I´ve been thinking about getting a tablet lately but I cannot make up my mind about getting either the 7 Plus or the 7.7. I can get the 7 Plus here in Brazil for around us$400 and the 7.7 for us$750 (almost DOUBLE the price!). I know the super amoled screen must be an incredible joy to watch movies but is the screen on the 7 Plus bad? I used to have the Atrix and I hated how faded the screen looked when watching movies when compared to the GSI amoled screen. I now have a GSII and the screen is just perfect.
Other than the screen is there really anything else that can justify the price difference? I mean, the 7.7 has a little bit more memory and a little bit more battery time. I´m having a hard time paying almost double the price just for the amoled benefit.
Well, for that price difference it's not worth it IMO. However, the screen size and quality is definitely a plus for the 7.7. You would say it's only .7", but it makes a pretty big difference.
And think about it: are you really going to watch that many movies on a tablet? I have the 7.7 and am very happy with it, but I think the 7 plus does the job as well for less cash. At the time I got mine there weren't any decent options in the 7-8" range in Romania, but if I had to buy it now, I would think twice.

I have a 7 plus I will probably sell. For me:
1. The increased screen size and resolution really makes it worthwhile
2. Having integrated LTE was just too good for me to pass on.

By itself, the 7.0+ is certainly a great little device that you can get for a reasonable price now.
But, compared to the 7.7 the screen on the 7.0+ just suuuuuucks. It makes a huge difference in user experience.
The resolution is what sold me on the 7.7. Coming from an N7000 I was not willing to go back to a lower resolution plus I remember hating the Gtab 7 1.0's resolution for web browsing back when I had one.
I tried the 7 Plus for about two weeks. I liked it, it did what I needed, but switching between that and my Galaxy Nexus really made the screen quality show. I also hated that when I downloaded apps they would most always be set to the phone app vs tablet because of the screen resolution. Changing the density didn't fix this at all. After trying a second time with a Tab 2 this passed Sunday, I gave up and ponied up for the 7.7. I can say i'm happy, even with paying nearly 3 times as much as I had for the 7 Plus or Tab 2.
First of all if you are looking for 7+ then I suggest you wait a bit until Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 announced. Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is a step down version of 7+, but you really want to compare it before making your decision.
Nevertheless, if budget is not your major concern then go for 7.7. It worths every penny you spent.
There is a huge difference, battery and screen are the biggest. It is best to go to Fastshop and see for yourself. They already have the hard cover at the online store.

Tab 2 7 is already out. I've already bought and returned one from Best Buy. The 7 Plus feels better in hand IMO. ICS is obviously nice.

It mainly depends on your use case. Where I live, the prices are even worse and the difference is even more marked, yet I went for the 7.7 instead of the 7 plus.
The screens made a difference for me as I use it to rate my photography and the 7 plus simply does not do the same job as the 7.7 when it comes to color and tone accuracy. The 7 plus is not bad, but it's nowhere near close.
The 1280*800 resolution on the 7.7 compared to the 1024*600 on the 7 Plus makes a huge difference. The original Galaxy Tab 7 had a screen resolution of 1024*600 and I would not buy anything with that resolution now. Also, the 7.7 uses Super Amoled Plus which is another great advantage. If you can afford it go for the 7.7.
Thanks for all the comments, guys. I think I will wait for a while and see what the market has to offer. With all the quad core devices out there I feel that maybe the 7.7 is a bit overpriced (specially when compared to the yet to be launched Toshiba 7.7 tablet...which is a quad core with a super amoled screen...plus a mini usb port).
I had the 7+ for about 3 days and took it back and picked up the 7.7 for about $125 more. Well worth the upgrade for that price, but nearly twice the cost, I doubt I'd do it.
Resolution (1280x800), Super Amoled screen, 5100mAh battery (last long!), lighter in weight (eventho it is bigger!), Faster processor (1.4MHz) and so on.
Absolutely worth it, that extra resolution on Super Amoled Plus is sex for my eyes. I had the original GT, the Tab Plus, and when i got this to try out due to having LTE I couldn't bring myself to send it back.
I guess it's a different story if you are budget limited.
This tablet is freakin' awesome. Its fast, great battery life, gorgeous screen. Honeycomb is the only drawback

This...has been repeatedly discussed so I'll be brief. Tegra has a weird lag when in landscape (8.9 issue), Exynos does not. Display quality, if you googled the 8.9 and 7 specifications you would notice the 8.9 has more resolution than the 7 model. Today's tablets are very capable and fast for those functions you listed.

In terms of raw power, any dual cor eprocessor will handle the BASIC tasks you are looking to do
In terms of Phones Exynos looks faster but i don't know how that compares to tablets
For gaming, Tablet games are more often then not optimized for the Tegra 2 platform, TegraZone games make the most out of the processor and they looks phenominal. I don't know how well Exynos does gaming on a tablet
8.9 has a higher resolution which makes videos much easier. Also the speakers on the 8.9 are really good fo a tablet. I am not picky on audio but i use it when i play Oblivion and it overpowers the tv half the time
I think the larger screen is beneficial for internet browsing. I would definitely try them both out for usability i.e. screen size and weight to see if the $70 price difference is worth going for the larger one. Personally the 8.9's size of a hardback book is perfect.

The 7+ has a MicroSD slot, whereas the 8.9 does not. Besides that, it is the same beast in a different shell size. In the end it is up to you. Consider the screen resolution, portability and the size and possibly the MicroSD slot in your case. For me and my small hands 8.9 is the perfect balance, but for bigger hands, some may prefer the 10.1 for example.

I've had both.. the old 7 and the new 8.9 and I definitely like the little larger screen.. I would say the only physical improvement I could see for the 8.9 would be a little different aspect ratio.. towards the ipad.
I have the original GT7 and I just got the 8.9. While I do like the new GT, I really wish that the 7.7 was out - that sounds like the perfect tablet for my needs...

I'm trying them both out myself. I guess the 7in. form works for some, what with the new Fire getting the press (this is far superior to that not surprisingly!), but with this resolution it just doesn't fit my needs between a tablet and phone. I kept reading in reviews how much faster than the other tabs it was but really what I'm noticing is the increased heat you feel when its zipping along. The remote software is legitimately cool though, easy to set up, nicely designed and a pleasure to use.
The 8.9 is a definite keeper. Especially with the new Overcome kernel. It's the most beautiful android tablet I've ever used, even more comfortable and light than the iPad. I can't believe how nice the design is, I really hope the 8.9 form factor sticks with Samsung.
One important point though: Tegra 2 absolutely blows at playing HD video unless transcoded properly. This is a huge flaw with most Honeycomb tablets IMO. The 7 Plus eats any video you throw at it since it doesn't have that mediocre processor.

No, as 8.9 does not have an IR port.
I've had a 7" inch HTC Flyer myself, I found it too small ( that and the screen sucks as does HTC support, but that's another discussion I guess)
I have the 8.9 now, and I love it (especially for reading, and annotating docs)
I was stuck trying to decide between the two.. I love a 7" form factor.. but I was disappointed with the 1024x600 resolution on the 7".. Loved the pixel density and ability to fit a lot more content on the 8.9".. but the 4210 Exynos SOC inside the 7 plus is night and day clock for clock against the Tegra2.
I ended up with the 7 Plus .. Best Buy has a return policy until mid-Jan (holiday return policy) so if I change my mind or some other Tablet meets my needs better I can always exchange.
The 7 Plus' hardware will provide more future proofing than Tegra2 in the long run. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 hits a home run in all aspects.. An even faster clocked 4210 at 1.4ghz.. The higher resolution 1280x800, and more pixel density due to the 7.7 screen size over a 8.9".. Not to mention the even more battery efficient Super AMOLED+ display. Otherwise, you also get a LIGHTER tablet and BIGGER battery capacity in the 7.7.
I'll definately be upgrading to it when it comes out. For now, the 7+ remains the fastest OUT-OF-THE-BOX Honeycomb tablet in existence.
Even overclocked Tegra2's can barely keep up with a 1.2ghz 4210.
I just wish there was development going on for the 7+. It's nearly non-existent because the 7+ is a stepping stone to bigger and better things (Tegra3 and faster Exynos) ... that said, a lot of people are just holding out for the next generation of tablets.

Like you I was strongly attracted to the 7.7 when I was in the market to buy. At that time, no word when/if we'd get it here. And imports were $600 and up. Bought the Gt 7+ and have not looked back since.
Gotta say yes, the larger screen (not by much ), AMOLED quality (very nice) and slightly faster processor makes a very attractive package.
But....
Our community here is growing (not light speed but still), we have root and CWM (thanks gary9d), more than a few recognized devs are following here and there are a selection of cases/sleeves with more on the way.
Who is to say the aftermarket accessories manufacturers will embrace SO MANY different "flavors" of GTab (7.0, 7.0+, 7.7, 8.9, 10.1 and perhaps an 11.0?) I'm doubtful myself.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but there are quite a few more upgrades on the 7.7 over the 7.0 Plus. Bigger battery (5100mAh vs 4000mAh), thinner, lighter, 64GB option, and as you mentioned better display all around - Super AMOLED Plus, higher resolution at 1280 x 800, and larger at 7.7 inches. The only sacrifice really is that it's ever so slightly taller and wider in dimensions, and probably will cost a bit more. I wouldn't underestimate the number of people holding out for the 7.7, I think the dev community will be strong, and I suspect it will have support for CyanogenMod 9.
Although as with all electronics something better will always be just around the corner, as rumors are swirling of a Galaxy Tab 8.3 in the works (Super AMOLED Plus, quad core 1.5GHz, Ice Cream Sandwich), so if you decide to stick with the 7.0 Plus no one is stopping you from enjoying it to the fullest!

Quite right that there's always "something better" just around the corner. If one were to wait for the next best thing, one would never get anything I suspect. As long as whatever you gets does what you want, it's all good.
It's can be a crap-shoot on community support. Samsung devices have the reputation for quality hence usually a good following. That said, I believe that people who gravitate to forums like this tend to be more tech-centric than the majority of tab users. I do wonder though as I read several articles (trades and users) praising the 7+ but somewhat negative mentions about the price. I am curious just how high Android tabs will be able to fetch. Granted, it's my belief that even the $499 iPad is over priced by at least $100 but I wonder if the $400 price point might be the "sweet spot" for full-featured tabs regardless of size? I'm not a "gamer" so my power needs are modest.
This is my first Samsung tab and I am impressed. But so many screen size choices? Price and not so much screen size/features, I suspect, will drive many sales. Witness B&N and Amazon. I confess I am sure I'll be comparing at BB the 7.7 and other screens when it hits!

Well we still don't know what the official prices are going to be, the sites that are offering pre-orders are pretty much just making up their own prices. I have heard however the official price in Australia will be $579 for the 16GB and $649 for the 32GB, and that's in AUD. Looking at the iPad 2 prices in AUD they are almost identical, and we don't know if these prices are for the WiFi or 3G/4G model, but I would suspect the 7.7 will be between $450-500 for the 16GB WiFi model in the US.
Can't wait to see it and compare it with my 7+. Size is my main concern, 7.7 is quite long and wider. If a device is too big, I cant really bring it out whenever I like. Not So useful and convenient like 7 inch tablet too. I once had a larger tablet and I almost left it everyday at my home, sold it at last. Anyway, 7.7 is worth waiting.

Hi. Im new to this part of xda. And this is somewhat bothersome news as I just bought my plus today. First tablet in some time that made me think wow. I have an ipad now. Owned the Transformer and Dell Streak 5 and 7. I was going to wait until spring.g to see the new XOOM, ipad3, and TF Prime but decided after seeing this I thought this could last awhile before going down in price.

It will be really disappointing if we never get any good roms... But I'm mostly happy with root as it is.

I am very attracted to the 7.7 personally. Have an 8.9 that I'm planning on selling very soon. (Tegra 2 just plain sucks compared to Exynos frankly), and though it's a nice form factor, it's not for me. No phone calling ability is a big downer too; I like being able to swap my SIM card between my original Tab and phone depending on the situation.
Have the Note too, but not sure if I will keep it or not. Waiting to see what ICS will be like on it. Could be amazing, or could just be "meh." If it's not that much better, may sell my Note too and just stick to an SGS2/7.7 combo.
Then again, CES is right around the corner, so maybe it may be worth waiting longer still depending on what else may be coming out for 2012!

My main reason for buying the 7+ is because it's quite versatile. I don't want to be lugging around a phone, tablet and laptop with me along with their respective accessories and chargers all day so I opted to buy the 7+. This means I can use my ultraportable for serious computing (negating the need to carry the charger), and the tablet for all my communication needs plus some light gaming, reading or browsing.
So it doesn't have the largest battery, or the best resolution, or the latest and greatest processor; but, it's got a large enough screen to comfortably read eBooks, browse the interwebs, and pretty much everything else. It's got decent enough performance (better than decent, actually) to handle all the apps I want + sd card expansion. And most importantly (for me), it doubles as a phone.
I know I look silly when I take calls on it, but I'm okay with that. Like the famous philosopher Jagger once said 'you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you get what you need'.
I love the 8.9 and initially wanted to get that, but in the end telephone capabilities and sd card expansion won out over a larger,more gorgeous screen.

I am pickinmg my 7.7 wifi up tomorrow from **** Smith in Australia - can't wait, been wanting a tablet for ages. I had originally ordered a Transformer Prime until Amazon canceled the order. But this is the tablet I really wanted.
I don't know. I mean, I was planing to get the 7+ near the end of this month. I know that the screen and whatnot is better or the 7.7, but I seriously don't know if I would like the better screen or use the maybe bit more charge from it having a bigger battery to spend $200 more then what I was planing on spending.
I'm afraid that 7.7 might still have the Black stains/blotches on the screen, just like in S II. When viewing on dark room.
So no specific release date or price? If its not much more in price than the 7 plus and coming out fairly soon id like to return mine and wait for the 7.7

i am looking to buy something new, i recently sold my xperia play and bb playbook, i have had iphones, sgs2 in the past and recently a htc one x but returned it because of build quality issues,
im choosing between either:
g note in white, unlocked with flip case and car dock for £350
or
galaxy s3 on contract which will work out to be just over £600
any advice guys? is the note priced ok? any problems to watch out for? etc..

My thoughts are: Have you used a G note, its hard to go back to smaller screens, i myself was checking on the htc one x , but it felt so small too. and sg3 have the same sice of screen. As of performance, i hardly ever use even half of the performance in my g note, although i never play games, maybe its there you get use of 4core.
Hell, since i bought my note, i hardly use my laptop =)

Considering all the S3 features that devs are porting over to the Note, as well as all the dev momentum the Note has now, along with the fact that it has a bigger and higher resolution screen than the S3, not to mention the S-Pen, plus the one you're looking at is unlocked and off-contract AND cheaper? Yeah, I think this is a no-brainer. Get the GS3.
Kidding of course! Seriously though, the Note is a beast. Get the Note.
The note has a superior sized screen and most of the GS3 apps etc ported over and working. No brainer springs to mind.

I love my Note. Best feature is its screen. Its great that its so big. But its worst feature is that its screen is so big to hold. Bit of a conpromise.
There are things i can't do with the Note cause its so big. Namely one handed use. The S3 is probably small enough to get my thumb across the screen probably as the biggest phone to allow it. S pen is great sometimes. Web pages with that little extra width is great.
Specs are close enough to ignore. Its all on extra width convenience versus too wide for one hand use. Test the feel and see how you feel. Note versus GS3 plus iPad? ;-)

No offence.... but asking between the note and an S3 on a note forum is a little silly... clear bias....
In fairness though, I've played with the S3 a bit and I'm not a fan... the phone feels quite cheap material wise and the new touchwhiz still doesn't please me. The screen although lower resolution is slightly better in some areas which is nice... since there aren't many real quad core streamlined applications currently I think its a bit early in the fight to really rule out its power... that being said, for normal day to day use you won't notice any real difference.... I doubt quad core will pay dividends until Jelly Bean....
In the end, the community for the S3 will be fantastic and support will outlive the Note on its name alone...
Personally I'm going to stick with the Note. I prefer the larger screen and the hardware is still up there with the better handsets... the community ROMs are flying and the development community as a whole is fantastically supportive.
I guess the questions you should be asking yourself are:
- Do you want/need a bigger screen?
- Are you willing to wait 6 months to a year for the extra performance to really bare fruit?

I think u should choose note rather than sg3. Note is more big. So u may watch movie on it. In addition.. The note price is more cheap. I also hardly to use my laptop after i buy my note. A developer also porting a sg3 apk on note. Note also is a tablet. Did u see the advertisement? note is the best.

Both are great phones so you can't go wrong.

In fairness though, I've played with the S3 a bit and I'm not a fan... the phone feels quite cheap material wise and the new touchwhiz still doesn't please me. The screen although lower resolution is slightly better in some areas which is nice... since there aren't many real quad core streamlined applications currently I think its a bit early in the fight to really rule out its power... that being said, for normal day to day use you won't notice any real difference.... I doubt quad core will pay dividends until Jelly Bean....
In the end, the community for the S3 will be fantastic and support will outlive the Note on its name alone...
Personally I'm going to stick with the Note. I prefer the larger screen and the hardware is still up there with the better handsets... the community ROMs are flying and the development community as a whole is fantastically supportive.
I guess the questions you should be asking yourself are:
- Do you want/need a bigger screen?
- Are you willing to wait 6 months to a year for the extra performance to really bare fruit?

so far google has already mentioned that the ICS browser can support quad core. plus, nvidia has been pushing devs to improve support for quad core in their games, and you can leech off that support with chainfire3d.
and also, s3 is running on 32nm tech whereas we're stuck on 45nm tech. even if you dont use the extra processing power of quad core, we still cant compare with the fact that the s3 can shut down inactive cores, and will use less power and produce less heat for the same tasks as a result of the smaller manufacturing process.
so if he uses browsers and plays high quality games, he can take advantage of the processing power now. and if he doesnt, he can take advantage of the improved battery life. dont need to wait 6 months for that.

galaxy s3 has 4.8inch screen with 16:9 ratio. so its more or less the same size as our screen except not as wide (or tall if you're looking at it widescreen). movies are generally encoded at 16:9 or 2.35:1. ie. its going to look more or less the same on either screen since 16:9 movies will have black bars on our notes and 2.35:1 movies will have black bars on both devices.
Ill be honest and realistic here.
If you are a "normal" user and like to mess around with your device a bit, and want the fastest, most powerful device for average use, like games here and there, phone calls, sms, etc, get the S3.
If you "love" to mess around with your device(like me) want the biggest and most badass screen, big battery "device" not only phone, get the note. For me, my note is my personal game system, communication device, a mini laptop if you may, that also happens to make calls and texts, and its the perfect device for me.
Hello I'm intrigued by the S Pen, I'm just wondering if those of you with the 10" tablet are able to comfortably draw and sketch on it? I don't really want to have to wait until Q2 for the Note 8. I do like the smaller form factor though. I had an iPad for a while and sold it because it was too heavy and bulky. I had a Nexus 7 and liked it much better. I just want to get the input from you owners. Does the note 10.1 feel heavy and bulky to you? I'm trying to figure out if the 8.0 would have enough room to draw on, I think it would though. I messed around with the 10 today at BB today and was surprised how nice the software was and how accurate the pen was. What should I do? Thanks.
It feels fine to me but I'm a big guy with big hands I had 7" tablets before and if drawing is what u going to do get the 10.1

Thanks. Im a big guy too, just withh average sized hands haha. I just wish Samsung would release a price on the 8.0 because that is a factor considering I have another tablet I've paid for. The problem I used to have with my iPad is my arms and neck would start hurting after a while, but I was attempting to play a lot of games on it, I think drawing on a table wit the note 10 would be much easier.
After using my note 10.1, my galaxy tab 2 7.0 seems absolutely puny now. I tried drawing on my note 2, and it's a touch too small. I would say go with the note 10. It's a little more useful, and you have a n7 for portability.
Yeah I feel the same way use to use my gf nexus 7 and think wow th his is big by comparison to my gs3 note with my note I feel like I can use the n7 as a phone by comparison to my note 10.1. Its a bit big at first but you will get use to it, it comes down to personal preference really what feels good in your hands

I think the Galaxy Note 10.1 is too small sometimes (when I multiwindow, for instance) so I'd imagine the 8 would have that feeling amplified..

I heard the note 8 has a TFT display which typically doesn't have good viewing angles,but thats hinting at it being more of a budget tablet. So I'm not sure. I can get a note 10.1 off ebay for under $400 so price isn't a big deal I guess.

I had the tab 7.7 and LOVED it...why they dropped amoled on the 8 is a mystery to me, and very disappointing. Im 6'3" and 165 lbs. My hands are plenty big, and I STILL fin myself having to move them while holding the 10.1 in both hands....if I DIDNT use it for drawing, id get a smaller tablet.

Problem with high def screens and amoled is power consumption. Lots more pixels to power up seems to be more efficient to use tft at that point in size.

Thanks, your comment really reminds me Why I don't like 10inch tablets. I remember the iPad 4 I had was absolutely beautiful screen and had excellent performance, but that wasn't enough to make me keep it. It was very tiring using it more than a few minutes at a time. I've seen some of the amazing drawings people have created on the Gnote 2, so I don't think 8 inches would be too small at all because I'm typically a small drawer anyway. I am going to wait it out I guess, and at least hear the pricing for the Gnote8, couldn't be too long hopefully.
Also when I said it has a TFT LCD, I was thinking TN display which is horrible so that not a big concern at all. If its around $300 I will be getting the note 8.0
Get the samsung ativ smart pc, its 11.6" with s-pen, dockable keyboard like transformer and windows RT or windows 8 depending on how much you pay.
Otherwise, the 10.1 is a good size for drawing, havent tried the 8 yet.honestly for me,sometimes the 10.1 is a little small taking notes in class. But it may not be the case for everyone

Couple things to keep in mind when comparing the two:
1) Though both have the same resolution, the screen will be significantly sharper on the Note 8.0 due to an increase in PPI of about 40.
2) This means crisper webfonts which was always the big knock on the Note 10.1 - web text has the jaggies.
3) There is a significant difference in writing space on an 8 vs a 7 in screen. I've owned 7 inch tablets and the iPad Mini (7.9) seems MUCH larger.
4) In a pinch you can slip an 8 inch tablet into a front pants pocket. With the Note 10.1 you are committed to carrying it.
5) Timing. The closer we get to release of the Note 8.0, especially if the price of the wifi version comes in under $350, demand for the Note 10.1 is going to plummet. We have already seen Bestbuy cut their price by $50. Expect that to go lower. If you can wait you may be able to pick up a Note 10.1 for $399 brand new. Also Craigslist and eBay will be full of Note 10.1 owners selling their almost new tablets at big discounts to buy a Note 8.0.

Thanks, I agree with everything you said. I forgot the poi is only 149 on the Gnote10.1. I don't want fuzzy text! I also keep thinking back to my previous 10" tablets and they were not pleasant experiences. I didn't mention this before but I have an iPad mini as well, and its absolutely brilliant when it comes to picking it up and just doing anything you want. I'm going to wait for the note 8.0 and possibly preorder if Samsung does that not sure?

I think you could make the argument that one reason Samsung has not yet announced pricing for the Note 8.0 is that the wifi version will be $299 and they don't want to utterly destroy Note 10.1 sales between now and the day they release. Just for reference the Note 8.0 will be about as wide as the Note 2 is in landscape. So, if you have ever tried writing on the Note 2 in landscape you will know it is plenty wide.
Note 8.0. Thinner, lighter, more transportable, crisper screen yet still wide enough to write on in portrait. The perfect device IMHO. Only problem will be actually getting one. We'll be lucky to see a USA release before June. Europe always gets Samsung stuff first and they won't get theirs until 2nd quarter.

Just read this article. When do you expect the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 be available on sale? I am considering to buy the Galaxy 10.1 2014 this month but if the Pro will be available in two months, perhaps I should wait.

I'm sure it will be gorgeous, but at 12.2" aren't we moving into laptop territory? I think if I'm going to carry around something that big, it might has well have a real keyboard of sorts, like a 11" macbook air.
I thought I would want this, but using the 10.1 2014 edition, I can't possibly have anything else. It's the perfect size.
Yeah, you also have to wonder what the battery life will be like. I don't think I would gain anything from a 12" tablet that isn't running Windows. Also, it better have some kind of quick charge going on. Charge time on the 2014 is brutal.

From the info posted on the web, it seems that while the battery is larger (for the larger display), the CPU and RAM are the same as the 10.1 2014. Could this mean there might be more lag? Why doesn't Samsung allow us to change the battery like the Note 1-3?
While samsung don't make 4:3 ratio tablet at all, 12.2 or 13.3 tablet may be better.
We can see full page in landscape mode without scrolling.

Screen size is larger but resolution is the same so it wouldn't make a difference as far as lag is concerned, that's only rumoured spec anyhow.
Theres going to be four new tablets from samsung all rumoured to be out before March at the latest, with the 12.2 being one of the first released.
In that case, perhaps I should hold the purchase for the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 and upgrade my Note 2 to Note 3.

Good point. I'd rather see a 4:3 10" Android-powered tablet than a 12.2 or a 12.3 that is 16:10 or (eww) 16:9. It is frustrating that the only decent 4:3 tablet is the iPad (although HP did just come out with the HP Slate Pro 8, but the specs on that are pretty weak).
So if they Samsung is releasing a 12.2'' Note , the prices for Note 10.1 might come down aswell, if so i will just return mine and wait. _P

Highly doubtful. More likely is the price of the 12.2 will be noticeably higher. I use my 10.1 for entertainment when traveling and to get light productivity work done so I don't have to schlep my notebook with me all the time. At least to me, 12.2" is just way too big and defeats the portability benefit of a tablet. You've got to give Samsung credit though for leaving no niche unexploited.

I agree, it'll most likely be more expensive, might as well buy a laptop or surface pro and be more productive.
I want one of these just because it's bigger, but there are just too many drawbacks. With the increase in screen size (which is substantial), there is a significant increase in weight and price with a drop in ppi
It's rumored to be 750g, which is actually only 3 oz heavier than an iPad 4, which actually isn't that bad considering the size.
I use my Note 10.1 while travelling. I take notes at clients sites, and I use t for reading and gaming in the airports. Even the 10" can get a little heavy for holding when reading, so I don't think I would want the additional weight of a larger tablet. For travellers weight is the enemy. I like a decent sized screen, but I have to balance that with weight.
A couple months ago I would have also gravitated toward the 12 - inch tablet. However, seeing the lower sales numbers for this device, due to the high price and how it has suppressed the development of custom ROMs, I have changed my perspective.
Thanks to Scott for Clean ROM, and finally breaking the log jam.
I cannot imagine the weight difference being noticeable in the long run, if you get the big dog.

I own the Nexus 10 (same screen size and resolution of SGN 10.1 2014) and an HP TM2 12.2 hybrid tablet/notebook. The HP can be used either as a tablet with pen or by rotating the screen it can be used as a touch notebook. Comparing the 10.1" screen to the 12.2" screen; the 12.2" is significantly larger. I use my tablet for web browsing and while the 10.1" does a nice job, the 12.2 is much less fatiguing to use. You wouldn't realize this unless you could switch from one to the other and directly compare them. But since the Nexus 10 is much more convenient to handle, it is my go to tablet right now.
I'm definitely going to pickup the PRO when it is introduced and compare it directly to the Nexus 10 for daily use. I will either go with the PRO or the SGN 10.1 2014. Because of the pretty drastic difference in size, I think it will not take long to develop a clear preference in actual use. The PRO may be to big ... or maybe not.
Many people felt the SG Note was too big to be used as a phone, but I have really enjoyed my Note 2 and now my Note 3. When I switch to smaller phones they seem seriously inconvenient to use.
