If you were a magician what feature would you improve on the X8? - XPERIA X8 General

This is just a fun thread, and please don't go about trolling to buy a new phone. If you had one or two magical wishes what would you improve on the X8 be it hardware or software.
I for one if I had a wish would hope for the X8 to have magical solar panels which would keep the phone going all year without running low on power. Haha
And what would you wish for?

Well, if I can, I want to change the CPU to 1.5ghz, and processor Armv7 myself.
Sent From My W8 Using Tapatalk 2!!

CPU to 1,4 GHz and the size of the sreen to 4"

Fully working ics on stock kernel
Sent from my X8 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-2

I wish.....
CPU 1/1.4 GHz and 1GB RAM.
Then ICS Jelley Bean not a factor.

mmm...
I would... make the volume rocker and the camera button a bit bigger, use better quality plastic to eliminate the cracking sound the back cover makes (noticed this on several black x8). And, last but not least, armv7 (minimum), better gpu, 1gb rom, 1gb data, 512mb ram so that we wont depend on app2sd that much and have better app response (that will definitely solve some major rom upgrade issues)

[Miracle]
What would i do : change Ram to 8gb DDR3 | 3D,2D Nvidia driver Like m150 | Battery up to 6Years or more! | 900GB internel Memory! | Cpu 3.32ghz | Camera Like DSLR [canon] | And Have Usb Port 2.0 | Thats enough for me.
[Just are dream] .
And yeah ! Sure i'll Fix My Phone !

If can..I wish my X8 can be flexible with the latest software & hardware.

Change the phone's processor to Tegra 2 1500MHz dual core
4"5 iNCH screen with corning gorilla glass
1Gb ram
OFFICIAL ICS 4.0

Ram 1GB CPU to 1.5GHz

A Cypress digitizer. Well, a better touchscreen. It's horrible to type with, and the screen just feels cheap. And the sensitivity is all messed up.
I'm fine with the speed, we have godly devs here.

well if youre just purely going on specs, the atrix wins.
Tegra-supported games are out.
DDR 2 is technically faster
16gb is bigger than 4gb
4" qHD has a higher pixel density
3D is a gimmick
Once HSUPA is enabled, ATT 3g is much faster than Sprint's 3g. WiMax drains battery like no other
This is the only place where the evo 3d "wins," with 2.3 - but atrix will receive an update
See benchmarks
Games being supported is not really something that should be considered a win since they will be developed for hardware once it becomes available. Also higher pixel density is nice but you must also consider the larger screen space( thumbs on a smaller screen take up much more away from the viewing area) 3D may be a gimmick but the other doesn't have it so it cannot compare in that regard. Att service is spotty so if you do get service that doesn't mean it will be maxed out. What needs to be compared here is pure hardware, which cannot be changed or upgraded.
For instance the DDR2 like you mentioned earlier.
I am very interest in how these phone compare as well.
The Tegra is a really well made chip though, sorry but the speed of a CPU doesn't mean how efficient it is. If you have a chip that does high multimedia extremely well, it doesn't matter how fast it is. The A8 Cortex isn't made for high multimedia so it will lose in the long run.

The Tegra 250 in the atrix is a dual core Cortex A9. The MSM8660 in the Evo 3D is a dual core with a custom Qualcomm ARM compatible core.
You can't compare different architecture processors by clockspeed alone. They also have totally different GPUs.

It's not all about dual core or single core. It's about how software optimizes the GPU/CPU
Phandroid posted an article about a guy who ran 720p video Youtube using Adobe Flash and the SINGLE core Adreno 203 Qualcomm MSM 7230 clocked at 800mhz bested the Atrix.
Let's just say in terms of benchmarks, the Atrix may be better and such, but it's about real world performance.
No one is going to run 720p youtube video off their phone, but again, it's about optimization of software.
Motorola, good hardware, **** software. Get it? LOL
http://phandroid.com/2011/06/15/qua...re-tegra-2-for-flash-content-supremecy-video/
Evo 3d from the earth and the atrix from space. It is a shame to compare both. Motorola's both hardware and software is good. HTC 's dont offer more than a rainbow style ui which can't even resize its widgets. Its software is so ****ty that their phones don't even hold a charge for whole day. In the meantime motorola offers you flexibility and professional workspace with its ui + webtop.
I am really surprised to see how some people can continue to talk nonsense over here. Atrix pawns all and i think that wont change till the release of ip5. I know that it is really hard for these htc fanboys to accept motorola pawned them.
You'll get used to the reality hardly and slowly
Cortex-A8 is single core clocked between 600Mhz and 1GHz. My Nokia N900 has one.
I'm pretty sure they're still advertising the Atrix as the "World's most powerful smartphone." I did see a commercial for the Evo 3d, and go "damn. now I have to get that." but then I remembered I have an Atrix, and 3d vs. Webtop would be the only noticeable difference to me (aside from UI of course).

DHD vs O2X which one your favourite?

I own this 2 beast and I also quit confusing to compare this smartphone which is the best one. I like the speed of O2X, but dislike it ui or interface if compare to DHD htc sense. I also like DHD aluminum body more than O2X plastic. So, what do you think guys? which one is better?

Any one? just to know your opinion.

is there a massive speed difference?
Well the biggest difference is probably that Dual Core processor of the O2X (2 x 1GHz) while the DHD only has a single core (also 1GHz).
The main camera is similar, but the O2X is capable of 1080p video recording AND additionally has a front faced camera for video calls.
It has also got more internal storage (8GB) and a slightly better battery (1500 mAH)
So yeah, I would say that the O2X is better than the DHD.

yeh but it has an extremely buggy ui. the speed test show it beats the dhd in web browsing by 1-2 seconds. also some benchmark test show the dhd scoring higher.
also the dualcore phones dont have 2x 1GHz cpu... the total speed is 1ghz

Say what?!
A 1ghz dual core processor is not 2 processors running at 500mhz!!! It is a single CPU with 2 cores capable of processing separate threads. It runs at 1ghz and technically it is like 2 1ghz processors operating in tandem.
Shoot whoever is spreading the above misinformation lol.

He is definitely right.
You can't just add the speeds of two seperate cores up. The dual core runs at 2 @ 1Ghz. That's like two seperate CPUs, each with a clock speed of 1Ghz. So it is NOT 2 Ghz CPU but rather 2 processors @ 1Ghz. It may sound similar, but it makes a huge difference (for further detail you should look into how a processor works and what threads are).

You will find info where dual core freq is same as single core. The only different is that dual core is way better when doing multitasking (avoid hang or jitter) and not to say double speed but can say nearly double speed.

Im not an expert but correct me if im wrong.
1 CPU with 2 core. Each core have 1 ghz freq. 1 core to do 1 task, another core to do another task. Meaning freq each core still 1 ghz but since its have dual core it can do both task at the same time. More quick than a single core. If we compare to single core with 2 ghz, it can only do task 1 at a time. In term of speed i think dual core 1 ghz should be nearly the same as 1 core 2 ghz. I also read some where saying single core 2 ghz consume more power than dual core 1 ghz.
Just my 2 cent.

I'm 100% sure. Here's a brief history of multi core processors for those who are interested.
In the late 90's and early 000's, processor speed was constantly on the rise. Manufacturers were trying to out-do each other in regards to who had the fastest clock speed.
The way clock speed increases is by actually shrinking the microarchitecture (Semi-Conductors) of the processor, which leads to faster data transfer/processing rates. There was a pattern involved where each new generation of chip architecture yielded almost twice the clock speed of the past generation. However, as processor architecture grew smaller and smaller, eventually we approached a stage where physically, using current materials and manufacturing processes, a limit had been reached. It wasn't possible to continue shrinking the size of the processor, so logically, the next step was to integrate multiple cores on a single chip. This was the birth of the multicore processor.
The way a multicore processor works is by utilising multiple processor cores on a single chip. This way, instead of a higher clock speed, you have multiple cores running at the same speed, 'sharing' the workload. So, a 1ghz Dual Core Processor is a single chip, with 2 cores both clocked at 1ghz. A 3ghz Quad Core Processor is a single chip, with 4 cores all clocked at 3ghz.
This all sounds wonderful, but for a multicore processor to be used efficiently, it requires software to be multithreaded. This is where you have to question the use of dual core processors in smartphones, as none of the applications or the OS utilise multiple threads! So really, as it stands, you'll struggle to see truly improved performance from dual core handsets.
This will all change in the future. Android 2.4 will support dual cores by default and I'm guessing most software will start to aswell.
Anway, hope this was interesting for those wondering how dual core processors work and about clock speed etc.
Regards.

I played with the Arc today and...

First off, I don't want any fanboy reactions from SGS2 users or what kind of other phone. I'm just wondering why we don't have got it?
Today I played with the Arc of my nephew. And what must I say? We updated to the newest firmware before starting.
I must say that our x10 has received a very very very crappy 2.3.3 update. The Arc has ALMOST NO lags. Everything runs smoother then on our x10. They both got 1Ghz processor, how did this happen?
Also battery life is MUCH better. x10 was on lowest brightness, Arc FULL brightness both connected with wifi. X10 had a simcard, and the Arc not. But damn? Our x10 lost so many % battery in constant use while the Arc just lost 1%!!! X10 has even custom rom...
Both phones similair processor, only newer generation on Arc. Both running same clockspeed. How the heck can our x10 then perform much and much worse?
Just a few things I'm wondering, and NO I'm not going to buy a Arc. I got better things to buy
By chance any developer then can fully uncap all FPS to 60 FPS on our x10. Including 3D. I'm not expecting 3D games to run 60FPs but atleast that they will be able to reach the max FPS our GPU can handle if uncapped... The only thing we've got uncapped is 2D graphics, nothing more... And 2D graphics on Arc are still smoother...
Who will be able to make us x10 perform better? Is it kernel related? Arc has newer kernel?
I know thread is a bit messy, but how the heck can a phone with almost similair hardware (just newer generation processor and some new things) perform so much much much better? You can't make me believe that the processor in the Arc is 100% faster... Both same clockspeed just some little improvements for energy and stronger GPU, and the UI has no heavy graphics... Arc = butter smooth in scrolling and all UI related stuff.
I believe SE is capping more then only the FPS?
Did you know that the Are processor higher than X10, RAM is higher than X10 and GPU performance is higher than X10? What are you talking about? Compare a new phone appears almost 2 years later with the first Android phone from SE?
EDIT: I'm scared of this one

It is the processor completely. Try any phone with that gen, its the same reason those phones can overclock to 1.8 ghz comfortably
Hey guys...
My Dell with a 2.4 ghz Pentium IV running win7 runs like crap compared to my Dell with a 2.4 ghz intel core and nvidia gtx 460. Why did Dell give us such an inferior Win7?
I mean, both laptops have the same speed but the core one lasts 4x as long as the old one! They're so similar but it's so *convenient* that the newer one is running win7 better.
Doesn't anyone else think that Dell is crapping our Win7 on purpose? It's a conspiracy folks!
I guess there are several clarifications needed.
1. X10's brightness is controlled by fluorescent illuminators as compared to Arc's LED backlit. have you ever wondered why sometimes the backlight doesn't dim smoothly? fluorescent illuminated display consumes hell lot more battery as compared to LED. this is rather self explanatory.
2. the process in x10's and arc's processor are different. x10 uses 65nm while arc uses 45nm. power consumption and efficiency in both are obviously different. performance wise, different too.
3. adreno 200 and adreno 205 are of major difference. adreno 205 enables hardware accelerated flash and rendering while 200 does not. adreno 200 is ancient FYI.
4. FPS on the x10 is uncapped to 55. i suppose that doesn't make much difference with 60?
There is no "3d fps cap". This is the actual performance of Adreno200 (compare it with N1)
Cheers,
z

I don't think there is a way to directly overclock GPU on SoC. it's not like in PC we have a separate graphics card to run graphic rendering.

X10 998MHz @ 1300mV vs 1024MHz @ 1200mV on Arc
Alone these things make it better.
And you forgot to mention that Arc's screen reacts faster/better.
Couldn't type really fast on my X10, it didn't register some touches then. On my Arc I can type really, really fast.
All these things make it better, BUT the Arc is 1 year newer than the X10!
In 1 year hardware makes huge steps forward.

Already overclock CPU speed to 1.3GHz, install custom ROM if you want it.
The differences between the X10 and Arc are CPU, RAM, GPU. Same CPU name with different code 200-205, RAM: 384/512, GPU is included on CPU so new CPU technology mean better GPU. That why everything on ARC is smoother than X10. You must know exactly what you are talking about, not only the value of processor.
The x10 is pretty damn smooth now, I get all day usage from it, constantly on WiFi. The people complaining must have forgotten what 1.6 was like, it's night and day now.

Quad-core or 2gb ram?

In real phone scenario what we could benefit more? Will a quad-core be faster the 2gb of ram? Or will a 2gb will perform better against quad-core?
Pocketnow did a video between the gs2 and gs3 and both were opening apps really quick, they were really close on browsing, gaming. Do you think the 2gb will make a difference on the phone compare to the international? What are your thoughts?

2GB will help with multitasking while the faster processor will help with gaming and to a degree, faster apps.
If it were an iPhone, then the quad core would be much better because apps will actually make use of the amazing gpu. In android, I doubt there will be an app released in the next year or two that realistically benefits from the quad core's gpu vs the dual core's.
Both the dual and quad core will have all of the software optimizations Samsung has done for web browsing. The 2gb memory is probably overkill at this point, but in theory it means that apps will never close in the background since there will be no need to free up new memory.

Here's my thoughts:
1. Still on the Epic 4G I've never had any real lag.
2. Lack of ram can stall a device, but an excess of ram will not make it faster.
3. Mobile quad-cores are new and untested.
4. Android is not designed for quad-core processors.
5. The dual-core US version should easily match the quad-core international.
6. More ram means more easily multitasking/app-switching.

Amazing gpu? The Galaxy S I opposed the iPhone 4. The Epic 4G has a better gpu than the iPhone 4, the PowerVR SGX 540 vs the iPhone's PowerVR SGX 535. Just thought I'd mention it since you're in an Epic 4G forum.

1. Well the whole android cant handle 4 cores i think is false because its derived from Linux and i know those who use 4,6,8 core processor's and use Linux. so if android isn't im sure its all in code is all.
2. More Ram does mean things will run much faster. For Example: playing gta 4 with 4GB of DDR3 Ram @ 1333MHz plays decent but my pc setup that plays gta 4 with 8Gb of DDR2 Ram @ 1333MHz plays faster and loads faster but GPU does factor those speeds too so, in a sense you cant bottleneck them.
Extra RAM. It's going to be a while before the apps/software catches up with having two more cores. Meanwhile even old stuff can benefit from extra memory. Also see it as more future proof as you won't get the lame ass excuses from Samsung about it not having enough RAM to run whatever the latest release of Android is like we got with ICS and the Epic 4G.

You've misunderstood. Android can use 4 cores, of course. What it can't do is use them effectively in a way that creates any sort of advantage. But just as a mention, being derived from Linux source does not make it a full-fledged Linux OS by far.
And on your second point, again, you're comparing to a full PC operating system. Up until now, apps have been designed for phones with far less than 1GB of ram. It really depends on how you use your phone as to how much ram is needed. If you have a video editor running in the background, while playing pandora, and emulating Mario 64 you'll need more than simply browsing the web. But the processor, bus speeds, operating system, etc. all factor into how effectively more ram can be used. For Example: A 32 bit computer can't even use more than 4GB of ram. More ram does not simply mean 'much' more more speed, there are many other limiting factors. You can throw all the ram you want at a netbook, it will never run GTA4.
Off-Topic Edit: I vote 2GB ram over Quad-Core.
I guess then the only thing that will "improve", not that the int'l lacks of, is on the multitasking??
The few videos I saw, they were really fast but that's of course without all the apps that a normal user install. Like I have 38 apps install on my phone and most of the time I open between 9 to 13 apps everyday. Most of the time I have to close it...I guess more for the habit of doing it and of courses need it when playing games.
I read the answer and I kinda feel its true, maybe android is not yet ready for such hardware just yet, does it feels the hardware manufacture is going too fast compare to the software?

There will be improvement between the dual-core, faster processor, and more ram, rest assured!
Although I still recommend closing apps unnecessarily opened to save battery.

I would take the dual core Krait hands down because it is designed from cortex a15. More instruction per clock is better than stacking cores which a phone doesn't even use. I think the 2 gb of ram has more performance advantage.
They also increased the memory bandwidth with new SOC by adding a new dual channel memory controller which the exynos had all along... They fixed alot of the shortcoming of snapdragon processor with the this gen product

Either way if you want LTE at the moment you are stuck with dual core. So the 2GB of RAM is a nice enhancement. The EVO 1x ended up as two models the 1X which is quad core with no LTE and the 1XL which is dual core with LTE.

Where the hell did the epic4g or the iPhone 4 come into the question? My point was that iPhones actually make use of their gpu's better than android phones do, so the difference between the quad core and the dual core gs3 should be minimal in that regard, at least for a while.

This is wrong.
The Krait is very much designed from the Cortex A9. While it shares similarities with the A15, it is not quite as powerful.
Krait is about 60% of the way between the A9 and A15.

No, where'd you even get that from? Krait is slightly below an A15, Qualcomm derived their design from it. Yes, its not a true A15 core. But its the best right now in production.
Qualcomm has a license to mess around with ARMs designs and make their own CPUs, not just copy and slap an "A4" on them like Apple does.

Interesting how someone "Likes" wrong information.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4940/qualcomm-new-snapdragon-s4-msm8960-krait-architecture
Designing a processor takes an extremely long amount of time. A15 was just barely released a few months ago. No way Krait was designed from it.
Now, Krait borrows some features from A15, but it's missing some important features as well. Krait does feature an extended instruction pipeline over the A9 (11 vs 9 cycles), but it's nowhere near as long as the A15 (15 cycles). Strictly speaking, lengthening a pipeline is less work than shortening it, hence Krait was not designed from the A15.
It's more likely Krait is an evolution of the Scorpion than anything.
As far as Apple, they have no place in this conversation, but if you must.... while they do have a "processor-only" license with ARM, they do farm out to a company to change some transistor signaling to make it more power efficient (they later bought them).
2 years ago, Apple bought Freescale, the only remaining PowerPC processor design company. (aside: The defense industry was largely concerned, as they rely on PowerPC for their power-efficient but high-speed applications). Anyhow, I wouldn't be surprised if they have an architecture license now so they can design their own ARM processors, Qualcomm-style. The main advantage would be integrating LTE radios like Qualcomm does.
Coincidentally it takes about 2 years to fully design a processor.

Nexus 7 tech specs query from buyer

Hi there!
I am in the hunt for a 7"-8" Android 4/4.1 tablet. Currently my choices are the new Acer Iconia A110 (because of a microSD card slot), the Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition (because of the bigger screen, excellent build and virtual surround sound), the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (again with a slightly bigger screen, a microSD card slot and an excellent AMOLED screen) and the top dog Google Nexus 7. But i am more interested with the Nexus 7 in terms of "Is it worth the investment" even on a small screen?. I will be using the thing mainly for checking email/news/weather, the usual Youtube, WIkipedia, Twitter, watching movies and also gaming. So, i'd like to ask:
1, Is the actual GPU dual or single channel? And what's the frequency? Does it matter?
2. Is the 1.3Ghz the base CPU speed? Or is it underclocked like what Apple is doing with its tabs?
3. Aside from connecting a mice or keyboard what other stuff can the Bluetooth 3.0 standard do?
4. Is it capable of wireless file transfer to & from a Macbook?
5. I'm aware that it doesn't have Flash but can i still install them via the Google Play?
6. Are they stereo speakers? Capable of surround sound? (some sound issues in some models i heard)
Please advice. Thanks.

1. Its either dual or quad I think clocked at 450 or something(can be over clocked)
2. Underclocked I think(prime has same CPU but at 1.5)
3. Don't know

5. No you have to sideload
6. Stereo and don't know about surround sound

Would it matter if a tablet has dual or single channel GPU? Does it matter if the wifi is dual or single band? WIll it actually help make the graphics "better" and surfing the net faster?
Would you trust Acer when it comes to build quality of its tablets compared to say samsung or Motorola?
1. Not sure(I think I heard about it being overclocked somewhere)
2. Default is 1.2ghz, can be overclocked up to 1.5ghz.
3. For example: File transfer. If you root you can also use it as a PlayStation controller with BluePutDroid.
4. There are a number of ways to do this, I would recommend AirDroid.
5. To get flash(no root required):
A. Go to settings->security and enable unknown sources.
B. Download and install the flash apk on your device from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763805
C. Get a browser that supports flash like boat browser(from play store).
6. Stereo, probably not surround sound.
(Second post)
Not sure what dual channel GPU means to tell you the truth.
I believe the nexus 7 has dual channel WiFi, using speed test app the speed reaches or goes above my maximum speed from the other end of the house.

There is no such thing as a single or dual channel GPU. Channels refers to the RAM. It is a 12 core GPU.
1.3ghz is the maximum clock speed of the specific CPU used, the T30L. It is not underclocked.
this is the truth after reading some ****.no single or dual gpu.12 core has.channel intended only for the ram.this is the minor tegra3 out there, less freq. clock but high clocked ram and not the same as t30 packed.begginnning with the fact the clock cpu freq. is overcloccable without problems, the ram packed on n7 is IMHO better than ad example tf201 or htconex one's
Are you guys certain there is no such thing as single or dual channel CPU?
And If the GPU clocked speed is 1.3Ghz would it mean that there is 1.3Ghz on each of the 12 cores?

no you are wrong man.the CPU(4cores) is clocked at 1.3 ghz (4 cores running) and 1.5 (or 1.4 i don't remeber)in single mode (1 core running)
the GPU (12cores)is clocked at 416 mhz by default
apart them,if you flash a custom kernel, this Soc can reach (depending on tab, they aren't exactly the same chips)1.8\2.0 ghz for the CPU,and 484\520\600\650\700\750 with the GPU (here depending on tab as well)
I see. So, it is fast?
As a side question would it be practical to buy a new or latest tablet like the Nexus 7 than an older (and equally good in its own) say Galaxy Tab 7.7 or the Xoom 2 Media Edition? What i'm trying to ask here is the "problem" of compatibility with apps and games if a tab has an older GPU in them.
Would that be an issue or not?
yes, sure it's fast!a little bit faster than others with same chip.i do you an example regards the last question.
there are peoples with old gpus, that continue playing hd games with these old gpu without problems (not all games working, but many of them!).an example is the galaxy nexus that i own,it 's packed with a good cpu and a old gpu, that we found also on galaxy s,nexus s ecc,but honestly i never found a game that doesn't work for the odl gpu.i have also tegra2 devices,no prob with games, surely a tegra3 is more powerfull and you can play games with full effect enabled without problems.all apps works, not depending to gpu,but only the version of OS at least.
The Tegra 3 SoC only has a single channel memory. Specs are 1GB RAM of DDR3L -1333 MHz (Low Voltage) giving a total memory bandwidth of 5.3 GB/s, is this super fast, no, but it is more than than sufficient for the Nexus 7 display resolution.
To the OP, don't get stressed about specs, especially if you're 100% sure what they actually mean. The important part is user experience of the Nexus 7, due in part to Android Jelly Bean, it is smooth and enjoyable, it can play all the latest games well, I also run Playstation & N64 emulators on it without issue.
Finally, The Nexus 7 is fully unlockable, so it has great developer support on XDA and other forums, which is 50% of the device's appeal in my eyes. If you can wait a few weeks, the rumour is a 32 GB model will replace the current 16 GB version.
If you can manage to find a Nexus 7 used on Craigs or Ebay, I would do it. I got my perfect condition barely used 16gb for $160 from a buyer's remorse user on Craigslist. For this price I find the tablet to be very good. I would have a harder time paying the $250 plus tax in store for the same unit. Not that it's not worth the $250 but already owning a Galaxy S3 phone, it's too much of the same at the end of the day, much like I experienced when I had a iPhone and iPad together.
The Nexus7 for me is a great grab and go device for quick browsing, game playing, weather checking, etc.
If you've got to have the latest and fastest specs, the Tegra3 is getting dated already and you'd want to find something with a Qualcomm S4 chip (even this isn't really faster than Tegra3). Supposedly the OMAP 4470 in the bigger Fire HD and the Nook HD+ might be a little faster for more money.
i doubt 4470 it's faster than tegra3 (all 3 variant)..it's basically a 4460 with a bit more clock freq.,same 45nm tecnology and with a faster gpu (with dedicated 2d hw chipset).they claim it's up to 2 times more faster than sgx540.if it's true,i think that tegra3 is better (not for the quad).Anyway i have to agree with all the things sad in previous posts.OP don't care about spec,a nexus device is fast for many others things that i don't write, already sad,and also if tegra3 it's becoming an "old" chipset compared to new out this days,it performs very well with an optimized OS.wait for the 32gb version and never ever think only about cpu\gpu specs :good:

A full fat OMAP 4470 is faster than the Tegra 3. I read a review of the Archos 101 XS which runs an OMAP 4470 @ 1.5 GHz (GPU 384 MHz)
In the ultra demanding GL Benchmark 2.5 - Egypt HD (Offscreen 1080p)
Nexus 7 = 8.9 FPS
Archos = 11 FPS
Transformer Infinity = 11 FPS
There is scope for the 4470 to run at 1.8 GHz, but that is probably only for larger devices like Windows RT tablet, Amazon apparently have clocked it at 1.5 GHz. Overall in a tough benchmark the N7 is slower, however the Transformer Infinity is the same speed, which is basically as fast as an easily overclocked Nexus. As the OMAP is a dual-core, in theory a game developed specially for our Nexus (Tegra Zone?) could be faster or more feature packed in terms of physics etc, if it use all 4 cores.

months ago the 4470 was supposed to run at 1.7 ghz.i remember when i bought the gnex in november 2011 that 4430 is at 1.2\4460 at 1.5\4470 at 1.7.theese number was in the official omap site and guide line referments.only after being out the fact of the 4460 bug (major part of them, wasn't capable of 1.5 ghz,and this Soc it isn't a downclocked one, from 1.5 to 1.2 by google.it's a 1.2 cpu.)they change also in the site some numbers.now the 4460 is at 1.2 and the 4470 there's write 1.3+,in this case of the archos 1.5.what a strange thing from omap!i saw same anandtech reviwe like you sad times ago,but honestly i think that in the total of bench that regularly they do,there are some in favor of 4470,and some in favor of tegra3,at least depending also if referred to cpu or gpu.with 4460 they did a good job,i really like it,but after have a look at 4460\70 documentation, seems that in term of cpu, there aren't so much differences.if i clock my 4460 at 1.5\16,do a bench and compare with a same bench do with a 4470,i think that the most differences are gpu related..and when i compare my bench with n7 and gnex,in term of cpu and both ultra-tweaked i see a big gap in scores...it's for that i continue to think in the total user exp and bench scores as well tegra3 remain more powerfull.but certainly the differences aren't visible by end user..but with bench at least and in th end what really count it's how's the user experience, not bench

An area the 4470 does hold a significant advantage over Tegra 3 is memory bandwidth, as it utilises dual-channel memory, hopefully Tegra 4 will sort out that deficiency. Ultimately the OMAP's GPU is not powerful enough to be bandwidth limited anyway, overall I like the Tegra 3 from a UX perspective, looking forward to a Tegra 4 in the next Nexus 7 v2:good:
Using a nexus 7 now. Very happy with the money I paid for it. In terms of spec? This beast will last you for awhile. Even if they are pushing specs already to the next level, it'll be a long time until a quad core 1 gb ram machine will be considered slow.
Simply put, at this price and quality, anyone can buy it and everyone should.

Finally, The Nexus 7 is fully unlockable, so it has great developer support on XDA and other forums, which is 50% of the device's appeal in my eyes. If you can wait a few weeks, the rumour is a 32 GB model will replace the current 16 GB version.

The 32 gig will be replacing the 8 gig model. Two versions will be available by Christmas: a 16 gig model and a 32 gig model. The 16 will be priced at (or below) $200.00. The 32 will be at (or below) $250.00.

You have a link confirming that, or is that inside knowledge
It's the logic step for Google. The 32 gig is already being sold and nobody really wants the 8 gig model. To compete with the "other" tablets and to make up for the lack of an SD card slot, it only makes sense.
IOW.....my speculation from 40 years of computer use....starting with the Heathkit H8.
