Wm marketplace died! - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Sorry to tell you guys, but I just got mailed by windows phone saying that the Marketplace for windows mobile devices in going down.
Well I guess it was the time...

what a pity!

So what? Did you get a lot of stuff from there while it was alive?
All WM programs are pretty available in internet. I am not including marketplace in my 6.5.3 roms for more than a year already......

Can we flash WM6.5 on this device?

the hardware is pretty similar with HD2, I wonder if we can flash HD2 ROM on this device. I like the hardware of Nexus One but missing the WM6.5. I will try to flash it when it is received tomorrow.
i have a better question... why would you want to?
Seriously, just buy an HD2 if you have such a WinMo boner
Are you kidding us? WM doesn't exist...
If you try Android you will never go back to WM..
yeah... gonna dump my fuze.. maybe sell it for $100 and get outta ATT..
buy the phone outright, and jump on the $59 plan they got (or maybe make up a different one - i'm not much of a texter), then add on the work discount.. cheaper than paying $180 for it and being stuck w/ the $80/mo plan.
I'm done with winmo after playing with my parents android phones
HD2 cost $670 +shipping, but if I flash the Nexus one, it only costs $562. it's a better choice than buy a HD2.

I like some games that can be played under WM, and other Apps that does not exist for Android.
Yeah! Bubble breaker FTW!!!!
I wonder if there was stable android ported for my SE X1 Xperia and you want WM on this g0dlike device

Then buy a netbook.. Are you looking for a phone or for a computer?
I repeat: if you use Android you will never go back to WM.
I couldn't even pick up the phone with WM.. It would just freeze..
is this a joke?
The 4 real mobile OS this generation are OS X Mobile, Android, Blackberry, and to some extent, Symbian... Winmo is not even an OS anymore it's pieces of junk getting stitched together like Frankenstein
Yay for developing honeycomb style apps screen for the past 2 years

I have one new X1 in box here, but I'm done with Windows Mobile so I guess it will stay there until miracles happen.

Well there is a device called Sunno, supposed to have both WM&android - dual boot, similar to your desktop's dual boot. So it's possible then?I think it would be beneficial for these devices to have changeable os. Monday - android, tuesday - winmo. About stupidity - I don't like android (hero that is) - so I'm stupid then??
Biased people.. Android fans start to sound like iPhone groupies. All think Android is a new killer OS, ever owned a GOOD WM device? "whats new? what is all the fuss about?" What can you do now that is sooooo different from what I could do 3/5 years ago with Winmo? The only good thing in the nexus? The snapdragon used in WM HD2..
this android is just stupid program. Got it today.
can not download applications from Android market. it just say "starting download", but never start.
I try to download from windows XP, and copy to SD card, but
it even does not have file explore. it's no way to find and run the installation.
what a trash program!!!!

I don't think Androids the problem here, I think it's your brain.
If you're not trolling, then this device was not made for you.

WP7S on N1?

Will there be any Windows Phone 7 Series for the Nexus one?
Would be nice to test the new OS on a phone. Hope some of XDA's talented developers would look in to this when the time is right
one word: no.

I hope someone pulls through and does it, althought we are short one hardware key to match up the win7 requirements.
I don't really see it being an issue getting on here, alot of the hardware will be on other phones so drivers should be around.

Yes Winmo sucks, but I hope the new 7 series will do something with this, and if it becomes a good mobile OS i don't want to buy a new phone.. I love my N1 and i think it could be fun to play with.
As far as becoming a good mobile OS, it's not off to a good start. No multitasking, no copy/paste, and today I saw someone say that Microsoft has disallowed development of applications that rival native applications. Seriously, are they retarded? Those are some of the worst things people complained about with the iphone.

When I had a winmo device I was using the Haret method to run Android on It because I hated winmo and I always will...
Maybe you should sell your htc Magic and get the htc HD1.

Because It's better than the total rubbish that is android, thats why. I also want Winmo on my mt3g. I can't stand Android, but I can't afford a new phone.
In that case, I'd try your local Craigslist to see if anyone is willing to trade you.

are you serious? windows mobile is garbage..
windows as a PC operating system is the best. windows 7 is amazing.
but windows MOBILE? GARBAGE...they even tried to make windows mobile 7 more like android os,iphone os,maemo os, etc.. and they failed miserably.

So HTC, how about that 6.5.3 upgrade?

Mere hours after the next version of android was announced HTC made a statement saying the update will be available for most of their android handsets. In stark contrast, even though WM 6.5.3 was made official months ago (February) HTC has been completely silent on whether an upgrade will be offered for devices like the HD2.
OK, so I understand android is the "cool" thing and everyone wants to give their personal data to google and its pals, but at least come out and say what you intend to do, if you are dropping WM fine, thanks very much, if not, why not announce it or at least say its coming?
Just cant fathom, WM, especially on the HD2, is still a good OS, why has seemingly everyone fallen into the "apps is the only thing that matters" mindset and condemn WM because it doesnt have a million trillion fart or beer application?

Exactly.... they would probably have to pay more licensing fees and make a new contract with MS for an official upgrade. /what does it matter, anyways... we have plenty of good 6.5.3 roms here at xda.

but the feeling of stock is always better ,as all stuff is there no thing is deleated
MS actually said 6.5.3 willl be available to OEM's at no extra cost and personally I have not found a cooked rom without bugs I could live with so I would prefer an official 6.5.3 upgrade.
Unfortunately, the HD2 will not be getting a 6.5.3 update:
Dear Amr, Thank you for contacting us. In regards to your query, Unfortunately, at this time HTC and Microsoft do not have plans to offer Windows Phone 7 or 6.5.3 upgrades to any existing HTC phones. HTC is working closely with Microsoft to bring Windows Phone 7 to market later this year. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Thank you for contacting HTC. Kind regards, Federico F. HTC

Yeah, and that makes me angry somehow... I remember the "customer care" of wicked SE (concerning updates) from my X1 - that was horrible. Then I moved over to HTC and believed that they were better... maybe they'll still surprise me in a positive way...

Ok about custom ROM but you loses the warranty, and also can't complain if anything happens with custom rom...
We are having a xda-developers forum and a lot of different ROM on this forum, so f&$*& MS... just be happy

only true if you send it back with hspl still installed. the rom is un important.(well maybe they'd complain if you sent it back with wp7 hehe)
and since hspl can be removed right after you flash, the warranty is only void for fifteen minutes.
hi, hum, what about that :
HTC release Windows Mobile 6.5.3 HTC HD2 in China
I'd like 6.5.3 but I'd prefer it if HTC would fix the bugs my phone came with, and put the fixes they have released in a ROM. I'm out of memory after the last 15Mb update; and messaging still doesn't work (nor Exchange, nor Stocks, and something eats internal storage.) Custom ROMs are no good for business phones.
I won't but HTC again. I feel let down.
what does 6.5.3 offer over 6.5, i honestly dont have a clue.......

It is more finger friendly.
It can be quite awkward to select some items when you get away from HTC Sense, because you can't use a pen or fingernail on a capacitive screen.

Soooo any updates on WP7 for HD2

Soo yeah, It was on the main page recently that a build of windows phone 7 would soon be released for HD2. I know I'm begging for a good flaming for this but is there anywhere I can find an update on the status of this project? I know its a locked down OS and blah blah blah but I use the HD2 as my business phone and would like it to have a more business appeal to it. Does amnyone have an idea on the status of this project?

WM7 will come , but like chefs told its just a demo. i dont think its will for a daily use. Android is enough .
i just don't get it. can't the device handle the os?
I think it comes down to if the team is willing to crack the OS so everything works. Last I heard, the thing thats holding back release and making the OS usable would be Windows Genuine Phone. It prevents non-genuine versions of windows phone to work properly. Without live tiles and access to apps, the usefulness of windows phones is non-existent.

of course it can, its just the fact that porting a complete OS is a massively complex task that us mere mortals can barely even comprehend.....
the devs need time and for others to be patient....
Well I'm gonna patiently wait. Android is helping bide the time, but I'm ready for some new microsoft goodies.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

You can read how well all is going on Windows Phone 7 section.
