Flickering along the left edge of the screen. - Transformer TF300T General

I didn't notice a thread about this here yet. The only information we have is that is widespread, goes away on reboot, seems to change when the screen is changed, and the lines do not seem to show up in screenshots.
For those that have been fortunate to not see this yet on a number of tf300's (including at least one review unit) regularly spaced lines appear along the left side and there does not seem to be a consistent cause either in hardware or software.

I've had it, but primarily when docked. Un-dock and it immediately disappears for me....so far.

I had it for about 5 minutes un docked but restarted and it went way. Haven't had it since and it was only on the 17 firmware

Mine goes away on reboot as well. I've had it on .26 firmware. I've never had mine in a dock. It's not very often but I've seen it 3 or 4 times since I got it last week.

like this? i had this aswell.

Yep that doesn't get the full effect but I did notice the twitching along the entire bottom bar.

I'm on the .26 firmware, and I just got the flickering. It's strange. Is this a cause for concern? Would it be an overreaction to return the tablet? Would it matter if this affects all units?

I also had this on both .17 and .26 after update. No dock used.

I have this same issue on my TF300. Thinking it was hardware failure, I returned mine (to Best Buy), and the replacement is also doing the same thing.
Both have also done a few related glitches. Namely, the mouse cursor while docked has become a corrupt square, and the soft keys/notification area will move up and down a couple pixels randomly, which is very disturbing.
As others have noted, this goes away with a reboot. I used the Titanium Backup widget to make a shortcut to do that faster.
I'm starting to wonder if this isn't some kind of app incompatibility. So far, I've noticed that the app "2X Client" (which I use for Remote Desktop) makes it much worse much faster. And, some things don't seem to trigger it at all. My TF300 was playing Pandora with the screen off for 7 hours today and it was fine.

I have had that issue aswell i have been thru 4 my new one seems to be perfect they were from best buy..

Same problem here.
I only started seeing it while on .26.
Mine is rooted and I`m using the 300 mostly docked, so it starts when docked but undocking doesn't make it go away.
A reboot does solve the problem.
Yesterday I installed task killer, in order to be able to kill an app that could have started it.
To me it looks like something that could be memory related.

i think its probably software related. hopefully they will have a fix with the next upgrade firmwire. it only happens once in a great while. i thought i had a defective unit but i guess its not just me.

I started getting the same issues with the up/down twitching and the line of bars on the left side of the screen. I didn't find this forum until today but already returned to Amazon for an exchange. New one should be here tomorrow. So was either of these really an issue seen with the Prime before and fixed by firmware update. BTW, never used the keyboard dock with mine.

you can always return it to asus 6 months later and get a new tablet if it is really messed up but i guess then you can't really root or put custom rom on it.

Of course. It would be nice to root it though. I was running the Nova Pro Launcher and ICS itself seemed fine enough.
I forgot to ask if anyone knows if ASUS is aware of the twitching and flickering issues and is working on a fix for it.

Just to add.. I saw this once on mine ... am on .26
got black lines on the sides and bar at bottom was moving .... widgets on home screen were doing the same thing
undocked and it stopped

I should probably mention that I don't even own a dock.

Had this too on my brand new 300 with 17. Rebooted, havent seen it since. (knock on wood)

did any of you utilize a "screenshare" or a "streaming" tool to your desktop?
i did utilize Asus's built in splashtop streaming software with my desktop prior to this happening. also utilized team viewer

i usually get this when i watch movies in my tf300, dont remember if its charging or not

[Q] which do you feels is better A500 or Asus Transformer

I have the A500 and its okay. I also have the Transformer arriving on the 13th. I would say that I'm 75% happy with the a 500. The main problems I have:
GPS doesn't work without wifi
At times it can be sluggish
Random unresponsiveness and I need to reset
Screen turns on while sleep
A lot of F/C with stock launcher and browser
Screen has got stuck between applications ex. Switching from launcher to browser I can see both and I need to press the back button to unfreeze it.
So I want some feedback from people that have experienced both tablets. Any advice would be appreciated.
I don't have experience with the transformer, but the things you point out as far as performance and lag I'd think are more honeycomb issues and will be present on both.
If ur GPS doesn't work without wifi, take it back for a new one. Its a pretty common flaw with some of them (bad batch I guess).

Also, I think the only reason for people keeping the Acer over the Asus is the USB. If you don't need the USB, than the Asus is the better option.

If this is the 2nd update, then yes I am noticing some lag. Especially when doing things like you mention which totally frustrates me 'cause it was these types of activities that got so much better with the 3.1 upgrade... at least for me. Smoother swipes between home screen, moving widgets and a few others... sigh
Oh well, just hoping 3.2 will fix these. Asus is getting it this week, please Acer keep up with the Jones on this stuff!
Mine got it a few days ago. During the 2nd reboot, it was stuck with the screen backlight on, but nothing showing up. I had to force it off, then back on. I did get the "update was successful" message after unlocking it. Since then, it seems to be a little slower, especially with screen draws. It still plays videos fine, but the more apps I have open, the slower it changes screens, for example.
I noticed mine was laggy after the update... I thought maybe I installed something that was eating up the CPU, but I think it was probably the update that did it.
It's not horrible, just annoying.
Me too I have been some FC with launcher in addition to the laggyness.

I've had some lagginess, but only after I installed several apps. Skype was one that kept running, so I uninstalled it. Not sure what happened, but I only noticed lag after a few days of running and installing several apps, so I'm having trouble pinning it down.
I just went and backed up my apps with TB and factory reset and restored my apps back and no more lag

Chrome/AndChat black screen issues

Anyone else having the issue of Chrome going completely black screen? YOu have to hit home and swipe the app away, then it will force close and you can re-open it. I've tried everything, wiping all data and caches, installing new ROMs, and it continues to have the same problem. When I open logcat, it shows me a bunch of errors along the lines of "OpenGLRenderer is out of memory!".
The same problem occurs on AndChat, only worse. On AndChat, I have to reboot the tablet to get it to open again. Force closing it doesn't fix it.
I also get problems running games for extended periods of time. Vendetta Online will just start crashing untili I reboot my tablet.
I've seen a few people with the Chrome problem, but is this issue really so small that no one else is having problems with it? If you have this problem, PLEASE post in this thread so I know I'm not alone and my TF isn't just ****ed up. I'm suspecting it is a memleak in the GPU driver, but it should effect more people than just a few of us...

I have exactly the same problem. I thought it was a bug that will get fixed later since it is still a beta.

I'm doubtful that it's a bug with Chrome. It only seems to affect Tegra ICS devices. The exact same issue ("OpenGLRenderer is out of memory!") occurs with other applications. I really think it is a problem with the Tegra ICS GPU driver. It also affects both Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 chipsets.
What revision is your TF? (the first three numbers/letters of your serial number)

I have the same issues with AndChat, my YouTube app also displays artifacting while opening menus since the ICS update.
This problem is fixed using the latest guevor's kernel (I'm running v19.2, along with Megatron). My tablet has been on for over 100 hours now with AndChat running the entire time.

Performance issues on new Tf300 running build. 26

I just received a brand new Tf300 a few days ago. It is the first tablet I have ever owned and don't know if the performance issues I am experiencing are actually common among other tablets. Whenever I quickly switch from one app to another, the device slows down and then I get a pop up message telling me to wait for the app or force close it. The problem gets worse when I am downloading stuff in the background. I have never had this problem before with any of the 4 android phones I have owned. Does anyone know if there is a solution to this?

Trying doing a cold boot. It also depends on what apps you are using, some might not be complete compatible. A lot of people are having problems with google chrome, also the stock browser is kind wonky. Suggest using Dolphin or Opera.
I havent seen the issue you mentioned personally yet on my TF300, however it has been mentioned a few times on other sites & reviews.
It seems to have something to do with the I/O communication to the memory while downloading/installing multiple things at once through Google Play. Its been said to have an impact on OS performace and that the "wait or FC" message is common. Just hit wait and it will be fine.
If its happening when you are idle...Id say something is running in the background you dont know about and using memory.

I did try a cold boot once and it sisnt so anything, really. I also never actually tried running the stock browser. Immediately after turning on the device, I downloaded Quick ICS Browser. Also, I'm not are if the browser is the main problem affecting the performance, as I seem to be having this issue even when downloading from the market or switching through apps.

I actually have been doing this, but honestly I don't think this is something we should have to do after paying $400 for a brand new tablet that I would assume would be in perfect working condition right out of the box :-/
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I have not had any problems switching from apps, even while updating several apps at once on the market. I guess since your Pad is practically brand new, just give it a a day or two of use and see if that helps settle down the system (with a couple of reboots in between). In worst case scenario, I would say exchange it for a new one.

Im not exactly sure that one would consider it a defect. I think its just an example with how the OS performance is affected while installing multiple apps at one time.
Id say you could avoid the problem by installing only a couple things at one time. I have an HTC phone and the same thing happens when I try to install from Google Play and tinker with other stuff at the same time.

You're probably right. Maybe it is the fact that most apps on the market are primarily made for Android phones, not android tablets. I will uninstall all apps and see if I can install one by one to see if I can find out which ones are the ones giving me problems.

I've been having exact same problems on prime (tf201) ... and on top of than random reboots, shut-offs, battery discharging, and non working gps (hardware problem)...
I came to a conclusion that asus sucks... here is why: i have two phones running ICS, and neither has this issues, and both are MUCH faster than prime / tf300 - so it is purely a bunch of software bugs, and asus had SO much time to fix them, and still people across the board have these same problems with transformers
long story short - i retuned prime, and was/am considering tf300... but it looks like i will pass..., although i really like the dock

I DONT Have those issues with my prime. not everyone has them across the board. while some do, slot don't. GPS works great with the dongle Asus sent out for free. alot of the reported issues on both prime and 300 have been reported by various other tablets and phones running ICS. doesn't matter if your two phones don't. its still widely documented ICS issues across the board on most devices running ICS. this is more of a Google issue THST needs addressing. Google is the one who created ICS. these problems are limited to only Asus tablets. just Google ICS issues and tons of hits will pop up across several different devices. Google is the one who needs to step it up and address this.
Asus is a manufacturing company. they make hardware, not software. they still try to do the best they can to solve software issues. Even Asus getting frustrated because they having to try to fix stuff THST Google should be addressing, software wise.
OK, I just had to come back after a week of using and tinkering with my TF300 and after having it factory reseted and doing a cold boot reset it now works FLAWLESSLY. I love this tablet and I have downloaded tons of games that look beautiful on it. The only thing I wish were present were a bigger selection of tablet-friendly apps on the market. I also wish Google would allow us to search apps that are designed for tablets only. I have tried using the Tablified Market app and it is just too slow in my opinion and it has no option to sort by most popular or highest rated.

Unresponsive/rebooting tab

Soo ever since friday my tab has been going wild..
Itll just randomly become unresponsive and then reboot.
It started once i hooked it up to charge on a ferry... which makes me worry. however, i do have chrome on it. I figured after it came out of beta itd be fine, and its run fairly well up until recently.
Im stock rooted, running latest ota. Locked boot loader... though I tried to unlock before, but since im a c4okct there was a time where my sn wasnt recorded, and that's when I attempted to unlock.
Now, im worried that my tab is possibly fried, and im stuck without warrenty.
Does anyone have any ideas either way?
Thank you in advance and sorry for the rambling, i just tried to cover all the bases.

Regret buying now, dull screen with horrible bleed, poor io performance, and reboots make it super unreliable.
