then read...and read...and root!

Mate, this a developers forum, theres help available BUT you are expected to use your own noggin first... Read a bit then, if you're not sure, ask questions. It'll get you more help in a nicer manner than just going "I'm looking root my tablet thanks for your help "...
This approach will generally get you flamed instead... I'm amazed you weren't just totally ignored...

Plans for thrive

Anyone have any ideas of any overclocking apps like the quick clock advanced for Droid x?
After the one click root comes out maybe?
If there are any developers that have any ideas I would like to hear them.
Thanks all in advance.

Not at the moment. Overclock requires mods to the kernel. The stock kernel has not been released yet.
So then iit will all depend on if the bootloader is unlocked?

What? The bootloader is unlocked. That is how we got the Thrive rooted. It depends on getting a copy of the uncompiled kernal. That we do not have.
Gotcha sorry... still new to Linux. For a second i had forgotten what the kernel was for. Sorry I showed my ignorance lol

Please do not say you are sorry. The only way to learn is to ask. If you state the wrong thing, you will get corrected. Some people slam others for thier ignorance, but I think they are the ignortant ones. They did not know what they do now when they started.
^.^; thanks lol guess ill just keep my eyes pasted here to see what happens in the next few months oh and btw this tablet so far rocks hardcore for my online college classes. Just invade anyone looking thru the forums was wondering.

It's good to know that you found it, now how about sharing what you've found with the rest of us? That's kinda the point of these forums!
I haven't found any one click root options for the a500 on ICS yet. Would be nice to know if there is one.
What a useless post without sharing your findings.
Maybe they are referring to this:

It was originally done for the leak but [reading on to around apr 21st [page 9]] it might work for OTA. If anyone tries it, post back.

Fully functional Jelly Bean ROM!!!

Did u guys see a dev has done up a JB rom for the GNex already? Wow, devs are no joke!

That's exactly what happened, but to say it was no big deal is foolish. It may not have been as awesome as building from the source that does not exist yet, but to get a bunch of noobs who don't know how to flash anything onto Jellybean and to even have the idea to extract the OTA from the I/O devices is a little bit more than "nothing special"
What I meant is that it could have been done sooner or later with all of the devs at io. What else do you expect them to do with a dev phone loaded with exclusive access to jb. Jeez I'm not trying to steal credits here look at my sig I'm not even a android user (yet). My point is it's not worth to celebrate something like that by opening a thread just keep going on existing threads.

The Jelly Bean OTA people flashed is just a preview, it won't be fully available until mid-july.

about rooting

I just wanted to give my opinion about rooting, I'm sure a lot of people like to do so, but on this device I don't think that you need to, I did a root on my .gs1 because of lag, then my arc needed more then root lol but my sgs 3 so far the best phone that I ever seen, not perfect, but as for lag, battery life, speed its top!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
There a a ton of reasons to root besides lag.
I have an app that requires root that keeps my clock in sync with the actual atomic clock time. The system clock will, over time, be too fast or too slow which means that eventually my phone is a few minutes off.
I have an app that requires root that is used to freeze/quarantine bloatware.
I have an app that requires root that allows me to backup not only my applications, but the application data as well.
I also enjoy root for custom ROMs and kernels that have less lag/stutter than the phone normally does (and yes, this still applies to the Samsung Galaxy S3).
There are always reasons to root.
I understand, I'm not saying not too, for me if the phone is good I'm leaving it stock
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Root no >> then no Nandroid and No TB no Ad Blocker . No push apps .
jje
Rooting has absolutely nothing to do with reducing lag or anything at all performance wise.
Rooting just gives you superuser permissions on your device.
Even if you are running an octo core phone with 5gb of ddr3 ram, rooting still offers benefits.

I fail to see the reason for this topic.
You choose not to root your phone and seem to have no idea what rooting actually means.
Fine by me, why should I or anyone else care what you personally do and do not do with your phone?
ok I have another question is there a root where could just download an app like a old g s one?

I rooted because the T-Mobile not sound was annoying. Without root, I couldn't get rid of it. Also ad block needed to be done.

Galaxy Phones are hard to hardbrick (not revivable through simple software and/or a 2$ USB-Jig)
By following the instructions in the General section ('following' meaning 'reading', not 'assuming' or 'trying') you're on a quick and painless root.

Hello, can't find an answer for this problem. Can anyone help. I have a lot of problems with ICS on Toshiba Thrive, can someone give me a tutorial how to go back to Honeycomb. I searched everywhere, but can't find nothing useful.

I could use some help as well. I just want to be able to root and install the new CM10 Rom that is out there. The OTA ICS update has made my tablet almost unusable. Anything you can do will be appreciated.

Because the tools involved are dangerous and cause permanent damage to the emmc, the method isn't especially difficult, but the tools are just to dangerous to let loose.
So a guide can be done up, but without the tools available to everyone its kind of pointless lol
