Roms for the SCH-I815 - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

I haven't seen anything for the Verizon LTE version of the SGT 7.7.. Anyone developing for it at all? I am only a week into owning this tab and starting to regret it. Honeycomb is BS.

I'll probably work on porting the CM9 rom to the i815 at some point, but right now it is too unstable and there are plenty of other things that I need to fix (the only reason why I added a P6800 port was because most of the needed changes were done by aorth for the P6200).

I would be happy with just an ICS leak!!!
HC stinks!
There are leaks for everything else... Rezound, Razr, Galaxy Note... why not for this tab?

I wondered that too. There also isn't an official stock firmware listed in the dev forum T_____T

Would someone mind posting the build.prop from the stock rom (as an attachment to your post would be great, so it is easy to download).

Here ya go!

Anyone know if there is an equivalent to Sprint's RDF pages for Verizon? Or Samsung? I know with the Samsung Epic 4g Touch we all watched this page for updates. Any ideas?

I would much rather run a buggy ICS leak than HC.

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00046233&fm_seq=49033# is about all I could come up with and it doesn't mention ICS or any future updates.

Does anyone have a stock odin flashable ROM? I f****d mine up it seems, the current OTA update will not install :-(
So I guess it would be best to go all the way back to stock and then retry the OTA ...

Anybody started to develope custom ROM for SCH-I815 without Facebook, my Verizon, Social HUB and any kind of ****s like that. I need a custom ROM

No!!!
Freeze the bloat, don't remove it (yet). As long as there is not even a factory image to restore the tab in case of screw ups!! If you delete an app and the next OTA update comes out, it will fail, because it won't find the deleted app and therefore abort the entire update!!
:-(
Someone needs to find the Odin flashable factory ROM at least, better would be an ICS leak like on all the other phones and tablets...

ICS leaks all over the place for phones, but tabs.... nowhere to be found.

Do any of you guys have Linux or cygwin installed? Much easier to do in Linux but cygwin will work. You can make your own Odin image very easily.

Yes I do have a full Linux at hand! How do you make an Odin flashable from an installed ROM? Say for example I take my table and do a full factory wipe, clear all caches etc, only leave root intact. How can I then pull the entire state into an odin flashable that will basically clone my tablet exactly the way it is? I could do that and publish the file, so that the community finally has a backup ROM in case someone accidentally hoses their tablet !!

I'd like to help with this effort in any way possible. Very fluent in Linux with access to many servers. Need some guidance on just what needs to be done.

Hi
Very eager to learn. I have Linux etc. How do I create an ODIN flashable ROM from either a running tablet (a clone) or from a CWM backup?
THANKS!

There's a CM9 for the i815 in the Android development thread that has everything working but 4G and auto brightness, according to the developer. I'm going to install this weekend, but it seems to be the real deal at this point.
It's also currently missing HDMI, which is unfortunate...but I agree that it could easily be a daily driver in another month or so.

This is great news, sure I'd love 4g to be working too but I typically have at least 2 networks I can tether on in addition to Verizon so ready to take the plunge.
Which version of CWM are you running and how did you install it? Odin or heimdall? I downloaded what I thought was the proper CWM but have had trouble installing.

CWM 5.5.0.4 recovery from locerra, flashed via Odin.
Do yourself a favor before flashing the recovery via odin if you're rooted and follow these instructions, or else the stock recovery will override your CWM recovery every boot:
ODIN flashable CWM 5.5.0.4 TAR file: http://goo.im/devs/ohanar/clockworkmod/i815/CWM-20120710-i815.tar
Installation Instructions for stock FD01 users with stock 3e recovery:
Gain root access if you don't already have it.
Disable any lockscreen security you have.
While in the Stock ROM after enabling root access, navigate to the /system folder with a root-enabled file explorer app and mount R/W.
Locate the file "recovery-from.boot.p" and rename it to "recovery-from.boot.p.bak" then power down your tab, Do Not reboot or let the tab boot into your stock rom!
Boot into download mode by pressing and holding power + volume down
Press Volume up to continue into download mode and connect your tab to your pc
Load up ODIN and flash the 5.5.4.0 tar file via PDA
Reboot, you should now have persistent CWM 5.5.0.4

I'm running CM10 and it is very smooth and a huge step up from stock HC. I use mine solely on Wi-Fi so it having 4G issues is not a problem for me. VZW's attitude toward customers and their painfully slow updating process is what drove me away from them. I will never go back to VZW until these attitudes change. I am now a very happy T-Mobile customer with unlimited 4G data. Suck it VZW.

CWM root method for GT-N8000 is 100% compatible with wifi version, just confirmed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152
Right now my focus will be, for N8013:
Do system dump of all system content with read permissions (this is almost everything, but missing a few files)
Root the system dump, package as Odin/Heimdall-flashable
Flash rooted dump
Use rooted dump to obtain a dump of all partitions (this enables obtaining a raw stock image of recovery and kernel - The Euro devices already have firmware packages available, US devices often have to dump stock firmware from devices.)
From there, the kernel work starts
I'll be picking up my device tonight, assuming that it doesn't sell out.
what about the n8010 version.

Jelly Bean or ICS for Google IO 10.1? How to?

So it now seems clear that OTA will NOT come for the very nice Google IO version of this device, I recently learned that the rooted versions will handle DRM material from Google play,,(correct?) so I think I'm ready to take the plunge,,
Any advice and step by step instructions? Is there a good JB version (if I'm going to do it might as well go all the way?)
Have not rooted the thing at all, so a bit nervous,, I have installed early ADB's on other devices.. so I get generally how the process should go,, but of course the 10.1 is different and the GIO one is even different from all the rest.
Direction/advice and cautions appreciated.. I love the device and don't want a brick in it's place..
And yes I have both the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus from this year's GIO...
Thanks in advance!:fingers-crossed:
You need to make use of the search feature here. Lots of great info on rooting and flashing.
The Google I/O version is a different build and doesn't get any updates pushed to it by Samsung.
Thanks but...

Yes I have been searching diligently but as you note the GIO tab is "different" so it is not clear which run and which are eligible solutions.
I see from the views that a number are interested in this question but from searching I don't see great solutions..
It seems that the JB versions are not fully baked.
The ICS versions each seem to have issues and it is not clear which if any are running smoothly on the GIO version.
Hence my attempt by asking the question, to gain some authoritative clarity!
The google io version is the same just is fully unlocked by default. Samsung has indeed pushed more then 1 update to this device in the past. Doesn't seem like they will further. It is NOT 100% GOOGLE on this tab... Not sure why everyone thinks so. Anyways, anything that runs on the retail versions will run on the io just make sure u don't flash a new bootloader keep the one u already have. Use Odin to flash a custom recovery then use that recovery to flash a CUSTOM Rom. I'm running cm10 with very few problems
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Thanks! That helps!
That will help a lot.. The clarity on how the GIO version fits in is the main thing that was confusing me.
Now I have a path to follow.. I think.. The CM10 looks very tempting with JB from what I have been reading here,, I take it the only somewhat real issue is the front camera?

Anything I need to know about Not replacing the bootloader?
I'm assuming that I can ignore instructions relating to rooting/unlocking? Since it is a GIO device?
Do i need to do anything special to keep apps/access to app store, Google provided apps Gmail etc or does CM10 have all the basics??
Sorry to be so basic...Just don't want to end up with a shiny brick!

Google is your friend. You'll find ODIN and instructions on how to use it easily.
I believe you have to flash or install the Google Framwork apk separately. I'm sure the CM10 folks have a sticky or FAQ to help.
Read as much as you can about the process before doing it!
Found this on Odin on Android Authority
this appears to answer some of my questions at least where to find Odin

But of course I want to go to CM10 so I need to think how that modifies things...

Source Code for Straight Talk Galaxy S II Released/Found

I'm honestly not sure where to post this, I found it on another forum (and that post was made about three hours ago). In any case, Samsung appears to have open sourced the stock firmware and kernel for Straight Talk's version of the Galaxy S II.
If you go to http://opensource.samsung.com/ and search of the model number - SGH-S959G - it's the only thing that comes up. The download appears to be just what it says, the uncompiled source code.
I've been looking for stock ever since I bought this phone and since I'm not exactly green when it comes to Linux and using a terminal, I'm tempted to give a crack at compiling this myself. Anybody have any experience with this? It can't be too hard...right? :silly:

You won't get the stock firmware by compiling the kernel, mate. Why do you want stock when you already have stock (original) firmware? If you're looking for unbranded, you're unlikely to find it as you have a carrier specific phone.

I'm aware of how this source code works!
IndigoAK I am the one that posted the link on AA51. The file appears to be in tar.gz format like what is used for install through odin. I have not tested it, as I am not a developer, or in need of flashing to factory firmware at this time. I posted it as I seen many people looking for it. I believe it is needed to be able to safely start making modifications for this phone, CWM, Root, custom ROMs, ect., and being able to flash back to stock if something goes wrong. Hopefully with the information out there now it will jump start development.
Edit: After further research the source code files are used to create the firmware, and these cannot be installed through Odin. Feel free to correct me if I'm still wrong.

I just thought that posting it here on XDA might get it seen by more people who might know how to put this to use.
Hopefully somebody does put it to use. Due to the way that Straight Talked has gimped this phone, it's going to take the community to really make it worth the price they're charging for it.
I tried to link to the original post on android area 51, but as a new member I am not allowed, yet. I am just trying to get information out there, so thank you for posting it here (as I just now joined). The phone is fairly new and under advertised, but hopefully these posts will stir interest.

No.
Everything needs to be modified. The I777 rooting method works for this device, but nobody has been able to get past that as far as I'm aware. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to double reboot my phone trying to install every custom recovery image (and searching around suggests this is the case for a lot of other people) I can get my hands on and I've kept a pretty close eye on custom firmware sites - none of them have added support for this device (probably because you can't install a custom recovery image yet).
Guys I have the same problem, I tried to root my Straight Talk Galaxy SII using the AT&T root but CWM doesn't install and the root breaks the Wifi, Contacts save option, several apps like YouTube. I cannot revert back to the stock ROM due to this issue and I really could use the help.. I'm surprised that DEV teams haven't done much on the phone considering for 45 dollars a month you get really fast 7mb/s speed.
I'm willing to do whatever I can to contribute to a way of finally getting this awesome phone off of a sucky stock rom.
Thanks everyone!
I was just curious if it could be fully flashed to stock i777 GB. As it appears to be the exact same hardware. Completely start over making it the at&t i777.

[Odin][XXBMC3] Back To Stock Galaxy Camera 3-part Odin Flash GC-100

HI guys, I'd like to post this here. Here is the latest Odin flash update I pulled from Kies and my device the other day. This is as new as it gets for Samsung Galaxy Camera. You will need Odin3 and the following files
PIT: http://d-h.st/3B3
CSC: http://d-h.st/AVe
MODEM: http://d-h.st/Nbl
PDA: http://d-h.st/U7K
Not much more to say, Hope this gets someone out of a sticky situation.
I wonder if they'll ever remember they made this device and give us another update, not necessarily a version upgrade, but give it some extra functions in the camera app.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. What do you want? You want me to whip up a CASUAL recovery installer? Or what kind of recovery.zip are you looking for? Generally you install .zips from a recovery, I wouldn't be making a ROM for the camera, but I can help to make it easier to install ROMs.

This device has received the same support as the Galaxy Note 2. So, if you read about something for GNote2, you will likely see it on this device too.
Thanks for reply. No, I'm not interested in installing ROMs. Just a standard CWR that would allow me to install zipped scripts and stuff to tweak camera. I.E. crossbreeder, etc. I installed recovery on my note 8 and added some scripts to make it run smoother and conserve battery. I've seen some recoveries out there, but there are questionable, but you have established yourself as a serious developer. That's why I asked.

GC-120
Adam,
I have a GC120 that was rooted and working fine. However not realizing that the bootloader was still locked I flashed a custom rom with mobile odin and did not make a back up prior to doing that. Now it boots directly to Download mode and I can not get it to boot to recovery. I can not find the stock firmware anywhere to try to flash through odin. I was going to try the unbrickable mod but I dont know if I feel comfortable taking the thing apart. Ive tried flashing the OTA updates for the device and still nothing. Any suggestions on how I can get this to work again ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
those files still available or no?
Adam... a year ago i downloaded your files and keep it in my harddrive, but last week when i want to use it again, the files corrupted... i can't understand why because i used the same files for 2 times before.
Last night i tried to download your files again... but keep on failing.. my connection really good because i can download 1080 (-+ 1gb) movie everytime. So your files still available to download no? So
