[Q] PDF covers/thumbnails - Nook Touch General

Is there any way to make the covers/thumbnails for pdf side loaded ebooks working? Everything is fine while the ebook is in the epub format, but there's no cover if it's in pdf. I can't convert it in Calibre because the program destroys whole content. Maybe there is a way to force Calibre to convert the ebook only by adding a cover and leaving the rest untouched? Or maybe you know how to do it in other way.

Hello, do anyone have news about this isuue? :crying::crying::crying:

The EPUB format has a place for cover images, the PDF format does not.
If you had a cover image for a PDF you'd either have to insert it in some non-standard place in the PDF file or else store it alongside.
I know how to extract a bitmap out of the first page of a PDF on the Nook and could write a bit of a wrapper to do that on the Nook.
The problem is gluing the whole thing together into something useful.

Elfin Ebook Readers Opinions

I just got the Touch by Sprint, Or as it is called the Elf. I am looking for a good, easy to use ebook reader. I would prefer something that uses pdf, but as ong as I an find a converter, I will use any format. I have a bunch of Ebooks on my PC that I have previously bought and want a reader were I can use them. Thanks
You can use the mobile version of Adobe Reader to read pdfs, but I think it's a bit of a pain as they don't fit on the screen in a readable resolution. I tend to use Microsoft Reader, which uses lit files. Lit files are fairly easy to find. Otherwise I use Mobipocket, which reads a few different file formats.
Mobipocket Reader is the best ebook reader for Windows Mobile. They also have a free app called the Mobipocket Creator which will convert most ebooks to a txt or other readable format. The best thing about it its 100% free.
I second the MobiPocket, it's great.
P.S. Your device if your with Sprint is the Vogue!!!
easiest way to tell, the Vogue is doesn't have WiFi. There are other differences but that's the one that will cause you to go....Ahhhhhh....
Yes mobi pocket is very good reader...
The cool thing is, you can import pdf files, and it will remove the line-breaks automatically.
I've been using mobipocket for half year, and it totally beats other reader applications (and I've tried allot).

[Q] Odd sideloading in library

Okay, so here's my problem with sideloaded content, and I don't quite know what's going on here.
I have a rooted (via manual nooter) 2.1 Nook Color. I can put books on my NC via Calibre and they'll show up in the library. If I download an ePub from the web, and place them in the /sdcard/my files/books folder, they DO NOT show up.
However, if I download the books through Aldiko, and then move the EPUB FILE ONLY, not the folder, it will show up in the library although with a different cover, I'm guessing I need to do an epub to epub conversion to get that, it might just be displaying the first page.
What does Calibre do that moving the file will not? And why would it show up after Aldiko downloads it and moves it. I have a feeling there is something missing from just the ePub and I can't figure it out.

Mobi Files

Solved, it was dumb, close please
Convert them with Calibre on your Windows/Mac/Linux machine. ePub is always a good choice to convert to, it seems to be the defacto standard for most everybody these days. Failing that, install FBReader and enjoy a much nicer ebook reader.

[GUIDE] Fixing eBooks showing up in Docs instead of Books (fixing the meta tag):

This is for the kindle noobs who are having trouble putting books on there kindle or having the books show up in docs instead of books...
Enjoy

How do I fix PDF books that show up in Doc
Convert them with calibre to mobi and make there tagged with [EBOK] then transfer to kindle with calibre and they should go from docs to books
just as it says above
I've tried this and several other methods and was never able to get ebooks to show up in the stock Kindle reader.
Works for me. Nice tutorial with pictures. I originally saw a thread in the developer section on how to do this... tho lacking pics.
It sucks that one has to convert a mobi to a mobi just to change meta data... bonus points to some one who finds a quicker way to just edit meta data.

Yeah it is annoying, took practically a whole day just to convert around 200 books to that ebok crap.

[Q] Epub to epub links

I want to create a catalog epub for my UNrooted NST.
The catalog epub will have embedded links (likely html) that, when clicked in the Nook's built-in Reader program, would open another epub in the NST library.
Each page of the catalog epub will give a little info about the book.
Question: what link must I embed in the catalog epub to jump to another book in my sideloaded NST library?
I hope something like this is possible: Sherlock Holmes
Any ideas? Anybody else tried custom programming HTML in and epub to do anything beyond jumping to different sections of a book?
Will probably not work:

The main problem seems to be that the Reader doesn't follow external links.
Put in a link for Google and it flashes but goes nowhere.
(At least that is what 5 minutes of experimenting leads me to believe.)
If it did handle links well you could just write something to handle intents for your own schema.
Then you could write A story or whatever you like.
