Overcharged! Check your att bill. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

My GT_N7000 is on att in the USA. Over the past month, I have purchased several apps in Play (formerly Market) and had them billed to my att account. Today, while looking over my most recent att bill, I noticed that I was billed 3 times for each of 3 apps purchased. Anyone who has purchased an app from Play knows that the purchase button disappears once you purchase, making a re-purchase impossible!
The overcharges correspond to a problem I had in Play around March 10-14 when Play was not downloading the purchased app properly. After a 5 minute wait to download, it would start and then I would get multiple purchase emails, all with the same order number.
Today, I called att and they credited my account with no argument. $24.80 credit!
I would strongly advise all att customers to review their bills carefully.
MODS: I didn't know where to place this thread. The Note connection is because I currently have a Note. I also remember several posts about Play not downloading properly around the same time as my problem.

Thanks for the heads up, I have ATT also, although I don't bill to my account that much.

Thanks for the heads-up, but an app costs what? $1-$5. Hardly worth the trouble reviewing and complaining...

I have my apps charged to my CC. That way if there's any problems, CC company will fix it.

What? If you had an app that cost $3 and you get charged three times for it that can add up, plus any other apps you bought that cycle. I mean, maybe you are just so rich and everything it doesn't matter to you, but if you are on a budget, it matters. Plus, the carriers need to get it right.

Took 2 minutes to review bill and id problem, and about 5 minutes on call with att. I saved about $25 for under 10 minutes. That's over $150 per hour. As a business owner, that savings over a year adds up. Last year I got nearly $700 refunded from overcharges found reviewing my att bills. Those savings bought my GT-N7000. I think that is significant and well worth the small time investment.

Holy duck! $700 in over charges! I don't know if I'd stay with an operator that was so obviously trying to fleece me or has such a lousy billing system.

Agreed! Admittedly, most of that was refunded due to bundled DSL which ran slower than plan purchased. At&t will always give you back more to compensate for "your time" if you catch their errors.
Gonna bail from att when my plan is up in december.

ATT will nickel and dime you at every turn. Sometimes I think their system is just so crappy its not their fault. I check my bill every month and can say I've saved a couple $100 myself.

Transferring Upgrades???

Im not due for an upgrade on my line until May. I want the Epic 4G Touch now though, im tired of my EVO 4G. My mom has a full upgrade on her line that she will let me use to get a phone. Will we be able to purchase a Epic with the discounts and contract extension on her line, and simply change the numbers? Thanks.
Give them a call and see, seems like something that would be possible.
I've done that before, you used to have to wait x amount of days before you could or they would charge you for the full price, but last time I did it for the evo it worked like a charm. Buy it then change it online
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I've done that many times, with all 4 of my lines in my family plan. If you're not sharing a plan it won't work. Doing that is how I got my evo. If they ask why just tell them the Epic Touch is too big for her.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I did it in store at a best buy.
Sprint store told me I would lose the mail in rebate if I didn't keep the phone on the original line for 30 days or something, but best buy has no rebate, and didnt care, just did it.

I'll bite. What happens tonight?
That should be no problem. Just call telesales and ask to have upgrade shipped cold. Then when you receive the phone call care to swap it with whatever phone # you like. I place orders like that for my customers every day. As long as you don't turn over your entire account in a rolling 2 year period you'll always have an upgrade available. the only thing I can't verify is whether that impacts your rebate, as my customers are all corp and gov't accounts and don't get mail in rebates.
Edit: technically sprint policy is the exact opposite of what I just wrote; upgrades have to be used for the line on which they were ordered. But it just has never really been enforced. So don't go holding me liable if you don't get your rebate or whatever else happens. I don't know if any other wireless providers enforce a policy like that, but it seems to me like it's a losing proposition. At the end of the day customers are going to swap out their phones however they want to, it's too hard to enforce, and the customer's perception is that it's unfair to go around policing things like that.

Well thats the thing, we're on 2 different lines, on 2 different ACCOUNTS. But would the discounts hold up? I Guess not, NOOOOO!!!!!!! lol
why dont u just have her upgrade her phone to which ever phone you want, and simply swap phones online or at the sprint store. so in the end she keeps her phone, and u get the upgrade, but like it was mentioned before, u will lose the mail-in-rebate, unless u buy the phone at best buy.
Thats my point. So I guess I should go and get it at Best Buy?
Sounds like the best bet, I've never bought a phone from them, so I don't know if they are capable of transferring numbers tho, anyone else know if best buy can swap phones?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Recently attempted to swap phones on 2 different service plans, I was gonna use my mother in laws phone to upgrade my kids line. The in store rep said she would have to keep the phone for at least 30 days, or she would be charged full price.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I did this at Best Buy as well, used the upgrade on my Mom's line to get my Evo last spring. No extra charges, no waiting, they just transfer it for you.
I used my wife's upgrade the last two times to go from my Hero to the EVO4G and then to the EVO 3D. I did all of them at Wal-Mart. The guy in the electronics department did everything for me.
So best buy would be the best bet? Even if the upgrade is on a total different account? I just dont want to lose the discount on the phone!

yes exactly bakaneko. this is a glitch in the rogers system. but they have to honour it
It says you get a further credit if you activate a 3 year plan that costs $45 per month or more.
Otherwise the plan free phone alone is $309 + tax.

They definitely do NOT have to honor it. This happens all the time on Red Flag Deals. Someone posts a price error or system glitch, a hundred people jump on it and place orders, a hundred people get cancellation emails a day later.
I'll eat my hat if any actually receives one of these for that price.
Let's not tell anyone on the RFD forums then

I just order one myself and it says phone on 1 line with 309$ as the price and there was no amount beside the bonus line where you would usually have 500$ rebate applied against the 650$ if you took a 3 year agreement.
Moreover, I never had to fill a complete subscription form. So it's a pay and go price. Now I will only need to unlock this phone to sell it!

I just left Sprint and came to T-Mobile and got the GS4. Sprint sucks. Spent 6 years dealing with their horrible data speeds on a smartphone. Not anymore! T-Mobile is a big improvement. Not sure if this Jump! program is a good idea for those who buy all the newest phones and then sell them on craigslist towards the new one. Doesn't seem like it saves you very much since you have to turn in the phone you currently have.
Well, if you do the math.....$99 down and $20/mo for 6/mo, and $10/mo for the Jump program, thats $279. $579-279 is $300. Yes, you could get more on craigslist if you wanted, but its better than most of the other trade in programs, and its very convenient. And that extra $10 includes insurance/theft protection.
So right now, I got the S4 in May and of course I have to pay it off. If I enroll in the program I don't have to pay it off anymore or what?

Yes... But I read you have to wait 6 months before the first upgrade. The payoff disappears, trade in your current phone, and buy at new customer price... With the monthly financing of course.

The question is: when does if start? It officially starts July 14, so does it apply only to new purchases after that? Or will they let you do it retroactive to a certain date. Also you have to have the insurance plan already, which I believe must be put on at the time of purchase of the phone.
I just read on T-Mobile's site: " JUMP must be added within 14 days of qualified device purchase."
Does this mean we are screwed if we got our S4 before July 1st? The program starts on the 14th.

I watched the full press conference and had some of the same questions you guys do. One of the things they said was that there would be a limited time opportunity for existing customers to sign up, but there were no further details given. So I decided to ask. The first person through customer service chat hadnt even heard of it yet so I asked in the forums. The only answer I got there was someone saying it was for all simple choice customers. But if you go here to the Jump info page toward the bottom of the page it says "Already a T-Mobile customer?" and has a link. When you click that link it takes you to your log on. After logging in it takes you back to that info page with the July 14th date. If it wasnt for existing customers I dont see why that would be on the "Jump" page.
Heres how I think it works as far as existing customers. When it starts on July 14th there will be a limited time window for existing simple choice customers that already have the insurance to be able to change their existing PHP insurance to "Jump". Since I am still within my 14 day period I made sure I added the insurance just to make sure I qualified. We will know soon enough, but my guess is that it will be available to us for a limited time, and only if we already have the standard insurance they offer now.

It replaces your existing insurance. So if your paying the 7.99 now its only $2 more to replace it with Jump. This covers basically everything that could break your phone, theft, loss, and adds the ability to upgrade up to twice a year. I just tweeted John Legere the CEO and asked about current customers. Ill update this if he answers.

This is true. But for me I'd rather sell on Craigslist and get a little bit more for it which I can use the difference, after paying off my eip, to put down on a new phone. Plus the $2 a month I'm saving not going with the program and doing the regular $7.99 insurance instead. But that's just me.

I am definitely signing up for this. I'm already paying for a phone and the monthly premium insurance. Knock out 10 bucks off my bill aaaand get a new device every 6 months....
Wait, they will giving me a discount on what I already pay......Dude I'm totally in.
Actually you pay 10$ a month, it does include that total insurance program though...the caveat is that you still pay the down payment (say 99$ down plus taxes on a S4) PLUS the EIP of 20$ a month....is it worth the every six months upgrade? Maybe.
I have five phone lines and two upgrades available (plus I just upgraded in May)....not worth it in certain situations...
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2
I thought T-Mobile was making things much more simple and straight forward with the financing for the phone. Now they've added this new option that just adds another complex layer, making it harder to compare plans from carrier to carrier.
I'm not saying it's bad, it just adds another variable to consider.
One more thing....
You have to turn in your current device (I'm assuming the one on the line you're upgrading) as well.

Are you sure it was free? There is a program called next where the sales tax is charged at point of sale and then an installment plan is added for 20 months...
There is also a bug right now at Corp stores where sometimes sales tax is not charged on a transaction...
I'm a great salesman and part of being one is knowing every deal and offer... that's the only way I know where the note would be free.
Don't get me wrong I love the next program but this sounds like possible bait and switch...
If this happened to you, you will notice a 35 dollar increase in you bill and a lack of the standard upgrade fee.
Trust me, I am a retail sales person at a Corp store. It sounds like they signed you up for next which is an installment plan that raises bill. It gives a one year upgrade option but it should only be sold to someone that wants it.

I called AT&T, instead of the insurance company. First time (headphone jack), the rep said it was still under AT&T's warranty. Second time (water damage), the rep said it would be a pain to go through the insurance company & they could replace it , but would have to charge the deductible. I asked could he waive it. He checked with the manager & he ok'd it, even sent the replacement overnight.

That makes more sense. I've never had an issue getting a phone replaced within a year from AT&T, some had physical damage to the housing. Water damage would be pretty iffy, but as long as you have documentation, I don't see how they can charge you. I've never paid for insurance, so I don't have experience with that process.
This thread has run its course. Clerical and pricing errors don't happen every day, congrats OP on a legit free device.
