Recompiling framework-res.apk - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

I'm trying to modify framework-res.apk and I am able to decompile it. I modified styles.xml and colors.xml. My problem is that I can't compile it back. I'm getting a lot of errors when I try to. I'm using the latest version of apk multi-tool. I'll post the logs later because I'm on phone right now, but anyone has any idea of what might be causing the problem? Any help is appreciated.

umm...I always failed when using stock framework-res.apk. after that I try to copy the same framework-res.apk to c:users/<username>/apktool/framework/ then rename it to 1.apk. I don't know why, but it works.
@evanlocked: I thought both apk manager and apktool are actually same program. the difference is only on its interface. IMO it doesn't matter which one did everyone choose.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was able to compile it successfully with apk manager. Now my problem is that I can't push it via adb. Says no devices found, although when not in recovery it works fine enough. Any ideas or alternative methods to push framework-res?
Tapatalked.

Make a update script and flash it.
I always use to flash it
& it works awesome

thanks for the thread and the posts you all made, i have been searching for a thread like this for 2days. going to try apk-manager now and the renaming framework-res.apk to 1.apk.

Im using APK Tool and no prob. at all when de/re-compile .apk
The question is...
Why after recompile the signed/unsigned .apk the size always smaller than the original .apk? Is that normal? Tho even smaller its installable and work

[Q] Can someone mod a rom for me? please :)

can anyone mod a ACS rom for me so it can say "Stevie" in the lock screen and notification bar? instead of acs

bump.......
there's a couple problems with this. What theme are you using. If your using a theme your gonna have to contact that dev and ask him. If your just using the rom I'm the man to talk to.
if I do this for you then others are going to want it done then it will be time consuming. And I won't be able to work in my other projects. However I wrote a how-to on changing the sprint branding. You can always follow those instructions.
If I have some free time I may try to fit this in.

you need to give the thread some time so people can see it. If no response in 24 hours then bump it. Not in the same time or in a matter of minutes. We don't live on the internet

I either suggest trying it your self or wait to see if I have time to do it

i tried it the other day but i messed up and i think i would rather wait for whenever you have time to mod it im in no rush i just thought it would be cool
just keep trying until you get it to work, you will feel awesome and you may learn a thing or two about android. there are a pretty limited number of ways to mess up such a small change so just do a little reading and you'll figure it out.

+1 to this. I recently started using a theme that I wanted tweaked in one little way. I posted something in the thread and got no response and so started screwing around with it myself. It took a while (and multiple screw ups) but I eventually got it to do what I wanted. However, I learned a ton in the process that made me come up with new and improved ways I might screw up... I mean improve... my phone.
By the way, I think the key to doing this with confidence is doing a full "nandroid" backup (i.e. a backup in clockwork). As long as you do this before messing with anything on the phone, you can pretty much always restore the backup and be right where you were. I got myself stuck a couple times and this saved me.

When I'm working on mods I zip up the files I edited so I can flash and test the mod. I also create a 2nd zip with the same files but un modified. So if the modified zip breaks things I flash the un modified zip

Strings.xml after you decompile framework-res.apk zz_roaming text you'll see it probably says acs already. Pull the framework res.apk decompile in apk manager, then navigate to projects/framework-res.apk/res/values/strings.xml. Scroll down towards the bottom and search for zz_roaming_. Note in apk manager when you recompile and it asks is this a system app choose y. Then it asks to preserve signature as well as files choose yes thenin apk manager you'll now have a keep folder. Delete the file named resources.arsc and then goto place here for modding folder. You'll see unsigned-framework-res.apk in there rename that to framework-res.

Just push the framework-res.apk file... installation aborted is a problem with your updater-script

Either push it using adb or root explorer. Or use update script from another theme but leaving the file structure the same

Turn usb debugging on in settings applications development. Hook your usb cable open a command prompt and in the terminal cd to the directory with the modded framework and type adb push framework-res.apk system/framework/ and then hit enter. This requires you have the android sdk installed and the tools in your path if u you have trouble with that then get a theme that works on your rom open the theme with a zip program and delete everything inside the system folder except the folder framework. Next open the framework folder and delete both framework-res.apk and twframework.apk. Next drag and drop your framework-res.apk into that framework folder close the zip and flash

You can't install the APK. Use Root Explorer to copy and overwrite the current one camera.apk in /system/app

I'm afraid it will not install if you`re running a custom rom, since it`s an Acer`s stock rom system app...
so no other way?
Only chposing a rom that already have clearfi?
If yes; tx for ur help

I am not sure, I can be wrong, but I suppose so...
Not sure if it could be solved editing the build.prop file...
I'm on Thor and it shows up in the market..

Most problems on custom rom is that if they delete the clearfi app they also delete the permission.
System/etc/permission, there should be a clearfi. XML file.
If that file is missing clearfi won't work, solution is restoring that file and then putting the clearfi app in system/app and reboot.

Chances are that you havent loaded the correct framework
If it is a touchwiz rom (based on stock rom) you also need to load tw-framework using the if command
Also some roms are compiled with framework of a higher version than the rom eg compiled with jellybean framework so load that framework-res instead eg from cm10
But the chances are its because you didnt also load the tw framework from the rom
Also please note that questions should be posted in the question and answe section

Learn how to decompile apks yourself
It's easier doing it on a pc but can also be done on a phone if you don't have a pc

For phone guide Google search apktool mobile (you need armv6 version)

No - much better to learn how to do it yourself else how are you going to mod it & recompile it or do anything else in the future
If you can't decompile it you are most likely using the wrong framework-res.apk - use framework-res.apk from cm10
Without screenshot of your cmd window I can't see how you are trying to do it
Full guide in my signature - Just use correct framework-res.apk - note just because it's a Gingerbread rom doesn't mean it was built with Gingerbread framework - so if it doesn't decompile use cm10 framework

[REQUEST] Smaller Navbar

Anyone know of a working smaller navbar mod (not using xposed) that works on MHC19I ? or able to point me in the direction of guide that allows me to attempt to make one myself ?
Looking to stay stock+rooted, rather than a custom rom.
TIA
EDIT - I've modified framework-res.apk for MHC19I - Grab it here. Mod changes navbar to 24 instead of 48 height.
* Backup your original /system/framework-res.apk and replace it with the download.
I'd recommend to flash resurrection remix rom where you can set the navbar to 24dp.

So I've decompiled and made the edit, recompiled and signed the apk, pushed it to my device and replaced the original.. but now it just sits on the bootup logo animination and I cant get past that stage.
Hopefully you have a backup that you can restore. If not, push the stock framework via adb
