Apple Seeks Injunction Against GT 10.1 (US) - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/19/apple-files-again-for-a-preliminary-ban-against-samsung/
Well..... Good luck with that.
Meanwhile, do you think this will have any effect on our update? Slow it down? Speed it up???
Why not go after the new one?

I hate Apple now.

Apple must have some pretty low self confidence if they are trying to ban their competition instead of trying to do what all the other companies do.. Make a better product.

Apple successfully tricked Samsung lawyers in to admitting that they, from their table, could not identify which tablet was which (iPad vs Galaxy Tab). Not only that but their tablet is far outselling ours.
Maybe Samsung needs to make a better product. Just saying.

I think if the iPad is outselling the Galaxy Tab 10.1, then all this is not even necessary. I just hope Samsung doesnt stop working on this tablet. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is out anyways.

If Apple wasn't afraid of Samsung, they wouldn't try to ban them from selling their products. And just because those lawyers work for Samsung, doesn't mean they use their tab, or any tab for that matter. So if they couldn't tell the difference, maybe they're just not tech savvy. To anyone who uses either tab, you can definitely tell the difference. Obviously they are going to look similar, they are both tablets. It's just like Samsung suing magnavox because their tv looks like a tv.. They all look the same. Can't do too much to make a tablet look different, other than change the color.

I agree, apple stinks. Competition is good for development. Aplle has this self righteous attitude that they created everything. Then the stuff they do produce is not enough to supply the original demand. They think that they are this really cool club and only the lucky selected people can come in. Anyway, the suit is about slide lock, how petty!

It makes sense. They already lost the phone war. They are trying to win the tablet war. So far the numbers are on their side but if they keep loosing sales it will be the same as with phones. They will be selling tabs to less than 40 percent of the tab buyers...

Nope. The iPhone is outselling any handset Samsung is offering. Android has to group all their handsets together to make it seem like it's doing better, when in actuality if you look at this from a manufacturer point of view you start seeing their failures.
And we all know Android numbers are padded with tonnes of lower end crappy android devices.

I hate Android phones, not Android as a whole. I think Android belongs on tablets. My phone should be fast, powerful, and easy to use, with minimal crashing and issues. Hence the iPhone. But a tablet should be more like a PC, which is why I put up with a laggy tablet instead of an iPad.
Anyway, I'm not arguing about the OS itself. Just that the numbers are wrong. Only 1 person makes the iPhone and the iPhone 4S is outselling every other handheld out there. When you bring Android devices together they sell more, because there's like 1000 devices and a lot of them are cheap, low end ones that are appealing to people that want an iPhone, but can't afford one.

You're right, the 4s is outselling every other handset. Toyota (as a whole) is also outselling the Honda Civic (see what I did there). Your logic is nonsense, but if it makes you feel better about your phone then tell believe what you'd like.

I sell Android devices at work all the time instead of iPhones. Because we have an extra incentive on the high end Android devices. Galaxy S 2, Galaxy S 2 HD, Galaxy Note, HTC Raider/Evo, the new LG Optimus. And all I can see is crashes, laggy UI (even in ICS) and fragmentation issues. I don't want to wait months for an official update like we are with our Galaxy Tabs. Sure I could and have put on a custom ROM, but things are missing, not working, etc. Point being I prefer the speed and power of an iPhone and it's reliable updates. Nothing against Android. I just don't see it as a good phone OS yet.

Nope. My logic is spot on. No other handset can beat it's sales numbers 1 on 1. I could care less about OS share.

Why should we not compare them 1 on 1 for sales? iPhone 4S vs Galaxy S 2. iPhone sold more. iPhone 4S vs any other handset? iPhone hassold more. I don't get why everyone thinks it's such an accomplishment that Android has a bigger overall OS share. Low end devices that have bad life cycles and never get updated isn't my idea of how a phone or tablet should be. Hopefully we can get an Android developer who's on the ball with these things, making updates available quickly.

Hm I would sell it and either wait for an iPhone 5 June/July or take the SGS II. It is just about your needs. Big hands and gorgeous screen --> SGS II
Most beautiful apps and polished and awesome build quality: iPhone

SGSII but since it's not out yet, Cappy all the way.
iOS and Android, I will pick Android.
Apple and Samsung, I will pick Apple.
Also.. the iPhone 4 screen shatters with barely a strong glance at the GLASS screen.
Don't mention the word Apple or iPhone on xda. The mentally challenged will come out and bite rabidly. A better place would be HowardForums.
I would sell the iPhone 4 if you are comfortable with an x10. A sealed box will sell for a good price. Then you can wait for the SGS2. The iPhone 5 probably won't be announced until June, which is quite a while. I wouldn't buy anything right now though, since the stuff on the market right now isn't really an upgrade from what you already have.

OP, if you like the SGS2 then wait for it, or wait for iP5 see what apple puts out.
I am doing that right now, between SGS2 or iP5.
Most of the stuff you will get here is android fans, but in reality apple has much better hardware than anything on android (my opinion). The OS, well they are pretty similar, if you want your phone to just work apple all the way, if you want to customized then go android.
Just be aware that iPhone can also be customized by jailbreaking.
I have a 3GS that's almost 2 years old and it's working as good as day one.

Reality and personal opinion don't mix sadly. Anyway, depends what you mean by "hardware". Apple A4 was Samsung's Hummingbird, just with a lower clock and a slower GPU. Overall build quality may be better... until it falls and you're left with cracked glass all over the phone. Antennagate? Not sure about the much better now...
Software and integration is another story, that's where iOS definitely wins.

It's all relative to needs.
Sure, the iP is a pretty piece of hardware backed up but the brand fandom. everyone has it, everyone wants one.
As far as jailbreaking goes, the cat and mouse update/jailbreak game with apple gets old really fast... Every update of iOS patches something that dev team fixes and then they fix it and apple releases another update and .... you get the idea.
Jailbreaking every two months, playing with the unlocked baseband and risking ending up with a brick is no fun.
Personally I've decided to move away from every apple product, because apple doesn't necessarily have the greatest most advanced hardware, what they do have is massive marketing department with lots of talented people to make people want those devices (just look at apple product placement in the media).
In the end, it's a matter of usability, preference and what works for the individual; at this point in time, the iP4 is clearly outdated compared (hardware wise) to the devices coming out right now or in the coming month (Atrix, SGS2, etc...) and they will have had 6-7 months to prepare and get the iP5 design ready and produced by June-July-Sept with better hardware based on what they saw coming out from the competition at the CES and other events. By the time apple is done promoting their revolutionary iP5, Motorola, HTC and Samsuncg will have come up with somthing better based on the iP5 specs...
The cel phone war will never end, it will be the eternal peeing contest between large companies. As far as the consumer is concerned, we're just trapped in a vicious cycle we have created.
For me what weighs in, is the ability to have full control of my device. Therefore iP is a no go and thus a lesser device in my perception. Atrix was on top of the list until the Moto fiasco with the signed bootloader. The remaining option is the SGS2 depending on how easy it will be to update without relying on Samsung to do so.
On a side note, I've been using a iP3G since it came out and haven't upgraded the device, so I've been with it for almost 4 years; and seeing all these new android devices coming out everyday makes me hate it more day by day.
Android, for me, offers many more possibilities of growth than iOS will ever be able give me. I am not limited by a company as far as what I can do with the hardware that I hold in my hands.
I would rather take an operating system that is designed to let me do anything to it per my own needs and requirements than one that is marketed to the masses for mass consumption. There is nothing wrong with either, it is all preference. Apps fail to interest me as I have a busy and fun enough life to not care about too many of them In fact many people around me have pages of apps which i rarely see being launched except for the odd score checking/email app.
There is no point in comparison of the phone. In fact I would like it if Android makes its own features and chooses its direction instead of following iOS.
Well I would say to just use for a little while and see if you like it. If you do, great. If you don't, sell it.
Either way you could sell one now or keep both and sell both layer then the SG2 comes out.

Do you think our SGSII is a Superphone or Smartphone?
After reading this article on Techradar http://bit.ly/zkfg44 , I would suggest a Superphone.

Nothing really..Iphones are good and solid phones as i use to own one..But coming over to android i wished i made the move sooner.

There won't be a superphone until Apple releases something that they call a superphone.
And quit comparing this phone to an iPhone trying to make it look superior. If you are truly superior, you don't try to kick others down beyond reason.

Superphone has different meanings..For me my phone is a superphone. It does so many things compare to what i use to do with my iphone and i can customize it more beyond i ever could with my iphone so for me my phone is a superphone. But to say kicking others down beyond reason because i think my phone is better there you are wrong.
Comparing phones is nothing. Everyone does that..Just look at all the fanboys. And all the arguments with which is better..Android is iOS. That is silly with the way some people act. But you can never stop that no matter how hard you try. Regarding the issue here if i think my Galaxy is better. Yes it is. Would i go as far as having a debate with someone who has an iphone. No i wont as i do not see the point. The phone is for me to enjoy and if someone else does not value my opinion regarding my phone i do not care as i think it is the one for me..All i can give is give a recommendation and opinion.

Randomly I was thinking about this issue today... And I decided (in my own head) that iOS and WP7 are not smartphones, just clever feature-phones. Their limitations and walled-garden (iOS and to an extent WP7) stop them being classed as mini-computers (again, in my head!).
My definition is matched by the S2, with the main requirements (hardware-wise) being HDMI-out and WiFi keyboard/mouse, to give me the desktop experience at home, and (software) rooted Android. I realised last week that I never expect to need to spend money with Microsoft again, as Android has almost matured into a fully-fledged mobile/PS Operating System (with some caveats).
But I definitely agree with Princeomi, the final super-phone requirement for me is battery life of at least 48 hours of moderate/decent usage.
When I had a Nokia5800 that was a smartphone. Nokia5800 vs SII, SII kicks its ass with God power!

A "superphone" is just another marketing term imo, and Techradar is generally full of BS.
Smartphone being a phone that runs a OS that is able to run 3rd party apps (distributed via package or via app store/market/w.e), will have a data modem, and lots of connectivity (wifi/bluetooth), normally means devices running android, WP7, IOS, BBOS, symbian (RIP) and even Winmob or bada.
Feature phone being a phone that has most of the features that one would consider a smartphone to have but without a real source of applications (eg phones running Qualcomm BREW) also doesn't normally cover phones that can only run java ME applets.
Feature phones are mostly dying, with android extending down into the space they normally filled between classic phones and smartphones.
Most of that was tl;dr but meh!
I think my phone is pretty Thuper.

Wait for iPhone 5? Or go with S3

I know both are totally different phones and I am not trying to compare them at all. But considering the price tag it is pretty much where iPhone 5 will be. So anybody sharing the same thought to compare S3 and iPhone 5 side by side to decide which one to buy.
By the way I was hoping that my next phone will be LTE capable. S3 is not there and I think iPhone may also not be since they have to manufacture specifically region specific. Any ideas if S3 plans to support LTE later

It's always better to compare them side by side, but it's going to be a long wait, as the iPhone 5 probably isn't due for at least a couple of months. I'd rather be playing with a new phone, than waiting for an unannounced phone.
Hello ,I am too confused like you.I have aleardy SIII and don't know to sell and wait iPhone 5.But I decide to remain on SIII because this phone is really great don't have big problems with him and I don't know what to say about iPhone but if SII is better than iPhone 4-4S , probably this thing repeatly with SIII and iPhone 5.
Sorry Android>iOS
To be honest I can't stand the iPhone or its operating system. It will be super small a measly 4 inch screen that's even if the rumors are true. The S3 is 4.8. Android just works.... a ton better than iOS. I would never go back to an apple product. But if you like it go ahead and get. But i will point and laugh at you

What do you mean S3 isn't there? LTE will be on all North American and the NTT Docomo version plus 2 gigs of ram. If you want an answer on which device to buy, dont come to a thread dedicated to the iP5s biggest competitor and expect to hear any answers in favor of it. Just wait for the iPhones release and play with it side by side of the S3. My guess the only new thing in iOS 6 will be a trumped up lawsuit against Google.

I have iPhone 4S, GS2 and GS3 and I rarely use the iPhone.
GS2 in my opinion is better than iPhone 4S so I truly expect GS3 to still perform better when iPhone 5 is out.

You probably wont have to wait. Odds are Apple is going to show off the iPhone at WWDC 2012 which is June 11-15, and usually they release them to the public not to long after showing them off.
In Android world SGS3 will be outdated by the time iPhone5 and next Nexus comes out around October/November. In fact Samsung may have an updated Note or may be an upgraded SGS3 kind of device with super amoled plus HD, it's quite possible.
But the thing is SGS3 is available to buy now and it's an awesome device. There will be always better devices coming in the distant future after buying any device.
Also about the price tag $$800 for a device that does what Apple says or $800 for a device that does what you want it to. If you enjoy the customization of Android then go that route, if you want a phone that has seven hundred million accessories go with iPhone. But by all means don't base your decision on others' thoughts.
Frankly speaking go wid SGS 3 . By the time iPhone 5 will come out samsung wud ve already readied or in the process of readying SGS3 successor so u wud put the same question again Wait for SGS 4 ? Or go with iPhone 5.
If u want phone for fun go with sgs3 if u want a boring OS with almost similar maybe slightly better app support then go with iPhone 5
For all we know, iPhone 5 could be this juggernaut with 99999999 new features. But:
1) That's the thing: we don't know.
2) Considering that previous upgrades have been pretty much incremental (and indeed, they pride themselves on this and call it "consistency"), I wouldn't personally hold my breath. After all, apple has such product differentiation with their iSheep that they don't need to actively compete in order to maintain their sales. (This is to say nothing of their usage of litigation rather than competition.) But again, this is just my personal guess; they could have adopted a completely new strategy, for all I know.
What's well-known, though, is that other stuff would come out around that same time: the Note II, the Nexii to list the best known examples. Whether you want to wait for these is down to your preferences.
But the iPhone 5 itself is just a big black box. One that I don't think is worth holding your breath on.

I doubt it, but if the OP wants to wait 2 weeks to find out, that's not unreasonable.

Great thread
Being part of the Apple of family for many years, currently owning a MBP, new iPad, iPhone 4 and an Apple TV, I am in the same boat. My contract expires in a month and torn between waiting for the 5 or switching to android and the SGS III. Even if a little biased, this forum is one of my main daily sources to check and help me make up my mind.
So thats that, keep the opinions coming..
I had a 4S, then the Note and now the S3. The S3 is very grown up, better than the 4S in many ways and looks better. Personally I would get the S3 as its available now and is a great phone. When the 5 is available check it out. You can then decide if you want to sell.
Unless iOS 6 starts offering widgets and customisation to the extent of android then I would stay with android. If you use iTunes and have a lot of media then iPhone 5 might be better.

No, Apple cant now copy Android because it would mean that IOS sucks. SO homescreens on IOS would be an himiliation for Apple.

You're best staying with Apple as it sounds like you love that ecosystem. Throwing in another OS at this point could just bring complications unless you have a great urge for 100% customisation.
And I suspect an upgrade from a iPhone 4 to a iPhone 5 will be a lot more noticeable than 4 to a 4S.

Foxconn CEO: "New iPhone will put Galaxy S III to shame"

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Foxconn-Hon-Hai-Galaxy-S-III-iPhone-5-apple,16090.html
I nearly chuckled when I saw this one.
I guess that means it must run Android then, because if it runs iOS it doesnt stand a chance of doing so..
Lets be frank here, it will look much the same as the current iPhone (boring), it will feel much the same to use (boring), it will be locked down and restricted like the current iPhone (boring), and will have the same (boring) baristas, emos are douches queueing up for it on day one. Ill pass.
Is it a ploy from apple to stop people from buying s3??

Galaxy s3 has already made iphone 5 to shiver...the big thing is...iphone 5 is yet a prototype and apple feared that Galaxy may put iphone 5 to shame so they pleadged to ban s3 sales in usa... now tel me whos afraid ??? and whos ashamed??..

At this point Apple buyers are like BMW buyers, they will buy any old ridiculous turd as long as it has the badge on, so really statements like this are just sermons for the iSheep, and pretty meaningless to the rest of us. As long as Apple makes it they will buy it, why? because Apples says its best and therefore it is. Its almost a religion now..
But dude, it has an apple logo.
...
Some rumors I've read claim that it will be equipped with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4.
I think that a good optimization can make the difference, placing Apple's smartphone between HTC One S and Android quad-core phones.
IMHO Apple will put a enormous capacity battery into the iPhone...
I guess since we're comparing a phone that will be out several months later that doesn't even exist yet; we'll compare it to another like phone... I'm sure the GSIV will put the iPhone 5 to shame then lol.

I cant see that, Apple will want their own CPU in there (and by that i mean a modified Samsung as the A4 and A5 were). It will probably have the A5x.
PErsonally I'm quite excited for the iPhone 5 and what it will bring.
Having had a look at the rubbish minor "new" features for iOS, I'm thinking Apple will have drastically improved the hardware of iPhone 5.
That is good for the whole industry
I'm sure the new iPhone will be excellent. Without new iPhones and new Galaxy's wouldn't it get boring. These companies need to push out great phones to keep giving us great products.

I don't think smarts has anything to do with it really. Rooting and installing ROM's is a whole lot easier than jailbreaking and using it's related tools, etc..
I just think the 'average' Android user and the 'average' iOS user could really care less..
every new device,if the job is done well, is goint to become leader at the time of its introduction it will be same with iphone 6 and then again with galaxy s4, etc.

I think it was a clever move by foxconn. The more people that get the s3 the less that will be available 2 sign up for a 2 year contract on the new iphone and the less orders foxconn will receive . And consequently the less money they make.
I personally think the iphone is easier for people to use who are novices. And it's more stable. However the s3 if you know how can do so much more.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
Ok before I get started I would like to stress I am no fanboy of either apple or android... I simply like good products... So no flaming please.
Now down to business, the biggest problem with the S3 (yes I own one) is the fact that samsung (and all non GED devices to be fair) seem to forget the fundamental rule... Optimize the software to run effectively on the hardware. The galaxy nexus (Yes I own one) for me runs just as fast as the s3 in terms of web browsing and general use... Yes the animations are slightly smoother on the s3 but how is it possible for the browser to not have any significant speed improvement??
Fact of the matter is that apple will optimize the iPhone 5 to the extent that it doesn't need the hardware the s3 has to run as fast (rest assured as always it always does, will flatten the s3 in benchmarks and browser speeds).
Apple seem to understand that optimisation is the way forward and this is why the next Nexus is a no brainer... Touchwiz can do all it does but it will never run as smoothly nor work as well as AOSP.

Buying a phone for the resale value is worse than the people who hold off on buying a new phone forever because the want to always have the top phone.

I have a feeling this thread is going to get hectic
I'm will buy the iPhone 5 when it is available because:
- it is an iPhone
- it is the best device
- Apple is the best company
- iPhone is more expensive than other devices so it has to be better
- Everyone has an iPhone
- All the Actors, Actresses and Entertainers have an iPhone
- the iPhone is heavy and built strong
- it has a lot of apps
- people wait on long lines for the iPhone so it has to be the best phone or people wouldn't wait on the long lines
- the iPhone is indestructible
- I want to support Steve Jobs.
- it has the Apple logo which looks cool, and people known that I am Hip
- having one shows I don't follow the crowds, and am able to make my own decisions.
- the iPhone has basically remained unchanged for years, so it must be the best device, as other manufactures keep changing their devices because they are subpar.
- it doesn't have a removable battery or SD card because it adds weight and it's better not to have them. It makes the iPhone more indestructible,
- when Apple decides it is in the best interest of their customers to do so, Apple will make changes to the iPhone.
If I think of any more Great reasons to own the iPhone. especially the Great iPhone 5, I'll be sure to post them.
I hope the above reasons haven explained why the iPhone is the Best, and helps others to make their decisions based on these Facts.
Thank you.
UPDATE:
- I know people who have told me that they have accidentally went swimming with the iPhone in both the Pool and the Ocean. The iPhone continued to work without consequence. This means the iPhone is also Waterproof. Apple doesn't say this because of Liability reasons, But this is just Another reason to buy the iPhone. UNBELIEVABLE!!
Update #2:
- The iPhone 4s has been used by Astronauts to make phone calls and texts from the I.S.S.
Some of Astronauts have even been able to use Apps from the International Space Station.
They have even used Apple's GPS system to guide the Shuttle back to Planet Earth when the native system failed.
Simple Amazing!
Imagine what the iPhone 5 will be able to contribute to society!!
The iPhone....... Truly a Smartphone Above & Beyond the boundaries of Planet Earth!!
Now throw those Androids away, and pick up the iPhone 5 when it's made available!!
I coudn't resist
Galaxy S3 all the way! Had mine for a few weeks, rooted it, and put CM10 (Jelly Bean) rom on it. The thing is amazing! So snappy, battery life is excellent ~13.5hrs today with 30% left to go.
IMO, android allows more customization and cheaper apps (amazon market has free app of the day). I cannot agree with Apple's business model of f'ing the customer. They change the pin outs for their $80 chargers for every other generation purposefully to screw customers into buying more accessories. To be honest, that is the only thing apple products have going for them is quality of accessories.
Apple makes good products but they are not for me. I enjoy the freedom of open source and the abundance of the development community that android provides.
Anyone else get pissed when someone asks "Is that a Droid?" NO IT IS NOT! It's an ANDROID PHONE!
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
It's a little silly to get upset at people who use Droid and Android interchangeably. Would be akin to being upset because someone confused your iPhone 4s with the regular iPhone 4 IMO.
Galaxy S III
Galaxy S III. Pure Power. Android. well... its just pure Awesome! iPhones are all the same, their locked down, locked to apple services (itunes) and they just suck...
