Help me!! don't know what happened to my screen... - Eee Pad Transformer General

hi, i have a problem with my transformer screen; in the centre of the screen when it's black (or dark colors) it appeared a big white zone, what is it? it's backlight bleeding? also at a corner there another zone.....how can i fix i? pleaze help me!!!

I have same problem also but came from stepping on tablet. Does the warranty cover this? I call it preasure points.

Yes, thats usually caused by too much pressure on the screen. I have similar on my laptop, which was caused by a bigass shelf falling from the wall on it (the laptop survived!!!)
I dont know how it works in the states, but here damages caused by "missuse" or accidents is not covered by the normal warranty. You have to buy an extra insurance to cover those kind of damages.

if they are from stepping, why they appear only if the screen is black or a dark color??

Who cares? Are you going to tell Asus you stepped on it?
Just RMA and tell them it happened spontaneously or that it was always like that and then got worse recently.

In fact i'll do like you said next week, unfortunately now i'm at my parent's house and the purchase receipt is at my university residence ( and it's quite far 530km)....hoping everything will be fine, i like so much my TF101.
i'll update you next week.

Light bleeding is a common problem. You won't have a problem with warranty.

i thought that it is light bleeding but was perplexed about the one in the center of the screen that appeared in less a day..

A word of caution. I sent my transformer back for a light bleed problem and ASUS sent it back to me in worse condition than when it left. Then they had the balls to ask me to send it back to them at my expense.
No thanks, I'll live with the light bleed, but I will never purchase another asus product again.

mmm.... I've read lots of bad review to the asus RMA, i hope here in Italy is better but i'm not so confident...
However my problem is the zone at the center is so much annoying. let's see if they will accept it, i must come up with a good excuse for rma-ing it after 3 month after the purchase...do the lightbleeding "expand"?

Because the cells in that region are permanently switched to a higher luminance? On dark colors it's easily visible but on bright colors that are already high in luminance to begin with you won't see anything. On white, you should see nothing unless the screen is capable of outputting a "whiter white."

Yup that pretty much sums it up.
To put it in more layman terms - the display has been pushed closer to the background light than the rest of the screen, as well as been damaged.
I know on older TFT's, it was in some cases possible to disassemble it and reallign the screen to the background light plane and, if lucky, fix the issue completely. I fixed an old laptop screen that had been stepped on by doing that.
I dont think its quite as easy on a tablet though, especially since its an IPS and not TFT screen.

2nd transformer and now backlight issues

This is the second transformer I have purchased, received directly from amazon not even a reseller... This one the box has nasty finger smudges all over it and looks as if the box had been opened... but
Anyways... The issue being with this one is that (4) of the backlights are visable at all screen brightnesses. I did not have this issue on the other one I had (screen was flickering like short in the unit somewhere, so decided to return and order new one seeing as it would be faster then RMA)
Not sure if this is normal or if this is another reason to return this device as it seems like quality control seems to be an issue with this product.
Just seems annoying that is what I focus on all the time and not sure if this is normal or if I got yet another defective unit...
Please let me know if yours looks like this otherwise I believe I am returning this one and ordering another. This is unacceptable to me.
I just recieved another transformer from amazon today too. I sent the other one back and purchased this one. Both of the transformers have the same light bleeding like what you have. The one i just recieved today has a lil more light bleeding than the one i sent back. I'm keeping this one. Not going to send it back anymore.
That looks pretty bad. I have some backlight bleeding, but I have to go out of my way to see it (max out the brightness in a dark room).
Here is a picture of mine. And this is basically the worst possible combinations of maximum brightness, completely dark room, and solid black wallpaper.
The light bleed is only a little noticeable on the lower left side and maybe a bit in the upper right. But what is annoying me is if you look closely there is a small light color blotch in the middle lower area of the screen. Argh!
This is the second Transformer I had and the second one with some really odd screen defect.
already requested to ship back to amazon... this sucks!!! but when trying to watch a movie the bleed is horrible.
I wish my original one from walmart didn't have a short in the screen (as you moved it the screen would turn on and off) because that one was otherwise perfect 100% no screen bleeding even on 100% brightness!

I'd return that. That looks horrid. You pay for something and expect to be flawless. Now I mean if this was on display and someone tried to sell you it, you wouldn't have bought it if it came with that flaw now would you.
Yeah, I'm going to return mine. I bought it from a local Fry's Electronics and I got about 10 more days left to do the return. And they don't have anything in stock to exchange with.
I'm still struggling with if I want to exchange or get a refund and buy something else instead. Need a few more days to think it over (and maybe a look at a few more Galaxy Tab 10.1 reviews).

I understand. But it seems like my odds of getting a defect free tablet may be higher with some manufactures than others.
My iPad was perfectly fine, first try. I've had two Xooms, both were perfect pieces of hardware (just too heavy and too expensive). My luck hasn't been as good with ASUS though.
Problem is both of the tablets I want seem to have manufacturing problems. I like the Galaxy Tab 10.1 too (though the lack of micro SD is why I bought the Transformer). But even Samsung seems to be having manufacturing problems with theirs too. Seems like far too many Google IO owners have their glass popping out of their bezel. Ugh. And it's looking like the production Wifi model has this issue too.
Well i deliberately wasnt lookig for issues and i can say the bleed is worse on the tf than my ipad 2. Also, of all sites, this forum craaaaaawls on it. Laggy as hell
XDA seems to really hate Android browsers. Haha. Opera Mini works MUCH better here though.
I thought I'd post a sample of the light bleed vs iPad 2. Both at 100% which frankly I'd never use this dark. However, the other shot is 50%.
I kept them small rather than two megs each. IMHO neither is acceptable at the price point. The tf changes with pressure the iPad 2 doesn't. The transformer is worse.
I have bad luck with screens. Also there are about ten stuck pixels seen on a black screen, I'm sure more if I run the color range.
Would you keep it? Don't think I will be. :/ and the iPad is getting exchanged.
O.K. mine issues:
Light bleeds on bottom right and right side of screen (on bottom left there is not such bleed as on picture this is kind of photo rendering issue)
http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/7805/32268220.jpg
Two defective spots of pixels on dark screen only
http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/3120/22912128.jpg
Zoomed defective pixels..
http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/7434/72512206.jpg
But I notice this in only %1 in my daily use, because I am not using it in dark room on dark screen at full brightness
What bothers me more is speaker disbalance (right is normal left is only 30% as loud as right). But if I have to wait for RMA I won`t take it to RMA because I just love it too much and don`t want to wait for stupid RMA.. Maybe I will give it to RMA after 23 months (in Lithuania there is 2 Year warranty)
BTW I contacted seller and waiting for answer and if they will not exchange it i will live with these issues
P.S. speaker test:
yah i noticed thatpressure on the back increasesthe bleeding but my photo was with no pressure. And dam this site lags on this transformer.
Still returning...sadly
just received my 3rd one in today. few dead pixels throughout the screen and then one big area that is washed out about the size of my thumb.
amazon refused to exchange this one and now says i have to go through asus. BULLSH**
i have to return mine due to the backlight as well, its got a bleed that seems like its getting worse every day.
also from amazon! i really dont want to send it back either

this is exactly how my current (3rd) is. the other two had bleed, but not as defined as this one's is. the others were more diffused.

[Q] Light Bleed? Common issue? Faulty?

Hi,
I have just received my Asus TF today, and I absolutely love it!
However I have just noticed that in the middle of the screen @ the very bottom the light is slightly bleeding out (ie there is a lighter spot on the black bar).
Its just right above the docking point.
Is this a common issue / design, or is mine faulty?
Sorry, its probably a completely stupid question, but I just want to figure out if I should be asking for a new one....
It's a common issue, you're not alone.
Some of us have returned TF's with light bleed, while others accept it.
If you just have one section at the bottom, keep it. Mine had four different areas of bleed.
I have light bleeding but only noticeable when showing pure full screen black picture in a dark room. So its not really a big deal for me ( I guess nothing is perfect). However, I wonder if others have worse.
I have some light bleed at the bottom of my screen in 3 different areas. Its not too bad and i can only see it on a black screen. Its better ecer since i put the sceen on auto brightness
this problem will exist with LG ips screen. :O
Got my replacement from BestBuy today, Original had one bad light bleed and 3 smaller ones. Also had a dead pixel in the middle of the screen.
New one has small light bleed in lower corner, hardly noticeable and no dead pixels.
Now I just need to pick a ROM to put on ;-)

No. No it will not. LG IPS panels do not even have backlights; not inherently, anyway.
I hate when people blame light bleed on IPS. It's not the IPS technology, it's the poor quality edge-lighting

Yes, that's probably true. Asus might be responsible for the backlight, or they may have bought it from yet another third party, but it's probably LG's.
Mine has very small ribboning of light at the bottom of the screen, would have never noticed in normal use. I checked my Ipad that I have had for a year and its exactly the same and in the same place, never noticed till I looked for it. Possibly all tablets have LB to some extent if its not noticible in every day use its only a problem if it bothers you looking at a black screen in a dark room

Not all tablets have lightbleed.
Most do, though, because of the form factor basically requiring edge-lit backlights, which are very tempermental
I just received mine yesterday & don't seem to have any light bleed. That is unless I don't know what I am looking for.
My only real issue seems to be with the power button. I have to push it 2 or 3 time for my transformer to wake up.
I have the same issue, 2 spots at the top of the screen. I don't think I ever see it though unless the display is entirely black or at least very dark. If it were much worse I'd consider getting a replacement, however from what I've read on the subject it doesn't seem to get (significantly) worse over time under normal conditions, however excess strain may worsen the effect. Thankfully the TF101 seems pretty solid so I don't think its going to be much of an issue.
Mine has it in about three or four places too, I don't really care about it though.
Sadly I just noticed two spots in the middle of my screen that are white. I do not think it is light bleed but I have already issued a RMA with NCIX on this.
I noticed that it is an issue on Amazon as well....according to this review.
http://www.amazon.com/review/R21G1E2O7DUE83/ref=cm_srch_res_rtr_alt_1
Dammit.
Ah well. Will RMA it and if that fails will get a refund and get a Acer Iconia instead.

Sh***y Display & 5 exchanges...

Hi to all,
I would like to share my brief experience with Galaxy S2. After changing 4 phones when I saw defects on the screen of the 5th one I fed up and returned it for good.
The manufacturing quality of these displays are absolutely garbage on these phones. I own SGS and the screen is perfect. I expected the same thing with SGS2 especially if I pay 700 for a phone. when I came home and compared 2 phones I was disappointed.
Here is my experience with 5 phones. I live in Toronto so these phones purchased locally. First three of them from Best Buy, last 2 from Bell.
1.) Colors were fine but there was a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. A black dot. I exchanged the phone.
2.) In store I checked the phone for defects and couldn't find one (because of bright environment). I went to movie right after the purchase and realized in 2 min something was wrong with colors. When you dim the light, there was no grey. It was purple. keyboard was purple, gmail was purple. I exchanged it.
3.) Colors were so so. Still had a visible pink tint on it. and when you tilt the phone and view from different angles colors were changing, having a blue tint. If you view with 90 degrees it was pinkish again. (there is no such problem on my SGS)
addition to this, when in a dark room if you open a pure black picture the screen was showing some defects (dark black lines and spots on screen).
When you pull down the status bar, in low brightness there were some bands.
I returned the phone, got my refund and wanted to buy form somewhere else to see maybe its a batch problem.
4.) I went to another place. Got my phone. Screen had no defects but it was like someone pissed on it. It had a yellow tint. whole screen. colors were so pale. I actually kinda missed the pink tint. which was better and giving more vivid colors. I exchanged it the same day.
5.) It had a pink tint( which is ok since I got used to it). It had no banding when you pull down status bar and displays pure black very good.
BUTTTTT!!!! when you pull down status bar there was a half centimeter diameter white spot. And once you see it u never not see it. It was there in every pic (mostly grey colors)
I had enough and returned it. I wish I could find a good one like my SGS(which I didn't have such problems)
I tried 5!!!!! phones and none of them had a perfect display. Such a shame for a 700 dollar phone. I decided to wait and see if its gonna change in several months or not.
Maybe they shipped all the dodgy ones to Canada. I have a UK model (bought just over 2 months ago) and my screen is fine - no dead pixels, no purple or yellow tint...

Maybe they rushed the manufacturing for Canada. who knows. But one thing is obvious there are literally 2 different screens. I had been many stores. Many. And Checked maybe 30 display phones and from different stores and there are either Yellow tint screen or Pink tint screen.
Even if half of all the SGS2's have defective screens, the probability of you getting five in a row is 3%.
Yeah, maybe Toronto is receiving all the defective, returned ones. Or maybe you're just really unlucky. Or cursed.
Wow, that's a string of badluck. I've had mine for a couple of months now and have had no screen problems.

Yeah its probably because of my girlfriend. She never wanted me to get this phone since I am already in 3 year contract with bell owning SGS and had to purchase the phone with full price.
Also many first time buyers might not see those things. I have SGS at home and can compare. My sgs has a blue tint too but at least when you view from different angles colors don't change at all and not a single imperfection. And blue tint makes the whites brighter and less irritating than having a yellow white.

You should have kept number 4. Yellow tint was a software issue and KG2/KG3 fixes it.
I only had to exchange once due to 2 dead/stuck pixels on the bottom left. Haven't seen any of the other issues you mentioned.
Sorry about that my friend, Hope you get a good one soon.
My screen is fine, but i noticed something as you said. When seeing a full black color while using any screen test app. I see many lines like drawing if looked closely :

Exactly. However when I open the same test pattern in SGS and put side by side, my sgs is smooth ad butter. Nothing on it. Just pure color, no imperfections whatsoever.
I have a question to you. When you dim the light do your status bar and other button colors band whites (such as keyboard, swype keyboard) has a purplish tint? Is it normal or a defect?
When I opened keyboards those buttons appear purplish. In my sgs they are grey.
I'm in Vancouver and got mine a few days ago shipped from Bell. No problems here with screen colors or dead pixles. My son also dropped it on tile already and not a single scratch, thank god. Still waiting for my case from ebay.

Nothing else except that, and bro my phone is always having 0% brightness hehe.
and to be more precise those drawings on full black color looks like burns on old CRT tv when suddenly power cuts isn't it ? haha
Anyways, Colors are vivid and really better than my LED TV.
and no viewing angle problems.
Do i really need to worry about those drawing while on full black? though you see them only if you look closer or focus ur eyes for long

so is this not normal because my buddy's is the same

I dont know what is normal or not no one knows. But I am assuming if there is no color shifting when tiliting on my SGS this one shouldn't have it either.
I really wonder if people don't realize whether their screen is yellowish/purplish or their phones are just perfect.
As far as I see there is no natural color phone toronto by now. And belive me I am not exaggerating it. If you put those two phones side by side their color tint is completely different. What kinda manufacturing is this?
I can even say which stores in toronto have what colors.
If u wanna see purplish tint display phones:
-Future shop in dundas
-Bestbuy in dufferin mall
-Source in dufferin mall
-Bell in Eaton center (lower floor store)
Yellow tint display phones:
-Bell Eaton center second floor they had like 5-6 displays which were all yellow)
-virgin mobile in dufferin mall.
I don't even remember some stores. this doesn't mean if u buy from there u are gonna get the same color phone. Its totally random. These are the colors of display phones.
i dont understand man, i have mine for 2 months now in UK, screen is fine it is the best screen i have ever seen.

Yeah, gotta love the deadpan humor. Some members here are quite good at it.
I had a dead pixel when I ordered mine when it was released in UK about 2-3months ago. The dead pixel went away within 2 days of owning. Maybe your 1st device was your best 1 with a little more patience.
Theres no excuse to you having 5 devices with problems. I really think there might be quality control problems with the screen manufactors. But I do know this is probably a very small percentage since it doesnt seem widespread.
Wow man messed up. I bought mine from China and it's the best. Absolutely perfect no defects at all! Perfect just Perfect!
well I just got off the phone with Samsung and they told me that what I'm seeing is a defect
I don't know if I should exchange it for another one or just return it and stick with the Atrix

Black spots on screen

Yes I know there have been other posts about this but this one is a little different, or at least not one that I have seen before.
I've taken a long exposure shot of my Note II in the dark with my DSLR to show the spots on the screen when it is black. I've only noticed them with my eyes when actually trying to look for them by turning all the lights off and waiting til my eyes adjust to seeing nothing so they don't bother me at all but thought it was interesting anyway.
My galaxy s2 had that ... but my notes screen is perfect ... Blahhhhhhhhhh that sucks man it's just luck of the draw
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
Like I say I never notice it when actually using the phone so really not bothered by it. I prefer what I have with the really dark blacks to the LCD on my last phone which was nowhere near black.
Folks, bought my SGN2 from New Delhi and I seem to have the Black Ink mark/line on the screen. Its only visible in the dark under the certain colors, eg. Grey when you use the stock Android SMS app.
Should I get the phone checked at the service centre or is this normal as I've read that this is a Samsung AOMLED manufacturing process. There were a lot of Note & Galaxy 2 phone with it. Even the Note 2 seems to be plagued.
My S2 had that problem. I haven't noticed anything like that for my Note 2 under any lighting conditions. I've been looking by forcing gray backgrounds and using stuff like screen filter to reduce dimness. Still looks good!
Mine Note 2 has a big spot on the upper right hand side of the screen

I assume its completely normal as there are a lot of people who faced this Black spot thingy, I bought my Note 2 three days ago and yesterday I noticed a big black spot on screen, but its only visible in a completely dark environment with pitch black picture on my phone.. It doesn't affect my experience with note 2 in any way, but still we want 100% perfect screen when we pay such a huge amount. Btw I bought it from local store at Chandigarh,India and the box says made in Vietnam.
PS:- As AMOLED screens are really thin, May be some glue accumulated on the back of the screen is the reason for these spots. And it is completely normal as If it were a defect it wouldn't be on almost every screen.

i also had black dots on screen and bubbles under the glass.service center replaced the display and now the black dots relocated to different locations but bubbles are gone.
i bought from kolkata. i would suggest not to take your phone to service center as they added 15-20 scratches to back cover , 4-5 dents to metal lining on side and 3-4 scratches to new display.Samsung service center in india doesn't know how to handle cellphones. They did this to multiple people.
This is an extreme case of OCD. All amoled screens have this issue. The fact that you need to try so hard to find it is why it is consisted acceptable for what you otherwise get with an amoled screen.

Yeah, Samsung India is not up to the mark in providing customer satisfaction and as you mentioned that how they handled your device, is the reason why am just dealing with this spot issue. its still better to have those spots then these scratches and dents.
Samsung should replace the handset itself if its not more then one month old, not just the display.
Had a long vertical 'Black Line" after the 'Samsung' Logo and it went from one end to the other end. It was noticeable during the startup screen of Grand Theft Auto III and on certain colors, eg: Grey. Several other black dots were around the screen as well.
Sold it off and bought another Note2. So far it's perfect
miura, this is one of the flaws with amoled, try getting it exchanged
also, you seem to have the vertical line issue too
dark spots

I assume its completely normal as there are a lot of people who faced this Black spot thingy, I bought my Note 2 three days ago and yesterday I noticed a big black spot on screen, but its only visible in a completely dark environment with pitch black picture on my phone.. It doesn't affect my experience with note 2 in any way, but still we want 100% perfect screen when we pay such a huge amount. Btw I bought it from local store at Chandigarh,India and the box says made in Taiwan.
PS:- As AMOLED screens are really thin, May be some glue accumulated on the back of the screen is the reason for these spots. And it is completely normal as If it were a defect it wouldn't be on almost every screen.

I had this same issue and im thinking that it might be a component that touches the screen below.
Let me ask you all a simple question, Where are your Note 2's Made? You find this information by removing the battery cover and checking on the white sticker behind your phone. Let me know, as this can suggest something.

We don't know actually what it really is, but it is considered as normal in AMOLED manufacturing criteria.
Its annoying when you see it, but it doesn't affect screen or device in any way, So, am living with it. As its only visible in dark room with pitch black or some grey shade screen.
^^^^ where is your note made in?

After removing the back cover and battery, Made by Samsung , nothing else. But on the actual Box it was printed "made In Taiwan".
Made in Taiwan? First time reading this...

Dark patch on screen

Has anybody else noticed a dark patch on the edge of their screen? Along the top side of my screen, I can see it going off white when browsing a website in portrait mode for example.
It's like the back light isn't working properly there or something. Anybody else got this, should I get a replacement?
It's not hugely visible but it's noticeable on a white screen at any brightness level
Idk, it's up to you. I have light bleed in my right hand corner that is always visible, unless your in a well lit room on 0% brightness. I can't decide whether or not I want to send mine back though because of how common these backlighting issues seem to be.
Yeah. Mine is flawless otherwise. Its so barely noticeable I think I'll just get used to it.
Same ha ha, other people can't even spot it when i point it out to them on auto-brightness.
Yes, I noticed mine right away, but like others have said, its hardly noticeable. It doesn't bother me at all...
Sent from my Nexus 10 baby!
Same thing here. Most noticeable on a solid white background. I'm starting to think it's not a lighting problem but something to do with the way the panel is manufactured. If I hold the tablet in landscape so it's perpendicular to my face with my eyes lined up with the camera, the brightness is even across the panel. As soon as I tilt the bottom towards me, the brightness falls along the top edge. Makes it seem more like a viewing angle issue related to the way the layers are assembled or maybe a difference in pressure on the panel along that edge.
I decided to live with it because it's very rare that I have an app running in full screen that puts a light background across that area.
Same issue for me as well

I had the same issue with my first unit, did RMA and got second one. Second one had the exact same issue. Finally decided to get refund. The play store customer support said that there were few people reporting it already. This might be a design issue as well- the way device is tapered differently at the edges(backlight might not be aligned properly), two strong magnets near camera etc. Just speculating.
Dark patch here too. RMA process underway. 1/3 of screen has yellow tint. Noticeable when reading on white background. Annoyance.

Keep us posted on the replacement device!
Same problem here. I received my Nexus 10 yesterday and notice dimming primarily (exclusively?) along the long edges. While reading a web page with a white background in portrait mode I found myself wondering if chrome was adding a gradient to the edges for some stylistic effect, but realized that made no sense. I observed the same problem with Firefox, and then I installed a screen testing app and observed the dimming with a solid white screen.
It sounds like this is probably a manufacturing/design error. Now I have to decide whether it's worth the rigmarole of exchanging the device, probably to no effect. I guess this is the risk you take when purchasing a device sight-unseen.
If you bought it from a store it would still be unseen, since it would be in the box. I had the same problem with the iPad 3. It took me three exchanges to get one with an acceptable screen. All of them had dark, blotchy, yellow patches. By all accounts it's due to the adhesive glue they use. We shall see what the replacement brings. Order is currently at the 'pending' stage.
I also have this on my screen. Right side when in portrait mode. You can't see it in landscape, which is weird. My wife and I have decided to keep it, though, as everything else about it is perfect. Plus, this defect, if you want to call it that, does not detract from our enjoyment and uses.

To clarify, I meant that I'd never had the opportunity to use *any* Nexus 10 in person. Had I done so, and noticed the dim edge, it would have at least raised the possibility that there was a design or manufacturing issue.
Speaking of which, I examined an in-store Nook HD+ display unit yesterday and what do you know: it had the same dim edge issue.
By the way, where did you hear about the adhesive glue explanation?

Mine has--I assume--the same dimness along the entire length starting about 1/4" from the bezel along the "top" camera edge. It is actually somewhat distracting when reading a book in portrait mode. If I flip the screen around so that the dimness is on the left edge, for some reason I find it much less annoying. Unsure if this is a warranty replacement issue though. I haven't found another Nexus10 to see in person yet.

It was all over the iPad forums when the iPad3 came out. Plenty of people with dodgy screens. Some reported success in leaving brightness turned up to max and plugged in for 24hrs etc to dry. But may have been placebo. It could also be an entirely different cause other than adhesive. After all, what do I know? In any case, mine's heading back, but the replacement is still stuck on 'pending'
I had a rare bit of luck. Somebody sat next to me on the bus yesterday evening and pulled out an oddly familiar black tablet. I explained the problem I was having and asked if I could examine his Nexus 10. His device had a perfect display, with no detectable dimming near the edges. So the issue appears to be a manufacturing defect, not a design flaw, and something that could in principle be solved with a replacement unit.
I called Google last night and have my RMA email. I'll ship it off this weekend.

I would love it if you would come back and post if the replacement has or does not have the issue.
