I'm running modaco's Rom with adw on top. Is the any way to change the keyboard to swiftkey? I've checked all the settings an saw nothing. Even tried to install it thinking maybe it would make something visable....nothing.
On another note... I know this is a kindle forum, given a choice between a fire and galaxy 7 tab plus. I don't need the camera or gps

Considered your kf already rooted, then you should install root explorer and go to data/app you will see the swiftkey app that you installed before. Copy it to system / app, before install swiftkey app inside system/app you have to mount the folder system/app from r/o to r/w. After install swiftkey.apk restart your kf. After that you could setup your new swiftkey on screen. Cheers

Hey guys I found a simple solution to install apks on the kindle fire
1) first click the download link for this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=360326&d=1279143194 DO THIS ON YOUR KINDLE
2) after it's done click open and install
3) put your kindle in usb mode and place any other apk on it
4) now you can install any apk from your file manager without root
u never needed root to "sideload" apps, root was if u wanted market.

yeah I just figured that out ;P lol I'm slow cause I just got the kindle.
I just purchased a kindle fire and it was automatically updated to 6.21. I would like to download apps from the android market but it does not recognize my kindle as something that I can download to. How do I associate the kindle fire to my google account?

That is correct. If you have the latest KF update, no root. If you had rooted previously this update breaks root.
Just got a KF for Christmas. I have it rooted, but I can't get the Vending.apk file to transfer to the /system/app directory. I have all the permissions; it just doesn't allow the .apk file to transfer.
I'd post in the appropriate directory, but because I have a new account, it won't let me.
Did you mount the system directory as RW? It's Read Only by default.

I did mount it as RW. When I try to paste the file into the directory, it just disappears. I can never get Vending.apk to actually paste into the directory.

Finally got the android market to load on my kindle fire. It wasn't too bad and I don't know why no other way worked, but this way does.
You have to have your Kindle Fire rooted before you do this step, so search elsewhere to do that. Once you have it rooted, follow this video:

I will say i am a complete newb. I went through and used the rooting tool that was provided in the development forum. I went to run the debug bats file but it says open file failed. It also says this when i try to run a torrent file. The torrent has plagued me for 2 months now. Can someone please tell me why i cant open the files? Again I am a complete newb when it comes to rooting and programming.
Well i finally got a player that plays my torrents so that's not an issue. I tried rebooting my tablet and still wont let me open the file
Through some more reading i figured out that i need another computer to do this root. Is there not a root that you can d solely on your tablet?
I haven't seem an android apk like z4root that works for this tablet. Adb from a PC is the best way to go right now.

Alright I had a friend help me root it last night and verified on the root checker app i do indeed have root access. Now i am trying to do the tweak sean provided and I'm watching the video. When it comes to the renaming the build prop file it is not allowing me to do that. It says operation failed. Also when i try to past the new build.prop file it says it was not successfully copied. I went in and changed my home directory to /. Just like the video said but its still not happening. Can anyone give me a hand?
I didn't see you mention this but build.prop is located inside /system which is a read only mount. If you are trying to update it you need to change the mount to read write.

Not the file but the mount its in. Easiest way i found is to use Root Explorer from the market. Navigate to the system folder and tap the button at the top that says r/o and it will change to r/w. Don't forget to change it back when you're done.

To the left of the button I mentioned is the current state the mount is in either r/o or r/w. You want r/w. Once you tap the button the status refreshes. If you can I would leave root explorer open while you push your file. Then when done, set it back to r/o.

Yep i got it downloaded. I rebooted the tablet after i downloaded the tweak. But is there a way i can make sure the tweak was successful?
Download root checker from the market. That should tell you. Remember to grant it superuser access when prompted.

Well i did root checker earlier too see if i have root access and sure enough i do. But it doesn't tell me if the tweak was downloaded successfully. Is there a way to check the fps to see if it is running at 60 fps? I figured that would be the easiest way to tell.
I don't know about that tweak sorry. Never used it.

2. Downloaded and install the GoogleServicesFramework.apk
3. Download Vending.apk
4. Using a file explorer app on the Fire with superuser permissions AND the system file permissions set to Read-Write, move Vending.apk to /system/app.
5. Change the permissions of Vending.apk to User - Read/Write, Group - Read, Others - Read
6. Install Vending.apk
7. The Android Market should show up in your Kindle Fire HD apps. Tap on it and follow the steps.
8. Download and install the Play.apk to upgrade the the android market to the current Play market.
9. Enjoy!

Keep in mind that we have no way of restoring the system folder yet, so if anything goes wrong with this process, you may end up bricking your tablet. Just a warning.

has anyone got this to work completely? i got the market to install along with the framework services, but i can't log into my account, it tries and then times out after a while.

Worked for me as well and I'm not rooted! This is going to put big smiles on lots of folks' faces since many don't root. So this is what ICS really looks like on the KFHD! Time to personalize with widgets and themes!

How does performance feel with the launcher?
Google Movies Issues
Can't seem to get Google Play Movies to work. It hangs at sync. Any ideas as to how to fix this? Would love to access both Amazon Instant Video and Google Movie accounts.

I figured out how to get Google Play Movies to work as well. Place in system/app folder. set permissions to rw r r. reboot. install from file explorer launcher. If it doesn't work, reinstall again. Youtube signs in now as well using the same method!!!

i used root explorer, any app that can change permissions and mount /system rw should work fine
Was just wondering what the negative ramifications would be if I were to delete the supersu app that I used to root my device in the system apps, and replace it with the new one that Koush released through the play store? Thx in advance for the help!

There's an option in SuperSU's settings to uninstall & cleanup the app in readiness for replacing with another superuser application.
I did this then installed Clockworkmod Superuser from Play store, no issues as yet on my N7.

I do it all the time.
Where you can get into trouble is if you don't open the new Superuser app and root app before deleting the old Superuser. But fixing it is easy, just flash a superuser zip in recovery.
