I hope those of us in the US don't have to wait 6 months for the phone to come to us. - Galaxy S III General

Like with the GS2 us in the USA on AT&T and to wait around 6 months for the phone to get to our stores. I work at a AT&T dealer and our Samsung rep said that Samsungs plan this time is to release all of them at the same time around the globe. Hopefully that is true.
My concern is that I don't see anywhere that says the Exenos quad core doesn't support LTE, which means we'll get a slower processor. Probably the Spandragon or something similar.
I love the dev community in the i777 forums and the cool thing is a lot of people are porting the ROMs over from the i9100 to the i777 since we have similar hardware. Don't see that being possible if the international version doesn't have LTE. I'm gonna wait a bit after it's released and see which might be the better option from a dev support side. I may even wait for the next nexus seeing as task650 keeps my phone running awesome....so no reason to fork out the door anyway hell I have my captivate running almost as fast as my i777 running AOKP on it.

I think there may be some truth to Samsung waiting until May to release the SIII in order to have a global release. But, we may have to wait a little longer. We will have to wait until Thursday to find out how long we will have to wait. I hope not too long.

If they can't manage to do a global release they will never be able to compete with Apple on a single handset. In volume yes... but not for a single model. Hopefully this is the reason why they are launching it the way they do it. If Apple can release an iPhone on most US carriers on launch day I don't see why Samsung can't.

I agree. But usually by now ( few days away from release, had this been an iphone) we would see screen shots of different carriers internal databases confirming a release date or intent to to carry the phone. Hope something like this pops up today for GS III!

Apple can release an iPhone on most US carriers because it has a lot more power over the carriers than Samsung and android in general does. For iOS carriers can't make any modifications at all to the hardware or software, but they can and they will for Android devices

I don't see the US getting the phone after the announcement I think the reason Samsung had delayed the announcement was manufacturing delays and patent trolling. As for the dual core vs quad core the dual core is benching higher than the quad in a lot of categories. I think this whole announcement is not going to live up to the hype everyone is generating.

What future for Galaxy S ?

If they have already made the accessories obsolete what future is there for the Galaxy S?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822136
There are loads of official goodies for the Tab so perhaps that is the way Samsung are going.
Apple once obsoleted a laptop 6 weeks into launch, and almost silently replaced it.
Don't think about it too much, Apple constantly depreciates accessories, but often, they are just redesigning them, or they felt there was no point in this case, because there were plenty of other car mounts anyway. Don't think too much into it..
There is a new galaxy s derivative thats been released to the japanese market, running 2.2 out of the box

UPDATE: PCMag’s Sascha Segan just posted an article of his own on the rumored device. The post had this to say on the matter: “The unnamed, unlocked Samsung phone is not coming out at an event on November 8, my sources said.” Although earlier in the post he did admit, “Samsung is working on an unlocked Android device that looks like the one in Gizmodo’s pictures. But it may not be called ‘Nexus Two.’”
I personally hope google will wait to use the Samsung Orion in their next Nexus phone. I would definately not buy it if it was based on the hummingbird. Why would I spend all that money for a phone that would basically have the same hardware as my current phone. I personally don't have a huge gripe about lag, and I'm not even running any lag fixes. The software will likely run much better, but not worth the price of a new phone in my opinion.
I'd rather wait for the next generation phones using the new A9 cores which will for sure hit before summer 2011

I believe the rumors are true about the new Nexus Two/Nexus S/Gingerbread Phone will be a slightly updated Galaxy S. Google's timeline indicated that this is about the right time for Gingerbread, and they have already put up that statue on their front lawn basically confirming that a release is imminent. At this point in time, Orion, Tegra 2, or dual core phones are all vaporware and would cost over a grand for each developer, which they will be unwilling to shell out. Galaxy S level of performance is best representative of state of the art right now. The GPU is also quite strong, which means Google can choose to add hardware acceleration to the UI to jazz it up, which they can't do very well with Nexus One and adreno. The line is also available on all networks, means Google can accommodate developers on any network. Samsung has also confirmed that they are working on a phone with Google experience. Why would they be doing one, if Galaxy S is is their flagship? All these things collectively point to an imminent release of the rumored device.

What's your thoughts on the upcoming Galaxy S II

I ask this question as a current Vibrant owner from the day it came out. I have seen all that Samsung has done with its first line of Galaxy S phones and so I'm not sure if all the new technology is going to be worth the upcoming headaches. Its easier to get a working ROM from the community rather than deal with official Samsung updates.
If you feel the same way I do, do you feel like the Vibrant is the last Samsung device you'll ever buy?
I'm just curious and it might help me make a decision on buying any upcoming devices from Samsung. Also since I've learned that the new Sidekick is going to be a Samsung device, I'm already depressed about that one.

I will definitely be upgrading if possible. I love the vibrant, but I'm not sure if it will ever see 2.4. I remember reading somewhere that 2.4 will utilize hardware acceleration for the ui, I'm really looking forward to that.
This will be my next phone love the phone............
I'm currently trying to decide if I am going to upgrade to it or hold off for something else. I think it just depends on what else comes out at MWC and when the release date will be on the S II.

I bought the galaxy s cause it had the most powerful cpu in the bunch + screen. The s2 = better screen + 1gb ram + dual core processor that's better than the hummingbird and the mali400 gpu is way better than current sgx540. Overall, it'll be the most powerful device in terms of hardware, i'll find some way to afford one!!
But yes, i'm pissed about the updates, wish they'd just release the source for everything and let the community do it if they don't want to.

It's not about buying it or not. That's a sure buy for me.
It's about when it'll be available on the T-Mo network. T-Mobile has its own 3G frequency(1700?) making buying a smartphone without this feature(i.e., that's not OEMed for T-Mo) a hard decision.
Im buying the first HSPA+, 4.3 inch Android phone T-Mo puts out. If this is it then ill be upgrading to this.

I don't know... it is going to be sooooo expensive unless they subsidize it on T-Mo. Right now you can get a decent Vibrant off craigslist for $250 off contract. That's pretty unbeatable. I doubt I'll be getting one of these for at least a year.

Never again. Fed up with Samsung and their wannabe-software.
Concentrate on what you know; hardware.
Im kind of up in the air...cool comes with 2.3 but 2.3 isn't that great that's why 2.4 is out in couple months to fix what issues 2.3 has and to add features 2.3 should have had if it wasn't rushed.
So who knows when it will get 2.4
If i do decided to get im getting a real galaxy s 2 and not from carrier one thing to wait from Samsung another to wait for tmobile on top of it
Depends on what HTC has available on T-Mobile, if somehow HTC puts out a competing phone it will be a tossup, but will come down to the screen size and how well SLCD holds up against SAMOLED

Wow have you guys seen this video? Seems very laggy - http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-official-tegra-2-4-3-inch-super-amoled-plu/
Getting a Windows Phone. Tired of dealing with manufacturer skins or crippled Nexus phones (i.e. Nexus S).
Also, why do people put up with the high rate at which Android Manufacturers cannibalize their devices.
Vibrant 4G may have good download speeds but who will want it if T-Mobile gets a Galaxy S II Variant - the same way some people are getting Nexus S due to the Vibrant's issues?
That's 4 new phones announced since the Vibrant was released... 6 months or so? And I'm ignoring it's sister phones on the ohter 3 major carriers and phones like the Continuum on Verizon...
It's hard for these non-Nexus devices to keep value when manufacturers are releasing new phones at such breakneck paces, and it makes it hard to commit to purchasing anything, since the chances of a better phone being released so soon is so high.
There's a reason why iPhones and even Windows phones are selling for more on eBay and CL than even high end Android phones...

Par for the course...
The fanbois are running out of excuses. I wonder if they'll claim Android isn't optimized for Tegra II this time, like they did with the Hummingbird.
The issue was always Samsung's RFS and crappy TouchWiz. Why buy something with TouchWiz on it, and I wouldn't rule out RFS, either...
Also, is it just me or does that phone have some odd choices of pre-loaded applications... Vlingo, for example...
Looks like an iPhone 4, though.
I really wish they would get rid of the chrome and round out the phone little
like the NS but still looks nice

Read countless reviews and still can't decide.
Two things putting me off. The lack of ICS and Samsung take forever to get updates out (example my old mans galaxy s2 is still on 2.3.4 while my brothers Liquid Metal is on 2.3.6) Also the fact that quad core phones will be out next year.
My being picky? How are you guys gettin on with you' re notes?
Seeing as there is one phone in existence sold with ics on it, that is kind of a tough stance to take. Also this has nearly the fastest currently available processor, why do you think you need a quad core?
I guess you could wait till they stop making new phones, that way there is nothing better just around the corner. I heard that will be next year, so I would wait.
Honestly, the best thing you can do is just get a new phone every year. until the next best thing, the note is it.

If you could wait for a Quad core phone then wait for it. If you can't, then the Note should do you well.

samsung arent too bad with updates, it could just be your device is locked to a region or carrier that doesnt update regularly.
my note was locked to the PLS region. it took 1-2 weeks longer than the other regions to get 2.3.6, but even so, its quite a quick update considering its a carrier branded device thats only been out for a month or so.
quad core phones have their strengths and weaknesses. the only advantage is in multitasking. you wont be able to use the raw power for a single app though aside from nvidia tegra 3 games. most PC apps are only now beginning to support multicore, i'd say android will take a fair while as well. when devs make apps, they make them so they will run on a wide variety of devices to maximise earnings. most people using android devices are still using single cores, devs will focus on maximising compatibility and improving performance on single cores first, so on a quad core phone, you may have one or two active cores with the other two doing pretty much nothing.
by the time the software catches up, you'd be stuck with a 40nm tegra3 that would burn your hands when a newer 28nm or 20nm cpu will be available and would be much faster and run much cooler.
i'd say just get a note now, enjoy the snappy performance of the apps samsung have optimised for dual core and the gpu and have fun knowing that you'll be using all you paid for in the phone rather than only getting half your money's worth with a quad.
As I know wildfires will not come out next year. There are coming some bastards 2x2 cores 2 at 1.5-1.8 and 2 low MHz cores so the battery live is increased when you don't need high usage of the cores. So don't think there will be much difference from the 2cores that are in the market atm. Maybe a better you on them will do the trick as now ics will provide hw acceleration.
Just my thoughts about that.

Galaxy Tab 2????

REALLY??!!! SERIOUSLY????!!! How many tablets does Sammy think they need to through out at the public to get that they aren't going to sell until they lower prices, not specs! End rant.
Lower prices? The 10.1 is $50 cheaper than the iPad and the 8.9 is $100 cheaper...
I think they are currently priced just about right...
Wish they lowered the prices on the older tabs significantly.
Means we can root em and flash our own builds for a reasonable price
they are just making fools of the peoples who took tabs recently ....i got my first tab SGT p1000 first then few months later this 10.1 came up i took that traded for my p1000 now this 7.7 got infrared and can do calls too..god they gonna make me trade my 10.1 too
i agree, i think this is the only problem with android, we are being flooded with devices at them moment, hopefully it will slow down and we can see some more quality devices come out... pricing for samsungs tabs though are great i think, leave the lower market to other companies, I want a powerful device in my hands.

This is exactly what I mean! Sammy has now released like 5 new tablets with same basic hardware of their old tablets.. Tegra 3 is ready and being used by Asus already! I like Samsung's hardware the best, but I'm just sick of seeing *New tablets with underwhelming, old hardware in them.. I know that price is def a factor, but manufacturing 20 different tablets is expensive.. if they had 3 form factors/models it would save money for them, and then us!

Nvidia's on record saying they've lost Samsung as a customer and now consider them a competitor. So, don't hold your breath for Teg3. Teg3 is actually two old-gen A9 chips glommed together. Samsung's Exynos 5250 is in sampling making it the first A15 chip on the market when it’s supposed to release in Q2. Raw HP isn't the real issue with mobile devices. It's GPU bandwidth. A15 chips will be more powerful than Teg3 and have 5x the graphics b/w. I think a lot of manufacturers are intentionally skipping Teg3 and moving directly to A15 chips (from Samsung, TI, and Qualcomm) which are easier to fabricate and potentially less expensive. The Prime’s having a ton of issues where different devices behave differently when updates are rolled out. It’s too early to say its Teg3 but it’s a potential candidate for the problems.

"Unfair" would suggest they owe you some duty of not producing new models. Have you really thought this through? "We buy a thing today, and tomorrow they come up with the improv[ed] one." If this is unfair, how long do they have to wait? Do you realize that they released this tablet in May of 2011, 9 months ago, right? You also realize that the successor does not yet exist, right? BUT there is ALWAYS something better around the corner. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Nuff said. I agree Samsungs SOC will be better, but will it be too late? Look at Windows Phone 7, its great, but 3-4 years too late..
My main point..
Is Samsung going to seriously produce 20 different models of tablets? I understand it being nice to have 'choices', but Samsung has enough work keeping past models firmware relevant, let alone producing 20 new version/sizes every few months, there is no way they can properly support that many.. I wouldn't think twice is they made actually changes to new models like vastly improved batteries, or more memory etc.
I've been saying for many years that if you buy an electronic device, it will be obsolete BEFORE you make it out of the front door of the store. You might make it back home if you buy the most expensive model of whatever. It's just the way of high tech devices these days. We consumers have only helped them by replacing perfectly functional devices just for the lasted and greatest one. Even if the new one has twice the speed or memory, do you need it?
Probably not. Yet we continue to demand, and purchase, which is just encouragement for them to continue. I honestly think its only gonna get worse. It's really our fault as consumers always wanting more and better; NOW.
When I was growing up electronics were durable goods. You bought a TV and you kept it until it quit working. Now we buy a new one because of widget xyz is better on the new model. I'm guilty of this myself also, just not as much as I used to be. Even though I have more money to spend these days.

Who knows when it comes out.

I live in Canada and we do have LTE networks here and the only options we really had were either to buy the International Version from an importer to get the QuadCore device (which I did) OR to get a DualCore Qualcomm device with the LTE and the 2G of RAM from one of our carriers.
Anyone else feeling just a bit put out?
You are right, lets convince Samsung to wait for five years to release a better device. They are not a company and don't have to profit anyway.
Enjoy what you have man. Your phone is not worse now, it is the same.
I'll only be pissed if they release a version without the wake-up lag and physical home button. Other than that, a few small inconsequential improvements don't matter to me.
Cool.. someone pissed off by the wake-up lag.
Likewise. It's actually worse than the SGSII!
Btw, you can disable S-voice launching for home button and that removes the home button lag. Check out the S-voice settings..
I don´t need LTE, because in Germany 3G is not perfect yet and they talk about LTE hahaha -.-

It would be different if they were releasing a completely new device but it begs the question as to why they couldnt have just released a QuadCore LTE device in the first place instead of LESS than 6 months after the original devices had been released.
I understand that Sammy is a company looking to make money and I am quite a loyal Sammy user but this just seems silly to me. And trust me... I LOVE my phone but that extra Gig of RAM sure would be nice to have... :silly:

Lol... Fair enough...
Why would anyone be pissed about it? To get mad over a newer device than what you have is just a tad silly if you ask me.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Were you seriously hoping the SGSIII to be the last phone ever?
Not really, but am pissed I'm on a contract and the SGS 4 shall be out in March/April 2013. 14 months before this contract runs out!
Might put away $2 per day in the cookie jar and sell this then and buy it outright..
Swyped on GT-I9300 - XXDLIB - Siyah kernel - JKay & Thunderbolt tweaks.
Sell yours and get the new one.
I debated against the qualcom with more memory of the exynos quad.
Exynos quad won.
If I wanted a phone that never changes and hardly ever improves I'd buy a freaking iPhone, but I have more than half a brain and knew this was gonna happen the day they announced no LTE and only 1gb ram on international i9300.
It's the nature of technology... can happen with anything
i think it's normal today :silly:
But here in germany LTE starts very slowly... so it comes with the next phone (~2years) for me maybe

Because they couldn't put LTE and the S4 in the phone at the time, only when developing the note 2 they realised the solution to use it.
I share your disappointment and anger, and I too feel cheated out of several hundred dollars.
I kinda lost my trust in Samsung. I could buy a Note II, but what if I wait 3-4 months and Samsung releases a revamped version of it? No way! I am never buying another Samsung device so close to launch anymore.
Yeah, if you're pissed about this, the next phone you buy should be made by one of the companies that don't release improved versions and/or newer better phones in the future... Because, you know... There are a lot of those companies, for example... uh... hmm... let's see... well I can't think of any right now but I'm sure there are some, because it sounds like a great business model and all.

Well, touché, kind of... But they do release newer, more shiny devices every year that cause people to get itchy for an update too.
I do get your humor and your underlying point, my own point (as I'm sure you also know) is just that every company does this. No company will ever release a phone and then be like "well guys, this is it - this phone is so good that we won't make another one now for three years", which is what some people seem to be expecting...
I almost sold my SG3 to collect funds for a note 2 but then I thought about it, Why? I love this phone, there is nothing wrong with it, its fast and has tons of support. I know tomorrow there will be like 5 more devices that may have better specs and do more but I will stick with my i9300 for a year or so, at least till the SG4 comes out, I am not going to jump ship as soon as a new phone comes out,
Maybe they will make an i9310 with 1.6 quad core and mali 400mp with slightly higher clock speeds!!
