Buy a Galaxy Note now or wait.....and dispair - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Well I have been reading about people asking the same questions for a while but my situation is a bit different.
My current device is a HD2 EU and my only 2 smartphones have been this one and the Xperia X1.
Both of them very good and I can't complaint about anything as they have served me well, well beyond what the manufacturers would like them to. This of course was only possible due to the tired-less work of all the developers here on XDA.
Well but now I have decided to sell my HD2 and I need a substitute. In 10 min the auction will end and by tomorrow I will not have a smartphone
As soon as the reviews of the Note started to show up I thought to myself that this one would be a device for me. I remember people saying that the HD2 was huge back in 2009 and today it is considered a normal sized device.
The question that concerns me is that I have am about to spend a lot of money on the Galaxy Note, right now that the Quad-Cores are coming out.
I normally buy my phones of eBay, but the price of it new with a 2 year warranty is almost the same (maybe 30 euros more expensive) than used in a very good condition.
Should I get something much worst like a the original Galaxy S of eBay and wait for the Note 2 to arrive. Or should I buy a new Note from Germany for 430 Euros?
Thank you all for your help.

I wouldn't wait for the Galaxy Note 2 because there's absolutely no rumor about it yet, so it might not get released very soon. And I would definitely not get a Galaxy S right now, because it's really outdated. Better go for a Note, S3 or even an S2.

I have a Galaxy S. I love it, but yeah it's outdated now. I am toying with the idea of a Note or waiting for a Note2 also. I am going to start doing my research now...

HD2 was a great device, when HTC was top of the game. Things have definitely changed.
I guess for your requirements (going for the best device currently) you have there options.
1. Galaxy note, the display is what makes this device, it is unbeatable.
2. HTC one x, again, I think HTC have had their day with market beating devices. I've seen a lot of reports that the new sense ui just doesn't work, ie causes fcs an awful lot. IM sure they'll update it.
3. Galaxy s 3. Personally I think it beats the HTC one x hands down.
But as a note owner, I would say that quad core just can't be utilised properly as yet, you'll see a lot of google reports saying that dual cores are actually still favoured for coping with more threads and therefore comparible performance over quad. If your looking for visuals as well as performance, the note can't be beat, I've looked at one alongside a galaxy nexus and there really isn't any comparison, you get sooo much more from the note.
That being said, nfc is pretty spectacular if it's somethings you'd use and that is the only thing I crave after.
It's without a doubt that there will be a lot of spectacular devices being released in upcoming months, probably most next gen performance handsets around September or October. It's a tough time to make a decision. All the best.

Thank you all for your quick replies. Especially SpiderTracks (+1), I will most probably just go and order mine from Germany (so that it has the ICS update and it's a bit cheaper).
Before Note came out I was considering getting a Tablet, but then it struck me. I have a desktop PC for heavy lifting, I have a Ultra portable 11,6 Notebook with 7h of battery for portability and when I am surfing in my living room, I have a Smartphone which can also surf reasonably well when needed so if I get a tablet I will have 4 devices that do +/- the same thing and I am only one .
After this reflection I went and sold my desktop PC, as I never got to use it now that I am a father and I have no time for gaming. I also sold my HD2 (the auction just finished so I already have some €€ to help me with the Note purchase).
I am drawn to the Galaxy Note not because it has a dual core CPU, but because it promises to be a hybrid between a tablet and a smatphone. If I can brows comfortably with it, read e-books and still use all the features that HD2 has like GPS, calling, texting, etc. I will be glad with it.
I am just a bit disappointed by the S-pen reviews, as I would love to use it as my minutes taker when I have complicated meetings, but if I can not write reliably and fast on it as many reviewers say, than it has not much use to me.

All this and more, took my HOX back after 3 days, combination of **** battery life and just general poor performance.
Have had my Note for 24 hours or so now and have to say im glad I paid the extra to get it.
Am slightly disappointed by the writing with the S Pen, though i'm sure that Samsung being Samsung wont let rest as it is, no doubt they will be some ROM work upcoming which will let you take advantage of this tool.
I have had a couple of strange looks in the office though while using it today, including at one point someone asking me if I had an iPad to my ear!!!

I was thinking so when I was bought my notes (I will have pocket Tablet ) ... I do not like android but there is nothing similar on the market (Apple is too expensive)
The truth is that I am disappointed with the Note. I think I was wrong because not bought a tablet (the phone is still a phone). I think I'll wait a little ... to wait WP8 ... and then I'll sell it.

German Notes dont come with ICS pre installed. SO you will have to kies Download or OTA the update - dont know if that works from india.
Also the official ICS update has LPY kernel and is therefore a risk of bricking your device.
For me, a simple factory reset from the settings menu bricked my Note.
I got my replacement today and installed the newest cm9 nightly without any problems. Thats also the only ICS rom wihtout the risky LPY kernel.
If i where you, i wouldn't buy from germany to get official ICS. Just buy where you can get it cheap.
By the way: i think you can write quite reliable with the S-pen. I was a bit disappointed too, as i thought the pressure sensitivity would be more noteable. But after installing sketchbook pro and ICS thats no issue anymore.
The samsung apps do quite e good job for quick memos. For long meeting memos you might want to get a fullscreen app with more specific features as the screen is not on the big side for writing.

i will suggest u really sincerely! Note is a really great device! it is an awesome piece of technology and i definitely would recommend this phone to everyone! but the fact is it is not everyday thing that u go for such an expensive phone. everyone knows the fact that samsung is UGLY at software updates! it does provide next to no support to its phones! i know many of you would be thinking this to be wrong and i should let u all know that would be just for the sake of commenting not the reality! this is the reality that samsung does not provide DESERVING support to its phones!
lets come to the topic! i would recommend u personally and sincerely that u should wait for either S3 or even the Next Galaxy Nexus phone! YES its about to come! it will be equipped with even more better GPU! the Mali-T604. u might also look for the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet! go for the Note if you have LOADS of money!!!

Note all the way.

I want to thank you all for your precious advice. I am considering it all along with my research, but I can't justify spending 380 euros on a phone that is not the Galaxy NOTE. For example the Nexus S is the same price as the German NOTE and the Galaxy SII is about -50 euros cheaper than the NOTE so I cannot justify getting them.
The HTC ONE X is about 100 euros more expensive (650 euros), and so far the reviews have not been great. It is not much smaller than the NOTE without its' flexibility and battery life.
So let’s hope that I get a good one without many bugs, nevertheless I have a 2 year guarantee which I intend to use if something is wrong.

Thank you for the information. Could you please elaborate a bit on it? I understand that it does not come with ICS pre-installed and that I would need to do the update myself, which is not a problem as it is an official one. This is the first time that I read that a phone can be bricked by flashing official updates without a powecut (which can be solved by a laptop) or the USB cord getting disconnected in the middle of the flashing process.
Do all the German G.NOTEs come with this bug or not? The difference in price from buying one in Belgium is about 50-100 euros cheaper to get it from Germany that is why I was considering it. As the ROM is multilingual, and I never use the manual anyway the only prerequisite is being unlocked which they are.
So if you could explain that a bit I would greatly appreciate it.

I don’t have loads of money, that is why I am approaching this purchase very cautiously, but as I explained in the beginning of this reply from the economic point of view it looks like a smart choice when compared to the rest.
All of my smartphones were bought second hand from eBay but in very good conditions, nevertheless the price of a G.Note on ebay that is in good condition is so close to the price of a new one from a reliable shop and a 2 year guarantee that I just can’t justify getting it anywhere else.
Let’s hope I won’t regret it in 2 or 3 months

The note has bottomed out over 200 pounds over here in UK since release, I think it's fantastic value.
Seriously, once you experience the screen, coupled with performance, you won't want anything smaller, it's awesome! All the best

My Note experience
I would like to share my Note experience.
I am using it now for about 2 months and I am really really very happy with it!
The Note is absolutely a unique phone, with its huge and wonderful display and its amazing S-pen.
It took me some time, but now I find myself using more the pen than the finger!
I am also starting again to write with my hand! that's so cool! It was already forgotten - just typing and typing... but now I can write!
So, when I want to send a more personal email, I do it on hand-write! It feels so natural - and there is no one that doesn't wonder about it!
And this experience ONLY the Note can offer!
It surely is not a phone for every one, because it is big! But I am big and have big hands and pockets, so for me is ok.
The decision is yours, but I would warmly recommend you to get your Note as soon as possible!
Regarding bricks, don't worry - just avoid doing factory reset or full wipes, and that's it! This forum is full of safe guides - so just follow them.
My Note I upgraded to ICS using Odin with stock FW (LPY) to avoid waranty void. So far I can say that the ICS upgrade gave the Note an even better experience, including the Premium apps for the S-pen.
The Note 2 will be probably announced just in October, so it means at least 6 months wait and, of course, higher prices too, especially now that the Note prices droped a lot, making it an incredible bargain for a premium phone it is!
Go for it!!!

Why did you buy now and not wait?

I'm just curious to get some opinions on why most of you bought the Galaxy S Tab now instead of waiting for better hardware, Honeycomb or any of the other fated reasons to wait?
Also if you choose to speak up as to why, can you also include whether or not you got it with a contract?
Thanks
Okay here's my answer . I know of nothing coming down the line that is worth waiting for...
The Tab seems to play videos fine, so I have no need of a faster CPU.
The screen is nice, and since AMOLED has failed (thus far atleast) to live up to the power consumption hype, and since I'm not a fan of unnatural "glowing" colors that's not a feature I'm particularly interested in either.
New versions of Android are coming out all the time, so that's never a good reason to wait (would be waiting forever in that case). Also Samsung has said Gingerbread is coming for the Tab. What makes honeycomb more wait-worthy than whatever comes after honeycomb again? I don't miss any tablet-features on the Tab, and the reviews that keep mentioning that Froyo is not tablet-optimized strangely never really mention in what way that is the case. It seems to fit perfectly on a 7" tablet as far as I can tell.
Battery life is very good, obviously pretty much completely dominated by the screen, and I see no reason to believe that's going to improve by a huge margin in the near future.
7" is the perfect size (since it fits in my pocket both in pants and jacket). The Tab is my only phone and does that job very well for my needs. Again can't think of anything coming down the line that's particularly revolutionary here either. The Tab is the perfect form-factor for me.
So I would actually rather be inclined to ask the opposite question. What is coming soon that should have made me wait?
Edit: And yes I got it with a 1-year contract (in Norway). About the same total price as at retail (~$950), except the contract includes 100 MB data per month for free.
Time is all you have in your life, the sooner you get it, the longer you can enjoy it . If you wait, when should you get one because there always will be better one and cheaper too in your future. Also, I predict when Android is optimized for Tablet, no tablet will have phone capability even though not many people like this big of a phone.
I had a galaxy S. Liked the phone but too many problems. The fact I sold my Galaxy S and only paid an extra £40 for my Tab that doesn't have the problems that plague the Galaxy S made it all worthwhile. Plus 7" screen doesn't hurt
Cause I cant stand the Ipad and its big brother attitude.
Because I'm very impatient
I am not an apple fan although I like the idea of the ipad I could never buy an apple. The ipad was to big for my needs, where as the tab is just the right size. I love the android os even though I have only used it for a month now
My need for a tab is to play movies and music, read emails, eboooks, surf the web and txt. This tab does all of this and much more.
I had the opportunity to do some overtime, the cash from which paid for my tab sim free.
And I love it.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
My reasons
Ditto all of the above.
Had a tosh folio for a week, quite nice but screen poor and toshiba forgot to mention it wasn't finished! Waited for vega for too long and from what I have seen on the modaco thread today, I am glad I didn't.
Kept playing with the tab and my one concern, the price, got sorted when it dropped to £440.
It is great and i love it(but not in a sexual way!)
If I could pay $650 for a 7" phone/video/camera/music/web/eBook reader/navigation/tether and my two kids could enjoy it (playing zoodles) with me then I would do it Plus the fact that 7" is very comfortable in my hand vs a bigger size tablet.
I have the lightest, I believe, 13" laptop (2.9lbs) and the kids still want the tablet. Do I need it? No. Do I want it? Yes
I'm just a tech enthusiast and knew there was enough hype within the hacker community to expect that this thing would see some awesome howebrew ROMs and improvements in the near future. I like to mess around with my gadgets rather than settle for what features they came with. Waiting for honeycomb is no big deal for me either. This things works great as it is and cant wait until the first custom ROM gets released which I feel is just around the corner.

I got mine on Sprint. It was $400 if you signed a contract.
So far I love this thing. It's size is perfect for everything when you are at home.
I love anything tech related and I think the Tab has something really good going for it.
It was the right timing for me. I was looking into the HTC Desire HD while i was travelling in Taiwan. I found I love Android (compared to iPhone OS) when i had the HTC Desire. But i "desired" a larger screen. As well, i use the phone mainly for work. When I noticed the Tab had cellular capability, i decided to look for it instead of the Desire HD.
The 7" screen, portability, quick performance and great screen size (for my old eyes) was the payoff.
I dont have a contract as i bought it outright from a local taipei store.

This guy speaks the truth.
You never know when you are going to die (seriously). You can walk outside the door right now, get hit by a car (god forbid) and die. Lighting can hit you when you least expected. A tree can fall down on you. You can get sued by someone else. You can get framed for something you never did. You can get robed. So many things can happen when you least expect it.
So get your Galaxy Tab now before its too late.

Lets hear it for the early-adopter mantra!
And by the way, one reason Apple does so well is that there is a veritable ARMY of early-adopters who then sing the praises so that the wafflers and fence-sitters feel comfortable making a decision..or rather, having that decision made for them.
There's a certain comfort in that, and a certain amount of common sense, but if we were ruled by common sense, we'd still be banging rocks together as race.
man to me this is the best device out there right now,and this is coming from a dude that had every ihone/ipad that apple made.my last apple garbage was the iphone 4,i got tired of steve and apple telling me what i can and can't do with my device that i paid for,i was able to do more with my galaxy tab right out the box when i got did not even have to root/jailbreak it lol.i got the euro model unlock man i will never buy an other apple device ever again, and i hope some one here from sumsung is reading these comments on how not to **** with your customers on the next tab that they make.give us the full functions of the device or you will lose customers just like apple.
I'm going to be totally honest, I bought the Tab just for the hell of it. I wasn't in the market for a tablet, Ipad, Netbook or laptop I just happen to be at Best Buy and ran acrosss the Tab that they had on display. After doing that for about 2 mins I told the rep to get it for me. I also have the Evo and while I love my phone, the Tab is getting a little more love from me. Once Samsung comes out with the new Tab with better specs and the Amoled display im selling this one and get that. Until then I will continue to enjoy my purchase.

I got mine now because I waited long enough for it. I'm sure there will be other awesome tablets that will be cheeper with honeycomb and whatever else will come out but looking at how it is with every other device there will be a way to get those on here too.
I was sick and tired from my WM6.5 device. I had the Samsung Giorgio Armani.
I waited for a Samsung Galaxy with hardware keyboard. Then came the Galaxy Tab and I went to the shop and the moment I was using it I told the sales person I wanted to buy it. Still getting used to the Android environment but loving every moment.

[Q] From HTC HD2 (TMobile) to Galaxy Note

Is it worth the upgrade, considering I paid full price for a SIM-free HD2 about 3 years ago and would be doing the same with the Note now?
Is the Note's screen brighter than the HD2?
How about the weight difference?
Is it possible to read PDFs on the Note? On the HD2 is a bit of a nightmare, as I need to zoom all over the place to read properly.
Does it play Divx out of the box?
Finally, when will the Note get an ICS upgrade? Gingerbread is old news already.

TBH its amazing, the hd2 is an old toy, was good back in the day buts its slow and old! Its 2011 remember!
I had an HD2 on T-Mo and I've upgraded to the Galaxy Note and I'll tell you it's the best decision I've ever made! The HD2 was awesome at the time but after using the note for just over a month it makes the HD2 feel a tiny and outdated piece of hardware. Viewing pdf's is so easy on the Note with all the real estate and you'll have no issues with needing to zoom, I regularly view bus and train timetables and at the standard zoom I can read everything without any issues or strain.
The screen is a million times better than the HD2, I can't even describe! I had both devices briefly before I sold my HD2 and everything just looked pixelated in relation, I don't know how I ever used it! The Note is seriously the best piece of tech I've ever had in my pocket. The only thing I can think of that was better on the HD2 is that the sound was better when I plugged it into a set of speakers but otherwise the Note is superior in every way.
I have used the HD2 since it first came out. I have installed Android and WM7 on it because it is an awsome and flexible phone. I also had a galaxy Tab 7". When I first saw the Galaxy Note it was love at first sight. I have been using it for 2 weeks now, and everyday it gets better. I now use the one device for everything. I recommend the note.
Last two years switching between HD2 and Milestone. I missed sometime hardware keyboard from Milestone or the size of the two phones when i'm in subway or bus ^^ but can you remember me of what phone(s) we are talking now?
Can't wait to take the train of plane to watch some good stuff on it.

I too, am sooo twitching to get one...
At the moment of writing this post both my HD2 and GNote are sitting on the table, the HD2 in the craddle, while the GNote waiting hers to arrive from the ebay,
I have been using the Hd2 for the past 2 years, and never thought anything else could replace it its almost as new as day one,its the longest time I have ever stayed with a phone, may be couple of weeks more or less than my first iphone.
Hd2 is the greatest phone I have ever had,Screen, size, camera, built quality, and despite porting the WP7 and Android on it from time to time I remained loyal to WM with CleaNEX custom ROM, since everything I needed I could do on it,it was and still is a great phone,I can go on and on pages about it.
However time goes on and changes come along with it.
I bought my GNote one week ago,and should say that it is by far the better device, the wow factor is awsome, just beware of the Iphone users they could get too hostile when seeing it!!.
When buying the GNote I promised myself that I use the HD2 from time to time, but looks like will not happen.
You can play all kind of videos on it by installing the MXvideo app from the market.Cant be compared to the old Core Player.
Gingerbread is not as bad as you may think it is,though every each one of us are waiting for the ICS,We have two SG tab 10.1 Honeycomb at home cant see much difference.
HD2's sound is much higer after insatlling the SRS WOW HD on it,but samsungs sound quality is unmatched.
I paid $750 for my GNote, for that money did I get the equivalent of more functionality than the HD2 ?hard to say,but should say that I enjoy using it more than keeping the money in the pocket.
I would surely buy again.
I still have HD2 and have the note since a few days.HD 2 is still a great device.I only upgraded because of broken glass.HD2 is made of better quality parts.best example is the battery cover.HD2:stylish metal, note: extreme thin plastic, almost like paper.
But: the note has a great display and is great and better in technical aspects.I would never change it back.it is a great device.

I recommend the note.

same same same... i even had the GTp1000 7 inch for about 6 months.
All on AT&T phone and data...
This GN7000 is the best of both worlds.

OP, are you still on T-Mobile or are you switching to AT&T? I ask because getting the Note for T-mobile = no 3G.

Neither one.
I'm not in the US at all. I got the Tmobile version because it has more RAM and it came unlocked.

More than happy to shurrup if it doesn't work this time and go back under the rock whence I came. I've already wasted three posts and all your valuable reading time on this.
Well,
Here I am sitting with my HD2 with it's guts out (switching SIMs, microSD...) and the shiny new note getting charged by its side (not switched on yet!). Looks like we HD2 owners love big screens and great performance, right?
But my HD2 is not getting sold, no way! I'm flashing it anew so my mother can have a great phone for many years still!
Got to go (and check howto root/flash new ROMs )
i have been using my SGN for close to a week now. I have had HD2 and I liked the phone but got tired of changing roms and wanted a real (native) device. I bought the HTC G2 and liked the fact it had a real keyboard. I am cheap and would not consider paying more them 300 bucks for a nice phone off craigslist. I live in dominican republic and to my shock, SGN was being displayed in the store of "claro" phone company. At first, the phone intimidated me by it's huge size, but when i saw the screen lit up, my jaw dropped. Wow, i mean, wow. This phone is super slim, fast and has a brilliantly lit sharp screen, full of vibrant colors. I just could not get enough of this phone. I went back several times to the store, just to see the phone in the display window. I was almost ready to pay 700 bucks on ebay to order one from hong kong, but i saw an ad on local craigslist type page: samsung galaxy note (new) for 650 bucks. Seems like some guy got one and didn't know what to do with it. he didn't even know how to change the language into spanish. I offered him $560 (US-dollars) and got the phone from him in original box and plastic stickers. All I can say is, I can't seem to get my eyes off this phone. Its the most amazing phone I have ever had in my life. I don't think I can ever go back to a normal 4.3 inch screen phone again. go buy this phone, it will change your life.
3 years on the hd2? Wow that's crazy. I can't make it 6 months on one phone

hey guy.
now i'll try to give you a feedback too
spending most of my time on the htc hd2, flashing around, i have to say it WAS the best phone i have ever had.
a couple of weeks ago my hd2 wasn't the old (there was a mistake) and i startetd to think about a new one.
my hd2 is now okay (repaired again) BUT the note, which i bought 3 weeks ago is amazing. the screen is wow, the size not too big, but big enough for watching movies or play a good round fifa 2000 (psx)
its a new age that will be opend for you .. its fast its big it must be yours.
if you have any detaild quastions ask. and i will answer it (or anybody else here in the forum) )
p.s. buy it !!
I had the HD2. Was my daily phone for over a year. My phone was the US T-Mobile version and even when i came back in the UK it was perfect. Runs on the 3g networks here, fully unlocked and hspl unlocked.
In the 8 months since being back in the UK I've had the HTC Sensation and the Galaxy S2. While great phones, i still couldn't say goodbye to the trusted HD2. No matter what, there was and always will be something about that phone. Even by todays standards it was that good. Then came the Note and it's the first device that exited me as the HD2 did. My HD2 has since been donated to a friend but he knows that if he doesn't look after it, I'm having it back. Hell, even the Pocketnow.com website has referred to the HD2 as the beast that just won't die. That's what made it a great phone, what still makes it a great phone.
Do i regret getting the Note? No. Not now, not ever.

HTC HD2 was launched in November 2009, not 2008. I have mine since Dec 2009, makes 2 years on 23th of December
Great build quality, timeless design (HTC Titan is the only one I find as classy, it is truly HD2 sucessor) and nice screen for e-reading (I enjoy the low level of brightness it can acheive and the white tone, it doesn't strain my eyes). And, of course, all the epicness of waiting and trying beta builds of Android, WP and now ICS. It's just too damn fun.
But, since 2 years correspond to 10 years in geek time, I'm searching for a new phone to play with. Sensation XL has the perfect size to me, but it's just too damn ugly and has a low res screen for today's standards. What about Galaxy Note? The screen sharpness is amazing, I appreciate the S-Pen feature and 5.3" makes me drooll. But... I can't overcome the fact that quadcore phones with hdmi-out are just around the corner and that I hate touchwiz and Samsung over saturated and "dark" colors. Plus, I fear 5.3" is just a little to big to use as a phone.
If a stock ICS ROM becomes available, I might overlook Note's massive size and buy one 'till Christmas.

Galaxy Tab 7.7 - Samsungs forgotten son?

Am I the only one who feels as if the 7.7 was left out to dry? Long story short, I recently sold my GT 10.1 due to its size and in my opinion, sub standard resolution & display. With that said, I'm back in the market for something smaller, slightly faster & with removeable storage. Even though this device is over a year old, it still seems to be one of the best options in its particular category. I think the RIDICULOUS price had a lot to do with the underwhelming adoption, but I'm sure the price has since dropped making it a reasonable option.
I looked at the Nexus 7 & its a beautiful device, but I need that extra .7 inches & the gorgeous Super AMOLED+ that the 7.7 offers. I did taken a considerable amount of time reading through some of the relatively older threads, but I think its always nice to get some relatively newer updates and opinions especially considering how fast development in the Android world progresses.
I just need that little extra boost in confidence before I spend $400 or so on an older tablet.. Can the dual Exnyos keep up with today's & tomorrow s tech? Have you seen, heard or experience any issues ( small or enormous ) on a regular basis? Any insight and personal experiences would be greatly appreciated? BTW, I'm new & this is the first of many threads I hope to post, so thanks in advance for any help!
If the price difference is small I defenatly go for the Tab 7.7, and the only argument you need is the brilliant superAMOLEDplus screen.
Downside would be "no jelly bean", but ICS works very vell on the device, so personally I don't pay to much attention to the problem.
The dualcore exynos does a good job, and with overclocking even better, @1,6GHz it feels snappy and don't feel any slower than my Tegra 3 quad core HTC One X, maybe even faster when surfing
I bought a Nexus 7 and sold it on eBay within three weeks. It didn't compare to my rooted 7.7 running CM10. My GF also has a 7.7, but is super clumsy. I wanted to check the N7 build, see if it may survive a scrape or two more, but the superAMOLEDplus screen alone made it her and my preference.
As for those shopping blindly for the highest quadrant score, why? What's the point?

Abree :good:
There is nothing comparable, and ICS is more than good enough
I appreciate all of the input folks. I think I'm going to bite the bullet & go ahead & get the 7.7 - Until recently, storage wasn't a big issue for me, but lately I'm finding a genuine need to be able to add my own SD card in order to save all of my media files, as I shoot a great deal of video & have a music collection that could rival anyones. I know Google is attempting to get people to rely more on cloud based services, but I don't always have a great data connection & not to mention the inconvenience of not being able to quickly & easily access your files at time.
Its a shame that it was priced soooooooo high - I think that's a big reason it never received the "love" it deserved.. & also, I believe it was only available on a contract through Verizon here in the US ( $499 for a tablet on a 2yr contract??????? No thanks ). I'm just scouring the web in search of a Wi-Fi version for $350 or less - Anyone have any suggestions on where to search? Is $300-$375 a reasonable expectation for this tablet now?

if I were you, i will avoid Chinese and other foreign countries for a new tab, their warranty is available in their home country, so you need to send it back if something goes wrong.

Galaxy Tab 7.7
Here in my country. 7.7 price has been dropped that its like 2000 pesos higher than the p1000 tab(yes! That good ol 1st gen tab!) 2k php is roughly 50bucks! Still. More opted to grab the gtab 2 or the 7.0plus.
What set this besides the Samoled screen. Thickness - I installed zagg iShield and use this as is. Most people noticed how thin this thing is compared to other slates.
And yes - in the sea of quadcores, this tab still kicks as$, Screen resolution is enough for desktop style browsing. USB on the go is really useful if you have a high capacity thumbdrive, you can play movies directly from usbdrives.
Lastly - with people aiming on other devices, our tab is a novelty item lol
-source
I've only had the 7.7 for 6 days and the OLED screen is enough to make me wana pick it up every 10 mins - standard.
Aren't we all?
P6800 may be Samsung's forgotten son, but aren't all the forgotten sons the most capable sons?
Forgotten son indeed. I wonder whether the UK will ever get ics officially rolled out after all this Apple lawsuit business. More worryingly, the 7.7 is not even on Samsung UK's website as a listed product anymore.
It IS still one of the best tablets around. I have the note 10.1 but still pick up my 7.7 due to sheer portability and thinness...also the lovely cold metal feel. I think it IS still worth purchasing. In UK, carphone warehouse prices are good. But new purchasers should bear in mind that official support might be minimal if existent at all.

I just bought one last week from Carphone warehouse in the UK and now in Lithuania pondering whether to install ISC.the odin way.. hmm..
My major problem is i know NOTHING about all this root/flash/brick/kermal malarky and paranoid to ruin my working 7.7
After reading so many threads (and pos/neg responses) its still a gamble to me, losing wifi alone would drive me insane, so i might just wait till its kies-able (could be 2013 by then tho)
What an amazing tab tho it is. OLED for the win!

Do flash ICS with Odin, it is not difficult, and it is much better than HC :good:
Later you can root with standard recovery and flash CWM recovery with Odin, thats all you really need

Just download an ICS build. Root, install locerra's CWM and backup your ROM. Then, install ICS through Odin/Mobile Odin (you may need to reinstall CWM after that). See if it works well for you. If it doesn't, you may try other AOSP ROMs, such as CM10 and ParanoidAndroid 2. If you find that HC is still the best for you, reboot into recovery and restore your original backup. It will be as if nothing had happened to your tab between the moment you backed it up and the moment you restored.

There is one thing I don't understand. The P6800XXLQ2 firmware is built for several European countries, not only for Austria but also for Hungary, Italy, etc. and UNITED KINGDOM! Just check it on the Samfirmware website.
So, why you and other forum-mates say that there is no UK ICS ROM? It is simply not true.

I was so sure the Nexus 7 would entice me at first sight, but the 7.7 has spoilt me. The Nexus 7 screen somehow felt way too small, the build way too clunky and... It just didn't feel... Premium.
The software though... It'd be nice if Samsung put some effort in.
Love the 7.7. Worth every dollar. ICS is sufficient. The tablet just feels and performs like nothing else. I am happier than a fly on a **** wagon

Just tried gnote2

Hi all,
Just been in to my local car phone warehouse, they had stock in and let me play with the display model..
Super smooth and v responsive but I have a few things to ask..
1. Does anyone. Know if this phone is EE 4g ready? I find it unbelievable that a phone is on sale without info on this!!
2. Do people think the addition cost of the contract is worth it over the gs3 which currently has some impressive deals?
Any help is appreciated as I am planning on upgrading today to either of these... Or if anyone can convince me to wait till wp8 is released I'm willing to listen!!
Thanks
There both good phone in there own right its down to persanal preference. Size etc note 2 is better specs with pen. .if u wear skinny jeans its a nono
It's not 4g ready, and personally I prefer this phone over the S3. I have recently bought my wife the S3, it's a great phone, but the screen is too small for me. Plus note 2 has a stylus and the S3 doesn't.

Skickat från min GT-N7100 via Tapatalk 2
I'm waiting on the store manager to see what he can do for me in terms of tarriff then I'll go finalise with him later today...
A little disappointed that it's not LTE ready for the uk I guess that means they will release a new version in a few weeks/month...
My other half has an s3 it's a great phone and realistically gn2 is only better for browsing and video use everything else is pretty much the same... I can't see know the pen will be of any use in say a months time when the novelty wears off...
And also there is chat on other threads about some versions not having all the features in the advert videos... Such as multi screen, Samsung are properly rubbish at launches this kind of stuff makes them look so amateur they have an awesome product line why not work on marketing and getting the little details right.?
Yep, Samsung are pathetic at product launches.
good

great:good:
So went and got one anyway...
Handset is good, decent enough size to fit in the pocket, super responsive and the pen feels great, the extras they have added in for the are very useful also..
Build quality is usual Samsung, feels cheapish but still very sturdy and iv not had any real ability issues with either my sgs or sgs2 so assume this to be the same.
So there's no multi view in my rom which is ALIE so a little disappointed but I'm sure it will be easy to resolve once more people have the handset..
Doesn't seem to have the live recording feature either which I thought would be useful
Browser is very fast and all apps load pretty much instantly, but to be honest speed etc is the same as the s3 it's only better due to the extra included features...

So looking to upgrade to a new phone soon...

I wanted to get people's opinions about the Note II.
Do you guys like the phone?
What is the state of the roms do they have full functionality of the s-pen?
Do the roms have the ability to hot spot?
How difficult is this to root (i have rooted all my devices from the original evo to the 3d, and nexus 7, and etc) does this fall into the average difficulty or does it get odd (jubunto wire trick...)
Is the moding community active/healthy?
I know these are a lot of questions, but but my evo 3d is dying and I might have to etf my line loose my phone number in order to replace this(unless I want to rebuild my system two times once when I get my evo repaired and once when I can upgrade in April..) if I am going to do that I want to make a smart decision on a phone that can last me the full two year term on my contract.
Anyone that can and does help thanks in advance.

There is only ONE thing which can go wrong with this phone; since Samsung is not releasing the soruce code for Exynos chipset, developers are having hard time for making daily suitable ROMs and if Samsung suddenly decides to cut updates off after -say- 1 year than Note 2 starts to age rapidly because of the lack of the up-to-date ROMs. But if we look at the SGS2's past it seems like that is not the case. So, nothing to worry about I guess. .
You will not regret buying this phone! When you get used to the bigger screen, it is just too awesome!
To answer one of your questions, it is super simple to root. I believe you can find the program in the dev section
Best android phone so far for me. Had a lot of high ends but note2 was and is the best. Rooting is easy, dont need big knowledge just need to learn to use google or xda search and read a bit. Note 2 community isnt so big now but later it will increase, same as was for other phones, just need more time. If you are not smartphones geek, note 2 could last you even more than 2 years, it is fast, good hardware, nice software additions. You wont regret ;D
Trollol. I would just like to answer 1 question,
It's not HTC difficult to root this phone
Note 2 best handset there is ... stay clear of htc !

you won't regret it. It'll take about 1 day to get use to the phone size after that every other phone will feel too small and like a toy.
I wouldn't even say, "wait for CES". This phone is so capable and powerful it'll still be better than 95% of anything coming at CES. And will easly last you 2 years.
buy it. NOW
omega rom v9. 1 kalgas mixed theme
thought i might put my opinion for you
I have had HTC's for years
TYTN, TYTNII, Touch HD, Desire then Sensation XE
I was used to Rooting HTC's and was flashing roms pretty often trying to get the best battery and performance and when i saw a mate with a Note II i wanted one but was a bit worried with the rooting etc.
Now after using the Toolkit and making Backups of EFS and Nand etc and then rooting , and now just yesterday flashing the latest XXDLL4 rom its turned out to be pretty easy.
As regards to the phone even though it has a bigger screen the battery life is amazing compared to any HTC i have had (a friend has a HTC One X and he struggles to get a day even with light usage ) but i use the note for everything even playing a fair amount of games and youtube vids etc and so far i have not run low on battery before the end of the day .
the speed is superb it just does not feel laggy at all and it's great to actually have 2gb ram as i no longer have to worry about memory management at all.
At first the big screen was weird but after a day or so i could not go back to anything smaller, you just get used to it and then realise that the biiger screen just gives you so much (although i use nova launcher to take advantage of the space)
the Spen is a good feature but not one that i have used a great deal but when i want to write notes its much easier to use the pen rather than my finger.
if i had one issue it is with the size as its difficult to use onehanded but i'm getting used to that.
In conclusion its by far the best Phone i have owned and with all of the HTC phones i have owned i have always looked at the next phones due for release but with this one i cant say that i would look to replace it for quite a while.
Best phone on the market!

But I'm thinking from what you guys said that it would be worth the switch as seeing as how adding a line is activation charge free till the seventh and seeing as how best buy price matches and this phone is going for 199 on both amazon and Frys I need to bite the bullet and jump on this train.
Or would you guys wave me off if the price tag included a new phone number?

For the second consecutive month, the Samsung Galaxy Note II dominated in both the People's Choice Chart and Mobile Tech Expert's Chart in PhoneDog Media's Official Smartphone Rankings™. It went uncontested all month long, never straying from the #1 position. For the time being, the Samsung Galaxy Note II shows no signs of slowing down or surrendering its top spot in the charts.
For the month of December, the Samsung Galaxy Note II proved it was a force to be reckoned with. It held first place in the People's Choice Chart and Mobile Tech Expert's Chart for each week throughout the month.

Yes, you are going to love this phone.
Feel happy with the note 2, big screen, long battery time, fast cpu, 2gigs of ram(really really smooth), write instead of typing anymore, fully feeling its power using s note, floating things, its just the first smartphone that I feel it is really smart :victory:
I'm really close to buying the note 2. The only things stopping me is that the phone has been out for some months now, since September. And I'm a bit worried everyone is going to jump ship when the Sony Yuga (because of sources) and Galaxy S4 (because of hardware) come out.
Goddamnit, I can't decide.
Lol. The next big thing is always around the corner. You could be enjoying a note 2 right now and watch from the side lines comfortably for at least a year right now. I don't want to jump right in to A15 chip sets til they've matured a bit and see who utilizes it the best. I am pretty sure by September/October next year all the big phones will be out except perhaps the next nexus.

Hehe yea I know. It's just that the note 2 has been out for almost 4 months, and it's not like the price has dropped that much, here in denmark. And it seems that the exynos sources aren't coming out, which could add to the lifespan of the phone.
On the other hand, the note has a pen and a huge battery. Decisions, decisions.
