Galaxy note on its way - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

So.... today i dropped my phone (htc desire HD) and smashed the screen
and it really annoyed me for such a stupid mistake so i decided to cheer myself up and get another t mobile line out.
worst thing is my contract runs out in august so i only had a few months to wait.
but anyway.... i took the 2nd line and choose the galaxy note.
few questions.....
what will this start on? will it be 4.0.4 or will it be 3.2 something or other?
if its the 3.2 how hard is it for me to get straight onto 4.0.4?
will i need to root it?
I'm based in london, UK for anyone that might need to know.

note don't run on 3.x, most likely you will get a 2.3 phone. 4.03 was released few days ago in germany.
enjoy the wiki while you are waiting for the phone.

ICS has been available for few days, browse most recent threads in general forum, you'll find all the know-how easily.
PS. Do follow the instructions to the letter.

cheers mate, so i'll be stuck on 2.3 for now? any idea as to when the 4.0 will be available for me?
or would it be easier to root? only reason i'd root is for the 4.0 though so not sure its worth doing.
i cant believe im more angry with myself that i dropped my htc desire hd than i am happy that im getting the note.
im gonna have to just pay the remaining months line rental for a phone that will be stuck in the bedroom draw

But this is for rooted users yes????
I'm more than happy to root my new note, as i've rooted all my other devices in the past, (htc desire HD) (archos 101 g9)
but not sure if its worth the root just for the 4.0

note is great but i would recommend u to go for S3! Note is just a multimedia master, all time champ, throw any thing and it will F*** that in less than u can blink ur eye but S3 is also a good phone..... lols
any ways on the serious i would recommend u to go to S3 cause it is better in terms of software than Note. samsung is not giving a **** about Software of Note. only one official rom and that also full of bricky ****.... Go for S3! it has more bright future!

reason i went for note was....
I have a phone and a tablet, when im out i use my phone (htc desire HD)
indoors i use my tablet, so i thought i'd get something that can do what my tablet does, thats why i chose the note.
I do like the look of the s3, BUT... i want a bigger screen and the note is perfect for what im after.
all i want now is a link to where i can get this 4.0 from? as once the note arrives to me on tuesday, i really dont want the 2.3 crap that comes on it.

So can anyone guide me to the right thread/place ect, so i can update my new galaxy note to 4.0 ???

Nope, running CyanogenMod9 with no problems at all! Gotta be careful though, be sure to read the warning sticky before doing any flashing. It is a bit of reading, but it can very well prevent you from hardbricking/superbricking your shiny new Note.

Sure can. I did. Just use PC Odin to flash the german ICS stock rom.

So where do I get this PC Odin and also the German ics?
And is there any downside to doing this? Like problems with the ics ?

You can, but the official ICS update contains an unsafe kernel that has already claimed Notes (don't know the details, but it's related to doing stuff in recovery). I wouldn't recommend official ICS if you plan on rooting/flashing.

Still trying to get to grips with this new OS and was hoping if you kind people can point me in the right direction as to what settings/what apps I should use to get the best out of my phone

there is no point in changing ROM just because some one tells you to

That's what he asks for. jm8 (the mooded version is just fine)+voodoo is the best you can currently get by so far. stock rom bugs are aweful. Especially lag. Horrible.
you do know the "lag fixes" are the cause of people posting problems with their Internal SD messed up and corrupted?
also people posting about semi-bricked phone unbootable past the boot screen logo?
^^ you're right!

Please do keep in mind that such things to most end users who don't want to get their hands dirty or potentially lose their warranty, are trivial. Not everyone wants to experiment with what's not official. Further more, stating that something is the "best" is pretty baseless. Most users will trust the vendor first. To them, that would be the best! Not to mention that better things keep coming along the way anyway, so it's just best to wait IMHO....

Some would argue that going from N1 to SGS is a downgrade, but oh well I'd try to avoid doing any unofficial flashing for the moment until Froyo is officially released.

I went from a Nexus One to SGS, it is a bit of a downgrade firmware wise, but the screen on the SGS so much nicer, it's worth changing just for the screen.
Keeping in mind that pretty much everybody's is whining constantly about their rom versions, I would upgrade to JPK from 23 September '10 (yes the old and first "real" one) having OCLF over it, and am still pretty amazed by his responsiveness nd decent gps reception.(even playing with it just to see for myself how stable it is)
I have, since a couple of days, increased the minumum cpu to 200MHz for a bit more responce and it's working for me, one full day with a bit less then 2 hours of navigation will not be a problem with this setup.
Maybe and just maybe i'll update to an jpx rom when everybody is satisfied with it, .. hard time restoring hundreds of apps constantly
unless you're having a 'newer is better' mentality, you should go with the pack!
Thanks for the reply compulse, the main reason I would of wanted froyo was for the flash web browsing.
I like the desire hd aswell but the speaker is a bit crap and the screen is a bit washed out, im sure there's not much difference in screen size between the sgs or dhd

Android 4.0 (ICS): F5 is getting bashed, which dev is gunna be first?

Hey guys/gals, Like many of you are probably doin im checking XDA every 10 mins or pressing F5 eagerly awaiting to see who is gunna be first to release a Alpha/Beta/Test port of ICS for our HD2.
I know its still too early and I need to be patient, but I'm like a kid on Xmas eve here
So any guesses as to who is gunna be first to release a ICS port from source?

I think he means that the chance of getting ICS on our HD2s is as remote as getting honeycomb.
Personally, reading other threads, I must agree. Where are we going to get drivers from?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I think there will be a good chance that CyanogenMod makes it work for the Desire, which has the same hardware as a Hd2
Maybe Imilka will..........
Lets keep our fingers crossed....
Well, if someone works on an ICS port to Nexus One, it'll have some drivers for HD2. We use the same chipset...

I agree, considering that gingerbread still has issues here and there, ICS might take a while before a stable version see the light.
I'm not worried much about drivers, Honeycomb was released for tablets mostly, so creating new drivers for the HD2 would take a lot of time, but since ICS is made for smartphones (and tablets) it would be easier to make it work on the HD2. but I may be a bit optimistic.
ICS will happen but its going to take some time. Even when its working it will take more time to polish into a every day rom.
I dont think there will be anything worth flashing until 2012.
me 呵呵呵 哈哈哈
man who stole my F5 key?
Dev's are working on it, patience.

hey do not wait just go to this site -> http://galnetmiui.co.uk/landing/ics-builds/ and enjoy ics miui rom for hd2 curently it is the best rom and fastest rom I tried for htc hd2!

Questions to 70it2 / 70B owners

Hello All,
I have few questions to 70it2 owners:
- How does it charge ? Through specific charger or usb port ?
- How is screen ?
- Did you try to root it ?
If you successfully rooted it, I'd be interested in a dd of mmc to check if I can get the aos keys. It's completely safe for your device, and it would help me for the future...
Thanks,
LeTama

- How does it charge ? Through specific charger or usb port ?
the charge is great, had no problem with it. It comes with 3 adapters from 3 countries:US, HongKong and Europe. Also with a USB cable and
- How is screen ?
screen is 7 inch and it picks up fast but regardless of the cpu usage but try not to use more than one app at the same time
- Did you try to root it ?
still looking but no one has not posted intructions to root it because this device just came out recently. I hope to root it ASAP because i have only have less than 15 days to return this. Thats all

Is it really that much different from the G9?
Yes, it's completely different, soc is previous generation, omap3, single core and slower graphics.
But I don't buy the argument that it would be too slow, we see it running quite smooth on slower platform. And it's supposed to be more efficient than Honeycomb after all.

I wonder for how much you bought it. If you bought it at carphonewarehouse, listed as 70IT and sold for 99 pounds, I think you shouldn't complain...
i have bought it 110euros but i had 100euros of reduction from the firm where i work.
210e real for an error of marketing like my tab. It's just the reality, then i can complain lol
and i don't think that this tab will receive a good support from archos.

He does have a point. If you don't know what you are doing then you could easily turn your new phone into a paperweight. I would recommend you read. Read A LOT about ROMS and kernals and everything else that goes into the custom modding of your phone before you try anything. That's how i started and flashing new stuff is a walk in the park at this point.
Yeah I would stay away from flashing etc. Me being a total newbie on android and on note I'm waiting till official ice cream sandwich release and maybe start to play around with all the advanced goodies. I used iphone since day one and jailbreaking seemed pretty easy but I'm little intimidated by android stuff :/
If you must have urge to play with it try searching on this forum for step by step guide, or try http://rootgalaxynote.com/

What are you after from your note?
If it's media, check out power amp for music, moboplayer for video, maildroid for email.
For basic customisation, and check out Dr ks thread for rooting and Chainfire kernal installation which will prove good for any customisation. Think it's in the stickies. Ics is awesome, but not without its problems especially installing so best check out the precursors.
Welcome dude, may you have lots of fun!

If you would like stock gingerbread, flash lc1 or lc2. Im using lc2 its a very smooth fast rom with at lease one and a half days battery with normal use. But like everyone said read alot until u understand how to flash. Read how to flash lc1 or lc2 because newer roms u need to be already rooted before u can flash them and keep root.
