Terraria For R800 - Xperia Play General

I was thinking about Porting Terraria For the Xperia Play. If I proceeded to do this, How many of you would play it/donate for it?

I'd play it.

If you do decide to port it, I would consider doing it through the Playstation Suite SDK, that way you have a single app that works across not just the Play, but the PSVita too. Heck, it could be a killer app for the Playstation suite if you did do it!
I say ... yes. It's a great game.

I would play it for sure. It would be really cool if we could have multilayer as well.

Yeah don't own a Vita, nor will I ever. However I might consider doing that, after I take the source code for the Java application (seeing as its coded in C# I have to Decompile it in something like MonoGame and rebuild as a APK) I might put it into Playstation Suite. Definitely something to consider. However right now i'm focusing more on just making it an APK.

Multiplayer will definitely be available.

The PS Suite SDK uses C# as the language of choice. If the game has the source code in that language it should be easier to bring it to the Suite and use the tools that it provides to create the APK.

Id play, maybe drop you a donation when I start work.

Unless you're the original dev of Terraria, I highly doubt you have the rights to perform such a port.

The Devs of Terraria stopped all work on it. There will be no upcoming updates, no thoughts of dlc, nothing. People have made Mac wrappers and Linux Wrappers for it, Why not make an apk.
http://www.terrariaonline.com/ Check it out.
If i'm in the wrong here and someone doesn't want me to even try. I won't do it.
Another thing: I will somehow make it so you have to use the EXE to play the game, meaning you need to buy it to play it.

The touchscreen is part of the Xperia Play controls too, don't forget. People don't mind using it for menus and the like, even though they complain about them on gameplay. The touchscreen may enhance game play as well, and that's up to the Wii U to prove. Keeping touchscreen compatibility in mind would make your port expandable to other platforms as well (non-Suite Android devices, iOS). Just like Minecraft, you could have the game being Suite-exclusive for a while and then expand it to other places.

Would definitely play this. Thought it was too reliant on .net so I never bothered to try. Good luck!

It's definitely very reliant on .net, however mono does very well with this and so far with the work I've done with PSSuite, XNA and .net based things wont be too big of a struggle.

I'd definitely play Terraria too! Please do it!

Good luck converting the XNA mess that is Terraria into Android OpenGL or PSS SDK Graphics Rendering.

Would also play it! Good luck with developing if you do it.

exactly only this will be better 'cause it'll be made by it's users, resulting in endless possibilities.
There is an official version of GH for Win Mobile too. I played only demo, but it was quite good. It of course lacked the option to add custom tracks.

Yeah, that's something that would be avaible in this app, it's the users who choose what tracks the game will contain through requesting them.
And hopefully this version will work for VGA!
I think a Beats-like game (Beats, the PSP game) would have far more potencial. There you have space to inovate, instead of just making a custom guitar hero. Which leads me to the gameplay.. Tapping the notes as they come? :S Hardly "guitar-ish"! Especially not having multitouch...
If you want to brainstorm on what could be a good music game for WM devices, I'm all up to it. If it comes down to something interesting I'll even help coding it, provided someone else does some neat neat graphics

thanks i checked "beats" out and i can't say that i understood much of it, i catched that you tap the psp buttons to hit the "notes" though. didn't look very fun compared to guitar hero or tap tap revenge if u ask me.
but sure, i can "brainstorm" on what could be a good wm music game, if ur not interested in this concept. one of my reasons for this was to annoy my iPhone friend who's playing tap tap revenge.. and to contribute to the community ofc

Beats is similar to Guitar Hero with the change that you don't play just the guitar notes but every major peak in the mp3's channel data. What that means is you can put any mp3 you want and Beats will analyze it and create a game level for you.
Also, you'll probably tap to the rythm of the drums where their the loudest thing, and hop back to guitar if there's a solo... That sort of thing. I don't know tap tap revenge but I'll look into it.
I meant you, yes, if you're good with graphics
Keep in mind I'm a student so I have a tight schedule, I have other projects (one of which I plan to post here given some time) and I'm not familiar with DirectDraw calls. I won't commit right now to make this happen, but I think in time it's possible to work something out if you still need a developer.
Truth is, I'd love to see a good music game for our phones, but can't grasp the spectacular idea behind it on my own right now

Please note this is more alpha testing than beta, the software is in early development phase and we're currently testing the graphics engine on the different devices and resolutions. QVGA is currently well supported (I own one!) but VGA is giving some problems. We have to triage those problems in order to fix them.
W resolutions are not up to date, because they take a little more work. The way we tackle those devices is still not clear. They have a different aspect ratio which makes me (personally) want to just add a bar to the top of the screen

That is awesome! I would pay $30 for this app. Yongzh has said he is working on it for android. He created many of the current emulators, and in my opinion, the best ones. I imagine that like the PSX4droid app he made, not all ROM's will work on it, but even if I could run just a few of my favorite classics. I am thinking GoldenEye, MarioKart 64, Starfox 64, and Zelda.
These emulators, plus an AOSP rom with bluetooth fixed, wiimote controller app. That would really pass time at work, on a plane, in a hotel, on vacation with the inlaws. I can't wait.

ZodTtd, the dev of psx4droid, is in the middle of making one.
A few days ago he posted on twitter saying that he is experiencing a bug where nothing shows up on the screen. I'd imagine once he solves this, a few tweaks will be made then he will probably hand it over to Yong Zhang for him to work his magic (control overlay, settings etc)
This is exactly what happened with psx4droid
Maybe would should start a bounty to help move this along.

-decent fps with no sound
-bluetooth gamepad support
I don't have any java experience, but I have reasonable experience in other programming languages. When I get the time, I may take a look at porting it. If the full source code is available, should be hugely difficult to port. It'll be the optimisation that'll be difficult.

There must be some new api's in ICS that allow him to implement the touchpads without limiting the app version to 2.3
Great news.
Yep. Mupen64plus although still beta needs to be somewhat more unique if it wants to compete now with N64oid :S

Exactly my thoughts on the matter. Devs who actively interact with the community usually do a better job than those who don't. I've seen many disappear after only finishing half of the job. Those were the ones who stayed in the shadows in most cases.

So it'll be restricted to ICS only... while Mugen64PlusAE already has it available to everyone?
Not sure why... but that really pisses me off. I hope paulscode bends yongzh over now Mugen64 isn't limiting this to only ICS, and all that really needs is a UI and a way to load different games to knock N64oid off.
isn't n64oid based on mupen64plus anyways? i thought the only difference what the removal of sdl, a gui and an input plugin.

Mupen64plus-AE and n64oid are both built off of the emulator Mupen64plus. Both mupen64plus-AE and n64oid have slight different features from each other but keep in mind n64oid had been developed for alot longer so thats why it has some more stuff. Also Paul kept Mupen open source so if he ever decides to stop adding to it then any other developer can pick it and and continue where he left off, N64oid is closed source so if yonghz ever stops updating it that means it will never get any more updates ever since hes the only one with the code.

IPA to APK converter, something like the PSXperia tool.
Doesn't work, ipa is iPhone and apk is Android

Spoken by someone who has never written a program in his life.
The logistics of this requires human interaction. Android programs are written in a COMPLETELY different language than iOS programs. While both programming languages can produce the same results, and obviously use the same graphics data and stuff like that, a human programmer must make that conversion as how they get to that end result is completely different.
No developers are working on this. Its a waste of time.
Question: if I remember properly, Android uses a virtual machine, called Dalvik, to run Java code. Could Dalvik actually run Objective C (iOS language) code somehow?

programs that are coded in C run natively they dont run in a VM like android apps. Thats why its possible to use android apps on other platforms (providing they have the dalvik VM) like the blackberry playbook but you couldn't do that the other way around.

No its not just a Java VM and actually works quite differently than a normal Java VM. A regular Java VM works almost like an Emulator within the device running it. The Dalvik VM actually takes the program and uses its own class libraries, it converts some of the java files when its compiled into its own format. This saves space and memory usage, due to the programs obviously needing to be run on devices with limited memory.
The Android SDK also has an ungodly huge amount of libraries within it as well withe specific code design to do basically anything.
have an idea ask Google to try and create android to read IPA or other formats then android will be the best as developers will want to create games, apps and other things and make life easier for everyone as it will be like this in left hand iphone in right hand Samsung galaxy s2 really good android phone which will you pick me i would go for the Samsung as it's better as i have one but if it could run IPA. Iphone will probably unexistant just saying but it's best to ask google. for more easier methods to create games and apps just like ipa is really easy to create apps
