Galaxy SIII videos created by me - Galaxy S III General

Hello guys, I'm going to "shamelessly promote" the video I made with the Galaxy S3 unboxing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bFhWPZsgKM
I had the blue version for a while, now I have the white one... I've made videos presenting the S Voice feature, the camera, the PopUp Play... if you have any other suggestions, please let me know and I'll do my best to help you.
Regards,
Alex.

Nice video. And thankfully for us, it's in English.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

some much awaited tests are
1.led notifications demo
2. multi tasking
hope you have time for that

LED Notifications - I'll do that tomorrow, Light Flow style.
MultiTasking - tomorrow as well, because my camera's battery died...
Thanks for the feedback!

Use the GSIII's camera.

A small fun fact : if you noticed, the colors on the boxes are... on the blue version "Metallic Blue" and on the white version "Ceramic White"... Not Pebble or Marble
Also, here's the S-Voice demonstration : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_iFDigHo0Q
Enjoy!

thanks, am looking forward to your video about the notification LED and the multitasking (please try to check the HTC ONE X multitasking videos and try to emulate them)
just seen the s-voice video and it is nice =)

good s-voice demo.....thanks for the time man.

Please also test the text reflow on stock browser. I am particularly interested in seeing whether it can reflow to any zoom level we want and not just to a particular zoom level by double tapping..

Good video. Notification LED on S3 its good to have on it. So slim phone, beautiful design than its previous version, it will dress in Pebble blue and marble white colours. I am going have this device or maybe I choose other one.

thanked in advance for the upcoming notification led and multi-tasking video.

Appreciated!!
Thanx a lot for ur demos, could u plz test the NFC with smart tags, net browsing experience and the wireless charging?!
How is the battery with or without data on?!

could u check for a pink tint in white Screen
at both full and low brightness

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41fMmfwBnGo&feature=youtube_gdata_player - camera & burst shot
Tomorrow I'll do the led and browser and multitasking ones
I can't test the nfc or the wireless charging, because I don't have the hardware, unfortunately.
Will try with the pink tint
Regards,
Alex.

If you have a note, can you check if the note's 2500 mah battery fits inside the sgs3 ?

I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?tbgrnl

When you did the "best shot" demo, one can clearly hear 11 shutter sounds but the phone only takes 8 pics!

Blue vs white?
Thanks for your effort.
Since you´ve had both colors, can you share some impressions? What made you switch?

Nope, the Note's battery is bigger and it has 3 pins, while the S3 battery has 4. So unfortunately, it won't work.

Hmmm... don't know what to say about that. The shutter sound is too fast to be able to make the difference between them. Still, it takes only 8 photos, I assure you of that

I changed because of the circumstances, not because I wanted to change it Don't know what to say about it... I like the white version too, but if I were to pick between them... it'd be hard.

seen a million camera and pop up play vids. pls do led notification

Coming right up YouTube's really slow at uploading... I have 6 videos uploading and it's taking... foreeeeever. You can subscribe and you'll get a message as soon as the video's up & running According to them, the first one, the one with the accesibility features (motion controls & stuff like that) will be online in ~ 20 minutes... so I'm guessing 40-50 min / video... LED Notification is 3rd... so it should be online in ~ 2 and 1/2 hours or so.
Thanks!

Bizarre request for Omnia 7 owners

Hey everybody!
I hope you guys are enjoying your Omnias. I'm thinking about getting one, but I already have a Galaxy S and am suffering the dreaded SAMOLED Pentile issue. That is, that the screen Samsung uses has a lower pixel count than standard LCD screens. On Android this is pretty awful and makes text look fuzzy at small sizes.
Now, I'd like to see how WP7 looks on the screen, especially since everyone is raving about how awesome it looks. It might be that Samsung has tweaked the display so that it looks better.
So, my request is close-up pictures of the display while it's on. Showing websites (zoomed out), pictures and the main menu. Preferrably taken with a camera that supports "macro mode" so that we can clearly see how sharp (or not) the display actually looks. I'd love to see it in person, but apparently the phone hasn't arrived in Spain yet.
I'd really appreciate this, so thanks in advance to anyone that goes ahead with my request!

These reviews by GSMArena and PhoneArena should give you an idea, and has some close shots. While zoomed out webpages does look pixelated, the contrast and colours of the Omnia 7 is just stunning. I personally just zoom abit if it gets pixelated, plus I dont like reading text thats too small anyway.

Hello,
If you still need I may try to take some photos of it this weekend...
I used to have HTC Diamond (2 devices : touch and Pro), then I get an iPhone 4, and now the omnia7 : the screen is really really better on the Omnia, I was very impressed by the quality of it (video playback is very nice, pictures too, websites are ok)

I would really appreciate it if you would I have seen the online reviews but none of them have pics of enough quality for me to see how text is rendered on the screen.
I really hate how pixelated everything looks on the Galaxy S. As soon as I get close to the screen it's like I'm looking through a net. The screen on the Omnia is the same, but if Microsoft has better font rendering it might be less noticeable.
Thanks!
No way to overpass a hardware limitation with any software. If you found very small text being difficult to read on your Galaxy S, it would be the same on Omnia 7. However, in contrast to Android, Windows Phone 7 is designed with the AMOLED tech in mind. All text in the default UI are big enough (even too big for some tastes ) avoiding described flaw being noticeable. Still in the browser or bad compound third party apps with too small fonts it would be the same as Galaxy S.
Btw, IMHO this is no issue. I don’t like to torture myself by reading so small texts on an already small phone screen anyway, so just zoom in is used here .
Well - on the "no fix in software is possible" - not quite. Microsoft ClearType is used on RGB LCDs to make text look smoother by changing the color of pixels based on the known layout of the colored subpixel-elements.
The problem with the AMOLED Screens seems to be that they don't have red and blue in every pixel (only green). Perhaps using clever software it would be possible to avoid fuzzy rendering of text and Microsoft developed WP7 with AMOLED screens in mind.
So it would be possible but I guess there are no optimizations of that kind. I had no problems with my Omnia 7 up to now so I'd just say it's not that big of a deal.
I just have swapped from Galaxy to Omnia and the I do like the display I have no problem reading large or small fonts between the 2. I have not had a sunny day yet to test this but I found on the Galaxy that the auto brightness always had a little lag I would always need to remove my sunnies for a couple of seconds to see what I was doing then the phone would kick in and I could put them on. The Omnia on black background is really designed for reading text large or small.
Hi, I've taken you some pics, but the "attach too" limits the size of an attachment. I can email them to you or if you have a minute to suggest a better way to upload them I'll be happy to give it a shot.

Thanks! I actually forgot to update the thread. I have finally bought an Omnia for myself, decided to take the risk So I no longer need the pics.
It is true, it is the same screen as on the Galaxy S and the dreaded pentile is there. However, due to the metro UI it bothers me a lot less and it does make everything pop out more and seem very attractive.
WP7 renders fonts better than android so browsing is a lot easier on the Omnia's screen than it was on the Galaxy. Overall I'm really happy with the device and I like it a lot more than I like the Galaxy.

New Camera Tricks***GET AWSOME PHOTOS*** No mods

After bringing up the camera issues and being attacked by Faithful EVO Thumpers, I decided to do something about it and find some easy home made fixes so that people could get HD IN DEPTH photos with out switching to a phone with a much better camera (Samsung-Clears throat)
I found that the photos are naturally over exposed and over saturated. If you have bought a EVO and taken a picture you have probably scratched your head as many times as i did trying to figure out why the camera on your old phone was WAY better.
MAIN Problem - The Evo has 2 LED flashes. This is far more that the phone ever needed for photos.
I used the stock MIUI camera app for most of these pictures. My second go to app would be Camera 360 Ultimate. Which has stunning effects.
The photos i am posting were raw images. I adjusted the saturation and contrast to suit my taste. No effects were used. In some cases i made the photo black and white
I have had the best photos with the lates MIUI ROM. Only because the camera controls allow you to change a lot of dynamic properties that will provide you with all sorts of great photos.
This is a list of the settings that work best for me.
1. FOCUS MODE- TOUCH-- Works best for DEPTH OF FEILD
2. COLOR EFFECT- NONE- MONO FOR BACK AND WHITE
3. ISO- AUTO---- YOU WILL SEE WHY IN A SEC
4. METERING- CENTER WEIGHTED
5. ANTI BANDING - OFF -
6. STABLE SHOT- 1 SEC-
7. 8 MP
8.SUPER FINE QUALITY
9. BRIGHTNESS- -1.0 TO -05
10. Contrast and Saturation at 2- For those with a non miui rom. REDUCE THOSE UNTIL ALMOST ALL COLOR IS GONE. adjust back up to your liking
11. Sharpness is at max
12. White balance should always be INCANDESCENT if indoors unless you are going for a desired effect.
13. Flash is auto or ON
These settings are pretty much universal regardless of what camera app you use.
Camera 360 allows you to reduce the compression.
***** HERE IS THE TRICK*****
Go grab some REAL D 3d glasses. They are free and most people have them laying around the house from the last 3d film they went to.
Cut a small circle from the lense of the glasses---BIG ENOUGH TO COVER THE LED LIGHTS.
Mount it over the flashes with your own prefered method. Do not block the flash--Only cover it with the shaded Plastic lense.
THATS IT. Hope this will inspire some people to take creative photos and enjoy having a phone that also takes good photos.
I was tired of watching random people get jumped by Forum trolls who would rather defend the device instead of make it better.
THE PURPOSE IS TO CONTROL OR CONVERT THE LIGHT OF THE FLASH. I also had great photos by completely covering one LED with
I took these photos in a very dim room that has an old light. Conditions do not matter. The more natural light you have the better but be creative and let me know if you find something better to cover the flash with.
Download the zip for entire photoshoot and starting ideas

These are raw photos. The only edit i did was black and white
I found that adjusting the saturation all the way down makes awsome black and white. add contrast to darken the backround. I took these with horrible lighting indoors.
Im sure these pics will turn out great once i get em into PHOTOSHOP. Put the app on your phone and and you almost dont even need a 700$ camera----excluding the lenses-
More pics
These are the things that were next to me. Im sure with some time i will develope new ways to capture the world.
These photos have not been edited The color pics were taken with camera 360 ultimate which did have a light hdr setting. The best photos are toooo large to upload.

This is the only light i have in the room. I think this method works best for those with bad room conditions
Works very well. I cut out a small piece of the 3d glasses, and put it over the flash, behind the phones' back cover, so the cover holds the plastic in place. Thanks for the tip, it took me like 3 minutes, and I can see the improvement in the flash.
wow, i knew it had a good camera, but shots like these i may even use my evo as my only digital camera(not really) but still great. I hardly ever use the camera app but i think that may change.
Hmm, great tip! I'm glad it has a better camera than we all thought, and I'd be all over this, but I just bought a d7000.

but i am not that picky.

Cute trick, polarize the flash instead of the lens. I've done tricky stuff with gels with my nikon, never considered the evo to have a serious enough cam to bother, but I have a ton of these glasses lying around that I might have to try this with.

[Q] Screen of the Galaxy Note

Hello, I've been on numerous web sites during these last days concerning the Samsung Galaxy Note and it seems that many people are complaining about the screen having some pink, green and blue dots on white backgrounds specially when watching videos.
Will that problem be solved if ICS sandwich is intalled on the note or is it a factory problem?
I'm was about to buy the Note but now i'm unsure, please help me out!
Thank you in advance!
I wouldn't read to much into these stores. I've had Samsung phones sgs1 sgs2 and now note. Never had any problems with any of them.

I don't recall anyone EVER complaining about that.
I assume it's the latest "X said that Y said that Z said......." trend.
Way more people are complaining about black crush/bad blacks, which is apparently fixed in ICS.

The camera produces, on low light conditions a pink/green dot in the middle of the display, not on the photos.
On videos using lower or higher resolution then devices native playback resolution 800p produces black squares on low light scenes with dark content. Example Rasty nails video on YouTube look it at the different formats and checked how they behave.

I spoke to Samsung directly about the pink dot on the camera. It would seem to be a design fault, and I feel the likely cause is the autofocus. it is only apparent under some lighting conditions and stills can easily be corrected with photoshop. Video is the same, but I have to say, that I have shot some amazing footage that out performs my now retired and sold semi pro vid. camera. Until I see ICS on my phone, I wont know if this has been fixed. (all digi sensors have defects that are mapped out via firmware). In all other respects the screen is perfect, brilliant even. If this bugs you, its not a smart phone your looking for, its a digital SLR that you need. If your happy with what I've said, you should not worry.

Droid Turbo Review.

The phone has some slick features like the Moto voice services where you can wake up the phone with your custom voice command with the phone being up to 5ft away from you. It also detects when you are at home, work, in a car or sleep and automatically changes behavior of apps based on where you are. The home screen widget is nice too, it gives you up to the minute weather details and lets you know how soon it'll rain or snow down to the minute. The battery life is amazing, once you leave the house you never have to worry about using a charger for the rest of the day.
Now those are all great but the good ends there with me. The camera was subpar and all weekend I was out at events and parties and I wish I had my Note 3 with me to take pics. A lot of the pics came out blurry, the eyes on people where white devilish looking. The call quality sucked too, I had the volume as high as it can go and unless you are in a completely silent room you will have a hard time hearing. I went to the gym and had my beats headphones in and volume to the max and I could still hear the gym radio. There's no notification light on the front of the phone, this to me is a huge disappointment. I use the Lightflow app and i have a different color light for every notification and it comes in handy when you want to know what type of notification is awaiting for you without touching the phone.
I will be returning the phone this week and going back to using my Note 3 while I wait for the Nexus 6 or Galaxy Note Edge to come out.
Pros - Great battery life, premium metal feel, home screen widget, lock screen notifications look nice, Moto voice services.
Cons - Screen isn't too bright, low ear piece volume, low volume with headphones, poor camera, kind of slippery in hand, no notification light, no removable battery, no expandable memory.
Good review. I agree with all of it.

Not sure what your problems are with the camera... I have an S5 and Turbo tends to take better pictures in most situations by far, especially in low light. It's not the cameras fault that you can't hold it steady when taking a photo...
I think your only valid complaint would be the LED notifications. Which if you did any research at all before buying the device, you would of known before purchase it did not have. Everything else can and most likely will be addressed soon. The storage complaint is old, 32GB is fair & they offer 64GB at a competitive price that no one else is really matching.
Go have fun with TouchWiz & Samsung plastic I guess.
Go into settings, sound, and audio effects. Disable the equalizer. Everything will sound miles better.
Camera is kinda slow though, I'm with you on that.

Lol wow, you act like my review was about you. I'm going to post a few pics and you tell me if they are great or not. I've seen other post where people had to tweak settings etc but my Note 3 took way better pics. Even when I use Snapchat the focus seems slow and delayed. It seems like you have to as still as a statue to take a good pic and that's not always an option. And as far as the notification light issue, I just figured that was standard. Even if I knew it wasn't there it's still a negative against the phone.

Nah. I just think a lot of the comments around here are quite silly towards this phone. It's like people went and purchased the phone without even doing any research and expected it to be better than anything on the market.
I agree, those pictures are quite bad. However, it's not purely because of the camera itself.
For one, you are using 15.5 MP 16:9 and not the full 21MP 4:3, which tends to produce a much better picture. Secondly, you are most likely just randomly snapping without even selecting a proper focus exposure. The pictures are blurry in most cases because of the low light situation, you probably have HDR enable for some reason and the fact you don't have a steady hand while taking the picture does not help. Third, I notice flash in most every shot, which on any smartphone will tend to produce a horrible picture.
You just point and shoot. So your pictures are bound to be bad.

Funny I knew that would be your comeback, but I had other people take pics when I wanted to be in the pic and they turned out bad. And when I take pics with my Note 3, people always say how they look great and even better than iPhone 5/5s.
The camera is slow on the Turbo and I'm not the only one to say that.

I have the note 3 and i kinda agree with you on the camera stuff... but I think your just too used to the really good quality camera on the note 3.
I completely agree with the OP, the Turbo produces mediocre pictures compared to other flagship phones. Landscape photos in particular lack detail.
FYI, taking photos in 16:9 format is what most people do, not everyone wants 4:3 photos.
Sent from my Droid Turbo
I'm actually pleased with the camera quality. Just not the shutter speed. It could be a tad faster.

Huh? Small Pic is cropped from larger. You can almost read the numbers on the gauge. That photo was taken yesterday through the glass on the doors which probably degraded the image slightly also.
There's like 5 guys (not the OP really, I think he's new) posting over all the forum about how "mediocre" everything about the Droid Turbo is, changed the tone to negative in this section. They know who they are. It's an exclusive device with a locked bootloader so it's a small part of XDA, 5 butthurt guys can make a lot of noise.

That's what I'm talking about, close up photos seem to be great, it's really lacking in the distance area such as landscapes.
Just to show you where I'm coming from, this was my G3. I know it's not a fair comparison since they are different photos, but I've found the Turbo to really lack in the landscape photo department. Up close photos are great.

What you see there is because of very Low light situations. Low light means a slow stutter speed and any movement (trees or camera) will degrade the image dramatically. I can't really comment on Turbos performance in low light because I haven't tested it yet. But it's ability to capture fine detail is there.
I had sort of assumed that the Droid Turbo has active notifications like the Moto X. Is that not the case? It makes an LED redundant.

I'm aware of that, here is another low-light scenario.

Um, ya. I personally think the Turbo took the better picture here. For instance, I can't even make out Toshiba on your G3 picture. Much more clear/crisp on the Turbo. Not to mention your G3 sample is fairly over exposed & extremely warm in color. But both pictures are relatively bad due to settings and hard to really use as a comparison. Unless you are comparing just a simple pull out of pocket point and shoot.
Your other shots (above) seem to just be point and shoot as well and not necessarily focus exposed or any effort really put into them (I could be wrong). You are also taking a lot of shots pointed/aimed in direct sunlight/sunset which will put out pretty poor quality pictures in general anyway.
Stop posting bad situations and try something that will actually yield a decent photo for comparison. The shots you are taking are really more aimed towards a more high end sensor.
In general you are expecting way too much out of a camera phone in most of your situations.

[Video] Photography Tutorial - long overdue!

Hey folks, I got some good news...
The long overdue photography video tutorial is finally out - enjoy!
Tell me what you think (oh, and I'm well aware of the microphone issue, I'll fix it next time). If you knew everything that I've said in this video already, fear not - I'm planning on making a part 2 and a part 3 about post-processing inside and outside of Android, since that's what people seemed interested in, as well as more general photography tips such as how to better compose an image. If you have anything else that you'd love to see a tutorial of, please do mention it!
EDIT: my Z1 Flickr album
Cheers :highfive:
Keep it coming. [emoji1]
I already learn some stuff. [emoji1]
awesome
Thank you boss
The tutorial amazing I learn soo much
Thank you
Keep it going (I'm waiting part 2 and 3)
☺☺

Can you tell me which rom/kernel do you use? Cause your camera app is opening very fast.
Thanks for the replies guys, I'm really glad to hear you like this kind of video! I'll definitely make more now
(although you may have to wait a short while, y'know how busy studies can get...)

I'm using the latest stock firmware from Sony. So nothing fancy!
The thing is, I tested some things before recording so the application was most likely still in memory. I tried again just now and the camera seems to open in about two seconds when it's not in memory.
Awesome! Great video!
I didn't knew that Night Mode will decrease the shutter speed a bit. I will try it out tonight.
The camera in Z1 is awesome! I have many great shots with it. I just printed around 30 photos. You cannot tell much difference between the phone and a digital camera.
awesome
waiting for part 2
thanks
Any tips and trick using flash LED on Z1 when taking a photo ?
This is a little tricky too.
And the more strong light from flash LED will make the photo better or doesn't for taking a picture with low light ? (light condition around 40-50%)
Thank you very much

Hey,
I never use the LED light on my phone for photos. I used to use Xenon flashes on my SE Satio and Nokia N8, but LED lights are generally just too weak. Especially the single LED found on the Z series. In low light, I will use Night Mode and set my phone against some object so that I can take photos at the minimum shutter speed. For my static shots, an LED light would imbalance the white balance anyway, so I'm always better off not using it (as a "fill light" it is also surprisingly ineffective).
The only time I would consider using the flash is when I'm not trying to take good shots but useful ones instead. Photos that otherwise turn out too dark to see anything that I should be seeing. As for club or party photos - I just don't take those. That is pretty much the most difficult environment and no smartphone camera can really take decent photographs in that case.
I can't seem to be able to view the video. Is it me or everyone?

I double-checked and I can watch it just fine as well. You sure you don't have something disabled in your browser?
... and man, it's awful listening to your own voice.
