[Q] Sim Unlock ? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can the T-Mobile HTC Mytouch 4g be unlocked to used with different carriers with out having to go to those paid for service sites ?
if yes how ?
if not, whats the best recommended site and cheapest .
Thanks in advance.

I am not quite sure what exactly you are saying but yes, you can get it simunlocked and just use a different sim card. Use the search bar next time, ok?

You cannot unlock it for free. You are having such a good model mobile phone and don't risk it with free unlocking services. You can try safe unlocking sites. For example, You can try with www.prounlocking.com this iste provides accurate unlocking codes at affordable cost with step by step guidance on unlocking process.

That totally didn't sound like blatant advertising lol.
Check the stickies in the development section dude, you'll find your free method there. Just remember that it's not always a simple solution and anything you do to your phone is at your own risk. Fortunately instructions around here tend to be very helpful

By the way, you can unlock it for free. Whenever you root it, & flash Engineering bootloader, you can unlock it with gfree, in fact if you follow the guide for Ultimate s-off, it explains all those commands in gfree for locking & unlocking whatever you choose.

So rooting doesn't unlock it? Interesting. I'm thinking about taking mine to Afghanistan, using an Afghan chip in it.

no rooting doesn't SIM unlock the device. You must do that via a ./gfree command.

I've been pretty unhappy with tmobile lately. So I suppose if I have to ask them then so be it, but is there an easier way to do it without calling a guy? Or paying money? I kind of thought rooting it would be the same as unlocking it.

no, if you unlock with T-Mobile, you don't need to pay...just make sure you've been with them for at least 2 months

I think you should just stop and not root your phone just from looking at how you've asked this question twice in the same section as well as in the dev section.
Having a rooted phone doesn't make you cooler or give you special powers no matter what your friends told you, trust me.

Well seeing how I'm 15 and (and starting football and powerlifting camp today) building my own roms and a tester for TeamRoyal it can't be too hard but really to the OP you can't post multiple times, its a good way to get your question dismissed by the community. But to actually answer your question, the easiest would probably be the gfree method which is stickied in the development page.

I agree the same. At least try to keep the thing in only one post.
To root my MyTouch 4G took me over a week, of reading extensive posts here on XDA. Until i got it with the Link that i Posted on your last Discussion.
So every step, from the beginning, slowly. When you see that something is not going right, stop, and tell us Exactly what is happening
And yes, PERMROOT Wont give you special powers to show offf to your friends. Most likely if you do something wrong, say bye to that phone or have ready 100 $ to pay someone to fix it for you.
I just want root to install custom roms. I had a Samsung vibrant before and it was so easy to root.

You people are funny with the whole root giving power thing, but I swear root gave me +100hp and eng hboot gave +100mp extra. But ya rooting is easy and you don't even need a PC. Story behind it...
I lost my HD2 (Leo1024) as it was my first dev-phone so I heavily modded it and few had personal things I never even released to public so now some prick walking around with it. When this happened dual core based phone the LG-Opt2x and Moto-Atrix (dual core) was still 4months behind and I couldn't wait for it so next best thing I got was MT4G (spec wise DHD-US model), so week before I got MT4G I did total run down from known issues with MT4G to root, ect. So I walk in to the TMoStore and the rep try to "sell" me MT4G so I told the guy save yourself some trouble I already know about the device and so we can skip all this BS and wanted to for it direct.
So I told him to open the box so I can verify it was superior display (by then we already knew about inferior SH model). So he started asking other silly questions how hard it was rooting and back then the meth was lil weird as you needed battery pull. Since I lost my phone they verified my account and gave me a new simcard free and provisioned my line on the spot. So I downloaded all the files needed from my phone for TheUnlockr meth to SDCard and rooted it in front of him using TempROOT (VISIONary+) and PermROOT (root.sh).
So what exactly is the easiest way?

Follow the TheUnlockr meth which takes 1min to root using VISIONary+ to obtain TempROOT and when you have it you can get PermROOT by running root.sh script.

Kingo root malware?

So before finding out about this I have already rooted with it and now all of the xda admins are advising not to use this. After a good bit of reading I guess this app has sent www.wmshua.com my imei. It uses their exploit and their patches and makes it seem like they made a root method. This is a deceptive app and I wish I would have never used it. The lest this app developer could have done was change the layout of the program and download all the patches and hosted them himself. Not I fear some conglomerate in China has my imei and will use it at a later date to do a worldwide hack or something. I understand there is no going back so I'll just uninstall the app and hope nothing bad comes from this....

I think that post was before it was questioned that Kingo could contain malware.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
Yea it was. Someone needs to dissect the program, see what info is collected, what is downloaded, and what's transfered to the phone and all that dissected. I don't have hardly any knowledge on how to do this but I'm about to attempt this. I wish I had a whole day and a couple adderall I could dedicate to digging into this.
I'm in no special hurry to root my 9005, so I can happily wait for the next version. Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable than I can take that *.exe apart and so what load it carries, if any.
In any case caution is a virtue...
Enviado desde mi SM-N9005 mediante Tapatalk
The reason manufacturers and carriers do not like rooting is the security issues. It has nothing to do with them trying to prevent tethering or modifications. With that said any root method not developed and hosted on XDA by a known developer should be used with extreme caution. Exploits are not required to have source posted and it takes a great deal of time and effort to reverse them to see what they do.
I would encourage everyone to make their own decisions on this. I'm keeping my Kingo root, as I contacted them and was satisfied with the response I received. I like open source as much as the next guy, but not every piece of software can be open source. That doesn't mean that the application is malware.
DustinKimble said:
The main reason they were shut down here is because they are being so secretive with their methods and "closed source" doesn't exactly go around here expecially not with root methods. Expecially not with root methods originated from china.

The world's espionage leader right now seems to be the US, not China. AT&T users in particular should consider the most recent apying revelation: NYT:cia-is-said-to-pay-att-for-call-data
So what exactly could they do with said information? There's nothing extra running on our phones after using it to root. Plus its not like they didn't actually supply us with a simple root method. I could understand the concern if it didn't work

I have to agree with you. I'm not even remotely worried about it. The program works.
It scares people on here, so maybe not host it on XDA, but Kingo has their own site.

I understand the fear. Its also interesting that they have a root method for many devices. So maybe they have a reason to not be so open. Maybe they've found the mother of exploits and they don't want it to be closed.
Or with all this talk about how they want to keep root free but pay their devs means they are going to use this super exploit to lock devices and charge people to unlock them in order to use it. Idk I'll wait a day or 2 and see what comes of this whether that's a good idea or not idk. Time will tell. Either way I've got designgears' one click stock on my PC just in case.

As far as can be seen the information is grabbed and sent during the rooting process which is why it will not work without an active internet connection. Kingo is working on a revision to remove the data collection.
