see.i dont like that its microusb and not miniusb but that's not really an issue.

GRR. no its not. it's not that big of a deal for me and also you can count on either an update making it MT or another keyboard just using it's API's. the next HTC_IME might be MT for all we know.

not sure the FPS...i can post a test video for you in a little to check it out or look at one already posted. it's better than other phone but not amazing...
no flash YET it's coming soon as an update but right now there is no flash...
better keyboard or HTC IME willl allow for t9. and idk what t9 you mean...the normal keyboard has predictive to some extent but if you want phone keypad predictive go with better KB or HTC IME. i'm seeing if the current HTC IME works in a little.
The Nexus one is absolutely amazing!! I came from 32b sapphire(my touch). This phone is probably ten times faster at loading apps and navigating around. Internet browsing is insanely fast, its pretty much like browsing on a pc. Typing on the android keyboard is actually pretty good, if I type as fast as I can the phone does not miss a beat, I tested hitting 2 keys at the same time and it always picks up both of them. I have never noticed the phone slow down one bit even when it is running 20+ apps at the same time. Almost all the apps I had for the Mytouch have worked very well on the Nexus. Orientation is almost instant, and the camera takes pics really fast as mentioned above. The screen is beautifully clear and functions well. So far I'm very impressed!

the video resoultion is 800x480
screens dfont have fps but rather i think you mean to say refresh rate. the refresh rate on OLED displays is very high.
It is possible to add a T9 keyboard. Cyanogen will soon release the HTC_IME keyboard for nexus one and it supports this feature.

No, he's asking about the specs if you're taking video with the camera. It is 720x480, but I don't know the fps.

I've had mine for about an hour now and I LOVE it. The screen is amazing and very vibrant . The phone itself looks and feels great. When it changes to landscape view it is SUPER fast, there is pretty much no lag to speak of.
My biggest issue so far is the fact it doesn't use the normal mini usb for charging. The only reason I have an issue with that is the fact I have mini USB chargers everywhere in my house.
Besides that the only other thing I don't care for is the automatic screen brightness. I like my screen bright and it tends to get a little to dim when it's on auto matic.
It's the best phone in the world. So snappy, integrated with google. This is the Android experience.
Engadgets Browser Test....... BS
I keep hearing mention of the Engadget's browser test video between the Droid, N1 and IPhone. What they fail to mention is that engadget's site is safari optimized, yes apple's safari! Try any other website, and you'll have vastly different results. They keep saying that the Droid's and N1's performance was "embarrassing", the true embarrassment is the lack of objectivity that engadget has shown when regarding anything apple!
Wow, I didn't know about not charging off miniUSB...that's kinda a bummer, that's how I always charged my G1. Guess I'll have to make sure not to lose my official charger.
I've had it for about 90 minutes so far. Reading Engadget's review made me afraid I was going to have buyer's remorse, but the two things that bothered me the most in their review turn out to be non-issues. I tried out the screen in the bright Los Angeles sun and, at least when the brightness is turned up, it's still usable. The screen reflects a lot of light though, and the glare can make it tough, but you can still see what's on the screen through it just fine. Also, no multitouch is a bummer in most cases, but the multitouch on the Dolphin browser is just as good as the iPhone's, nice and smooth. Finally, page loading for me has been plenty fast, and despite Speedtest saying there's no real change in download speed, it appears to download pages much more quickly (I'm assuming it's due to the page rendering that much faster).
Everything is fast, boot times appear to be under 30 seconds (I didn't time it), no real lag so far, the keyboard is very responsive, scrolling is smooth as glass -- I'm not regretting the purchase in the slightest, though I am feeling a little bad for my poor G1, he served me well for quite some time!

Ive decided to write a quick review of the Galaxy Tab. It may help some of the undecided to make up their mind before release day.
I purchased my device in Russia, though the hardware and some bloatware is from Italy. It is the 16GB model, running stock JK5 firmware.
Specs
Full hardware specifications can be found at GSMArena. They also have a nice 3D view and lots of high res photos.
Price
I paid $1200 for mine in early October - it was one of the very first in town. Can now be had for $800 though. Its unlocked and works flawlessly on both the carriers i subscribe to (MTS and Megafon). No regrets.
Build
Solid as they come. No flex of any kind. Good glossy materials that look expensive. Combined with the SGP Argos case the tab just looks so much richer than an ipad. I think its the Gorilla Glass
Usability
Very easy to hold in one hand and also (importantly for ipad owners) very natural to hold in two. The keyboard can be typed on with the thumbs of both hands in landscape, which is excellent.
The screen is a glossy but sunlight proof Super TFT LCD (aka S-IPS, the same tech as the ipad), with excellent color, good whites and contrast. Color saturation, as well as black/white density are easily adjustable from the settings menu so the picture can be tweaked to taste. Whats more, you can always tilt the tablet just a few degrees in your hand to avoid most reflections - the viewing angles are what youd expect from an IPS display - excellent!
It has been said the display is inferior to the ipad. This is not entirely true - hydis supplies the same tech to both sammy and lg (who assemble ipad displays).
There is a ghosting issue, but it is unnoticeable under normal conditions. I wonder if its connected to the gpu rather than display itself, because it seems quite unlikely that a modern lcd could possibly have such slow response times as to be clearly visible...
My only gripe is the 16:9 resolution, which is not all that useful for viewing web pages. We could have done with a less widescreen form factor (16:10 would have been perfect). That said, it really does fit excellently into almost any jean pocket, and in most of my inside jacket pockets.
Speed
The device boots quickly and the default Touchwiz home launcher is very smooth. Applications scroll smoothly, as does the app drawer. LauncherPro works flawlessly and has the added advantage of removing the taskbar if needed.
The biggest problem Ive encountered speed wise is in the stock 2.2 browser, which is slow to render and unresponsive in my JK5 Tab. Hopefully there will be significant improvements in Gingerbread and Honeycomb, but for now Im using a combination of Dolphin Mini and Firefox/Fennec nighlies.
Apps
The majority of applications i use on my phones work well in high resolution, but there are many out there that do not. I can see that the market has a long way to go before the kind of apps that are available on the ipad appear there too.
There is now a tweak which will stretch most apps to fullscreen perfectly using an app called Spare Parts from the market.
The simple theming options now available from XDA members here should be welcomed by anyone interested in making small tweaks to the interface. In my book this is definitely a win for android in general.
Playback
Annoyingly, youtube videos are pretty crappy. The app seems to do a lot of post-processing, probably because it defaults to a 480p resolution (though i counld be wrong on this). In any case, the ipad is definitely a winner in this department.
For general viewing i use vPlayer Alpha - it plays almost every video with no problems. AVI and MKV files are my mainstay, and to finally use them on an android os device with a gorgeous screen, as they were intended, is a joy.
The Allshare app that streams via DLNA is also quite good, though slow populating lists from my 2tb server. Not to worry though, XDA members have already got cifs.ko working, so head on to the dev section if you want to speed things up.
Also, the internal SD's FAT file system wont allow files larger than 4GB, so you'll have to split your 720p movies. Pretty annoying, all things considered.
The speakers on the device are excellent for listening to music, but in an annoying position if you are holding your tab and watching movies.
Phone, messaging, GPS
The phone works very well. Calls are clear and crisp, though the awful audio is pretty annoying without earphones. The Samsung email app is excellent, especially in landscape mode. A great replacement for gmail. Messaging is also very good and reminds me of handsent sms, but you can always replace it if you're a heavy user.
GPS worked flawlessly for me. Most of the time without A-GPS to conserve battery and accuracy was excellent. Apparently the Orange firmware has superior GPS, so if you are looking to increase the accuracy and acquisition speed a simple tweak is available to everyone with root in the dev section.
Bugs
In the four months Ive been using it, the Tab has exhibited few errors. It runs nice and cool and has experienced very few force closes.
However, i did have trouble connecting to the Kies software for a while. It took some shamanism to get it going at first, but having upgraded to the JK5 OTA everything is now stable on my x64 machine.
The Samsung email app sometimes fails to provide notifications to the taskbar, despite having downloaded mail.
Battery
The battery is excellent. Personally i find that with heavy use (and i don't watch much video) the battery lasts 8-10 hours. In standby it lasts for many days, especially in airplane mode+on demeand wifi. With nonstop use it would probably do no more than 6. I dont use the power saving feature, and brightness is generally set about half way.
Conclusion
The Tab is a great device right now, but i expect it will get a lot better with a few firmware updates down the road. Android at its best.
Pros:
Ergonomic, svelte, fast, good GPS, full market access, almost bug free
Cons:
Annoying aspect ratio, no files larger than 4GB.

Also, I'm having trouble finding quite a few apps in the market. And it's not because they're not available in my country or not compatible with the Galaxy Tab. Latest example: UAE (Amiga emulator) for Android. Works fine, but I had to download it with my G1 and then transfer the apk to the Tab.
On the other hand, I find that the new Youtube client works flawlessly. Fast, smooth, auto-fullscreen in landscape mode. Awesome. Also, the browser is a delight. Blindingly fast (much faster than anything I've tried on my other Android devices) and amazingly intuitive to use (stuff like automatically scaling the text perfectly, ultra smooth pinch-to-zoom, very flexible editing options in textboxes etc.)
Finally, and this seems the weirdest discrepancy of all: My screen is most-certainly not matte. It's high gloss and very attractive to fingerprints.

How very strange... im using webkit to access the android version of igoogle with 10 fully expanded widgets right now. Its definitely not smooth.

$1200 ?!!! Seriously, that much? Not worth it really. I mean I have an Epic 4g so I can attest to how good the Galaxy line is but to pay that much is ridiculous really. No offense though if you can afford it but that's a lot for this thing.
Forgive My Brevity. To Be Or Not To Be...
I share the same experiences as others in regards to the Samsung email client.
It's good but it is slow.
Fortunately, Nitrodesk just released a new version of Touchdown a few days ago which supports Tab devices and has the same layout as the Samsung email app.
The major advantage is that it is not slow at all and has ton of more exchange features.
I also find the browser problematic and slow, with our without flash (just like the SGS). there is something very wrong about the browser sumsung is releasing with 2.2 and i hope it can be fixed with future firmwares.
Strangely enough, using Dolphin HD (which is also using the same libwebcore.so file) is resulting is a slightly better experience.
Other than that i am really enjoying the Tab. there is no lag at all in the OS (minus the browser). Youtube works just fine for me and the video player did play every file i threw at it until now.
I find the battery life very good and i am heavy user. i get more than on full day with heavy use.
You *should* be getting 8 hours usage with screen on (i.e. actual usage).
Update: i do find the task bar drawer to be jittery for some reason on any firmware BUT XXJI5. on JI5 it is super smooth and solid so i am not sire what Samsung hanged in all other firmwares that makes it so slow.
I paid about the same as most eu states for one of 10 that a friend actually shipped from Italy as a test batch. Others are paying 700 to 900 euro.

Couple of web sites indicated that galaxy tab is using atmel screen where it allows using solid objects like stylus and not only finger touch. Could please confirm if stylus working with galaxy tab.
Its a capacitive display, so a capacitive stylus will work.

You should contact "zenus" and review some of those great-looking cases they have. It's a shame they have no reps in Europe... I think they're Korean or sth.

Finally my day off!
This has been a busy week at work and a lot of changes happening so quickly I haven’t had a proper chance to use my Adam as I wanted, but now I can give you a proper review of my experience so far.
First of all I want to share some information about me just so you don’t think im a biased person or working for Notion Ink.
My name is Bruno Alexandre, im 27 years old and im from Portugal, I work in a ISP and in a daily base I deal with equipments of every kind and all kind of applications.
I’m a gadget lover, I simply adore every details that a manufacturer places on a equipment and im very picky about build quality and software design, I prefer a practical design to something with a “bling” effect.
I started following the Adam back on CES 2010, Rohan ideas and vision attracted me, his way of thinking was just what I was looking for, a project that isn’t thought to the “elites” and accessible to everyone, the concept he had back then of the Adam was simple but practical and the way he just showed Slashgear a working concept, instead of just a video or something has we've seen recently on others, shown me he wasn’t there to fool anyone and he believed in it and so did I and that’s how I started to follow Notion Ink. Every update afterwards and the open communication he had with the community was something I have never seen before and I always hoped for from other companies, the project started to get even better with the first sketches of the Adam and continuous information he kept revealing about the hardware and the design behind, to a point I could not stand any more not having it and offered to pay ahead for my Adam, even before the Pre-order was known to public. I think when a project has a future, even coming from a company we never heard before is worth investing it is worth to support, and help in anyway possible.
Hardware & Design
As you have all seen the Adam hardware is no big news, every person that likes gadgets have heard of Tegra 2, Pixel Qi and all the other features, the Adam doesn’t bring nothing new in terms of technological innovation but it does bring a innovation in design.
The way it was built is just great, it was thought to be used on a daily base in any situation imaginable, the golden ratio does make a difference! The past 2 days I have used the Adam as a console, media player, work support and as a organizer, it fulfilled every expectation I had, it felt great in any handling position, feels strong being handled in any situation I came to face during my work, there's no crackling sound or protection caps coming off easily, the fingerprints are as bad as in a smartphone, you even cant feel the real weight it has and balances perfectly even by holding with just one hand while typing with the other! Have you ever tried to use the IPAD like that ? It just wobbles on your hand unless you have a case.
My colleagues at work also tried it and they were astonished how a small company from India was able to produce such equipment, they never even heard of Notion Ink or Adam, and they just loved to work with it. One of the biggest praises was the responsiveness of the touch screen and how smooth it was on Canvas to draw a line compared with a smartphone, the processing power and the speed of opening apps, video playback and specially the sniffer, many of them were Android users and they loved it.
Everything looks too perfect doesn’t it, well now its time for the bad parts, the screen protector first of all was awful, as bad as HTC screen protectors for smart-phones all the glare and reflections plus washed out colours made me rage, so I took it off and it felt much better.
The viewing angles of Adam are not very good either, not when compared with my Asus 1005HA LED Backlit screen or the Ipad, but it wasn’t meant to be looked from the side but head-on to be able to read so I take this as a small drawback.
The screen calibration in terms of brightness to contrast ratio is very bad, you notice it more when using at dark environment like the video shows below, but this is something that I think it could be easily fixed if we had the proper tools to mess with it like a normal desktop monitor OSD. (if there’s such tool please tell me since im a android newbie)
Pixel Qi, well this really does feel great, even tho sun is lacking here in Portugal this past days, ive used the Adam on the outside a lot and I love how the pixel qi works, it feels amazing being able to read everything without any problems, unique experience. Indoors even with low light conditions for example in bed with the night stand lamp it was readable or ( you will lol ) in the toilet !
Sound quality was just .. man it was awesome, its louder than the Asus 1005HA and the bass is much better, connected to a sound system is just gives enough juice to make it worth, lacks some equalizer but I think there’s apps out there to do the job.
Camera is one of those things there’s not much to talk about, it's a 3.2 camera like many phones have, the swivel does make it good because you can just point it to what you want, using Google Goggles with it is very cool, the design here helps again, with one hand you can easily stabilize the Adam while the responsiveness of the screen helps out the shooting.
The battery when tested at work was empty after 8 hours of people messing with it, playing watching videos, testing VPN connections, downloading and navigating using the canvas, it was madness the number of fingerprints on the Adam, but it was still very readable. You could only notice the fingerprints on the borders.
Software
Well the software is another issue, the idea behind Eden is good and I love the leaves, but not every application seem to have gone under proper testing or QA, they don’t fit well with each other and don’t respond properly sometimes to the commands you give to it, one of the examples is facebook tool, the cramped look of it and the minimized information makes it really annoying to work with.
The lack of Android Market to be able to get some of the Google Apps made the experience even worst, if Genesis isn’t ready yet then the Android Market should still exist in the meanwhile.
Mail app is very good, I enjoy the UI and how simple it looks while having every feature you need, its also very useful in a job like mine where im constantly receiving emails.
QuickOffice is also great, I work a lot with excel, acrobat, word and having the Adam around is a excellent working tool, I can give support to my colleagues in real time without having to go from one side to the other getting the information they need and taking time which is essential in my job.
The browser, I was kinda of disappointed with the UI from the browser, it felt.. wrong.. hard to explain, but once I got to work with the tabs I just loved how it felt, the idea of placing them like that helps a lot when you are consulting online or trying to get updated with the latest news in the gadget world, it was a fast experience with flash always loading in the websites quickly and with no issues.
The Video Player, had some issues, as you may have noticed on the video above, the sound and video were de-sync, I was using .wmv tried also .mkv and other formats, thought it was a issue with the internal SD Card, used my external one Class 6 and had the same issue, must be codec wise.
In the end I just preferred on having the LauncherPRO as my main screen since I could customize with every widget I wanted, with no limitations whatsoever as you can see on the video below, at least until NI can deliver a better interface or Honeycomb is out.
Conclusion
I'm not an expert reviewer, nor I have experience in reviewing equipments, some of you may not agree with me on some aspects but in the end this was my experience, and I just wanted to share with you all. I enjoy every day with the Adam I have, and it will be my main support at home and works to organize my life.
Do I regret buying the Adam ? No I do not, the Adam is a great tablet.
Would I prefer the Xoom over the Adam ? I wont pay $700 for a barometer, but … I wouldn’t mind having the quality of its screen. Also I had Motorola equipments before and my experience was bad.. not with 1 but more than 4..

Rohan mentioned that they are working on honeycomb. If NI doesn;t bring it, the adam is pretty close to ASOP android, so I'm sure that the developers here will port it to the adam.

Do you think the video playback de-sync is because of the player?
Meaning that with another player this would not happen?

I have been using Eden UI on G-Tab for a few days now, and I agree that it takes a little getting used to...and some of the Apps like Mail'd are good. Browser is so-so...and the keyboard could have used "Autoprompts" for words.

2) Laputa ebook reader - Very cool app, i like the flipping pages transition and its very smooth and accurate, the books can be read very well. Also the thick part of the adam is excelent to grab and makes the reading experience much higher.

Yeah reading e-books is awsome, comics is something i havent tried as a appbut ive been at some comic websites and its very cool.
Try jjComics Viewer if you can, The main use for me is read e-books and comics....
For ebooks im using Aldiko, that can be conected with Calibre

Title says it all, what doesn't live up to your expectations? We've seen in the reviews that the screen isn't viewable in daylight and the buttons get stuck. Have you experienced this? What else?
I've only had it for a half hour or so but the display seems no different than my iPad that I had before it (in terms of visibility in different lighting conditions).
What buttons get stuck? I only see a power button on the back...
Anyways, I have no dislikes at the moment aside from the lack of microSD support right now.

Engadget's review said the volume buttons would get stuck from time to time. Also said the power button got stuck, forcing a shutdown.
Please compare and contrast with your iPad. Does the pixel density look worse? Have you tried reading a book on it? Have you seen it in direct sunlight (some reviews say it's completely unusable in direct sunlight)? Are the speakers bad, being on the back side and all?
It's cloudy out today so I doubt I'll be able to check in sunlight. My iPad was unusable in direct sunlight.
Reading a book in portrait mode works wonderfully (I use Kindle, not the google app). Worked great on my iPad as well.
Pixel density... seems about the same as the iPad visually. If I look for them, I can see pixels... though I have to stick my face within a foot of it to do so.
As I'm at work, I'll check the speakers later... I can't compare them to my iPad since I never used them before. I use a bluetooth headset for everything (phone, laptop, tablet).
I played with the volume and power buttons a bit, but I couldn't get them to stick.
No serious problems so far, though in some ways, the GMail client is less intuitive than I had hoped. For example, on the web, my priority inbox will move read emails to my inbox, but on the Xoom, they stay in my priority inbox, just marked as read. It makes for more clutter than I prefer.
But I'm an early adopter. I expect stuff like this.

Browser loads mobile sites by default, with no option to change the user-agent (that I can find anyway)
no ad-hoc support, but I knew this from the start (hopefully can be patched soon)
and on a side note, the screen seems a bit on the lower quality side, BUT I have not yet removed the plastic film, it looks crystal clear, so I cant imagine it will have much of an impact, but it could just be me.
Button placement for sure. Trying to learn my way around it, doesn't feel as intuitive as my ipad but I am learning Also hate the power cord situation.
Speaking of power cord I don't get that either I mean WTF Moto looks like they stole a charger from Nokia...

This is why I'm waiting outside for costco to open. They don't push as hard.
Just got home with my new Xoom...
Display - Pretty good but not nearly as great as the iPad's.. nor is it as bright as the iPad. Pixel density looks A LOT like the iPad.. I can't really say the Xoom is any sharper than the iPad.. Whites look much better on the iPad.. they definately have a much higher color gamut and contrast ratio on the iPad. This is disappointing considering how much the Xoom costs off-contract. The Xoom screen looks nearly identical to what Samsung uses on their Galaxy Tab 7". Viewing angles are "decent" but again, not as good as iPad. I would say they are using a cheap PVA type panel, not IPS on this unit. PVA is still much better than TN at least.
Weight - Same weight as iPad.. so to me, it feels too heavy for it's size... but I think the Xoom is much easier to hang onto/hold because of it's widescreen nature'd body.
Speed - Depending on apps I guess.. or how optimized they are.. Angry Birds Seasons (the tablet version) runs like crap compared to Angry Birds on my Galaxy Tab.. not sure why.. Web browsing is a real treat.. Definately renders web sites faster than the iPad.. content is ready to explore at a much faster pace.. However, scrolling isn't as nice as it is on the iPad.. I don't know why Android can't get scrolling anywhere near iOS's Safari. Scrolling is choppy and clunky depending on how many pictures are needed to be shown on the screen at one time. Quadrant scores LOWER than my Galaxy Tab.. Could be Quadrant's not optimized well enough for the Tegra2 platform.
Battery Life - I will have to edit this in later.. my Xoom came out of the box with 77% life..
Interface/UI - I actually like Honeycombs UI.. the quick-softkeys are delightful to use.. especially to multitask with.. Flying between apps is instantaneous and snappy.. much faster than iPad's multitasking.
I'll post more later.. going back to playing with the Xoom.

Power button placement is pretty bad. It's especially an issue with the Moto Portfolio case. That thing, although well manufactured, is poorly designed (covers all the charging/usb ports.)
The system is a little laggy in some parts.
Very few tablet specific apps. So, Kindle app for example, looks fine but isnt utilizing the extra resolution. Ipad version will show two page layout, Honeycomb wont (for now.)
I don't see where people are getting the menu lag from, i've had absolutely none so far. The power button placement is PERFECT, are you guys kidding? The device was designed for optimized landscape view and when you hold it with both hands, it's right there ready to be pressed without having to readjust. This may be different for portrait but I don't plan on using it much.
Connectivity issues with android market as usual but thats typical, they need to fix that, asap.
Angry Birds Seasons is NOT laggy, again, don't know where you're getting that from.
And i'm looking at my Ipad and the xoom side by side and the screen quality on the Ipad is not "considerably" better. Slightly, if even that.
One big negative, lot's of force closes when I try to multi task a lot. This is VERY disappointing, and if it continues, i'll be returning the device.
The screen brightness/quality/angle view is not as good as the iPad, it seems heavy for its size, although the screen is bigger then the iPad it seems smaller because of the aspect ratio. Battery seems to drain fast, maybe it needs to be conditioned. Occasional lag in the UI.
On the plus side the speaker is pretty loud.
To summon it up: currently not overly impressed.
I hate that the browser shows mobile sites. I don't see an option to change the user agent. It's stupid to have to install a different browser, but I guess that's what I gotta do.

Go to: "about:debug"
You won't see anything. Then go into the settings and there should be a debug section where you can change the user agent to desktop. Someone posted this in another thread, worked well for me.

Thanks! The setting in debug is called uastring. Took me a while to realize.
Love the general feel and speed, mostly, of it. Most apps are faster than my X. Still playing with them.
Sling player (one of my favorite apps on my X) is useless, dial-up would work better, freezes and jumps. Video/audio NEVER in sync. Sometime emits a loud screech when un-freezing. (w/3G and all bars)
YouTube is terrible (same video compared to PC), like its always out of focus, contrast levels WAY off.
Hate the placement of the ports. Have to hold it upside down to use when charger is attached. I would have done this when placing it in the portfolio case (cheep and clumsy feeling) but then you cant get to the power button! DUMB, DUMB, DUMB design.
Cant find the setting to get the display to not time out when it on charge!
Cant get into my company website (can with my droid x) I think the new browser has TLS security set and I need to turn it off.
Generally I like it and will come up with work-arounds for most of the issues it's the first one out and both xoom and 3.0 need work and will mature with time. I do thin I will keep it.

I'm surprised that they called out quite a few bugs in the software (and the unresponsiveness of the UI). I hope next few OTAs would fix the issues. But being Engadget, I think they have a slight bias.
I truely think there is no such thing as bug-free product. There will be bugs just as long as they aren't damaging to the point they can't be fix...ever. Lengthy review. Hopefully a review like this will not force Asus to delay release.
Its funny reading the comments at Engadget, a lot of negative feedback, towards the transformer and the review
I think the review was good, but it seemed he was nitpicking the littlest things
Particularly the lag issue with the web browser, which i didn't really notice in other review videos
And i am disappointed he didnt take the price into account for the score
I'm not sure about that review - A few things he is correct about and I'd like to see (like a notification light system) but other issues are clearly software related and sped will improve dramatically over the next month or so (I don't actually find it slow).
I have the Asus, the iPad 1 and the NI ADAM, and it is the ASUS I go to. For outdoor viewing I'd use the ADAM but all the other tablets are too reflective unless a matte screen protector is installed, so I don't know why he makes a fuss about it on the Asus.
Just read the review. Agree with most of what they say about it. The camera app isnt good, I get bad fps in videos too. Yes, it's a reflective screen, but then all tablets i've seen are the same. I disagree on the UI responsiveness though. Feels better than the ipad, and i've not had a problem launching apps or clicking on things. I can't comment on the keyboard dock obviously. Yeah it's not a perfect device but then there won't ever be one. There's meant to be a fota update out tomorrow so we'll see what it fixes.
8/10 from me for just the tablet part. Possible 9/10 if the keyboard dock is as they say.

The good news however is that most, if not all of this stuff should be fixed with a few updates.

I did notice that the guy obviously doesn't know that much about Android. For example, the reason that you can't kill apps from the multitasking menu is that you don't need to - Android manages this itself.
Also, it seems like he was reviewing a pre-release model. Things like his comment on the lack of scrollpad multitouch were directly contradicting reports from those who have actually bought the device.

If I remember informations from users of Transformer that I read both issues are easy to avoid right now. Keyboard: use different one. Browser: use different one. Done.
It also bugs me in general when people refer to it as a "multitasking menu." It's not--it's a recent apps menu. It'll show an app in the list even if it's no longer actually running, and it's not meant to be a complete list of all running apps.
I clarified my position on engadget reviews two times in the comments below the review. Just look for my name
I can't stand their way of nagging on little things on the one device (as long as it runs Android) and turn a blind eye on it on other devices (as long as they run iOS). I'm not especially an Apple-hater, it's more the general way Engadget reviews without hard facts, their reviews are more a personal opinion instead of a professional review. I would be ok with that when they wouldn't give a rating that will influence potential customers.

I don't know if i can call that Engadget "Review" a Review? So many things left out from it, Things i would of loved to see them show in the Review were.
1.Google Maps (GPS)
2.Polaris office
3.Flash in different websites other than that flash whore Engadget.
4.Asus own apps (DNLA etc)
5.The Keyboard SD slot shown working at the same time with the Micro?
I really hate that they always want to compare it to the Ipad 2 when clearly the apple device lacks gps, flash, and other things but gets praised by the media. the problem i find with that is that is that other websites do the same.
I for one dont care if the camera is buggy because its fixable with an update,i Rather have a working SD slot than a perfect camera its not like im gonna be taking pictures and videos with the tablet. Also when are people going to care that much about pinch to zoom being as "fast" as the ipad? for me as long as it works thats it i hardly use it, i always double tap to zoom in.
Im no expert but i expect the Iphone 4/ Ipad 2 to have fast scrolling left and right i mean it doesnt need to use any real horsepower to draw on screen to those cutesy little blocks on their homescreen called apps when in Honeycomb3.0 you have lots of things happening everything from widgets, notifications, the transitions 3D esque i mean those little things should not really affect the user experience i for one can't wait for this tablet in the us.
It's Engadget, what did you expect?
They have a CLEAR bias towards Apple products. I love how they mention (amongst other things) "the proprietary connector" as being bad. And Apple uses a standard micro USB port on their devices? Right...and they don't say anything when they review these products.
Of the issues they found:
camera lag - yep it's there.
reflective screen - yes, but not as bad as they claim (I use it outside and don't have issues unless I aim the screen to deliberately reflect the sun).
browser lag - not for me. If I scroll as fast as I can on engadget I can get it to stutter a tiny bit, but not as bad as in their video.
Browser zoom issues - no issues for me on most websites - engadget is the buggiest one but that site is so poorly written it can lock my firefox up if left open for a while. As for the incorrect rendering of pages I've not seen it on any site...
Laggy keyboard - yeah the asus one is a little laggy. Switching to the honeycomb stock one instantly fixes that problem though.
Input lag - I laughed at this - it is not lag, but an elasticity effect on moving icons and the unlock button. Basically a deliberate UI effect
Unresponsive touches - I don't get this. Maybe they're holding it wrong
The review failed to look at the quality of the speakers in the transformer, probably as they're pretty good srs surround speakers and the ipad only has a mono speaker which isn't very good, so I won't expect them to cover the speaker quality until the ipad gets better speakers. anyone here with the keyboard dock can confirm the problems with the usb and sd slot not working and need to be reboot. also their problem with the tablet not sensing its disconnected with the dock and not allowing the tablet keyboard to load?
also anyone know how much memory can the keyboard dock hold? can you plug in two usb sticks and a sd card at the same time?
I'm glad they mentioned the things they did, hopefully Google/Asus will take note and get them sorted.
Has anyone got the keyboard dock yet, appart from journos? Don't think I've heard of any...
I also like how he states that the touchpad doesn't have multi-touch....when it does.

I know they say that, but I don't buy it on the phones - I find I do need to kill apps.
And the reason for some stutter and lag is exactly because the system tries to do something fails and then gets rid of an app in memory and tries again.
