People are disappointed because SIII lacked killer feature like iPhone 4S's Siri. - Galaxy S III General

I see many people complain about SIII because its incremental upgrade like iPhone 4S. Instead of naming it S2S, it jump 1 numeral to S3. Thus by naming it as such, people are expecting some killer feature like the one in iPhone 4S SIRI.
What do you think? There's 1 thread talking about >30 improvement. But all this is not killer feature. Thus people are disappointed.

you are aware of the fact that the SGS3 has a voice recognition service very similar to Siri, its called S voice? Or did i somehow get you wrong?
I think the SGS3 is a big enough upgrade^^ The 4s is basically the same phone as the iphone4, only with a new cpu/camera and siri. But siri has nothing to do with a "new device", it could run on any device because its just a cloud based A.I. Its not depending on which device you have but the connection to your cloud server! It was a classic apple move to say no this service runs only on our "new" device, so give me your money again.
The SGS3 has a better screen resolution, bigger battery, much faster CPU, better camera, bigger screen, more memory, much improved software with many new features. And a completely new design, which i personally like way more than the SGSII. Curves are sexy. Thats true for women, guitars and smartphones.

And what "killer features" are we talking about?? Lol

I think you kind of need to put it in perspective. The leap from i9000 to i9100 was huge. Better camera, better display, more power, thinner, and lighter. Its features were firsts and there was no doubt about its position in the smartphone pecking order. At the same time, HTC launched the Sensation which, let's face it, was a half-ass effort compared to the SGS2 leaving Samsung alone at the top.
Based on that leap, people were expecting a similar leap from SGS2 to SGS3. It didn't help that Samsung and the online media kept leaking things like a 12MP camera and ceramic body. So there can be no denying the improvements over the SGS2, but things like the display, powerful processor, and camera don't overshadow competitor’s or even Samsung's own offerings the way the SGS2 did. And the design, which is subjective, is polarizing. At the same time HTC apparently learned its lesson and put forth a decent and competitive rival in the One X. It appearing first kind of dampened the “oooh!” of some of the SGS3's core features. Things like Direct Dial, S-Voice, and staying awake when you look at it have subjective value. How well they actually work will determine whether they're effective at differentiating the SGS3 from other high-end phones. Don't forget that Siri became a target and has been parodied everywhere from YouTube to SNL. So the value of "advanced features" is subjective and in the eye of the beholder.
In reality none of it matters. The SGS3 is going to become the "it" phone just like the SGS2. And once that happens people aren't even going to discuss the design and features, they’ll just want it.

The real problem IMO of Honeycomb/Xoom versus Ipad2

Coming from a Xoom owner and having played with the ipad 2 this weekend, I'll admit that Apple has just thought everything out much better than Motorola has.
In this, I don't blame Google...I love honeycomb and think its the better OS, but right now I can't recommend the Xoom to anyone I know unless they already know they want the Xoom (which are people like us).
You can just tell that Apple has thought a lot of things through...the design on the ip2 is amazing...it really does feel a lot nicer than my Xoom...its more balanced in one hand. The case, while IMO stupid, is also well thought out…the fact that they even thought of that was awesome...ive always been wondering when companies would design cases/covers that work WITH the item and looks fully integrated...the first ipad case was a pos, and the Motorola case is also ****. A lot of you will say the case is great yadda yadda, but get real, you can tell they put maybe 2 FTEs for like a week to design that thing. The way the magnets work on the iPad is great...a lot of third party case makers will probably use that to turn the iPad on/off.
The volume buttons on the Xoom are also incredibly frustrating to use...i have to actually use my fingernails to use them...again not a deal breaker since I deal with it, but still...not well thought out.
Again, I am not talking about the aps, which should catch up, but the hardware…and yea, I know “we aren’t the average consumer blah blah,” but I want the avg consumer to adopt honeycomb because they are the mass consumers that developers will flock to get. The avg consumer wants something that is pretty…really the iPad does make it feel “magical” whereas the Xoom is industrial.
Since people are focused on tablet centric aps, it is like the app stores are starting over again and the Xoom is somewhat like the G1. It took Android about 1-2 years to (IMO) catch up to Iphone’s apps (still some missing, but I’d generally say the phone apps are pretty much right up there with iOS)….so I am guessing it will take about that long for the tablet aps to catch up. In that time, maybe Honeycomb will get mass adoption…until then, I think iPad 2 is better for me too in the end. However, my nexus s will never go anywhere unless the iphone 5 fixes notifications and gives me SOME flexibility…doubtful.
It is incredibly frustrating for me because while I hate the walled-garden approach, being completely open without regulations has its qualms too…Right now neither OS is close to being perfect, but the iPad can do more now. Xoom has the potential to be amazing…I have 4 CNN widgets on one screen to get the latest news and its very pretty, but then I can’t watch Netflix in an airport? SOME devices will get Netflix…SOME devices will get Hulu…SOME devices will get mlb.tv support…three things I want to do a lot of while traveling….Sure Play On will fix a lot, but again, that is a work around. And while Playon has been great, its not perfect…nor free. Motorola has possibly forced me to leave Honeycomb.
Flash is dead…sorry, but Adobe has had a good amount of time now. I loaded flash 10.2 on my updated Xoom and while it is better, it’s not near a good user experience.
Ultimately, that is what Apple gets…it’s the user experience…not specs. Everything they have done, from banding, to hardware design, to software design, has been designed to make the user feel like they are really doing something COOL. Technology is such a black hole to some people, that the simple fact of “flicking a movie from an ipad to a TV” DOES seem magical to them…even though techies know that’s not a big deal.
Also, choices, while ultimately great, can lead to some pretty negative things…if I was an apple salesman, all I would have to say is “Fragmentation, your device may not be up to date in half a year,” which we all know is bull****, but to an avg consumer, that is one frightening sentence.
Flame Suit On.
I have both. I still like the Xoom better though.

I agree that the Apple ipad is a terrific device. the platform is about five years old now considering it is a large ipod touch/iphone and 2nd gen in its current form factor. In 18 months Android became the No. 1 smartphone OS and this is the first stab at a market Apple defined.
The screen ipad screen is better than the Xoom, the Apple ecosystem of getting media from itunes onto the tablet is idiot-proof, it certainly has the apps and it looks like video performance for movies and games is improved with the ipad2. For the average consumer (or maybe below average from our technical point of view) looking to play movies or listen to music, not caring about the encoding and wanting a plug and play experience, yes, this is a better solution than Android offers. Maybe Google Music will change that.
But that doesn't mean Xoom and Android are doomed. I couldn't care less about which platform is more popular. I guess I'm in the minority as I don't use it for games or movies. I wan't more than the ipad can give me. I want user expandable memory, multitasking, usb hosting, freedom to decide what programs make sense for me, rooting and the list goes on. I use mine to carry manuals and work information and as good as the ipad looks, for reading, characters look better on a Xoom. Maybe I want iboobs on my device, do I need Steve to tell me, no, it is inappropriate and I can't have it? At 47, I can have my wife tell me that. Steve doesn't tell me I don't want Flash!
I've use the Flash beta to watch Fox News TV it was flawless. That's probably the first and last time I'll use it as I didn't miss it with my ipad. How can it be dead when it is only available via a leaked beta?
It isn't an us or them situation. Think of it like a John and Paul relationship where there is some competition and some collaboration that makes a great overall experience. You may like Paul, I may like John but one without the other isn't nearly as good. ipad makes Android better and vice versa. Look at RIM, no reason for them to improve their user experience and now it looks like 2012 will be the year they're rolling out something "new".
Personally I'm waiting for HTC to design a Honeycomb tablet, they obviously know something about build quality and design that other manufactures do not. I don't care if that tablet is running HTC Sense, it will preform well and be beautiful.

Agree with you there. As a future tablet owner and android fan, I'm really having a hard time deciding on which tablet to pick. Every time I see a video of the xoom, the great browser and ui look, I'm sold. But then when Apple shows something like garageband, or other games/apps for the ipad, along with its "exterior", I'm sold for that aswell . This leaves me right in the middle, not a really good place to make a choice :/.
Apple just made a great move with its pricing, especially the 500 dollar model, which I believe is also there just to draw people to the store, where some decide to go for more memory. Here in Belgium, people won't choose something else over an iPad if the device isn't priced like atleast 50-100 euro cheaper, due to the "apple halo", which still exists here. I"m afraid a huge majority of people here falls into the "cartoony htc evo movie with the really annoying customer trying to buy an iphone 4 cuz it has the wifis"-category. There's also virtually no marketing for android (here). All of this leads to less sales => less developers.
Android is becoming a big hit on phones, but due to a lot of those being slow phones, game developers can't really bring their best, which is a little unforunate for people like me with SGS's.
Have the XOOM and the iPad 1. Went and played with the iPad 2 yesterday for quite a while. Nothing there to make me want to shed the XOOM or upgrade iPad 1, but agree with almost everything you say about a far more smoother user experience. That being said, I came home and read that the Samsumg Galaxy TAB 10.1 will come with a Super AMOLED display and that was all I needed to know to choose my next tablet. See below...

When has HTC ever, EVER been ahead in performance especially related to graphics? They stink at anything related to GPU or video acceleration.

I honestly don't believe that. They are the first people who have used the GTab 10.1 to say that, and according to Engadget its a TFT LCD just like the Xoom. However, they also go on to say in the video that it may be same panel used on the original Galaxy Tab. Which they were impressed with.

By preform well I meant "good enough", not ahead of anyone.
All this Google vs Apple bantering reminds me so much of the IBM/Microsoft vs Apple desktop OS war. How IBM built up the open architeture for their PCs vs Apple closed hardware system.
Not that whats going on is 100% like back then. Apple's gone cheaper(tablet wise) than its competition and I think thats a heavy blow dealt to the Android side. Android, however has something that Apple doesn't have, mass market appeal. HTC, Motorola, Samsung, Kyocera, Sony, Dell, Acer, LG, Toshiba, Viewsonic, Archos to name a few.
Kinda like the PC.
Polished turd
The Apple platform is supposed to be this well polished I had the first and second Iphone and I wouldn't go back again.
iOS sucks thats the reality!
end of story
oh and anyone waiting for HTC to save the day, looking at the flyer and the bloatware they call sense I think I will stay with the moto and xoom
Gtab doesn't have an amoled screen, heck they can't even provide super amoled+ for all of their SGS II. It also has a tegra 2 chip. Even if not, it would still "only" be super amoled, and believe me (I have an original SGS), text does not look good with the Pentile subpixel structure, even though the SGS has a PPI of like 230. Going down to 160 would be horrible for text.
Source: Engadget
HTC was quite disappointing this H1 of 2011, no leaps forward, and the flyer will probably end up like the Tab 1, unfortunately.
The problem with the android 3.0 tablets is that they are the ones that have to convince the consumer (seeing as they are more expensive/new to the market). The first thing the average consumer sees is that the xoom/whatever tablet is plasticy, relatively heavy and "fat", which is not really the best first impression.

Isn't the Xoom made out of aluminum? I haven't held one yet, but I'm assuming since you say this that it isn't obvious to tell?
I was talking more about android tablets in general, although I believe atleast a part of the back of the xoom is aluminium, but a part is "rubbery" if I'm correct. They don't have any of them here in Belgium so I wouldn't know for sure tbh.
thats my point though...I want Android/honeycomb to be popular so it gets more and more support....
It IS important whether you guys will admit it or not..Google isnt spending money to make techies happy...they want to make money, and the money is not here...its with the average joes...imo Honeycomb is NOT the problem...its the OEMs...one reason I was disappointed Nokia didn't hop on board because I think their hardware with Android could own Apple...
After having an ipad I will tell you the build on Xoom is actually as good and in some ways better

Deja vu for sure.
iOS and Android each have their strengths and weaknesses. The iPad2 and Xoom hardware each have strengths and weaknesses. Some people prefer the feel of a closed ecosystem behind a pay-to-play walled garden, others prefer on open ecosystem with a vibrant dev community.
You can compare specs (or have a pissing contest) all you want but in the end trying to convince people who's preference differs from your own to instead prefer the same product you prefer is a waste of time, energy and keystrokes. Your inability to change their minds does not mean your own preference is inferior. It just means different people have different preferences. Let them.
In the long run what this competition means is that we all get a bunch of awesome gadgets to choose from. So stop worrying that some people prefer different things than you do. Spend that time and energy enjoying your preferences instead.

HTC build quality far surpases motorola in my opinion. HTC phones ive owned and known have all been very reliable and beautifully well made. While sense isnt brilliant i still believe a HTC honeycomb tablet will be the one to have. It will look good and be well made. With far better customer services than motorola too.
I was lucky enough to get a nexus one. Stock android OS with a HTC phone. Its built brilliantly. That new samsung nexus s just looks abit flimsy to me.
What are you talking about ? iOS doesn't have a vibrant dev community? I think there's is larger than Android... You have to hack your Android to be completely "open" the same way some jb iOS. Same difference

A small iPhone 4S vs Galaxy Note comparison

ANTI-FANBOY DISCLAIMER:
I am aware that I am on a forum full of people that are geared towards a single OS (Android) and who are more likely than not very biased about which is "better" and which "sucks". I am aware that many are not platform agnostic and have not learned to be objective about different ecosystems. Thus, I am anticipating the possibility of anti-apple comments. Oh well.
Anyways, I just wanted to create this side note to say that I'm platform agnostic for everything and have just about every major commercial platform (Windows/Mac, Android/iOS, Wii/PS3/360). So when I do this comparison I am naturally doing it without fanboyism, although my bias does seep through as I naturally have different preferences than others (just a fact of life, different people like different things). However, I try to be as objective as possible.
Hey all,
I'm sitting here with my black Galaxy Note 16GB and white iPhone 4S 64GB and have been thinking about the two a lot lately, mainly comparing them and considering which I should go with. So here's a comparison:
iPhone 4S
TLDR: The thing "just works" with zero hassle, low time requirements to get what you need done, and pretty much everything that you want software-wise is more than satisfied.
Superior:
- Better UI interface (more intuitive, logically laid out, refined, etc) for pretty much every part of the phone
- A little more smooth in terms of performance
- Does multitasking MUCH better and it is easier to use multitasking. Its quite usual to have about 10 to 15 apps going in the background and being able to comfortably switch between them. That's simply not possible on the Note on 2.3.6 (stock firmware) or is much more difficult to do thanks to the multitasking switching method (recent apps window) and the large RAM/CPU demand of many android apps.
- Cloud sync, if you have a mac, is absolutely wonderful and works better than expected. It just works. No hassle, minimal (almost zero) setup and maintenance time.
- The sound quality on the 4S is MUCH better.
- App store is fantastic, has better apps than the Android. This can't be emphasized enough as there are numerous apps on iPhone that simply have no equivalent in terms of quality. For me, the major ones are the office suite (Keynote, Pages, Numbers) as well as a class manager app called iStudiez. I've tried the equivalents on Android and I have found them to be not up to the quality where I would be willing to use them (bad aesthetics, lacking functionality, doesn't "just work with zero hassle")
- I have zero worries about viruses, malware, etc on my iPhone
- if you know other people with iDevices running iOS 5, then FaceTime/iMessage is great.
- I like that the iPhone uses white for a lot of the background colour. The black backgrounds for the settings, messages, etc on the Note really depresses me and makes the screen seem small.
- Camera is better, and it has better anti-shaky-cam functionality. 1080p video works great and the phone handles it wonderfully. I am able to record lectures in class perfectly.
Inferior:
- The hardware is just not as good as the Note. Screen is claustrophobic/postage-stamp-size and hampers full use of the best apps (Pages, Keynote, Numbers).
- The OS and apps don't take advantage of the resolution. It might as well have a 320 x 480 resolution.
- Some people may not like that its not very customizable. I don't mind it because the stock experience is pretty much perfect. I don't HAVE to change anything. On the other hand, I don't GET to.
Galaxy Note
TLDR: Great, but not as good as the 4S in terms of software (which cripples the phone). But, this will be fixed in time and I doubt even the iPhone 5 will be able to beat the Note once the software becomes even close to being on par.
Superior:
- Hardware is wonderful. The screen allows me to use the phone in a much more advanced, useful way - especially for browsing the web. I have been reading my etextbooks on my Galaxy Note quite regularly and prefer reading off of it rather than my actual physical textbooks. That really goes to show that the Note has an amazing screen because I don't want to read my etextbooks off anything else - and I have some amazing displays at my disposal: a 17" macbook pro screen, a 17" alienware R2 RGBLED screen (best screen ever made IMO), a 27" Thunderbolt display, etc.
- S-Pen is pretty useful just with the stock apps, and I can't wait until iAnnotate comes out along with other apps.
- The OS allows me to customize it more. I don't really like this as I have a tendency to waste my time looking for good upgrades for it, but some people might.
Inferior:
- App store has very few Apps on par with the iPhone editions of them. There are some good ones but generally the quality is lower than the iPhone app store. This is the biggest con. I can't express how much this affects my use of the phone. I can't use the phone for office capabilities because polaris is glitchy, looks bad, and isn't optimized for the screen size, and there is no alternative to iStudiez that is on par with it (already tried class buddy, it's quality is not high enough to be useful to me).
- Stock experience of Android is good but is showing its age compared to the iPhone. ICS should fix this but it won't fix the lack of great apps.
- Camera is not as good, and I can't seem to take 1080p videos over a certain file size. I can't record lectures with it due to the file size thing.
- Viruses on android. My mom got her email hacked because of some stupid malware app (she has a Note and 4S too, but sold her Note because of the security vulnerability and her bad experience with getting hacked).
This review is kinda short but I don't have much free time lately as I am very busy.
The major let down for me was the app store for android. If it was on par with the iPhone app store then I would use the Note over the iPhone even though iOS is superior to Gingerbread. Though this shouldn't be around forever (I give it about two or three years before they are on par), but its crippling the phone for me.
So, what I've ended up doing is using both phones. I use the Note for internet, and the iPhone for everything else. I await the day when I can dump the iPhone as i prefer the hardware of the Note. My prediction is that ICS and its stylus support will encourage more devs onto the platform and will result in better apps, but to what degree I'm not sure. Even if it doesn't immediately result in more good apps coming out, I'm sure that within two or three years the iPhone app market will be saturated enough to persuade developers that they will get more money from Android.
EDIT: I figured out a while ago what the solution is: Buy the Galaxy Note and an iPod Touch and tether the two with wifi while on the go. It gives the best of both worlds for not all that much money (especially if you get a used iPod touch). You get the App store on the iPod touch and the hardware of the Note.
- Liquid
Does multitasking MUCH better and it is easier to use multitasking. Its quite usual to have about 10 to 15 apps going in the background and being able to comfortably switch between them. You really don't understand how Android multi-tasking works, do you? Or how it works on iOS, for that matter.
Im not going to bother reading it but I can tell by the longer list of "superior" items under the iphone that android is not for you. Dont want to make this a vs thread but you have no idea what your talking about. You and mom(viruses) should give up android.
Theres a reason I wont allow my wife or mom to purchase a android device. My wife uses a iphone4 and ipad2 daily. Theres absolutely nothing a iphone does better than sgs, sgs2 or note.
Funny thing is family and friends go crazy over all my android devices. With everything they can do. Christmas day, with all my friends over, watching movies/games thru mhl, and the million other things that entertained us. Bought my wife the ipad 2 for christmas and after a weeks time, the only thing that was even fun was the camera mirror photo booth app.
Out of the box android is superior to iphone. Jail-broken iphone only tries to mimic android. Funny thing is my winmo 6 devices were superior to android/iphone years ago.
and android doesnt have a app store lol.
1. 4S is can NOT be jailbroken, the devs are not even close to a solution.
2. Siri, is a gimmick and send all the voice data to apple for processing, this in turn increases your data usage.
3. The visible hardware is unchanged from iPhone4 and Androids have moved ages ahead.
4. iPhone4S has some Simcard issues. Loss of network is the result.
5. The iPhone UI is unchanged since the first 2G. Thats a lot of years of using the same UI. Most people didn't upgrade to 4S from 4 (including me) as the external form factor and the UI was the same. I just couldn't justify spending a bomb on a new fone that looks exactly the same and has the same interface.
6. Theme support? You can not put winterboard or dreamboard ,if you are not jailbroken.
7. iMessage although a nice concept has its own issues. It doesnt come close to Whatsapp or Blackberry Messenger.
The positive things about an iphone is the the resale value due to the novelty value is good and the Accessories that are available. Like the Indash DVD unit of my car syncs to ipod/iphone the Kicker music dock syncs to iphone/ipod etc.
Apple with iPhone 5 will really have to come up with something radical to catch up with the droids i believe.
Edit : How could i forget iPhone are marred by the fact that iTunes exists.
PS. I'm not a Droid fanboy, i used to be a apple fanboy.

It might be right, that LiquidNitrogen have no idea about dalvik, JVME or JIT-Compiling. What he does is: He is sharing his experience with both devices and the point is, that LiquidNitrogen loves the "no hassle" thing and uses the devices stock - like thousands of people do!
His arguments are only subjective and not scientificaly prooved and thats what apple is turning in to their business: they create products with zero-hassle-experience! Even my Mom could use an Iphone, and she allready has problems using a TV Remote
For me, i like hassle. I want to customize the look of my device and utilize it for doing what i want to, since WinMo 5.0... Android is just perfect for me.
I allways used big screen devices like HTC Universal, Dell Streak, etc.
I cannot understand how apple can sell a poststamp-sized-screen-phone for 700 bucks.... and: i would never buy this device since iTunes is an "must-have" thing. I hate iTunes, there is nothing worse than iTunes. my sister calls me once a week: "i just downloaded a video in .flv format, how can i make iTunes sync this with my iphohe?" you guys know what i mean ;-)
I don't have an iphone, but I thought your post was pretty objective.
Of course, this being the internet, you'll get flamed no matter what you do.
Some things I'd comment on:

Software is always personal choice. I think as long as you have facebook, twitter, and angry birds, you satisfy 95% of the general public. That's a slight exaggeration, but not by much actually.

I assume you mean fonts/buttons are still large - this is a result of the small screen. Even on the note, some tablet apps are just too painful to use. The text is just too small.

This post made me laugh. The iPhone having better multitasking? Really? No. the iPhone freezes your app that's "open" and there is no "multi tasking" it's monotasking with an icon to reopen where you were.
Cloud sync? Really? I haven't had to backup my contacts in years. Nor my calendar. I have sugarsync and dropbox, mostly sugarsync since I have a paid account with them, for my desktop. I also use it on my phone. It automatically backs up pictures and videos and any folders I want every day on my terms: wifi, plugged in. I don't see "cloud sync" as a pro for iOS. Especially not since it JUST came out. I've been syncing since my blackberry days to Google Contacts and Calendar.
Data usage on the iPhone is also a lot higher. Your email app for example loads emails AGAIN and AGAIN every time you open the email you want to see! Great way to lose data on silly things.
I used an iPhone 4 for almost a year, (that's a long time for me, check my signature), and I liked it but I got SOOO bored :
Tiny screen (not small, TINY...)
UI was so outdated, even though smooth. I'd prefer functional over esthetics. On my Notes desktop I have widgets for everything I need, and direct shortcuts to everything else. In 2 clicks I have wifi, gps, volume, etc. Access to a ton of features. Turning on / off wifi on the iphone is a pain. I'd imagine they did it on purpose as to be too much of a pain to turn it on and then you'd just use your data connection, use more data, and get carriers more money (back to the constant reloading of data)
Games were fun! But they were on such a small screen that text was almost illegible.
Multitasking took FOREVER. Many times I would want to reload an app, and since it wasn't made for saved-state, it would reload! And then there's the whole RELOADING of the app entirely if your ram ran out and your phone decided to recycle it completely while still showing that it's running.
Regardless, I DO agree that the iPhone just works. I also find that they made a huge profit margin on the same product (iphone 4 --> 4s) due to the same frame, screen, memory, buttons, etc.
That's a huge waste for us. Don't people want innovation? Choices? Apple gives you 1 iphone a year, with the same form factor, and the ONLY thing you can choose is memory and color. What if you could only get a car in 2 colors, and if it's a v6 or v8? Everyone would hate that. I think apple limits technology. I do believe Apple does do some things right though: user experience. Just because I love to tinker doesn't mean others do. Cameras, they have fantastic cameras in their phones. And that's about my limit. Ohh... and hyping a device They're good at that, too. haha.
These are my personal opinions. My mom uses a motorola flipout because it's got a physical keyboard. She likes her memory games and simple things that a crappy device gives her. She doesn't need a 600 euro phone (iPhone) that doesn't do anything better than her current 120 euro (unlocked) flipout that I got her 8 months ago, especially for her. Apple doesn't give her the choice for devices. Android devices do: they come in all shapes, prices, sizes and colors.
The OP was very respectful and quite accurate in his shared ideas.
At least as for the sound quality goes the iPhone headphone out trumps the Note one in terms of resolution and soundstage (Easily audible thru my Westone UM3x).
And that's a fact. As the lack of a clean line out is another fact. For music iPhone is still the king however you look at it.
For reading and browisng the Note trumps the iPhone. Obviously.
In the end the OP prefers the Note because of the screen. I don't see any fanboysm on him.
His view on the Android app market is spot on. Android fragmentation prevents apps to reach the quality level that they feature on iOS. It seems that ICS will fight that fragmentation.
IMO, in simplest terms, the iPhone and Note just caters to different people with different tastes.
In terms of library, iOS has a more robust environment compared to Android. And the fact that iOS apps simply "just works" is one feature that people would pay, rather than getting into a hassle.
Convenience has always been the market of choice for Apple, and it delivers.
And no, i do not own an iPhone, but my cousin has one, and i mostly assist when she needs to access the iOS market, so i have an idea of how robust this is.
Granted, the note works "out of the box", but the name of the game is customization, and android delivers. Especially when you decide to "root", and you just have a device, free from restrictions, and capable of becoming anything you want it to (granted, it is within the possibility).
I enjoy tinkering my note. Encountered plethoras of problems, and have grown wiser from it. Learned the capabilities and limitations of my device, and keep pushing it to its limits and beyond.
The note is a modders' dream come true.
I agree that iPhone is easier to use. I also agree that the Note is more superior compared to it. What i don't agree with, is labeling iPhone is superior/inferior to Note, because, based on how you use it, it always boils down to personal preference.
I am not fond of countering arguments, because in the simplest terms, they are just opinions. And opinions basically goes two ways. It's either you agree with it, or you disagree with it, and provide a counter argument.
Any device without a back button = FAIL

luv the note but !!!
feel embarassed to use the iphone headset wid it coz the one which came wid the note suckss .rest note is a beast.
Fair comparison, I don't and wont use apple myself but when some friends of mine that are totally clueless about tech stuff ask me what to get. I tell them to get an apple, they work as are and don't need any customization simply because it doesn't let you.
A more techy person will prefer android as its much more open and to get the best out of it you need to get down and dirty a little. Apple is simple and fairly idiot proof thats why the Idiots prefer them only joking lol.
I love the title a small iphone 4s vs NOTE
I have not read your post either since this kind of opinions has become too boring.
But will instead give you one piece of advice:
Whoever bought theGNote is unlikely to go back to IPhone, that's why this kind of comparison are useless. Just an hour ago went to meet a client, he was with a group of friends first thing he does seeing me: Hey Jack is that Samsung of yours with you?
-sure
They compare it with their IPhones, they want to watch a movie, just yesterday downloaded Paul with HD quality, their eyes pop up!!
Is this also a phone? One of them asks, -yes.
They want to see the camera, they are impressed after seeing the Spen.
-how much you said you paid for it?.
And no I don't work for Samsung, you don't have to since people have eyes to see. They want F#####g CHOICES, not just one form factor, telling you either take it or take it. !!

+1. I chose to buy my Note over an iPhone for such reasons. Though I'm ever more concerned of wowing myself than other people.
But I do have to agree to one point in the review: Android market needs a little more apps, more specifically - games! But I'm pretty sure it'll catch up in no time so no pressure. On the productivity side, what we have now is more than good enough.
App selection aside, the iPhone is just like an Android phone that doesn't let you change mostly anything. (which is also in the review ) It starts of great but stays there. Androids can potentially start crappy, but if you know what you're doing you can make it better like, ten to hundredfold.
This thread is troll bait if I ever saw it...Must not reply...must not reply...lol

1. 4S is can NOT be jailbroken, the devs are not even close to a solution.

This.
Also, I do know the basics of how multi-tasking works on iOS vs Android, but not enough to make comments about it so I didn't. I based the multi-tasking comment on how the average non-techie person would interpret the phone. I get 6 apps in Android's "recent apps" list and I get as many as I want in iOS's multi-tasking 'tray'/'bar'. Also, I didn't make a comment about apps being frozen by iOS simply because of this question: Do I notice it? The answer is no. I rarely, if ever, notice that my apps are being frozen. And when I do, I don't care. On Android, I DO notice that I can't pull up more than six apps easily. I also notice that I can't play youtube and other videos in the background on the Note, which annoys me to no end. This will be fixed in ICS though, if I remember correctly.
As for the back button thing, yes it certainly is a pro for Android. On the downside, it doesn't always perform correctly. I anticipate this being solved in ICS though. Gingerbread, to me, feels full of 'beginner/basic mistakes' that will be probably solved in ICS. I didn't mention most of them because of that.
Also, I am aware that my comparison is very top heavy in terms of more stuff written about iPhone then the Note, but I just ran out of steam by the end of my article.
As for rooting/jailbreaking, I didn't include either as I don't have experience with either, and I also didn't include it as the average person does not know how to do that nor will end up doing it if given the option: either because they don't want to, don't have the time to, don't have the knowledge/techie-skills to, etc. I tried to base my article around what the average user might experience than the advanced stuff.
On a side note, I've noticed a lot of flamey/poorly-written comments. Oh well. I expected it, even though I don't root for one device or the other. Please take note of how I didn't say "The iPhone is better" or "The Note is better" but rather just listed features where one felt superior/inferior to the other. Basically a pro's/con's list. I did this because, objectively speaking, neither is better or worse than the other.
Also I didn't even mention Siri, but from some comments here some people think that I did - which is an obvious tipoff that a lot of people are commenting without reading. Anyways, perhaps I should have mentioned Siri, but I didn't. Why? I never really use it. Same with the voice functionality on the Note. If I did, however, have to choose one or the other, I would definitely choose Siri - just because of the way its setup and the things I can do with it. Whenever I have used siri it is when I have the phone in my pocket and don't feel like answering a text or otherwise pulling the phone out, so I long-press on the button on my headphones and just tell Siri what I want. She gets it right most of the time.
I also didn't mention that the iPhone has a superior physical design. The metal and glass design looks amazing. I didn't mention it, however, because I always have it in a case, so I hardly see it. It also makes it very heavy. The Note feels kind of cheap if I had to comment about it, at least in comparison to the iPhone, but its part of the reason why its light so its forgivable, and I never really notice the quality difference between the 4S and the Note.
Also, BIG DIFFERENCE between the Note and the 4S that I didn't think to write: the 4S is very scratch resistant and the screen just feels more durable. My Note's screen gets scratched very easily and the glass on it feels much less durable.
Another difference is that the volume rocker and the power button on the Note are right where I always want to grab it to pull it out of my pocket or a case or whatever. I often always pretty the power button by accident while holding the phone. It's very annoying. However, I realize that they did it that way because the top of the phone is too far to reach with the hand that is holding the phone. If I was given the choice, though, I wouldn't change the power button and volume rocker configuration - but it is annoying. Also, I usually don't have that problem with the iPhone and if I do it is just the volume buttons I end up pressing.
Also, another interesting social aspect of the Note vs iPhone: When I got my iPhone, my friends with Android phones flamed me to no end (and still flame me to this day). However, when I got the Note, my friends with iPhones didn't make a single negative comment and complimented me on it. This may be unique to my situation but it's just another difference I noticed.
What's also interesting is that the S-Pen on my Note is much more sensitive and better to use than the one on my parents Note. Both were stock and running the same firmware, and came from the same source and carrier (and probably batch).

Used SGS, SGS II, now using SGN - never faced any problem.
Two things I liked about the white iPhone 4 and the Black iPhone 4S I had was they had very good resell value and a really pretty girl wanted to see my white iPhone and we had coffee together.

"Advantages of the S3 over the One X (international version):
Better SoC, also quad core but the HK-MG technology means significantly battery saving Vs NVIDIAs solution
Better GPU
Better battery capacity
Battery removable
Micro SD slot with exFAT compatibility
Likely much better sound quality given Wolfson DAC (I have the One X now and it's sound is passable, not a patch on the S1 I used to own)
Better GPS with GLONASS
Much better video capture (stills quality still unknown, but GSMarena preview makes me tend to think the S3 will best the One X there)
It hardly boils down to design and TW Vs Sense (S3 loses on both counts, but since most here won't use the stock launcher regardless the second point counts for a lot less than it will for the general consumer)."

Design and TW vs Sense are both subjective. Some will find the S3 design and TW more to their liking
HOX
- unibody build, nice design, feels great in the hand and very premium.
- companion core is amazing for standby time
- screen is one of the best if not IPS displays I've used, great all around
- better battery life if web browsing due to LCD
- camera hardware is good
- software in general isn't the best yet, falls behind Samsung by a good margin as usual
- some quality control issues being sorted out especially with displays
- tegra zone if ur into that
Both
- Quad-core is overkill, newer architecture would be best. Was hoping for the dual-core Exynos based off 28nm to be in SGS3. S4 Krait looks like the way to go for now in terms of performance and battery savings.
SGS3
- exynos 4 is faster as well as gpu
- software hardware integration is one of the best
- samoled hd has best blacks and vivid though oversatturated colors, Samsung tweaked it better supposedly
- pentile is still a bit noticeable, not a dealbreaker
- still using plastic and definitely feels "cheaper"
- sd support, removable bigger battery
- IMO the design is ugly, especially the back. The white color looks okay.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Both phones are much more comparable than Sgs2 and sensation. They trade blows and comes down to what you want.

Should we add comparisons to the Evo 4G LTE in this thread? because that phone will be much closer to the GS3 US release - both will have the same cpu, same size battery and sdcard, so the only difference will be the screen, software and chassis - and even the chassis is probably going to be different.

Posted this in a different S3 vs HOX thread, I'll just drop it off here
I honestly don't think the HTC phones in general look that cool. Maybe it's just me, but none of them really stand out to me, they all seem weird :/ I think people just think they're nice looking, because that's what they're told and that's what everyone's lead to believe by the company. If you've never seen a smartphone in your life and someone handed you the one X and the S3, I think people would probably think the S3 is a nicer looking phone. I mean, everyone seems to think the iPhone 4s is the nicest looking thing out there, but it's not. My initial reaction when I very first saw it was 'That thing is ugly'. It's going backwards, phones should be getting softer corners, everything lately has been rounded. The 4S has some weird boxy shape to it, yet after a week or so the general consensus is that it's the best looking phone out there. Why? Because it's an iPhone. I think the same goes for HTC, I've seen their production video for the HOX, I'm aware of the work they put into designing it, and I appreciate that. But personally, I really don't think it's a great looking phone, it's weird. Especially when phones have a white back and a black front, it doesn't look professional to me. It looks as if the company got cheap and decided to switch out the plastic on the back instead of making an entirely new phone; again, my reaction when I saw the dnifferent Razr color variants that all still had a black front, I was like 'That looks stupid?'. I really just think that the S3 is a better looking phone. And in general HTC has too many bugs with their products on ship, both hardware and software wise, I think everyone can agree on that. But even disregarding that, I really don't like Sense either. it's snazzy looking sure, but it's a memory hog and HTC phones are notoriously slow because of it. Not to mention development is difficult. I've never understood the hate for TouchWiz, it might not look as nice as some other launchers and Android UI variations out there, but it sure as hell offers the best performance. I've never used a phone as smooth as the S1 and the S2, ever. In fact they run smoother than the Galaxy does ICS, and I'm speaking from experience and many other sources. That's what rooting is for though, just install a theme and keep the speed plus that comes with TW.
Maybe other people agree with me, maybe they don't. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, and that's fine. And someone might get really worked up over this post because they disagree with everything I'm saying. But that's my opinion, feel free to discuss

GSMarena is way more accurate in terms of battery comparison.
I get around 4 hour using my HTC One X browsing with around 10% juice left. So its pretty accurate.

I remember getting a similar answer from you in a different thread, it's just weird to see you being so active on a forum for a phone that you see as inferior, or at least not to your liking... I didn't mean to be a jerk back then but some of your phrasing really sounds like you are making yourself feel better over your purchase. For example: "exynos 4 is faster as well as gpu, but not a humongous difference, nothing noticeable both are more than fast enough for anything out" Why explain? it's faster period. Even the dual core of the S2 is more than enough for pretty much everything on the market so why do you have to downplay it by adding stuff like that?
Both phones are great and have their pros and cons we all know that but right now, the still unoptimized S3 which is not even yet released wins most if not all "hands on" reviews. So it is almost certainly the better phone. The screen is a matter of taste. I prefer AMOLED and I'm saying that as an intermediate photographer... I have my dedicated equipment for "natural" colours and such and I see no use for it on a phone and multimedia device. As far as multimedia goes it looks FAR better on an AMOLED screen for the blacks alone. Not to mention it has a far superior battery life when it comes to that.
HTC seems to aim at the hip, young and "cool" audience where as the galaxy series seems to aim more at the matured audience IMO. Beats audio by "Dr. Dre" and Sense as an indication for that... I can't stand the looks of sense and while TouchWiz will not win any beauty contest it still looks more grown up to me, especially those small changes they did in the app drawer etc.

Your comment is kind of hard to read, but I'd have to say I'd be surprised if 8-9 out of 10 people didn't prefer the hox design. Not only the general shape, but the feel, the way front facing camera and sensors are integrated into a nice looking design etc. I really can't see why samsung made the sgs3 look so messy, particularly with placement of flash, sensors etc.
Sense is a memory hog, but it looks good, with nice widgets etc, is user friendly, and htc have listened to feedback by slimming it down.
As you say, for most people on here the phone will be rooted and sense/TouchWiz isn't an issue.....although I do like being able to choose between sense/de-sensed/miui/vanilla android/CM9 ROMs.

As long as you don't try to make your personal opinion out to be what everyone else should be thinking and imply that they're somehow not quite right in the head for disagreeing with you, have at it. Your opinion's no more valid or invalid than anyone else’s.
LCD vs. AMOLED, PenTile vs. non-PenTile, design, feel, and build materials are all subjective and therefore can't be right or wrong. Things like fixed storage and non-replaceable batteries aren't debatable. However whether they're important to everyone equally is.
There’s “right” and then there’s “general consensus.” From the amount of commentary regarding the SGS3’s design both here and in the press the general consensus is that it’s not universally appealing. Even the GSMArena review which has now become the penultimate validation of the SGS3's supremacy commented on it. Personally, I’m getting a SGS3 in spite of its looks; not because of them.

tests are always a point in time capture of things and it is imho just right to compare both devices with stock configuration. you could always argue "but if i do this and that my device is faster/better" but that is not the point.
if you tell someone who wants to decide between a volkswagen golf and a honda civic that the volkswagen golf is faster, just because you have the GTI version or did something to the engine to make it faster will not really help the guy trying to compare the two cars. of course you could apply an update for the htc one x and than gain an advantage, but now samsung users could say "but if you install the latest samsung rom you again get better results" and so on. there are many many many devices that never see an update at all, because their owners are either afraid of OTA-messages telling them to update or they simply do not install the manufacturer update software on their PC. to get back to the car analogy, if you tell the guy to get a volkswagen golf, because it's faster and the guy does it and ends up being disappointed with slower car because he thought it was faster as is and not with tweaks/tuning you are to blame.
i could again argue that my galaxy s II is faster than the htc one x because i get higher scores in some due to the uber-cool minimalistic rom i installed. should i tell anybody now to buy the galaxy s2 because its better than the htc one x ?
it is remarkable how much time htc one-x users spend here in a "foreign" forum to flame against the samsung galaxy s3. seriously, if i had a htc one x i would by happy with it and if i am content with the situation i enjoy it and feel no need to visit forums of other devices to tell them that my device is superior.
this really looks like a case of cognitive dissonance where you try to construct a "version" of reality where the purchase of the htc one x against waiting for the galaxy s3 makes sense.

Why do you get so upset and feel that he's regretting his buy? It looks to me that he's pointing out his opinion quite respectfully. Ugly isn't how i'd describe it but to me it looks plain, it looks like a samsung, but i'll still buy it. The thread title will lure one x owners here, can you not see that? I hope the sgs3 lives up to your expectations and has no launch issues as yourself and the other members that struggle to deal with differing opinions will struggle to deal with the sniggers from the one x owners.
The sgs3 forum is the place to be if you want a comparison thread between one x and sgs3, its almost as if some people are trying to justify choosing the samsung after it failed to live up to hype by bashing the one x.
For American Variants on Sprint:
HTC EVO 4G LTE:
-Dedicated Camera Button
-Kickstand
-Available in your hands May 18th
SGS3 - Sprint Variant(Assumptions):
-+100mAH battery size
-Removable battery
Tossup:
Screen size
Screen tech (Pentile vs LCD)
Sense vs TW
Build Quality (HTC One X > SGS3, but EVO varies from it for better or for worse)
Sound Quality (If the DaC is based on the SoC, should be very similar)
Processor
GPU
And release date of GS3 in the US is unknown - it could be delayed months. Also there is a good chance the phone we get won't have a physical home button (at least with Sprint).

It is no coincidence that that noise in all the other images remain. The noise is only more evident in these comparisons. Scroll all along the pictures to see what I'm talking about.
Taking pictures of my dogs with my HOX I can actually notice a noise on them, and zooming in it is more evident.
Look around the brown, you see a noise.

how a symmetric order of flash, camera lense, loudspeaker grill is perceived as "messy" can only be explained by the math teacher that probably gave you low grades in geometry.
in general i like very much that samsung did take a further step with touchwiz to improve the user experience in a way that will omit the need to root the phone for user interface tweaks. just think of how they integrated what jkay added with the scrollable notification bar shortcuts... very nice i gotta say

Samsung Galaxy S III VS iPhone 4S - Phone Arena

Check this iPhone 4S vs SGS3

Pretty nice
SGS3 smokes the iPhone.
But I found it almost painful to watch, how this apple fanboy tries to find a positive aspect for his love.
It was nice to see how he destroyed the myth of easier use, when he showed the music player, or how you get movies on your device (pocket cinema)
Why not compare it with next iWhatever to be fare ?
We are basically comparing everything with iPhone4s and that itself says all ..
Strictly not apple or android fanboy as both have its own set of advantages and disadvantages
Sent from Galaxy Ace which just landed on "MOON"
"There shouldn't be any doubt that the iPhone 4S is the better-designed handset." I agree with that, although I know I should keep my mouth shut until I have actually held the SGS3 in my hands. But I do feel that the iPhone sports a well thought-out design, and it does feel premium, although it's kinda heavy for being a 3.5" device, no?
"Apart from its multimedia superiority, the Galaxy S III is also the better phone if you love tinkering with the software of your mobile device." Exactly. I have enjoyed my time with the iPhone, I really have, but it's getting boring now. I've had it for a year and now I want to tinker. I want to mod. I want to change icons and I want to flash kernels. I want to try out experimental ROMs that cause bootloops. I want that kind of fun back! I love the way you can truly personalize an Android device. I miss that and I want that back.
Winterboard, you say? Oh yay, I can choose from 2,000 ugly themes to apply, and they'll all make my phone slower and less responsive? GTFO...
Really though, what's so wrong with Ray S? I think the last two paragraphs in this review really say it all and I agree with what he writes 100%
The iPhone doesn't suck! It's a really good phone if you want that simplicity! Ray doesn't suck either! He awards points to BOTH phones and I think he did a good job with this.
The review was a total joke, since he deliberately didn't mention many advantages of the GS3.
Design - 'iPhone has more premium feel', but of course he didn't say how much more durable plastic is and how fragile iPhone is.
Keyboards - of course he didn't mention that Galaxy phones come with Swype, or that you can install a number of 3rd party keyboards compared to no choice on iOS.
I could go on but it was not a very fair review at all.
S2 and the Note beat IPhone 4s. S3 is way too better.

That's the point. He's comparing it to a, frankly, outdated phone and still spinning it to prop them both up equally.
The 4S, after all, was really an incremental update from the year before; I don't think a comparison even deserves to be made (the only reason it even comes up is because the 4S is Apple, oh my).
Unfortunately, it's just not feasible to compare it to the next iPhone, for obvious reasons.
Android phones have set certain standards in the last year, that a new iphone has to match or they won't have a chance IMHo. Really interested to see what they do about the screen size and how they will handle he resolution dilemma.
The iPhone is beginning to look and feel really old by now.
Phone Arena has a bias toward iPhone, as seen in their S3 review, we have gone over this in the previous thread. I think to compare an iPhone to Android by itself is a stupid concept. I mean if you were to give me an iPhone 4S right now, what would I do with it? I can do more thing and have more fun with a used $120 Galaxy S variant, no exaggeration.

Issue i have with his every review is more of an opinion piece instead of an objective review. He has tendencies to amplify negatives that can be seen as positive things on non-apple devices.
also the conclusion that everyone who fits the criteria below to get an iphone? If he said things like ecosystem, itunes, etc then yeah i can see it but generalized conclusion that fits both device doesn't.

Well, you guessed it you'll be better off with the iPhone 4S, as it's designed just for you, buddy.

My response from the other thread
Samsung Galaxy S2 is better than iPhone 4S. But my favourite feature on iPhone 4S is Siri. But I still like the iPhone, after comparing them also.

Has the SGS4 announcement swayed your buying decision?

I've just watched the stream of the sgs4 presentation and I'm glad to say I'm sticking with my HTC One pre order. For an sgs3 owner like myself there seems to be no incentive to upgrade. The new gimmicks will be available on google play in some other guise anyway.
Worth keeping in mind though that the price of the HTC One may drop when the sgs4 is released at the end of April. If you're not in a mad rush to get the One you might be better off waiting 6 weeks and get a better deal when the two devices really go to war in the shops.
Are you swaying or stick with the One?
This thread is not intended to be a comparison discussion.
Still getting the One...but then I always like backing the underdog
I'm going to be sticking with HTC and get a One time it comes out. I'll be buying it off contract so the price isn't going to go down much even with the S4 comes out.
The One to me is the better looking phone with the better looking UI. All the other features the S4 has are pretty gimmicky (right down to the way they were presented). I used to have a Galaxy S2 which I loved, but since then Samsung hasn't won me back.
Yes it has. It's made me want the HTC One even more.

^^^^^ this!!!, though i do think the s4 looks good and has good features albeit very gimmicky ones and ones I doubt most owners would need or use but the One is superior imo in everything i need it for.
Yes it did, it locked me 100% on the One.
S4 looks nice but it's just like the last 5-6 Samsung phones I had, and I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, I am just bored of it and looking for something new and more elegant.
The only way I would purchase the S4 over the One is if HTC really blows the release and the S4 is available to me before the One, but I hope I don't have to make that call. Unfortunately Samsung is putting more priority on the US release than HTC, so time will tell.
Now you're just asking for trolls
But in all seriousness, I'm now split. On one side I've always loved AMOLED, on the other 5" seems to big for me and 4.7" seems like a nice size.
On another side, I don't want to deal with having to unlock a bootloader, and neither UI I particularly like.
The One seems to have a better design, but the S4 has a nicer look to my eyes for some reason. Add the fact that the S4 has a real camera and a proper button layout and I'm leaning towards the S4 at this point.
I'll give you the short answer; no. Take a minute and look at this. Spot the toy.
Hahaha! I think it's the latter. Now more samsung users are gonna flood HTC One and Xperia Z forums!
In my honest opinion the only thing thats best on S4 is the GPU and .... and ..... guys! Help me add another best thing on the S4.
Personally me, I think the s3 had a lot to offer over an s2 and love the phone, have had no issues whatsoever.
I just miss HTC build quality and the One has the better build, by far.
Not sure on sense 5, but nothing a different launcher can't fix.
I was really hoping those leaks were fakes and or the software in an s3 type body to fool/Surprise the heck out of everyone, but nope, looks like the s3 with some gimmicky crap I would hardly ever use.
The one is my next phone, granted I do like the Note 2 due to spen function and multiwindow. Oh and screen real estate.
Gonna test each phone out quite a bit whenever the One comes to T-Mobile.
Definitely not impressed with the s4, which is saying Something as I enjoy my s3.
Sent from a galaxy far away!
The only thing that would have swayed me is if they said they managed to double the battery life or some crazy under the hood thing. Instead the spent more time talking about all the gimmiky crap that would likely do the opposite. GG
It comes down to what motivates people to pick one smartphone over another. Hardware wise, accept for the One's smaller display and battery, their similar. The 4MP camera on the One will most likely do better in low light while the 13MP in the SGS4 will do better with detail. I'd be surprised when the standardized tests from GSMArena or Anandtech come out if they don't both end up in a tie. The dual-speakers are really the only unique feature the One has over the SGS4. The "stuff" Samsung's added to the SGS4 camera is equal to or better than Zoe. Speaking of "stuff," the s/w features Samsung's added to the SGS4 are impressive; even if they are gimmicks. HTC's only stand-out addition to Sense is BlinkFeed. So in the end, a purchaser with no bias to Samsung or HTC will buy the One because they doesn't care about "stuff" or display size and are more interested in design or dual speakers. People interested in the SGS4 like "stuff" and the fact it's thinner and lighter than the One but has a 5" display, expandable storage, and a removable (larger) battery. Samung's design and use of plastic didn't hinder the SGS3's sales and there's no reason to expect it will harm the SGS4's either.
Thinking... Thinking... Thinking...
HTC or Samsung
Sent from my HTC One X
Samsung made my decision easy, definitely going with the One now. The uninspired UI and hardware turn me off so much, I can't stand everything about the S4's appearance.
I hope this one doesn't sell well and Samsung gets a reality check. People shouldn't take this minimal effort at full price.
The most significant thing for me was Samsung trying to hide Android more this time, with a load of new S apps that often mimic existing Google ones.
Samsung is trying to hook users into its own ecosystem from now on. It sees Google as a possible threat and needs a plan B. This is in the form of Tizen.
If you buy the GS4 you will use the Samsung apps, which will also be available on their new Tizen devices to appear in the autumn/fall.
Of course they don't have to ditch Android (like Nokia gave up everything for WP) but this is what they're planning.
Personally I want less customisation and the promise of more timely updates to bring new Android services.

This.
When I saw some of the features such as navigation, translate, voice, etc. all I can think about is that Google already offers this (Google Maps, Translate, Google Now). Then with talk about using their cloud services for everything you can really tell they are trying to remove as much Google from their phones as possible.
A few features though sounded pretty neat, such as the photo modes that let you remove unwanted people, drama shot, and a few others. But for features like the photos with sound, I'm sure you need to Samsung gallery to view them, it's not a simply JPEG file anymore.
