It would probably take a lot of time and effort as the tab 2 is based on an entirely different SOC. By the time we can get something working there will probably be an official update out for us.
Good luck for anyone who wants to give the a try though!

I think they were referring to the port of sense 4 for the nexus s but it would be pretty cool for us! I shame the hox resolution is just below our tabs!

XDA is no longer worth my time.

If you could have waited for the firmware to come out. Our tab and tab 2 would make no difference except the name has 2 I it and the chipset. That's all. Why port when you can wait for a little little longer

If you really want to do something, find a way to write a camera driver for ICS!
I don't write FW, hell I can barely write PC code...but couldn't the camera driver for an older version be used as a starting point? Voice of ignorance asking here.

Samsung and Google didn't release HC source, so there is no way currently to use the old camera driver of the older version.
It should be coming soon though, if ICS for Tab is actually rolling out next month.

How is this possible? I thought android is licensed under the GPL so it is mandatory to provide the sourcecode either public or upon request.

Yeah Google have always supported all devices, it's the manufacturers and operators that don't. My wife and friends have been burned with Samsung updates so I'm not touching them until they prove they will support their own devices.

The reason I chose the Xoom. I will always have the most up to date tablet OS. As long as the Xoom meets the minimum specs that is.
With google announcing that the tab 10.1 will get honeycomb 3.1 in the next two weeks, that is already a good start.

The limited edition which was given out at IO does not come with Touch Wiz. That doesn't say the regular edition won't.
Hard to believe Samsung will be pushing out updates 2 weeks behind Google when they are 6 months+ behind on their older devices. Then again Samsung are all sales and no after care, if they do roll out Honeycomb 3.1 in 2 weeks it'll be back to normal for Ice Cream I'm sure when they are busy selling some other new product!

ICS: Can it run?

What do you guys think? can it run on the G2/DZ?
i think it might be able to. looking at the code, it might be able to run some things. plus, the galaxy nexus has only a 5mp camera. the G2 has a 5mp camera as well, so it could be capable of some ICS camera features, maybe all of it. i am keeping my fingers cross that ICS can work on this phone!
If it can run on both Nexus S and Nexus One, i don't see why not on G2?

Where did you get this info?
there was a basic honeycomb port a while back, and thats before we had a real source for honeycomb. Now that we'll have the ICS source, we should be able to run it. It'll just take time to get developers (and google) to have a working release.

If it can run on the Nexus S, it will definitely run on here. I'm ready for it.
honestly from looking at it id be willing to run just stock rooted ICS, without any sort of special ROM on top, it looks fantastic and if it happens ill at least make it one of my boots in boot manager, looks to be top notch and im so excited for devs to get it working on the G2! they have all of my support!
of course it can run on our visions and it will...........soon!!!!

Stock would just be fine with me! My guess is anything above stock, like a sense version of ICS, it will take up too much memory and perhaps slow the phone down.
I hope whoever (cyanogen? ) can get it running. That would be a great thing! I want my G2 to last one more year with the latest software. After that, the next nexus is what I will be aiming for

its confirmed that nexus s is going to get it. also, according to Cohen and Engadget who asked him, any 2.3 device can run it (theoretically).

Unfortunately, we're all going to have to wait until sometime after the source code is released and the CM team can get it working. As far as an official update, I don't think so unless HTC itself posts an update.

We're supposed to sell our Tabs an buy the Tab 2. Why would they release something to slow the sale of the Tab 2? I'm sure when the Tab 3 comes out with 4 cores and the number of Tabs being used drops to less than 3% they will release source with ICS. Of course nobody will be using ICS by then.

Did you read this in your head before you posted it? Have you taken the least amount of time to analyse it before posting?
1- AOSP agreement obligates anyone who releases an os based on android to relase the source code
2- As for the latest agreement, any provider is to ensure update for 18 months following the release
3- ICS was already annouced for the Tab 10.1
4- Only apple disciples sells their devices to get the "new one wich is almost the same but Apple says it's new so it's better", most of the consumers will try to get the most out of their devices and will not follow this line.

No matter how good our developers are, they still need Samsung to do their part. FOR EXAMPLE... Take a picture with your 10.1 using ANY ICS ROM that our developers have put together. Plus, to be completely honest, we shouldn't have to count on our NON-PAID, VOLUNTEER devs to make the software everything that it SHOULD HAVE BEEN when released from Samsuck.

I am in the same boat as you. I should of learned with the Captivate how they do things in regards to updates but I didnt. The only way I will still buy a Samsung product is if they are making the next nexus phone or tablet. That way factory images will be provided and then I can just flash the updates myself and not have to wait for them to update it for me.

[NEWS] Tab 10.1 Banned in the States

Samsung's taken steps to ensure the the Note 10.1 is different enough from the iPad that this shouldn't be an issue.
