[Q] Vega Display not working - Vega General

I've just bought a 2nd had vega off ebay and it switches on and runs everything (including the touchscreen) however there is no display, the screen just remains black.
I know that everything else works because I connected it to my telly with HDMI and I can control my device looking at the tv (its not easy)
I've reset the tablet back to stock rom etc but still the screen remains black
Is this a duff device or does anyone know a simple way that may fix this?
Thank you in anticipation

If you also don't see Android's and Manufacturer's logo shown when booting up your tablet then I would say that it's dead and need to be returned.
If you have trouble rebooting it, press and hold power button for 9 seconds. It should be completely turned off now. Then hold the power button for 2-3 seconds in order to boot it up. Company logos should be shown now.

Hi thanks for your help. Vega now fixed. I took off the back and reseated the connector and hey presto it now works.

Glad you fixed it yourself!
It just shows that the build quality of Advent Vega and its clones is really low.

Touch HD No Display

Noob here, I've searched but no joy on this one...
My Touch HD has just developed a foult where the screen is dead. Nothing happens when I switch it on but the device works...when I connect it to my PC it syncs happily and it rings in.
Which suggests it's hardware...EXECPT
I CAN get the screen to switch on by forcing a power down (hold the power button until the warning appears), if I then cancel this, the screen functions quite happily and will even go in and out of standby until it switches off...
I have tried a Hard Reset (Clear Storage method) but it is still the same.
If I try and flash the ROM, it switches the phone off and the programme fails.
It does occasionally pop up with a Microp error but not every time...
Help, please?
TIA
I developed a similar error today. The phone has worked just fine before.
The screen operates just fine while it's lit up, and when booting it works without a problem. However, if I turn off the screen or if it turns itself off, I can hardly get it on again. The power button itself works just fine since I can use the device blindly while the screen is off (but should be on). So I could launch programs blindly by tapping the screen accordingly. To clarify, the two states are:
1. Screen sleep | Screen is off | Device doesn't respond to touch
Push power button
2. Screen awake | Screen is off(!) | Device responds to touch
What the hell is that all about? In order to get the screen lit up when I wake it up, I need to push the power button perhaps 10 times before the screen actually lits up.
Any ideas?

Fixed by Warranty Repair. Replaced one of the boards inside. All OK now
Damnit, my warranty period is out.
Do you know more in detail what they changed?

Vega Won't turn on at all. Not even backlight

Just bought my Advent Vega today and was all running fine. Charged it too 100% then turned off and booted into the stock recovery. I then waited for it to show up on the computer as i have already got the drivers installed as i have jjust today flashed someone elses vega on the computer. mine didnt show up and then unplugged it and now it wont turn on at all. Tried charging it and then try booting. Unplug charger nothing. The thing is that the charging light still shows.
Any Help would be great. Dont want to have to send it back for repair. it may take weeks.
Thanks
Alex
Hmmm.... it could be a faulty unit, but my guess would be that you need to try at least 10x to try to turn it on.
I know some people complained that the buttons are very poorly designed and sometimes don't even work.
It's the same for my tablet, the "power/home" button doesn't always work like it should.
Once, I had to retry five times in order to power on the device.
If it's not that it could be some other minor issue, try holding the power button for a long time (8 sec), or try to go into recovery again, or something like that.
a sighn its trying to boot is the blue led under the camera tilt the vega away from you and look at the edge of the LCD it will glow when powering on
have you tried push back button, hold it, then press power button 2 second, the release the power button while still pressing the back button? it should be recognized and can be flashed

Some times this can take several attempts.. and i mean several!
I actually had Audi running and had it connected to the pc so could tell if it had worked or not... not the correct way i know but it worked for me.
Interested to know if you ever got this sorted alcurtis93? I'm having the same issue with a vega where it won't even bring up the backlight. No life in it whatsoever.
A bit of a late reply, but try to wipe your device and maybe even flash a newer custom rom

[Q] Strange, won't power on...

Well... Last month I installed VegaComb 3.2 9b3 on my Advent Vega.
It fixed my WiFi problem (yay!) but sound was so ****ty I switched to my wildfire for music.
But that's not it.
A week ago, I tried to turn it on but the only thing that would happen was that it's screen would flash half a second then turn off. I waited and after a couple seconds not touching it, it turned on normal, saying it had 90% battery (and it did have it).
So I discarded the behavior as a glitch.
But two days ago I tried to turn it on again and it happened again. This time it doesn't power up, and when I connect it, the battery charging pilot flashes for a couple minutes then goes off (battery full).
So it won't start. I press the button, screen turns on, then flashes light, then turns off.
I've tried opening it to see if there was any PCB damage (I know how to do it, I didn't break anything, and it was the first time I've opened this one.) but it seemed OK as far as my circuit ability can tell.
So, any help for a desperate Vega user? Thanks!
Hmm... by your exact description of the problem I would say it's a faulty unit.
Some computer components gradually become faulty.
But I don't have VegaComb installed and if other VegaComb users have same problems then it might be a software issue.
And if it is a software issue, can you reflash it?
I just came back home (I was on a trip) and tried to nvflash it to no avail.
Won't power up It only has 6 months, can't be faulty! >_< (or at least I hope so)
Hi, ou says nvflash work but tab dont boot or cant flash?
have you trie the fix for" stuck on boot back screen" ( you can do it only if adb work well).
I have this bug once and after this ( i keep it on POV web site support ) work like a charm. hope this help .
I have tried everything. Now it won't even charge.
*sight* I have the first broken VEga, yay!

SOLVEDDDDD!!!!
And I consider myself a computer-savvy guy? T_T
The tablet was (is) ok! It's the power supply adapter that broke.
The Vega was just out of battery!! >_<
A month and a half without tablet because of THIS!

[Q] (Edited) Okay, so its not in APX Mode? Would like help recovering data

Hello, first let me apologize for making another thread on a possibly bricked tablet. Also I apologize if I didn't post this in the right place, being new and all. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to look at this.
My situation:
My tablet has been working fine until last night; it's been dropped once before from a substantial height (over 5 feet), and luckily only my screen cracked, which I replaced. This time however it fell about 2-3 feet from my bed, most likely landed on the power button side, and now it won't turn on.
The Power Light comes on
It vibrates
The backlight does NOT come on. No words. No logos. Nothing.
I tried plugging it into my computer but nothing happens. It's not rooted (as far as I know), and I don't think I had debugging on. It had Android 3.2.1 on it I believe; my computer is Win 7 64.
Edit: I was able to get another computer to recognize it, a Win 7 and 8. They both have it pop up as "Acer ICONIA TAB A500" and as a portable media device, but when I open it it says its Empty... no folders, nothing.
At this point I would just like to know if there is anyway to get the personal data off of it, there are a few documents that I had not backed up yet that I would really like, that were not on my external SD card. If its possible to get it working again that would be great too, but I've come to terms with the fact it might never. (I'm half tempted to strip it to the screen again and put it back, just to see if that might make it work...)
Edit 2 (sorry if anything sounds confusing): I don't know if this is helpful or not, but the tablet "sounds" like it goes to my lock screen (powers up, vibrates, wait a minute or two and then really softly vibrates again), although I still can't see anything. The power light then goes out, but if I put my ear to the open back I can "hear" it working. If I leave it alone and plugged in, the power light will flash from orange to white every couple of minutes (it will also do this unplugged). Also if I press the power button it will turn white, acting like its sleeping and I've woken it (this occurs whether plugged in or not), but I still have a black screen. Does this mean it might not be dead?
Can the screen be broken with no visible cracks or damage inside?
Another note, when I replaced my cracked screen when it fell those 5 feet about a year ago, I never changed the green piece (which I am assuming is the touch screen controller?) with the new one that came with the new screen+digitizer. Could that be acting up now?
I'll try and see if I can get my hands on a micro HDMI to test and see if it will show up on my TV/Computer. It should just be plug and go right? No setting that needs to be turned on?
Any help is greatly appreciated, and thank you for your time.

Shield won't start

Hello everyone!
I was using the Shield (pro model, 500gb) and suddenly it won't respond to the remote control. I turned the Shild off and then tried to turn it on, but it won't. When I try to turn it on the shield button turns green but only for 1 second and then turns off. Nothing is displayed on the TV. I have tried many times turning on the Shield and it only turns green the button for one second and then turns off.
I have tried the instructions provided here, but to no avail: http://support-shield.nvidia.com/android-tv-user-guide/index.htm#t=Reset_SHIELD.htm
Has anyone encontered this issue and resolved it? Don't know how to recover my device now
Thanks a lot for your help!
Best regards,
David.

Im not a expert in this sphere, but according your written the power button on Shield not lights and this happened without your interfering, my guessing and opinion sounds like you have hardware problem, this symptoms not sounds like software. Try this one and or not I would go sending back by warranty!

I have a pro (500gb) model. Thanks, I'm going to try this and report back my findings.
Thanks!
Hello again!
I tried what is mentioned on the video but it does not enter into bootloader. The video mentions to press the nvidia button two times and in the first time the green light keeps on. In my case, when I press the first time, even if I keep pressing, the green light just turns on for 1 second and goes off. The second time it is the same, and actually nothing happens
Anyone has encountered this issue?
thanks!
Did you manage to eventually get this sorted?
I have an almost identical problem; the remote for my SATV Pro stopped responding, mid-session, one day.
I had to pull the plug and it would no longer boot, thereafter.
The light will stay on indefinitely, it seems - I left it on overnight to test.
It won't enter the bootloader menu, either; if I hold the power button for 6 seconds, the light switches off and I can still hear the harddrive.
when trying the push button method do not forget, the USB and HDMI should be plugged to each device before start. me I just press for start then I instantly press again and hold, works well .
Did you figure out what happened and if there is a fix for this? My Nvidia Shield Pro is having the exact issue and unfortunately my unit is a month over the warranty period =(.
Same light flash for a second after power, but nothing after. I'm thinking it must be a hardware issue, but how to troubleshoot it? Wish an nVidia engineer would help out.
My 2015 Shield 16GB went dark today and I have the LED on for 6-10 seconds after replugging, and then it shuts itself off. I only see the green Shield logo for few seconds. Tried going into bootloader, but there it too shuts down after few seconds...
same her mine just gave up.
Was Shield Experience 8.2.1 recently released or am I just seeing it now for some reason? Maybe that's what caused your problems?
edit: seems like there are issues with the TV trying to go from 7 directly to 8.2.1. See the sticky:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforc...ield-experience-upgrade-821released-11162020/
after one night unplugged i got it booting again and it run for about 10 minutes or so.
efter that i have now tried toapply new cooling paste and even tried with another power adapter, but noting seems to help so far.
and as some one else up there said, i can still hear the hdd spin
A very similar thing has happened to me but maybe my difference can shed light on this issue?
I was cleaning (sweeping specifically) and accidentally turned the shield on. I pressed the touch button on the front of the shield to put it back to sleep and I then heard a *pop* sound. After that the shield will only turn on for a second, the green light will come on for a second and then it will switch off.
I opened it up (pretty easy with just my finger nails even) and I can hear sounds coming from the mainboard when I plug it in, like it's still receiving power even though it wont turn on.
I have little to no experience repairing electronics but my assumtion is I discharged enough static to blow the power button board on the front of shield unit.
Also to add, the shield unit will not respond to the inputs of a controller or a keyboard that has been paired with it.
I identified the infinitesimally thin wires that connect the touch power button to the main board but they dont seem to be damaged themselves - I plugged the power supply in while each side was disconnected and the shield unit turned on when I reconnected the wires.
I'm going to assume that if I can replace the power button board on the front of the unit it will work again but I'm not sure and cant be sure unless I can get a spare part.
Or maybe I should just take it to a repair shop?
Has anyone managed to get their unit working properly after this specific issue.
Side note: it's strange how many others have this exact same issue in this exact month isnt it?
Just following up a little bit.
I got a new power supply from Ebay to see if that would make a difference.
It did not - the power supply is not the issue.
Oh just to add - I tried cloning the original drive but I was still able to read it on my computer and the drive-clone didn't change the outcome so that wasnt the issue either.

I turned mine off at the device last night and, pop, a huge static discharge from my finger. My Shield now exhibits the same behavior as everyone else in this thread.
Just wondering if you or anyone else every figured out a fix? Possibly blow fuse or capacitor in the power circuitry?
No change in status.
I'd like to still fix mine but I ended up buying a mini PC, which is a million times better than a proprietary-hardware device.
It's not locked down like an android only device (even though it runs on win10) and I can do much more with it than just watch movies and play android games/apps.
Anyway if anyone else can find a solution to this that'd be great.

Nvidia Shield TV Pro 16GB 4K HDR
All right guys, I'm back with the following steps
If you own a SHIELD Controller
• Unplug SHIELD TV.
• Connect SHIELD controller to SHIELD TV with a USB cable (use port closest to HDMI).
• While holding the A and B buttons at the same time, connect power to SHIELD TV.
If you do not own a SHIELD controller
• Unplug SHIELD TV.
• Connect a USB keyboard directly to SHIELD TV (use port closest to HDMI)
• While holding the "A" and "B" keys down at the same time, connect power to SHIELD TV.
• Once you enter Fast Boot mode, on the keyboard use the "X" and "Y" keys to navigate the menu and "A" to select
Use the X and Y buttons on the controller to move to "Boot recovery kernel".
3. Press the A button to select "Boot Recovery Kernel".
4. You may see the dead Android robot on screen. This is expected behavior. If so, press B button on the controller.
5. You will see Android Recovery Menu.
6. Use the X and Y buttons on the controller to move to "wipe data/factory reset".
7. Press the A button to select "wipe data/factory reset".
8. After process select "reboot system now".
8. SHIELD will boot to home screen.
Do the factory reset
It will bring you back to recovery
Select "Continue"
device will process and reboot like new
Hope this works....ENJOY
It did for me
