Samsung Galaxy S III vs Apple iPhone 4S (Video comparison) - Galaxy S III General

LOL THE FIRST THING ... "The iphone has the benefit of comfort"
Actually, even after using my 4.0" Atrix, the 3.5" devices seem way too cramped for my hand
this video is terrible. hes claiming the iPhone has the better photo quality and hes not showing any photos.

Oh god I couldn't even finish watching that. Somebody please knock some sense into this man, or hire the "wake up" team

Just sold my iPhone4s and waiting for SIII. IPhone is a nice "phone", nothing else. But for other things is too small. Before I have had GNex, SII, Sensation... 4.3 inches is really good size for my hands, but SIII isn't much bigger I think
Отправлено с моего WT19i через Tapatalk

meeeh, to each his own. how the phone feels in one's hand is completely subjective to the individual.

I do agree with him that the body of the iPhone looks and feels like a luxury product. But for actual daily use, theres no getting around that the SIII is just better in every aspects other than SMS'ing or typing in phone numbers. Also the icon grid of the iphone is a pain in the a**. The ability to setup home screens is much more useful. And thats just the top of the software iceberg.
I have also come to love the light plastic phones by Samsung. It's hard to break and the warmer feel is just great.

The reviewer does come off as a sort of fanboi. His "final verdict" didn't seem to take into account any specifics of the S3 at all, only a rehash of the usual android vs iphone stereotype.

Check the website..... don't think its bias at all he makes some good points but at the end its obvious the gs3 is stronger in calls and multimedia, the only place the iPhone wins is design and camera stills not video.
So if he does love iPhone he isn't showing it in this review , let's not witch hunt.

The iphone. A great product in its day. The iphone4 was a leading handset in its day. Sadly for the coolaid drinkers that day is long past. The iphone is surpassed in every meaningful way now. Unlike most here though I hope they up their game huge for iphone5 because the iphone is what made all of the many better handsets that can be had now happen. A **** hot iphone 5 means that everyone gets better. If they don't it means I get an iphone five. I love competition.

We are at a point were you can not make the phone any better in terms of screen resolution speed and battery life so I think phones after this will be pretty similar. I don't expect anything death shattering from the iPhone 5 . Maybe a bigger screen.

Er, while I don't claim to be an expert on Moore's law, I doubt you have good grounds for that claim either. Both screen technology and processor power have improved significantly each year, and indeed the iPhone still has to play catch-up in terms on specs. There is definitely room for improvement of the iPhone at the very least (and probably everything else as well).

I agree. The coming phone might do better in benchmarks, but in real life, that difference will be barely noticeable.
Just look at some of the Note vs. HOX on youtube. The difference is much less than the specs would suggest.
Edit: In battery life there is much to improve!

1) Last year not being much different from this year does not imply that development has been capped.
2) One cannot expect a notable difference anyway, since everything in the current ecosystem is designed not to take advantage of so many resources. As the resources grow, however, so will demand tend to grow with it. Eventually, for example, with enough cores, enough RAM, and an efficient enough battery, it will become feasible for the OS to simply leave all background tasks running, just like on our computer. That would be a notable change, but clearly it could not happen overnight.

I was just talking about the next iPhone not about the general development of phones. Given how phones are used this year and probably next year, doubling up the hardware specs, will not result in a twice as good user experience.

When you shoot a video from an iPhone 4S its look like you have already zoom a little bit and apart from that its video quality is smooth, colours look so bright and vivid. On the other hand video quality of S3 we will came to know after it get launch.

Fone Arena Smartphone Championship finals

It's the finals now: Nokian N900 vs Samsung Galaxy S
Having owned both, I can say both are worthy of winning. But since I'm a Galaxy user now, my vote goes there.

I voted for the N900.
It's the definition of a true smartphone.

Remember, it's the technology enthusiasts that are voting in the polls, and chances are at least half of those that voted for it probably has never even used one, much less seen one in person. The N900 is well-received for being the "Jack of all trades" of the smartphone world -- it does everything short of making breakfast for you, but none of it is done exceptionally well. I had one and honestly, it's a great phone, but the Maemo OS still lacks the user friendliness that Android or iOS offers. It's a geek phone that is almost useless in an average Joe's hands if he doesn't understand what it can do.
Im really liking the nokia E7
Post this in other Galaxy S forums and you'll probably see a huge boost in votes for the Galaxy S.

Fair enough. I love Nokia but it just looked....awkward. It was a video review only (no touchy-feely).
the n900 will win....not because its better..but because of the worlwide fanboys it has, it is the iphone of the world
We are losing big time. People vote
Vote vote vote for sgs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha so the X10 beats the HTC Desire? I dont think so.
Uhhh...N900 on Maemo also runs Android Froyo 2.2, iOS, Windozed, etc. We are still waiting for an acceptable fix for gps and lag.
As previously mentioned, it may not do some stuff exceptionally well but does them acceptably...and a lot more. It is a computer more than a phone.
I have one and yes, it is not for the average joe - it is a smartphone. Whereas we have to go jump through burning barrels of flame to root and customize our device, the N900 only needs you to type 2 words in the included x-terminal: "sudo gainroot". It is unbrickable(and practically unbreakable tough).
It was also the device used to hack and jailbreak the PS3.
Nokia just didn't give it the love to enhance it a step further and instead went Meego with Intel.
I believe it is going to win hands down based on capabilities and hardware. Among the few things we got to face it with is a 4 inch screen and HD video.
If you don't know much about it, read the comments section before you vote.
I'm sitting this one out, in fairness to both amazing devices, happy with the knowledge that I have the top 2.

Dude, I just read some of the N8 reviews.
THE PHONE IS CRAP
First of all it has a 680mhz processor. WTF?
And the OS is pure crap. It looks like it came from some old ass smartphone from the 90's. And the screen.... it's 3.5=FAIL.
The N8 in my opinion is worse than my old G1.
EDIT: LOL sorry, wrong phone. my humble but accurate opinion still stands for the n8
Of course you are aware that for Symbian phones, 680 Mhz CPU is like Android on a 1Ghz CPU, thus contributing to a longer battery life, right?
And that it does true multi-tasking not task-switching/management?
And that its crappy screen has its own graphics processor and has a resolution higher and sharper than our phones?
And, of course, it was the wrong phone with Symbian's outdated UI which totally reeks from 5 years ago.
Of course you already knew those things because you're well aware of all the merits of the phones we have more than the phones we don't have.
I'd rather focus on what we have and its real strengths and merits which beat other phones out there.

Vibrant has a better GPU, and since when is 640x360 higher resolution than 800x480? Are they special magic pixels?
And of course you read the reviews of Symbian^3 on the new N8. Yeah, kinda like BB, getting there but still behind the curve.
Now this is only the second review I've read of the N8:
http://www.itpro.co.uk/626251/nokia-n8-review-first-look
As with the iPhone, the battery is sealed inside the N8's casing, so it’s not user replaceable. This wouldn't be a problem, except we found the battery life to be disappointing. The specifications list a talktime of 5.5 hours on 3G and a standby time of 400 hours, but we’d cut this estimate in half based on our experiences with a pre-production sample.

Unfortunately, on paper, the 680MHz ARM 11 processor isn't as powerful as the processor found in rival high end smartphones. It does have a built-in 3D graphics hardware accelerator, but this doesn't make up for the very noticeable lag when carrying out common tasks such as opening applications.

Sounds like that slow processor really is slow, and it's not helping battery life much. My Vibrant has better battery life, and I can swap out for another when I run low.

Samsung Galaxy S III VS iPhone 4S - Phone Arena

Check this iPhone 4S vs SGS3
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-vs-Apple-iPhone-4S_id3038
Pretty nice
SGS3 smokes the iPhone.
But I found it almost painful to watch, how this apple fanboy tries to find a positive aspect for his love.
It was nice to see how he destroyed the myth of easier use, when he showed the music player, or how you get movies on your device (pocket cinema)
Why not compare it with next iWhatever to be fare ?
We are basically comparing everything with iPhone4s and that itself says all ..
Strictly not apple or android fanboy as both have its own set of advantages and disadvantages
Sent from Galaxy Ace which just landed on "MOON"
"There shouldn't be any doubt that the iPhone 4S is the better-designed handset." I agree with that, although I know I should keep my mouth shut until I have actually held the SGS3 in my hands. But I do feel that the iPhone sports a well thought-out design, and it does feel premium, although it's kinda heavy for being a 3.5" device, no?
"Apart from its multimedia superiority, the Galaxy S III is also the better phone if you love tinkering with the software of your mobile device." Exactly. I have enjoyed my time with the iPhone, I really have, but it's getting boring now. I've had it for a year and now I want to tinker. I want to mod. I want to change icons and I want to flash kernels. I want to try out experimental ROMs that cause bootloops. I want that kind of fun back! I love the way you can truly personalize an Android device. I miss that and I want that back.
Winterboard, you say? Oh yay, I can choose from 2,000 ugly themes to apply, and they'll all make my phone slower and less responsive? GTFO...
Really though, what's so wrong with Ray S? I think the last two paragraphs in this review really say it all and I agree with what he writes 100%
The iPhone doesn't suck! It's a really good phone if you want that simplicity! Ray doesn't suck either! He awards points to BOTH phones and I think he did a good job with this.
The review was a total joke, since he deliberately didn't mention many advantages of the GS3.
Design - 'iPhone has more premium feel', but of course he didn't say how much more durable plastic is and how fragile iPhone is.
Keyboards - of course he didn't mention that Galaxy phones come with Swype, or that you can install a number of 3rd party keyboards compared to no choice on iOS.
I could go on but it was not a very fair review at all.
S2 and the Note beat IPhone 4s. S3 is way too better.

That's the point. He's comparing it to a, frankly, outdated phone and still spinning it to prop them both up equally.
The 4S, after all, was really an incremental update from the year before; I don't think a comparison even deserves to be made (the only reason it even comes up is because the 4S is Apple, oh my).
Unfortunately, it's just not feasible to compare it to the next iPhone, for obvious reasons.
Android phones have set certain standards in the last year, that a new iphone has to match or they won't have a chance IMHo. Really interested to see what they do about the screen size and how they will handle he resolution dilemma.
The iPhone is beginning to look and feel really old by now.
Phone Arena has a bias toward iPhone, as seen in their S3 review, we have gone over this in the previous thread. I think to compare an iPhone to Android by itself is a stupid concept. I mean if you were to give me an iPhone 4S right now, what would I do with it? I can do more thing and have more fun with a used $120 Galaxy S variant, no exaggeration.

Issue i have with his every review is more of an opinion piece instead of an objective review. He has tendencies to amplify negatives that can be seen as positive things on non-apple devices.
also the conclusion that everyone who fits the criteria below to get an iphone? If he said things like ecosystem, itunes, etc then yeah i can see it but generalized conclusion that fits both device doesn't.

My response from the other thread
Samsung Galaxy S2 is better than iPhone 4S. But my favourite feature on iPhone 4S is Siri. But I still like the iPhone, after comparing them also.

Convince me the iPhone 5 will bring nothing worthwhile...

So I can pick up my new S3.
I've been wanting to switch forever to Android, but to me the hardware wasn't always quite there. Now that phones have caught up, I'm itching to go upgrade. However, I know the iPhone 5 is being released in just a little bit, so I'm going to hate myself if I don't at least hear what the 5 is going to have. My guess is NFC and a larger screen, but I can't imagine what else they could bring hardware wise. I love my Iphone, don't get me wrong, but I'm guessing hardware will barely change and to me Ios6 doesn't look like it will bring a lot of innovation to the market.
I'm such a nerd though, I use to have an HTC with Windows Mobile and modded the hell out of that thing. It was the most fun I've ever had with a phone, but the camera on it was horrible, which is pretty important in my eyes.
Does this forum looks like Android-Buy-Me-Forum? Dude, make your own decisions...nobody, I mean nobody can tell or convince you which phones you prefers. Iphone has their own advantages so does Android.
Everyone using Android will say Android is better, so if you go to an Iphone forum, the same will happen. If you want to use a phone with stability, nothing changes over time, everything goes well everytime, go to the Iphone. If you are someone who likes to tweaks your phone, able to set your own personal ringtone without going to iTunes, go to Android. Simple as that
Camera on the SGS3 is awesome, it has NFC, Android has had turn by turn navigation for years, you can do anything with Android you want, the quad core CPU is awesome if you watch videos receive an email or text and just hit the pop out play button to watch the video and check the email or text.
You aren't bound to what a company says a phone should be able to do, you don't like the stock rom flash a custom rom. The UI looks different in different versions of Android. All share cast allows you to share whats on the screen with a TV whether its a slide show of holiday pics or a video.
Google now trumps siri in so many ways (when JB comes) you can just copy files to any PC, no installing iTunes on all PCs you want to share things with.
Any other reasons you need?
Well I certainly know the differences, but I thank everyone for their input. My thought process about the iPhone was always hardware as I stated before. I never really enjoyed iOS, at least when I purchased for4. For the first iPhone 3, I'm sure a lot of us could agree it was probably the best OS out at the time. When the 4 came out, it seemed like the best hardware compared to others as well, but iOS was falling behind.
But now, I don't know whats up Apples sleeve. I mean, what could they possible bring to the table that will provide the wow factor hardware wise? NFC won't do it, I even think wireless charging wouldn't do it. A slightly larger screen and maybe a better camera? 3d? All stuff is either standard now or a cheesy gimmick. That's why i love the S3, because it has the hardware, plus we all know Android is fantastic.

Iphone's screen will never compare to the GS3, better camera get the Nokia N8 with a 12MP camera, 3d get the LG Optimus 3d, these are already out there Apple will just be copying everyone implementing things we don't see in the SGS3.
Also lets not forget the hardware in the iPhone is all Samsung hardware, so iPhone is made by Samsung as well. Any hardware Apple could improve over SGS3 (CPU, GPU, screen) will drain your battery which you cannot replace. with the SGS3 if you need it you can carry a spare battery with you and just swap it over when the awesome hardware drains the battery.
Well first off, it's an iPhone... While they may be popular, Samsung has over thrown Apple's control of the market share."Everyone that's popular, cool, rich has to have one right???" No -_- the SGS3 cost more than the iPhone, so that marks off rich people. I am pretty da*n cool and popular, that marks the others off cuz I have an SGS3. It has a quad core while Apple is just now getting into the dual core waters. Battery life is amazing. GPU is the best around. Dev support, not locked down. Jelly bean smoothness on the way.
I mean c'mon if you seriously have doubts on getting an iDevice and becoming an iSheep, then leave XDA. Unless your job forces you (which I would still try my hardest to avoid) to have an iPhone, steer clear and enjoy your freedom.
I don't know why you say the iPhone had the best hardware, it wasn't hardware that made it smooth, it was software optimisation.
The 4S is using an underclocked dual core processor and it only has 512mb of ram.
Hardware has never been apples game, they just optimised the sh*t out of iOS.
Also objective C is faster than Java. (iOS and Android coding languages respectively)
Hardware was nearly always better on high end android handsets (no point comparing a 59.99 low end Android to a 700 quid iPhone, although most people that say Android is **** base their opinions on that.) Because it had to be, the os wasn't refined as much as iOS because there were so many oems, chip manufacturers etc. there were so many variables.
Now with JB Android has really found its feet, JB is the release that Android deserves as a platform, it is the one that will win non-technical people over with the ease of use and of course the fact that it oozes butter all over the place.
So to get to the point, iOS is dated, Android is growing better with every release. Vote Android.

Well its possible for the iphone5 to be better spec wise (cpu, gpu). If you're into gaming, it seems developers always put out the best versions of their mobile games for apple's product so that could be a plus for you. Other than that, I don't think anyone knows what's going to be in it.

to the OP, you said so, you want to change to android, sgs3 is a great way to make that change, the iphone 5 could be good but we don't know yet besides, if you like freedom then android is your choice.
my recommendation is, wait till the iphone release and pick one by then, if you come to our world you will enjoy it and never leave, trust me.
If he's in the us his gs3 won't be a quad core . But it will have 2 gigs of ram and be fast as hell. I'd go with the gs3. In fact I am going to the gs3 lol. I have the gs2 right now.

Apple will never compete in hardware spec with Android because there are so many android devices come out every 4-6 months with higher spec. Apple will never catch up on that department.
Maybe there will be new softwares in Iphone5. But whatever software offered in Iphone5 will be available for Iphone4.
So basically, there is nothing, I mean really nothing worthwhile that Iphone5 will bring to you.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or iPhone 5? Honest Comparison

Here is a comparison that my friend wrote comparing the two devices. Both devices will be coming to US carriers and we will need to make a decision between which device to buy. Check out the review and then let me know which one you think your going to purchase.

how do you compare two vastly different phones for vastly different customer population? also honestly, why is everyone comparing to the iPhone still? while they may sell the most due to people either being invested in ios or for cult like reasons, i really don't see them as the standard anymore. comparison is great for specs but i'm just tired of everyone regarding the iPhone as the standard.

Exactly.
FWIW I will be getting the note2 to replace my OG Droid. I want to combine my android phone and android tab into one and carry less devices.

But that answer depend on who is wearing what, and from a viewer point of view rather than user point of view. Well at least that is not my brain is talking.
Ok, first off. Comparing two phones that aren't out/ didn't personally use them for a while is not fair. A6 is probably dual core A15's, the iPad 3 doesn't have the same processor but it still is the fastest(check benchmarks/game FPS). In 3D performance, iPhone 5 would probably win. Operating system is biased and that's the end of it. You can only state the features but which one is better is your opinion. I think iOS works very well, but that's about it. It gets boring quickly even though it's doing its job of working as expected. Android is way more functional and with ICS and later, apps aren't ugly and have a style now.
Okay, seriously? Siri is a better assistant than Google Now? Siri has more sports knowledge? That is incredibly wrong.
Number 1, Siri gets all its info from Google. Number 2, Google Now updates you prior, during, and after the game has been played.
This review was not completed with the best support, not to mention the iPhone hasn't been released to effectively compare speeds, camera, etc. Although, I have no doubt the GNII will destroy the iPhone 5.

I appreciate your friend for writing this comparison and you for sharing it with us, but so many mistakes in his comparisons. The iphone 5 and the iPad 3 do not share the same processor, the iPad has an A5x chip ( arm cortex A9)while the new iphone has an A6 chip( arm cortex A15 which is a beast). The iphone camera is known to be one of the best around, I won't jump to conclusion on which is better until we see what the note 2 can do. Siri is light years better than S voice, but Google now is better than siri. I'm definitely not defending the iphone but since this is an honest thread we have to state the facts. Its hard to judge the exterior of each phone cause to each his own, and as far as battery life goes, I expect the note 2 to map the floor out with any phone on the market, including the iphone 5. The note 2 comes with a 1.6 GHz Exynos 4 quad processor ( quad core) which is a beast also. Both phones have powerful processors that will make them fly. I prefer the note 2 cause of the s pen and its new features, the 5.5 inch screen, the OS, the ability customise it however you want it. But the iphone 5 is no slouch, its a very good phone but it doesn't deserve all the hype its getting. Deuces

You make some excellent points my man. I still believe that Androids vs iPhones continues to be based on what the user is looking for. I think the gap in that argument is changing but it still exists.

It all comes down to what you looking for, at the end of the day. Its is clear that I phones cater more to the masses, people that want a good phone that just works, versus android that caters to the more tech oriented people who like customisation and modding. I have a friend who used to be a crazy ROM flasher, he actually got me into android. Now he doesn't really flash ROM or anything, he just wants something that is stable and works well and he is actually considering getting an iphone ( he used to hate I phones). All the android vs apple iphone is based on that, whether you want something great that just work and you don't have to worry about a thing, or you want something else that is also great, works but can be perfected to your liking.

something catered to the masses wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Android is catered to the mass with different levels of price range. Android stock is just as easy to use.

Finally a thread where people aren't just bashing one thing or the other. Honestly just like everyone here, I think these phones are in a different class, and really can't be compared. People who go for the iPhone 5 have a lot to look forward to, the phone is still fast, has a nice screen, and can finally use LTE which is great. What I don't get is that many people still can't really appreciate it, it is a beast of a phone in such a small package, I mean no offense to the note 2 but that thing is huge and has a lot more space for a bigger or better chip, more ram, bigger battery, a lot of things but the iPhone 5 can still hold it's own and still be really small. Now I will be getting the note 2 because I can't wait for that thing, it's like everything samsung could ever do into one package, it might be the first in the US with a quad core and LTE and a 5.5 screen, and the screen is unique on it's own, hd super amoled, with it being sort of in between a pentile and a amoled plus screen. Really spec wise it is a tech geeks wet dream, and I don't care if I look dumb making calls, I barely do that anyways, currently have the og epic touch and the devs here have kept this phone alive, I can even run jb on this. With the hype around the note 2 I hope it gets a lot of dev support because that thing was made for paranoid android and I can't wait to start flashing.

I think Samsung should sue apple for stealing its ideaof extending battery life.
In my honest opinion, there is absolutely no reason to own an iPhone 5 as it basically reinforces my belief that Apple suckers people in to $200 software upgrades. Samsung ( and others ) time and time again comes out with the stronger hardware. A lot of people say it comes down to personal preference, but I fail to see how people could prefer the iPhone. Out of date hardware, smaller screen, limited OS and customization abilities, having to be hooked to iTunes, etc.
I so wanted to try the iPhone 5 instead of my GSIII, but after the lackluster press release and underwhelming specs... I was left sorely disappointed. I'll be saving my upgrade for now.

Yea, I can't believe people think they are innovators. During their keynote they were explaining how apps designed for the 3.5" screen will work on the 4" screen. Luckily their outstanding engineers and advanced technology, they can center the app on the screen and put a black bar on the top and bottom of the app. WOW. Everyone give Apple a hand clap for their innovation in the field. Android on the other hand, sets their apps to determine the density and automatically sizes it to your screen....woo....black bars would look way better though *sarcasm*

Its basically a slightly stretched 4s, makes me yawn to even contemplate it, how can you compare such a little toy to a NOTE version 1 or 2, even though they are so proud and numbly excited about the ohh arrr slightly bigger screen, its still too small, it looks exactly the same just a load of apps dotted about on a screen inside a square edged lump, these simple phones have there place with the mums and babies groups with there designer gold handbags and tasselled lifestyles.

To the People attacking the note 5 buyers cos of the Z5 premium

Since the z5 premium was announced, I've seen a lot of hate on the note 5 owners.
Seems the general consensus that people only but the Samsung flagships, in particular the note phones because they're popular. I've seen vast comments along the lines of, bet note 5 owners regret their purchase now.
They're forgetting the note phones use great amoled screens and have the spen.
As far as I'm aware the note series is the only android phone to nativaly muliscreen also
Anybody care to explain why all the note 5 hate?

There are 2 possible explanations for this thread:
1- You're looking for trouble
2- You're immature enough to even think about creating such pointless, wasted space on XDA servers.
Please work on your social skills. In case you didn't know, everybody is entitled to their opinion, the way you vacate that opinion shows the degree of sophistication you have. Responding to those that have no sophistication puts you right at their level.

Yes I get that they're entitled, I'm just trying to figure out of all the phones why the Samsung phones get the most negative comments on. I've owned Sony Z phones and own an iPhone 6. They're all nice phones, in particular I like the amoled screen, spen, and Samsung exclusive features.

My bad, I've attempted to re-write it but it's probably to late.
Anyways what's your opinion on why Samsung gets picked on the most?
The z5 has other OEMs to compete with like HTC and Apple (I believe those are the 2 compared most to sony's build quality)

The bigger you are, the easier it is to pick on you. I am happy with my choices, but out of all OEMs, i think Samsung offers consistently good products even if they each have their flaws. No matter what they do, they cannot make everybody happy, thankfully on the Android ecosystem, there will never be a lack of choice. To each their own

True guess they are one of the bigger companies. Im super happy with the new build quality of the note 5/s6.
Was shocked about how many people were displeased with the no sd card, coming from an s6 edge. I also own a iPhone 6 so memory card there either. I was pretty happy with just big internal storage. No idea why they cut the note off at 64gb.
what's your opinion on 4k phones?
With the Z phones battery life, I'm not shocked Sony is the first phone company going at it. Plus they've had 4k tvs out for a bit now.
Personally I think why one might not notice the need/difference for 4k, they'll grow into it like they did 1440p phones. I can't imagine people streaming 4k video or storing much of it on there phone tho. Although I've read the z5 can handle up to 200gb sd cards (pretty pricey probably)
To anybody reading would you want 4k on the next note?
I think Samsung should handle the ram fiasco first and then maybe try to incorporate sd cards again since it seems like a lot of people weren't happy with the loss of extendable memory

LG has it too, but it's not as good as what Samsung has. Samsung's Multi-Window is better than the competition. There's Multi Window in the Android M Developer Preview on the Nexus 5/6, but it's experimental at the moment... Meaning it's not ready yet. It probably won't be on the official Android Marshmallow release though.

Samsung is the only company that can afford a slow but steady "Apple like" evolution of their phones. Other OEMs have to resort to making phones that have special features that stand out in order to attract client. All OEMs except for Samsung are currently losing money so they have to come up with ways to say "our phone was the first that did X, or had X" Sometimes it works out in their favor, sometimes not. A bit like the ultra-pixel 4MP camera on HTC One. They were marketing that features as if it were unique to their flagship and most importantly, a camera game changer. Turned out, it was good for shooting nice low res pictures in low light, but it was overall one of the worst camera ever at the time.
As for the 4K screen, sure, it's nice, but battery technology isn't here to justify a 4K screen without a considerable drop in battery life and overall performance. Samsung has been working on a super thin flexible high capacity battery that will revolutionize battery life on smartphones, but until then, these features will just be a way to impress others...i'm not even sure you'll see that much of a difference between our screens and a 4K screen.

Sony's mobile division is losing $1M a day. The pricing on the Z5P makes the Note 5 look like a bargain. Can you imagine the impact a 4K screen will have on battery life; especially when at 8+" away from the screen you won't be able to tell the difference from QHD? I wish Sony well but if I were to bet I'd say their mobile division will be sold within a year. Their entire business (with the exception of PS) is in trouble and they can't carry a $365M annual loss forever. Three new high priced phones aimed at a shrinking Western market niche (high end smartphones) isn't going to get them anywhere. Just like the gorgeous M7 that set a design standard when it was released couldn't help HTC who's on their death bed. If I were to look at another Android brand it would be LG. They, like Samsung, have a deep pocketed conglomerate parent and they actually make money in mobile. It was $1 per phone last quarter but it's better than what everyone else (but Samsung) are experiencing.

I think it's £699 Right? So that's probably about the cost of an iPhone 6+ 128gb in usd. For 1/4 of the memory. ouch
Like I said before I'm with you, plus won't the battery usage being higher for video since it's an lcd screen? They're claiming 2 day battery but idk
Yes I was reading with all the mid-tier phones being so good, these higher priced phones are losing sales. If they lose their mobile division how will they offer the free year of playstation plus for buying their latest Xperia Z
I'm so confused on Samsung's financial situation, I thought they were doing bad with the s5/note 4 so they made these radical changes to try and recoup their mobile business

Samsung throws so many things out at once, idk if I would call that slow. Heck they even have tizen phones.
I would agree but Sonys claiming 2 day battery life.
The thing is to see the difference, you need something to showcase it off. I'm not exactly sure what sony is going to do to show off 4k. I've owned the tab s, s6, and now note 5, and deepening my connection 1440p video is already hard to handle lol.

good thread.
I've been considering whether to wait for the Z5 or take the plunge and buy note 5 now.
The price is a factor as Z5 is more expensive but mind you it does look brilliant better then note 5.

I would have bought note 5 in an instance where it not for TW and i do prefer sony UI.

Definately sounds like you would enjoy the Z5 more. Maybe you could get it on a payment plan, if it seems too expensive.
If you're into rooting, I would check out the z5 forum first. On one of the older Xperia Zs unlocking the boot loader affected the camera software, idk if they ever found away around that since I don't frequent over their too often.

Nope. That division is Samsung Semiconductor. The number I shared is purely for mobile devices. They sold $22B in mobile devices last quarter alone.
