Tether fix - Transformer TF300T General

I take no credit at all for this fix, but it worked for me. I have an HTC One S unlocked and rooted, downloaded wifi tether and started it but my 300 wouldn't see it no matter what I did in settings. So I remembered there was a fix for the Prime, so I thought what the hay, why not try it, just rename my original wpa-supplicant2 to wpa-supplicant2.bak, applied the patch and now I can see my phone and connect to it no problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438297
IMPORTANT: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING AND DON'T FOLLOW THE STEP BY STEP IN THE LINKED THREAD. YOU BORK YOUR WIFI YOU HAVE ONLY YOURSELF TO BLAME FOR NOT FOLLOWING THE STEPS OUTLINED!

this makes me wonder if the 300 firmware is actually older or behind the prime one. on the last update for prime, over a month ago, this fix wasn't even needed anymore. You can tether normally now. the update erased all the old files and replaced with new ones allowing tether. I guess you all will get the update to allow tethering soon enough.
I'm sure alot would appreciate this fix until the next update for 300 allows it.

It must be something with HTC phones then, I have had 2 different model HTC phones both with the tether issue, this solved that issue for me.

Must be something with HTC Sense, not the hardware. It saw my Evo 4G with MIUI v4 immediately after I turned on the hotspot.
Edit: It might even be the Wifi Tether app. I used the built-in Wifi tether in the ROM.

I have an HTC resound tethered to my tf300 since the day I got it.

No issues tethering with Samsung Charge.

I have a Rezound and my TF300 will see it, but whenever I click on it, it just says "Saved" but won't connect. Every other computer in my house will connect just fine. The TF300 connects fine to other open hotspots. What gives? You think I should give this a shot then?
EDIT: I'm running the latest 4.0.30 firmware for the TF300

Oh dude, you just made my day.....This exact problem has been driving me crazy for days. It worked fine with the Sense ROM I had but I went back to CM7 and it stopped working. Going to try this when I get home and report back.

tethered my galaxy nexus without any tricks using Fox-fi.
using "wireless tether for root users" would allow the TF300 to connect, but it wouldn't transfer any data.

Worked great!

teether works fine on foxfi on my epic touch 4G. The wi-fi on my tf300 is amazing too it's a little faster then my old TF101.
Friend of mine got an HTC EVO 4G LTE though. Foxfi has issues with HTC and HTC did something with wi-fi and bluetooth.
He followed the instructions to get bluetooth dun mode working on his windows 7 laptop. I then had him upgrade foxfi through the site (sprint removed it on sprint google play store). I don't know if it was doing the bluetooth dun mode which failed at first but after the updated version and a reset of the phone it worked.
I couldn't believe it but he can now use his evo 4g lte with foxfi wi-fi teether on stock. I tested it with my TF300T and teether worked fine on that too. Although his connection seems to be a little bit slower then my epic touch 4G but i've heard of a few tricks to make wi-fi better on HTC evo 4g lte.
Anyways did not mean to make this a phone thing but we got his teether working. So I don't know about other phones but I can confirm HTC Evo 4G LTE (Sprint) and Epic Touch 4G works perfectly with teether

[Q] Need Mobile AP for DK28...

I know that this does not work on DK28 currently, but if anyone could get this to work it would be very helpful. This is the only thing keeping me from going back to 2.2. I need it for one of my computers when im not home. Here is the link for it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785719
The guy said he was gong to look into replacing the sprint mobile hotspot with this. If anyone could do this and possibly include it in there rom then I could go back to 2.2. I have seen a few post of people using 2.1 because they also don't have this for 2.2. I hope there is more interest and we can possibly get this done. I would try but I know nothing about how to do it.
Thanks in advance for anyone that is able to do this, or has interest in it.
FYI - I have gotten every wireless device in my house to see and use this app. (ps3, 3 laptops).
I'm on Mammon's Bonzai ROM and using the Sprint Hotspot app just fine. The only issue I'm having is that 4G drops when I get or make a call while using the hotspot.

assuming your paying for the feature as well. Ill take a stab and say he wants a free infrastructure hot spot, which I think as of right now is only possible on 2.1 odexed roms. The original porter of the i9000 ap said hell only port again on am official release. Cyanogen I believe also has it as a possibility, but its not yet working on our port. And the op of that thread says it won't be any time soon.

Kinda sucks but I need it when I'm out and there is no wifi. Haven't activated the Verizon 3g built in yet. Just want an alternative to it since I have the phone, but then again I probably wont go through the 100mb limit it comes with. Wifi Tethering to my phone

so ive got an evo. and i use my wireless tethering quite often. and when the galaxy tab came out, i tried to tether it to my phone, and i couldnt get it to work. i have no interest in a 3g or 4g connection for a tablet, atleast not now. so does anyone have any idea if i will be able to piggyback the xoom off of my phone?

It should work the same as any other wireless device. My wife uses her IPAD off my evo all the time.
have you tried tethering a android device to another android tablet? i tried it with a hero and an evo. couldnt get either to work.

Which did you tether to what. HTC EVO, being designed for tethering has the proper wifi drivers to offer full infrastructure mode tethering. Some other devices, maybe the Hero, originally not being designed for wifi-tethering, only offered a certain kind of tethering that didn't work with some devices. IIRC this was fixed in the freely available Android Wifi Tether app. So if you tried to share your EVO's connection with the Hero, that should have worked. The reverse maybe not so much.
I tethered my HTC EVO to a Viewsonic G-Tablet with no problem so I don't foresee a issue with the xoom.
i was using wifi tether on my evo to provide the galaxy tab with internet. couldnt get it to work. so we tried the wifi tether on my brothers hero, and that would not support it either. im crossing my fingers that the xoom will be able to.
Your wifi tether program might not be working, I had the htc evo 4g and tether to the ipad, laptop, galaxy tab without a problem.

are you using an app or the native tethering btw? theres a few apps that only offer ad hoc wifi which isnt really "meant" for internet. It more of a device to device type thing. while infrastructure is internet to device and thats what you want from your evo. i think i explained that right, i havent slept for like a day. i got too freakin excited about preorder i couldnt fall asleep lol
I had that problem initially with the Viewsonic G-Tablet and with my Kindle. Change the wifi channel in the tethering app to anything but what it is, and try again.
Wireless tether, I've been able to have other android phones and an iPhone see it. For some strange reason barnacle won't show up on a scan with other wifi phones. It's probably going into a different mode that laptops can see but some phones can't.

I think you are right. Android devices can't wifi connect to ad-hoc connections, thus tethering doesn't work. However, if you have hotspot capability on your phone it might be different. Or even different tethering programs that don't do ad hoc. Do these exist?
I could wireless tether the Viewsonic Gtab (pre and post root) to my Evo using Fresh Rom and the included wireless tether. Fast and stable
I'm using the wifi tether app for root users from the android market. And yes it works great with my netbook, work desktop, home desktop, and even my ps3. As well as supplying a connection for a buddies iPhone. But when trying to connect the galaxy tab... nothing. It didnt even recognize it. I guess we will see in a few days. [Q] I'm having WiFi problems with Xoom.

I like pretty much everyone else has at least 1 months Verizon 3G coverage that I do not intend to keep. Especially since I have a Rooted EVO 4G with WiFi tether, and Sprints unlimited Data....
But for some reason the Xoom will not FIND my EVO 4G WiFi. A colleage in an opposite office has a device (iPhone) which finds and connects to the EVO 4G WiFi hot spot no problem, but not the Xoom. It fails to even see it !!
Anyone else had this issue (tethering Xoom to a Cellphone WiFi Hotspot)
Anyone have any idea's on how to fix it? I have tried security settings, changing SSID, changing WiFi channels, changing IP ranges etc etc. Nothing has worked so far
Please, search before posting.
The xoom cannot connect to an ad-hoc network, like from your evo. Check the thread regarding tethering with Bluetooth instead.
There may be a fix but I don't think there is right now.

I haven't read all of the posts on this to narrow down the exact reason, but I can tell you that the Xoom can connect to your EVO. I have been WiFi tethered to my EVO 4G since last Thursday using the stock Sprint application.

As stated earlier, unrooted Xoom devices are unable to connect to ad hoc wifi spots. A good way to test if your phone is an ad hoc devise just flip by Mc Donald's, if your Xoom can see the free hotspot your devise is emitting an ad hoc network. (PS3'S and other similar gadgets cannot connect to ad hoc)
I can almost guarentee it is not your Xoom.

I read pretty much read every post on WiFi tethering (The forums actually do a search for you when you type the title of your new thread) and I was not happy that they answered my question. They are all variations of the same subject, but not specific to mine...
As it goes I have fixed the Issue. All it took was re-downloading the WiFi Tether application from the Market place and all is working. No idea why the Xoom couldn't see the WiFi network and an iPhone could but it's fixed now. So Bye Bye Verizon

In this order: try his method by redownloading the app, also try restarting the devices before the attempt. If this don't work verify that your atrix is not emitting an ad hoc network. If its not, exchange your Xoom.

Not having the same hardware might be the fundamental problem but this is what I suggest....
1) - Make sure you have super user permissions...
2) - Un-install and then re-Install WiFi tether... https://market.android.com/details?id=android.tether&feature=search_result
3) - Start the WiFi tether app on your Atrix perhaps changing the SSID to something other than default, then search for the Hotspot on your Xoom.
Fingers crossed it will locate it, connect to it, and maybe it work...

Using Android Phone as 3G Modem for Iconia?

My G2 works like a champ when I need it to.
If your phone is a bit older, it will most likely not support infratructure tethering and since the default Iconia can't see adhoc wifi, you will need to root and change the wpasupplicant file. I did that and now I can tehpther my old droid Eris to my iconia.

I'm 95% sure it will. The only phones that will tether with adhoc are OG droid era devices. Even then, you can do what I did which was root and change the wpa supplicant so that the iconia sees adhoc.

Don't know why half of my post was missing but.
I was meaning to say that i do have it working with my X10 mini but, i just want to replace it because i feel cheated by the fact that SE have already discontinued the X10 mini (almost as it was released).
But yeah, Barnacle and a ad-hoc fix works great!
Explain to me what you want to do and I can possibly try it. I have both the Bell Atrix and the Iconia.
I am currently tethering the two when I need to with no issues.
I just bumped up my data plan to 6GB for the occasion!
If your phone plan doesn't support tethering you can do the wpa_supplicant fix and use an app like Barnacle to share your phone's wifi ad-hoc to your tablet.
Still uses data, but your carrier doesn't know the difference between phone data and tablet data at that point.

Some phone's hotspot is ad hoc which the tf cannot pickup, that is until the latest firmware update.

Finally works the way I expected it to when I bought it two months ago.
I've got a Windows phone that only shares internet through USB and Wifi. So ad hoc was important to me.
Also, I've been in situations in the past where we had one aircard, and shared internet with multiple users with ad hoc on a laptop. We'd show up to an event, find out the internet was charged at convention center rates (in one place $1100 a day), and immediately set up a private ad hoc network to hold our online, realtime text panel.
Other than having to pay a couple of days of hotel rate internet in the room, I didn't miss anything in the interim between purchase and now.
But man am I glad to have it now. Thanks ASUS!
This was the only reason I was thinking of rooting my transformer

In my experience this is what's needed.
change the SSID from Barnacle to anything else.
Change the channel to 6 or less
put a check in the ignore wpa supplicant line (or whatever it is)
that should do it.
