[Q] Can anyone please help me here - Noob. <) - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm a noob just bought a new Defy (my first Android device)
I know this will annoy most of you here, but I have been reading this forum for past few days but couldn't come to a conclusion. So thought of posting a new thead.
I have a Defy running on Eclair and wanted to upgrade to 2.3 or to some custom ROMS, but I got too much confused reading all about Stock ROMS, CM7, CM9, MIUI and other Custom ROMS.
I just want to upgrade my phone from 2.1 and I desire a ROM which will give me Great Performance and Good Battery Life.
Can anyone here be kind enough and give me a simple explanation of what should I do.
You can post a wacky caption as well.
Thank for any help.

Don't have time to give instructions now, but DO NOT flash a full 2.3.6 sbf/upgrade to 2.3.6! Stay on froyo. It is possible to run all custom roms with this as base, also the newest 2.3.6 gingerbread ROMs. Someone please specify for the guy^^

Okay thanks mate for that info.
Currently i'm on Eclair so i think first of all i have to upgrade to froyo then i can think of going to cm7 and othet custom roms, right?
As you all would have played with lot of custom roms, can anyone suggest me which one should i go with?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA

It's really just a matter of taste. Here are some of the main categories of custom roms:
MIUI
CM7
Modified stock roms
CM9 and CM9 based ICS roms (that's ICS, android 4 . Not stable yet, maybe never 100% without unlocked bootloader )
There are many different flavours to choose from within most of these categories, but there are already a lot of threads about this. You need to read, read, read before you start flashing custom roms. Have you read the All-in-One Defy Beginner's guide? Every defy user should read it. Every single day a noob starts a new thread about a bricked defy: "please help me, my father will kill me if he finds out about my defy", etc, etc. These questions have ben answered 1,000,000 times already, so use the search function before posting!
By the way this thread should be moved to the Q&A section. Moderator will take care of that when it's reported...

What is the most stable ROM with GingerBread+Sense for X8?

What is the most stable ROM with GingerBread+Sense for X8? Or at least, is there a rom with full functions working?
I use Racht's CM7 Roms. It is stable but quite battery drain.
Thanks. Any more choices? Since this one has some major bugs on Camera, FM etc. Also the X8 battery is really weak...

I'm with shpit's ROM, XGin 5.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135343
The camera works only in VGA mode but works
I really don't understand what's wrong whit those threads, i mean, if you look in Development forum there are many Custom Roms topics, every chef gave description of what does and doesn't work in theyr roms, there are people that report back issue and not of that roms, so what i'm asking to myself is:
Is it really necessary to open a thread for "what is the most stable rom?".
Am i wrong here?
I know, this is general forums but it doesn't mean that every new user should post here these no sense threads ( no offence here).
Again, am i wrong? Because sometimes i was told that i'm evil to close some kinds of threads.
I know that new users cannot post in dev section but IMO all these questions have an answer only by reading Rom Threads.
I don't want to be "the evil moderator" since that, if i can, i like to be helpful, say that, i can make a sticky thread for a general vision, pro/cons of every x8 roms but someone need to start and take care of it because i don't have an X8.
let me know.

I really like racht's roms, there are less services running in background than others and is a pretty stable rom. I've been using it for weeks and i had no reboots. About the battery drain question, disable the automatic sinc in the options.
its only my opinion... already tried floyo, miniCM and froyobread....
1) floyo is fast but battery drain very fast..
2) the most stable is miniCM.. all is working and suitable for daily use
3) stable rom with gingerbread look...
try all of em yourself and pick what u like....
I believe I've tried all kind of ROMs: 2.2.1, 2.2.9 (?) and 2.3.4. For me kuyaDROID was the fastest and stable 2.3.4. But all 2.3.4 I have tried consumed my battery at most in a day (also kuya's). One version ate my battery in a half of day. So, for the moment, I decided to come back to 2.2.1 (floyo-0.20) which is the fastest (1000+), stable and battery care (more than two days) for me. An advice: you will see here different opinions for the same ROM - so try all for youself, and make your own opinion. Good luck.

SUBSTITUTE FOR Lite'ning Rom v6.1 WHICH CAN BE FLASHED WITH NO WIPES

People are waiting for an update on Lite'ning Rom v6.1 since a long time but no news from LITEPRO the maker. I really wish that LITEPRO does come up with an awesome update on lite'ning rom asap but atleast there should be an alternative to it.
I would appreciate if people can please come up with their own experiences and share their valuable information on which Rom one can install that can substitute the Lite'ning Rom without any wipes.
Things that we are looking for in another ROM are as similar to the Lite'ning Rom and they are as follows:
1. Lightning fast speed
2. NO BUGS
3. The rom can be installed without any wipes
4. Regular Updates to be made available
5. All the features that lite'ning rom contained.
Looking forward for my XDA family to come up with the best possible solution.

Nothing to do with development either...
I'm too looking for other ROM.... but its to dificult....
Look all the ROM post.....
always has bug and usually has stranges themes with a lot of pictures....
I prefered the stock rom Look and a lite Blue theme.....
If you see the others...... has a lot off updates ... NOT for new base... only for include beta or news modules and packages that late fail and produce BUGS.
I can't remenber more than 5 or 6 bugs... on ROM.....
Please, tell me your next ROM.
I thinking to test :

Exactly, it has nothing to do with development nor contributes anything new other then what is floating around in all of the threads.
Not having a bash but if you wan to know what ROMs are out there to use, simply try them.
Everyone will experience different bugs as people use different add-ons like themes, diallers, kernels etc so a bug for one person isnt for another.
If you like a ROM, read the thread from the OP of that ROM, they generally have a changelog, FAQ's etc in the first few posts that will tell you if its a no wipe etc.
Backup always via CWM to revert back if youre unhappy and honestly, try all the ROM's so you can judge for yourself. If you read the first few pages you generally wont go wrong, espeically with a backup.
Something like a collective Kernel thread etc should be a sticky as that benefits everyone, not this.
I went from litening, to criskelo, cognition, skyrom and now leomar revolution. All no wipe and phones running great but thats with my setup, yours may be different so give it a go.

[ROM] [XXKI3] LeoMar75 Rom Revolution v2.7.1 - Kitchen App
this thread is only been made to get a good solution.......
i know there is no development involved in it but atleast this will help many people who are confused for which rom they should get for their phone. This will surely help many people to take a sensible decision.....
I've noticed that Wi-Fi direct doesn't work fine on lightening 6.1. I hope litepro will fix it. I don't to move to another rom cause I'm quiet satisfied with this one.
why is this in development?
Should be in Q&A.
This thread is pointless, just move on to another rom. It wont kill you to try roms that arent outdated
And the great thing about making a CWM backup (nandroid) is that you can flash new roms to your hearts content and if you don't like it, you can be back up in 2 minutes using restore. I am sure you'll find something you like. For me, I love Batista ROM it has blue themes and much more
Leomar75 rom. really a revolution rom. great in everything.
how is the battery life in this rom LEOMAR??

I used lite'ning rom for months and loved it.
Now using batista 2.1 and loving it just as much, if not more.

I was in the same position as the OP - loved LR but didn't want to get left behind with no updates from LitePro.
I've just moved to CriskleoROM today and after a minor hitch that required a reflash, it's working flawlessly.
Seems super fast.
Can't reliably report on battery life until 2nd or 3rd recharge cycle, but from what I have read it seems to be as good if not better than LR

[Q] Which MIUI is best for Defy MB525 Green Lens?

Hi, I'm a noob here but I have tried a couple of ROMs like CM7, CM9 and WIUI. For me the WIUI looks very good but I don't think it is being updated anymore (pls correct me if I'm wrong). I've seen that MIUI has many variants (WIUI being one of them) so can you kindly tell me which one do you think is the best? And if ever you've tried other roms that are better than MIUI then please feel free to tell me. Thank you.
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
I've been using WIUI (GB) for a while and have tested a bunch of different ROMs CM7, CM9 (with both Froyo and GB kernel, Epsy, Quarx, Maniac, Euroskank, White Rabbit ), MIUI (WIUI, Galnet, Picachu) and I keep coming back to WIUI. It just works for me.
All listed and others are great developers and each brings something different. It just depends on what you need and what's right for you. e.g. If you need your camera without fail, CM9 is not the place to be. If the camera is not important, test out the CM9s and see which one fits you the best.
Don't forget to thank the developers and, if you can, send them a few bucks for the work they do. They pretty much do it on their own time and without compensation.
ive tried almost all available ROMS for DEFY --- but --- Trust me ... from the time i started using PIKACHU ive never been able to go to some other ROM ... u too try it .. its awesome !!

new to the defy.

I'm by no means a rookie when it comes to android. But this phone confuses the hell out of me. I read the all in one defy guide, and it helped. However, I want to run ics, especially with jb having certain features broken that I use. I don't have the phone yet as its in the mail and I'm compiling everything to root and rom.
So my question is, what sbf rom file should I rsd to run cm9? I also have a new defy+ battery coming, would this battery cause the battery % drop thats heavily discussed here.

I've got an actual DEFY+ (MB526) and I've never had battery drops on any ROM's (tested more than 10 ROM's). I've read a lot about people with MB525's who bought DEFY+ battery and only had problems with it... Don't take my word for it, though and I hope it works out for you fine. Problems, like, it wouldn't charge to 100%. Don't know, Gingerbread kernel and a DEFY+ battd should be enough to make it work...should be
SBF ROM is not the way I would suggest, really... Messing with SBF's is not the smartest call.
What have you got? A DEFY on Froyo? Or Eclair? You should update to Froyo and then root using SuperOneClick and install 2ndInit (the installer is in the Themes&Apps subforum) and go ahead and flash any ROM in the custom recovery.
And may I ask what features does JB have broken compared to ICS? WiFi tethering doesn't work on ICS and does on JB, for a contrary example, though.
Cheers, mate! And welcome to the DEFY lot
That actually clarified a lot. Thanks. Not sure what is on the defy yet. Waiting for its arrival. The way you worded the process made this phone easier to understand as its just like every other moto phone out there.

I guess ill be running on the froyo kernel then with any rom i flash, correct? Also what jb rom would you suggest? It was my understanding that video recording didn't work.

"Which ROM is best" type threads are not allowed on XDA because of the controversy and arguments that question inevitably generates. As it seems like your other questions have already been answered, I'm closing this thread to avoid that type of discussion.

Most Stable Android Yet

Hello Friends,
Been here after a long time gap. SO have no idea about new developments etc..
I am using AmeriCanAndroid AOSP HD2 GB2.3.7 CM7.2 at the moment and want to change it now. Have been great but off late has started hanging, auto rebooting etc..
Please advise which is the most stable option I can move on to.
Cheers!
As said before no one can advice a rom to any one you need to try for your self and this is the wrong section for this post there is a Q&A section for that don't hesitate to post any question there or better search before posting as it may happen for someone to ask the same thing your asking.

As he said, search before posting and post in the correct sections. The most stable version may differ from phone to phone, but generally it's CM7 or MIUI GB.

This has been my experience exactly. Did not like CM7 versions, but the MIUI GB ROM has been my go-to ROM for nearly 2 years now. I'm back to it now, after trying out various 4.0 and 4.1 ROMs, and I have to say the MIUI one is smoother and doesn't get buggy and laggy (haven't had any problems in at least 2 months now, which is actually quite a long time based on prior experience with other ROMs).
